00:00:01.600 --> 00:00:09.039
Welcome to She's Honestly Mental, a podcast for women who are done pretending they're fine when they're falling apart on the inside.
00:00:09.039 --> 00:00:16.640
I'm your host, Karina Robinson, ADHD Brain, Medicated Mind, and proud mental health hospital alumni.
00:00:16.640 --> 00:00:20.239
Still here, still showing up somehow.
00:00:20.239 --> 00:00:27.039
This is the space for the fillers, the fixers, and the ones who carry it all and still wonder if it's enough.
00:00:27.039 --> 00:00:35.920
We talk about the chaos, the connection, and everything in between because silence nearly killed me, and these conversations save lives.
00:00:35.920 --> 00:00:41.520
Alright, cacao in hand, headphones on, chaos semi-contained.
00:00:41.520 --> 00:00:43.600
Let's get honestly mental.
00:00:43.600 --> 00:00:47.679
Welcome to episode seven.
00:00:47.679 --> 00:00:51.600
I am freaking excited.
00:00:51.600 --> 00:00:55.520
You know that feeling when you finally stop pretending?
00:00:55.520 --> 00:01:00.719
When your body catches up to your truth and you realize you've been holding your breath for years.
00:01:00.719 --> 00:01:10.799
Yeah.
00:01:10.799 --> 00:01:13.599
That's where this all started.
00:01:13.599 --> 00:01:18.079
I didn't really build she's honestly mental.
00:01:18.079 --> 00:01:24.159
It really was this thing that just kind of came about because I really enjoy.
00:01:24.159 --> 00:01:36.000
Well, I find something that's really therapeutic is sharing my story has been a really therapeutic way for me to be able to process what I've been through.
00:01:36.000 --> 00:01:49.920
In particular, because I have found other people that have been through similar situations and similar things, and they've been able to really support me because we've both we've all talked about our lived experience.
00:01:49.920 --> 00:02:00.319
I've spent decades being the capable one, the one that's been able to hold it all together, the one that looks like she's got her life together.
00:02:00.319 --> 00:02:04.640
And that really worked until it didn't anymore.
00:02:04.640 --> 00:02:07.680
And here's the wild thing.
00:02:07.680 --> 00:02:13.919
The moment that I stopped trying to be fine, my life didn't actually fall apart.
00:02:13.919 --> 00:02:16.240
It actually started to make sense.
00:02:16.240 --> 00:02:20.000
So today I want to walk you through what saved me.
00:02:20.000 --> 00:02:23.759
It's not a system, it's not self-help.
00:02:23.759 --> 00:02:31.039
One day I'm actually going to do a real, like a video where I burn a self-help book because I hate self-help books.
00:02:31.039 --> 00:02:32.639
Love me a good memoir.
00:02:32.639 --> 00:02:43.039
I love something where someone can talk about something that has really helped them through their life just by sharing their story.
00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:50.400
I hope one day that I can write my own memoir and be able to help people through that connecting.
00:02:50.400 --> 00:02:53.039
I find storytelling is really, really important.
00:02:53.039 --> 00:03:00.319
So there's something that I've built or that I'm building or that I'm sharing.
00:03:00.319 --> 00:03:05.599
And really, it's the way that I've been able to find my way through the mess.
00:03:05.599 --> 00:03:08.479
And I'm calling it the honesty method.
00:03:08.479 --> 00:03:13.439
It's not about fixing yourself, it's all about giving yourself permission to be human.
00:03:13.439 --> 00:03:16.080
Okay, picture this.
00:03:16.080 --> 00:03:24.159
Well, not picture this, because this is exactly, you know, we live in a world where women are told to be resilient.
00:03:24.159 --> 00:03:26.879
Resilience is everything, you know.
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:28.080
You're so resilient.
00:03:28.080 --> 00:03:30.560
Kids bounce back, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:03:30.560 --> 00:03:32.319
It's a performance.
00:03:32.319 --> 00:03:36.400
It's a mask that we put on to cope through the days.
00:03:36.400 --> 00:03:41.120
It's a smile through the meetings when you're silently drowning.
