WEBVTT
00:00:01.997 -->
00:00:08.337Well, hello, my valued listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:08.617 -->
00:00:14.857I'm your host, Dr. Marlene Greenleaf, and as always, I'm truly grateful that
00:00:14.857 -->
00:00:16.817you are here with me today.
00:00:18.037 -->
00:00:22.937So as we continue our February journey, we are grounded in our theme,
00:00:23.777 -->
00:00:27.737Leading with Heart, Compassion, Courage, and Connection.
00:00:27.737 -->
00:00:36.237This month, we are leaning into a form of leadership that is often misunderstood,
00:00:36.777 -->
00:00:39.997undervalued, and yet desperately needed.
00:00:40.677 -->
00:00:43.577Leading rooted in compassion.
00:00:44.857 -->
00:00:50.057And today's episode, the second in our February series, is titled,
00:00:50.597 -->
00:00:55.197Compassion is not weakness, it's wisdom.
00:00:57.617 -->
00:01:01.737Now, in many spaces, compassion has been mislabeled.
00:01:02.777 -->
00:01:09.037It's often seen as softness, as emotional, or something that gets in the way
00:01:09.037 -->
00:01:11.557of productivity or authority.
00:01:12.537 -->
00:01:18.957Some leaders are thought that to be effective, they must be distant.
00:01:20.537 -->
00:01:25.837That caring too much will cloud judgment or undermine credibility.
00:01:27.677 -->
00:01:34.597And so compassion is pushed aside in favor of control, urgency, and output.
00:01:36.177 -->
00:01:41.897But here's the truth to your listeners. Compassion is not the absence of strength.
00:01:42.197 -->
00:01:45.117It is, in fact, the evidence of it.
00:01:46.377 -->
00:01:51.537Because it takes strength to listen when it will be easier to dismiss.
00:01:51.537 -->
00:02:00.417It takes courage to lead with empathy in environments that reward detachment.
00:02:01.577 -->
00:02:10.497And it takes wisdom to understand that people do their best work when they feel seen and not managed.
00:02:13.164 -->
00:02:22.244Now, James 17 reminds us, But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure,
00:02:23.184 -->
00:02:34.644then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, and good spirit, impartial and sincere.
00:02:36.584 -->
00:02:42.504Notice that mercy is not separate from wisdom. It is part of it.
00:02:43.964 -->
00:02:49.084Now when we look at the life of Jesus, compassion was never passive.
00:02:50.244 -->
00:02:52.604He noticed people others ignored.
00:02:54.144 -->
00:03:00.924He paused when crowds demanded speed, and he asked questions before issuing commands.
00:03:01.944 -->
00:03:08.424Compassion guided his responses, but wisdom shaped his actions.
00:03:09.424 -->
00:03:14.844Now there are moments when he healed and moments when he thought.
00:03:15.984 -->
00:03:20.544Moments when he corrected and moments when he walked away.
00:03:20.944 -->
00:03:24.144Because each response was intentional.
00:03:26.064 -->
00:03:33.924Now in my own leadership journey, I've learned that compassion doesn't always mean saying yes.
00:03:33.924 -->
00:03:41.024Sometimes it means slowing down enough To discuss what someone truly needs And
00:03:41.024 -->
00:03:42.644just what they're asking for.
00:03:44.604 -->
00:03:52.364Compassion without wisdom leads to burnout And wisdom without compassion leads
00:03:52.364 -->
00:03:57.624to disconnection God calls us to lead with both.
00:04:00.867 -->
00:04:05.707If you're wondering how compassion can practically guide your leadership,
00:04:06.167 -->
00:04:09.327here are three ways it often shows up.
00:04:10.447 -->
00:04:14.427First, compassion creates space for understanding.
00:04:14.987 -->
00:04:24.387So before reacting, compassionate leaders ask, what might I not know?
00:04:24.387 -->
00:04:31.587Because understanding context changes conversations, it softens conflicts,
00:04:31.887 -->
00:04:36.907and it opens the door to solutions that honor people and purpose.
00:04:38.147 -->
00:04:43.567Second one, compassion sets healthy boundaries.
00:04:44.187 -->
00:04:50.607Now this may surprise you, but compassion is not limitless availability.
00:04:52.027 -->
00:04:59.047Wisdom teaches us that boundaries protect relationships, they prevent resentment
00:04:59.047 -->
00:05:05.107and they allow you to show up fully where you are truly called.
00:05:05.847 -->
00:05:11.167So saying no can be an act of compassion for yourself and for others.
00:05:15.262 -->
00:05:19.142Compassion leads with clarity, not guilt.
00:05:20.642 -->
00:05:26.262That's the third one. Compassionate leadership does not avoid difficult conversations.
00:05:27.442 -->
00:05:32.042It speaks truth with kindness and it corrects with respect.
00:05:33.802 -->
00:05:41.802It holds standards without shaming. Now that balance is wisdom in action.
00:05:45.402 -->
00:05:53.262Now let's reflect on Micah 6, 8, which tells us And what does the Lord require of you?
00:05:53.742 -->
00:06:03.102To act justly and to love mercy And to walk humbly with your God Now mercy is
00:06:03.102 -->
00:06:06.862not optional. It is a requirement of faithful leadership.
00:06:10.923 -->
00:06:17.223So here's your empowerment prompts for this week. And I invite you to reflect on these questions.
00:06:19.923 -->
00:06:25.183Where might I be holding back compassion out of fear or appearing weak?
00:06:26.783 -->
00:06:32.123How can I lead with greater wisdom and mercy in a current role?
00:06:33.103 -->
00:06:39.883And what boundary do I need to set in order to lead with integrity and care?
00:06:41.163 -->
00:06:47.803I want you to sit with these questions prayerfully and let God guide your response.
00:06:48.943 -->
00:06:55.363So I'm going to repeat them again. I want you to reflect on these three questions.
00:06:55.963 -->
00:07:01.203Where might I be holding back compassion out of fear of appearing weak?
00:07:02.643 -->
00:07:07.963How can I lead with greater wisdom and mercy in my current role?
00:07:08.883 -->
00:07:14.963And what boundary do I need to set in order to lead with integrity and care?
00:07:17.063 -->
00:07:22.963Again, sit with these questions prayerfully and let God guide your response.
00:07:25.183 -->
00:07:31.383So in closing, my friends, I want to remind you that compassion is not a liability.
00:07:32.283 -->
00:07:39.323It is a leadership asset. And when guided by wisdom and grounded in feet,
00:07:39.923 -->
00:07:42.343compassion strengthens trust,
00:07:43.163 -->
00:07:49.063deepens connection, and creates an environment where people can truly thrive.
00:07:51.739 -->
00:07:57.599So I want to thank you for joining me today on Episode 2 in our February series,
00:07:57.699 -->
00:08:02.639Leading Your Heart, Compassion, Courage, and Connection.
00:08:03.359 -->
00:08:07.439Next week, we'll continue with a conversation titled Boundaries,
00:08:08.019 -->
00:08:10.339Empty, and Emotional Intelligence.
00:08:11.259 -->
00:08:17.959So until next time, my dear listeners, I want you to continue to live bold in
00:08:17.959 -->
00:08:23.139your power today. and if it gets tough just breathe,
00:08:25.479 -->
00:08:35.979you still got the strength to rise so until next time continue to live in your power.