00:03:41.120 --> 00:03:52.719
It's the dread of another task, another thing that you've got to do, another P and C bake stall, another scholastic book fair, another volunteer commitment.
00:03:52.719 --> 00:03:57.840
Stay grateful, stay productive, stay pretty, stay polite.
00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:01.199
And when we break, it's a failure.
00:04:01.199 --> 00:04:07.360
Except really it's not a failure, it's a sign that we've been carrying too much stuff.
00:04:07.360 --> 00:04:13.199
And then the world goes, well, Karina, it's your fault for carrying all of those things.
00:04:13.199 --> 00:04:15.280
You chose to do it all.
00:04:15.280 --> 00:04:20.959
In comes flying, the I don't even know, is self-deprecation?
00:04:20.959 --> 00:04:21.920
I don't know.
00:04:21.920 --> 00:04:25.279
It's that negative self-talk is basically what it is.
00:04:25.279 --> 00:04:30.079
It comes flying in and it's like, you're an idiot! You're a dumbass.
00:04:30.079 --> 00:04:32.160
You did all of these things.
00:04:32.160 --> 00:04:36.160
And imagine if we were able to actually change that narrative.
00:04:36.160 --> 00:04:38.720
What if it's not a personal failure?
00:04:38.720 --> 00:04:42.879
I know that we were never meant to carry this much alone.
00:04:42.879 --> 00:04:45.360
Our brains are not broken.
00:04:45.360 --> 00:04:49.759
And we're just human in a world that keeps asking you to be a machine.
00:04:49.759 --> 00:04:52.959
So, drummer will please.
00:04:52.959 --> 00:05:00.000
This is where permission to be human was born.
00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:01.519
I've said this for years.
00:05:01.519 --> 00:05:08.800
We're so focused on doing all of the things that we have forgotten that we are actually human beings.
00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:24.560
We focus so much on the doing instead of being actually sitting in the moments, sitting in gratitude, sitting in our emotions, sitting in our feelings because we're so busy with the doing, our to-do list.
00:05:24.560 --> 00:05:27.120
It's heavy, it's hard.
00:05:27.120 --> 00:05:33.360
I realized that we don't need more motivation because motivation is like a bad boyfriend.
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:35.439
It never turns up when you need it to.
00:05:35.439 --> 00:05:37.920
We need more permission.
00:05:37.920 --> 00:06:00.399
Permission to stop, permission to say no, permission to not be okay today, permission to lose your shit, permission to scream, permission to go for a walk, permission to get a massage, permission to do whatever it is the fuck that you want to do just to be, to be a human being.
00:06:00.399 --> 00:06:05.680
And that's what this episode is: a deep dive into each step of the honesty method.
00:06:05.680 --> 00:06:10.800
It's a scaffolding that's held me, and now it's what I teach inside the work.
00:06:10.800 --> 00:06:13.279
I feel like a flog saying that.
00:06:13.279 --> 00:06:15.680
It's now what I teach inside the work.
00:06:15.680 --> 00:06:27.199
But I honestly believe that the reason I have been through all of this is because I have the capacity and the capability, aka verbal diarrhea, that I can't help but share all of these amazing things.
00:06:27.199 --> 00:06:28.560
Well, they're not amazing.
00:06:28.560 --> 00:06:30.480
It's just life skills.
00:06:30.480 --> 00:06:34.079
I've done lots of different courses, I've done lots of therapy.
00:06:34.079 --> 00:06:37.360
I feel like I've tried nearly everything.
00:06:37.360 --> 00:06:45.759
And these are the things that I've found that have been able to help me get through the day-to-day of life being a woman, being a mom.
00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:50.639
So space is where everything begins.
00:06:50.639 --> 00:06:54.319
Depends on what your beliefs are, you know, whether it's the Big Bang or whatnot.
00:06:54.319 --> 00:06:55.600
No, it's not really about that.
00:06:55.600 --> 00:06:57.519
That's not the kind of space.
00:06:57.519 --> 00:07:00.079
It's not glamorous.
00:07:00.079 --> 00:07:07.759
It's usually the bathroom floor or in the shower, or those two minutes where you're trying to have a poo in silence.
00:07:07.759 --> 00:07:14.079
It's a moment when you're crying in the car and you're saying, I just can't do it anymore.
00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:20.560
Before you can speak or heal or even hope, you have to land somewhere safe enough to stop performing.
00:07:20.560 --> 00:07:23.360
And this is the space that I speak of.
00:07:23.360 --> 00:07:27.360
For me, that was after my second hospital stay.
00:07:27.360 --> 00:07:33.839
When I sat in my car outside the house, handshaking and realizing I didn't know how to walk back in.
00:07:33.839 --> 00:07:52.160
And sometimes for me, it's actually sitting in the car doom scrolling, and you just going from one thing of being a mom or dropping the kids off at school or coming home from work, and then you're needing to then reintegrate and go back into whatever the next performance is that you need to be doing.
00:07:52.160 --> 00:07:56.240
Space isn't about escaping, it's about an exhale.
00:07:56.240 --> 00:08:00.399
It's about the first quiet breath when you stop pretending to cope.
00:08:00.399 --> 00:08:14.079
And that's why I built the messy middle: a free space for women to offload, for women to land softly, to vent, to ask for advice, or just be witnessed.
00:08:14.079 --> 00:08:19.120
It's not a place for fixing, and it's definitely not a home for toxic positivity.
00:08:19.120 --> 00:08:20.639
It's just air.
00:08:20.639 --> 00:08:26.240
Sometimes healing doesn't start with a plan, and it starts with someone saying, Hey, I'm here.
00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:27.600
You can breathe.
00:08:27.600 --> 00:08:30.160
And that space.
00:08:30.160 --> 00:08:49.360
For me with the messy middle, what I wanted was a space where you preface what you're about to post, and you preface what you're about to post in a way of, hey, I'm just venting because my husband's really pissed me off, and I'm so sick of his attitude.
00:08:49.360 --> 00:08:57.360
For well knowing that your husband's attitude's probably because you've been a really shitty hormonal bitch.
00:08:57.360 --> 00:09:02.960
Or he said something that is actually true, and you just want to smack him in the face.
00:09:02.960 --> 00:09:06.480
I don't know.
00:09:06.480 --> 00:09:11.440
But it's those vents, you're like, the fucking kids like yesterday.
00:09:11.679 --> 00:09:12.799
Oh my gosh.
00:09:13.039 --> 00:09:17.600
We're toilet training with Ruben, and he came in to me and he's like, Mum, I've done a poo.
00:09:17.600 --> 00:09:20.559
And I'm like, Great, that's so fantastic.
00:09:20.559 --> 00:09:23.519
You could have done the poo in the toilet.
00:09:23.519 --> 00:09:30.799
And while I'm laying on my bed reading my book, side note, currently reading Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth.
00:09:30.799 --> 00:09:32.399
So good.
00:09:32.399 --> 00:09:39.919
I hear him in the toilet, and every parent's worst nightmare is a kid and shit.
00:09:39.919 --> 00:09:51.360
And he's gone into the toilet, he's pulled his nappy off, he has pulled his pants down, and he's climbed onto the toilet whilst putting his little potty stool thing on there.
00:09:51.360 --> 00:09:53.679
And I'm so proud.
00:09:53.679 --> 00:09:57.679
He actually managed to do it without getting shit everywhere.
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:13.039
But, you know, in those moments, sometimes you just want to be like, for fuck's sake, I was just sitting down, trying to read a book, trying to take some time out for me, and the kids chat and then decided to go and deal with it himself.
00:10:13.039 --> 00:10:18.639
And it is definitely a moment where you should be really grateful, but you just need that second.
00:10:18.639 --> 00:10:26.960
And so if I was to share this within the messy middle, I would be posting, hashtag this is a vent.
00:10:26.960 --> 00:10:35.120
My two-year-old who on toilet training just decided he would go and take himself to the toilet, and there's fucking shit everywhere.
00:10:35.120 --> 00:10:36.799
Thankfully there wasn't.
00:10:36.799 --> 00:10:45.039
And so then what happens is this then allows the person who reads the post to go, oh, she's just venting.
00:10:45.039 --> 00:10:47.279
She's not actually asking for advice.
00:10:47.279 --> 00:10:49.919
She's just needing to get it off her chest.
00:10:49.919 --> 00:11:01.759
So it's giving that protective space to the person that's posting, knowing that they're not going to get that responsive, oh my gosh, well, if you have just XYZ or blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:11:01.759 --> 00:11:05.200
And you think sometimes when people do that, you're like, fuck off.
00:11:05.200 --> 00:11:06.879
Like, actually shut your mouth.
00:11:06.879 --> 00:11:10.080
I don't need you to be telling me how to perform right now.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:13.200
And so it just saves that space.
00:11:13.200 --> 00:11:17.840
The other thing would be if you were to use hashtag advice.
00:11:17.840 --> 00:11:22.159
You are actually asking for advice around this.
00:11:22.159 --> 00:11:26.080
I really need help with toilet training my two and a half-year-old.
00:11:26.080 --> 00:11:28.559
We can't get poos happening in the toilet.
00:11:28.559 --> 00:11:30.639
We can get we's, but we can't get poos.
00:11:30.639 --> 00:11:39.039
And that's where that tool would come in handy because the person posting is saying, I'm asking for advice.
00:11:39.039 --> 00:11:42.000
And then the people responding know that they're asking for advice.
00:11:42.000 --> 00:11:47.440
So it creates that really safe environment to be able to ask for those things.
00:11:47.440 --> 00:11:51.360
I kind of use it as this bit of an offload checklist.
00:11:51.360 --> 00:11:55.200
Preface what you're saying in a safe place.
00:11:55.200 --> 00:12:00.480
And that way it's also protecting the person that's responding.
00:12:00.480 --> 00:12:01.519
I don't know.
00:12:01.519 --> 00:12:03.360
I think it's pretty cool.
00:12:03.360 --> 00:12:08.080
And I'm like, oh, the messy middle, it's this free space for women to land softly.
00:12:08.080 --> 00:12:12.960
But at the moment, it's more of a hey, this is what I'm doing.
00:12:12.960 --> 00:12:16.159
Just want you guys to be here for the ride.
00:12:16.159 --> 00:12:20.320
And hopefully we can get a bit of a momentum happening in there.
00:12:20.320 --> 00:12:31.679
This is me just doing stuff because I'm thinking, if I don't give it a crack, if I don't give it a go, I'm gonna spend my time wondering what the hell I have been doing.
00:12:31.679 --> 00:12:35.679
And to be honest, Jared's like, Karina, you've spent a lot of money on this stuff.
00:12:35.679 --> 00:12:37.919
You probably need to start making some money.
00:12:37.919 --> 00:12:41.840
Anyway, we'll keep working on that.
00:12:41.840 --> 00:12:49.600
So when it comes to the honesty method, one of the things that I've found really important is the language that we use.
00:12:49.600 --> 00:13:02.960
Fun fact, a few years ago, I actually studied neurolinguistic programming and LP and timeline therapy, which kind of sits in really handy because in a past life I actually was a doula.
00:13:02.960 --> 00:13:04.480
Well, I am actually a doer.
00:13:04.480 --> 00:13:09.279
I'm a student doula at the moment, and I am on call for a birth, which is exciting.
00:13:09.279 --> 00:13:17.120
So if I've got a deck off quickly, that's because my amazing client just in labor, but yeah, she's not due for another week.
00:13:17.120 --> 00:13:19.039
So we'll just wait and see.
00:13:19.039 --> 00:13:28.720
But when I do the hypnobirthing, it became a part of the training, obviously, was to be talking to really understand the language around birth.
00:13:28.720 --> 00:13:35.360
So when you were doing hypnobirthing, instead of saying a contraction, we say a surge.
00:13:35.360 --> 00:13:40.080
Because a contraction, when you think of contraction, you think of that like tight constricting.
00:13:40.080 --> 00:13:45.759
And whereas a nice, gentle surge, like a nice gentle surge in the ocean, it's a bit softer.
00:13:45.759 --> 00:13:54.240
So that's what we aim is to really try and change the language around what is used when it comes to a birth.
00:13:54.240 --> 00:13:57.679
We don't normally ask about the pain.
00:13:57.679 --> 00:14:02.000
Like we say, please don't ask me what my pain is.
00:14:02.000 --> 00:14:04.080
Instead, we use pressure.
00:14:04.080 --> 00:14:13.919
And I found that really, really powerful with my first births, with my first two births, was saying to the doctors and midwives, this is the language that I want to use.
00:14:13.919 --> 00:14:17.440
And they then had an understanding.
00:14:17.440 --> 00:14:23.840
I know at the time a lot of people thought I was crazy because I was talking about this hypnobirthing thing.
00:14:23.840 --> 00:14:26.000
And this is like 12 years ago.
00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:28.480
So it's really important.
00:14:28.480 --> 00:14:41.679
Then when I studied NLP, the neurolinguistic programming, I really became aware of the language that I was using around my mental health.
00:14:41.679 --> 00:14:50.559
If you are saying things that are a definite, then you're telling your brain that that is a definite.
00:14:50.559 --> 00:15:03.200
It's something at the moment, I am doing these hike things, these little run trail hikes, and it's quite intense and it's something I have never done before.
00:15:03.200 --> 00:15:09.039
And I have said to myself, I'm not a runner, like I don't run, that's not for me.
00:15:09.039 --> 00:15:16.720
And what I've done is now the language that I use is I'm not a runner yet.
00:15:16.720 --> 00:15:27.440
And the word yet is actually so powerful because if you're saying something and you add yet onto the end of it, it gives you that possibility of hope.
00:15:27.440 --> 00:15:30.799
That's what I think is really important around your language.
00:15:30.799 --> 00:15:37.200
So when I was first diagnosed with PTSD and ADHD, I thought that meant that I was broken.
00:15:37.200 --> 00:15:45.279
Really, it meant I finally had words for my body to be able to describe the things that it's been screaming for years.
00:15:45.279 --> 00:15:58.080
When we talk about language, when we use stuff, well, when we're not talking about toxic positivity, because toxic positivity breeds shame.
00:15:58.080 --> 00:16:05.679
Working on language that supports your brain and your body actually shrinks the shame.
00:16:05.679 --> 00:16:09.919
It takes the chaos that's in your head and gives it a shape.
00:16:09.919 --> 00:16:12.879
And that's where the chaos letters came in for me.
00:16:12.879 --> 00:16:16.080
These were all kind of reflections that I write.
00:16:16.080 --> 00:16:21.840
One of the first ones that I wrote was literally me writing a voice note into my notes.
00:16:21.840 --> 00:16:25.840
And I was lying on the limestone bricks across the road at the park.
00:16:25.840 --> 00:16:31.840
And it was just these things that were floating around in my head that I didn't literally put pen to paper.
00:16:31.840 --> 00:16:34.320
I opened my notes and voiced it.
00:16:34.320 --> 00:16:39.039
And then I tracked it into Chat GPT and it framed it for me.
00:16:39.039 --> 00:16:45.279
But the chaos letters are really just these raw notes of me writing from my reality.
00:16:45.279 --> 00:16:47.840
And it's hard sometimes.
00:16:47.840 --> 00:16:53.039
But the best thing is that I love about the chaos letters is a way for me to connect with other people.
00:16:53.039 --> 00:16:59.759
But then also the way that people respond, and they're just thinking, far out, like me too.
00:16:59.759 --> 00:17:03.120
I'm so glad I was having a really hard moment.
00:17:03.120 --> 00:17:08.799
And now it's given me that name for what's going on.
00:17:08.799 --> 00:17:15.440
So when we can name our chaos, we stop letting the shame win.
00:17:15.440 --> 00:17:24.720
So the next thing that I love to chat about that is really important part of the honesty method is witnessing.
00:17:24.720 --> 00:17:30.079
You can be witnessed without someone trying to fix you.
00:17:30.079 --> 00:17:35.200
The moment someone simply says me too, something inside of you unclenches.
00:17:35.200 --> 00:17:39.920
When I say that, it makes me really laugh because I'm like unclenches.
00:17:39.920 --> 00:17:54.640
I say to kids when they're racing go-karts, the moment that your butthole starts to like clench on your seat is when you know that's probably time to hit the brakes and turn into the corner.
00:17:54.640 --> 00:18:00.000
The moment you start to semi-relax, that's when you need to accelerate and drive yourself through the corner.
00:18:00.000 --> 00:18:04.240
One of the really big things is that we don't always need solutions.
00:18:04.240 --> 00:18:07.759
We just need someone to see the mess and stay with us.
00:18:07.759 --> 00:18:20.400
It's that friend that's comes over and your kitchen's a mess and you're feeling really overwhelmed or your laundry's not folded, and you think before they get there that they're going to judge me because all of these things.
00:18:20.400 --> 00:18:26.160
And I tell you what, if I come over to your house and your house is a mess, I'm like, girl, thank you.
00:18:26.160 --> 00:18:28.240
Because it makes me feel normal.
00:18:28.240 --> 00:18:35.440
I'm currently sitting in my bedroom where I've got clothes all over the bed, shit on the floor.
00:18:35.440 --> 00:18:39.839
I'm literally tucked in the corner recording this podcast.
00:18:39.839 --> 00:18:44.480
And my kids, thankfully, right now, they're not screaming.
00:18:44.480 --> 00:18:47.279
But my life isn't perfect.
00:18:47.279 --> 00:18:50.720
It's not perfect, and I don't think it's realistic.
00:18:50.720 --> 00:18:53.519
Inside the messy middle, that's our golden rule.
00:18:53.519 --> 00:18:55.359
No advice unless it's asked for.
00:18:55.359 --> 00:18:58.160
Because advice can kind of be a silence too.
00:18:58.160 --> 00:19:00.079
It skips over the ache.
00:19:00.079 --> 00:19:06.160
It's just, I know sometimes when I ring my mum, I'll be talking to her about work stuff.
00:19:06.160 --> 00:19:13.759
And she goes, Well, you know, I make sure that I reconcile all of my files every day or every second day, and I just keep on top of it.
00:19:13.759 --> 00:19:16.559
And, you know, if you just blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:19:16.559 --> 00:19:20.319
And I thought, Mom, you're not listening to me.
00:19:20.319 --> 00:19:22.799
My brain doesn't work like that.
00:19:22.799 --> 00:19:30.720
And I think that's really important to really note that people are actually doing the best that they can with what they know.
00:19:30.720 --> 00:19:35.759
And so that's what I think is really important.
00:19:35.759 --> 00:19:40.799
Unless someone is actually asking for advice, don't give it.
00:19:40.799 --> 00:19:42.640
Shut your mouth.
00:19:42.640 --> 00:19:53.839
When I first posted my Instagram story from my second admission in hospital, it was me sharing that, hey, I'm back in Perth.
00:19:53.839 --> 00:19:57.680
This is my second time here in four months.
00:19:57.680 --> 00:19:59.519
Just had a miscarriage.
00:19:59.519 --> 00:20:01.599
I had a massive meltdown.
00:20:01.599 --> 00:20:03.759
I'm not doing great.
00:20:03.759 --> 00:20:12.160
The amount of people that messaged me back and said, same, was the thing that kept me going.
00:20:12.160 --> 00:20:22.240
The women that were prepared to open up about the things that we've been told to stay silent, they are the women that got me through those dark moments.
00:20:22.240 --> 00:20:26.079
That's when I realized honesty isn't just healing.
00:20:26.079 --> 00:20:29.359
Honesty is contagious, just like a smile.
00:20:29.359 --> 00:20:33.440
Witnessing is the moment shame dissolves into belonging.
00:20:33.440 --> 00:20:36.079
Little Brene Brown moment for you.
00:20:36.079 --> 00:20:48.000
Once we're witnessed, once someone says same, me too, I'm like, girl, sister, it becomes no longer a performance.
00:20:48.000 --> 00:20:52.960
It's no longer the, yeah, I'm fine, things are great, kind of catch-ups.
00:20:52.960 --> 00:20:58.160
It's actual connection where you can say the thing and still be loved.
00:20:58.160 --> 00:21:12.880
And I have found so much, particularly over the last 12 months since my ADHD diagnosis, how much better quality my friendships are, because I'm not faking fine anymore.
00:21:12.880 --> 00:21:27.920
Every episode of this podcast has been an unfiltered conversation between me and the woman that I was, the one who used to pretend and the one who now no longer pretends.
00:21:27.920 --> 00:21:36.000
I mean, yeah, sometimes I do, but sometimes it's more often than not that I'm not pretending anymore.
00:21:36.000 --> 00:21:41.920
When you can have those friendships where you can cry, you can swear, and you can laugh at the chaos.
00:21:41.920 --> 00:21:44.960
Hello well, live laugh, toast a puff.
00:21:44.960 --> 00:21:47.920
Not appropriate.
00:21:47.920 --> 00:21:57.359
But that is just one of the things that, you know, you can make a bit light of it, but you know that there's those friends that when things are really messy, you can talk to them about it.
00:21:57.359 --> 00:22:02.640
Those friends that hold space for the gray, for the clouds, for the storm.
00:22:02.640 --> 00:22:10.079
Those connections, for me in particular, like I said earlier, they're the ones that have gotten me through.
00:22:10.079 --> 00:22:15.039
Sometimes, though, I know people feel really lonely and isolated.
00:22:15.039 --> 00:22:23.279
And it's tricky, depending on your environment, as to know who is actually really safe or a safe place that you can talk to.
00:22:23.279 --> 00:22:33.279
I know sometimes that I found when I talk to someone who is normally a safe space for me, I forget to actually check in with them.
00:22:33.279 --> 00:22:38.079
And I tend to offload without going, hey, how are you?
00:22:38.079 --> 00:22:48.000
And my friends will know that if you give me the hey, I'm fine, I'm going to turn around and be like, hey, what's going on?
00:22:48.000 --> 00:22:52.079
I don't do the fake I'm fine anymore.
00:22:52.079 --> 00:22:56.079
What I've done is I've created this really cool little tool.
00:22:56.079 --> 00:22:58.400
It's called the AI Pocket Bestie.
00:22:58.400 --> 00:23:06.880
And it's using a program similar to ChatGPT where it works similar to the messy middle.
00:23:06.880 --> 00:23:14.400
You can chat to it, and it's framed around the language that I use within She's Honestly Mental.
00:23:14.400 --> 00:23:19.759
It's framed around my training in NLP and hypnosis and hypnobirthing.
00:23:19.759 --> 00:23:23.680
And gosh, that probably sounds really whack there for some people.
00:23:23.680 --> 00:23:28.160
But it's just trained in all of the things that I've done.
00:23:28.160 --> 00:23:33.920
And it's really kind and it has a really sweet heart, even though it's an AI.
00:23:33.920 --> 00:23:38.400
But it's something that you can have in your pocket for those moments.
00:23:38.400 --> 00:23:42.799
You can voice note it and just say, Oh, my fucking kids are screaming.
00:23:42.799 --> 00:23:46.400
Well, I'm trying to record a podcast and I want to smack them in the head.
00:23:46.400 --> 00:23:49.599
And it'll say, Hey, Karina, are you asking for advice?
00:23:49.599 --> 00:23:51.279
Or are you just venting?
00:23:51.279 --> 00:23:56.160
And it'll respond in the way that's most appropriate for what you're going through.
00:23:56.160 --> 00:24:01.839
One thing that it will not do is tell you to stay positive.
00:24:01.839 --> 00:24:03.279
Just get over it.
00:24:03.279 --> 00:24:07.440
It'll meet you where you are, the way that honesty should.
00:24:07.440 --> 00:24:12.400
The final step with the honesty method is integration.
00:24:12.400 --> 00:24:16.319
And to be honest, it's the hardest one.
00:24:16.319 --> 00:24:21.119
It's where the honesty becomes a lifestyle, not a breakdown moment.
00:24:21.119 --> 00:24:25.200
It's telling the truth in the everyday, I forgot the form again.
00:24:25.200 --> 00:24:31.200
I yelled at the kids, I'm still tired, and not adding, but I'm fine at the end.
00:24:31.200 --> 00:24:32.640
Like it's okay.
00:24:32.640 --> 00:24:35.839
None of this toxic posity bullshit.
00:24:35.839 --> 00:24:37.839
None of the shame spirals.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:40.640
None of the I'm a fucking idiot.
00:24:40.640 --> 00:24:42.240
I should be doing better.
00:24:42.240 --> 00:24:49.920
The amount of times the kids bring home notes and the school ring me saying, hey Karina, just wonder if it's okay for the boys to go.
00:24:49.920 --> 00:24:52.079
And I'm like, yes, absolutely.
00:24:52.079 --> 00:24:54.720
Sorry, I've lost the note.
00:24:54.720 --> 00:24:56.480
Literally, my dog's eating it.
00:24:56.480 --> 00:24:58.000
I have no idea.
00:24:58.000 --> 00:25:01.279
It's choosing the softness in the middle of the chaos.
00:25:01.279 --> 00:25:05.680
It's literally being the calm in the storm.
00:25:05.680 --> 00:25:13.920
It's resting before you crash, giving yourself permission to do that, letting good enough be your gospel.
00:25:13.920 --> 00:25:18.400
That's what permission to be human is built around.
00:25:18.400 --> 00:25:22.160
You can kind of do it either way, or not do it at all.
00:25:22.160 --> 00:25:26.079
But what I've built is six weeks of scaffolding, not self-help.
00:25:26.079 --> 00:25:27.839
It's group support.
00:25:27.839 --> 00:25:31.039
And if you wanted it, it's one-on-one holding.
00:25:31.039 --> 00:25:35.759
It's using actual tools that you can hold, no homework.
00:25:35.759 --> 00:25:41.920
And the other really cute thing that I thought would be really valuable is a little permission pack.
00:25:41.920 --> 00:25:55.519
So instead of an online workbook or instead of joining Zoom calls or those kind of things, it's a little permission pack that I post with love out to you with a few little goodies in it.
00:25:55.519 --> 00:26:06.240
What I think is really important for a good mental health is to be able to build a solid foundation that can help you when things get rocky.
00:26:06.240 --> 00:26:18.319
It's then also building great scaffolding around the foundation and around you so that when the cyclone comes, you have got a strong structure.
00:26:18.319 --> 00:26:33.039
It's something that I have found really, really helpful for when I am having those moments of meltdowns and screaming and feeling not good enough and feeling that, oh my gosh, I've bitten off more than I can chew.
00:26:33.039 --> 00:26:40.319
It's knowing that I've got that solid foundation and the tools in my toolbox to be able to help me get through those moments.
00:26:40.319 --> 00:26:50.240
And that's why I think something like permission to be human, like the messy middle, like the chaos letters.
00:26:50.240 --> 00:27:00.319
It is the connection that we have as human beings, as women, that helps us get through this mess, the messy middle.
00:27:00.319 --> 00:27:03.039
So yeah, that's where I'm going.
00:27:03.039 --> 00:27:06.079
That's where things are happening with She's Honestly Mental.
00:27:06.079 --> 00:27:07.920
It's very exciting.
00:27:07.920 --> 00:27:12.240
And I'm so glad that you're here along for the ride.
00:27:12.240 --> 00:27:16.720
And as always, if you love the podcast, please let me know.
00:27:16.720 --> 00:27:24.000
Please send me a message because it is so incredibly powerful for me to know the impact that this is making.
00:27:24.000 --> 00:27:38.400
And I hope too, even if joining Permission to be human, the messy middle, the chaos letters, even if you don't subscribe to those things, I really hope that what I talk about on the podcast is something that is really, really helpful for you and you've got a few takeaways.
00:27:38.400 --> 00:27:40.400
So yeah, till next time.
00:27:40.400 --> 00:27:41.440
Peace.
00:27:41.440 --> 00:27:45.119
Thanks for hanging out with me on She's Honestly Mentor.
