00:00:00.239 --> 00:00:04.400
It is so important to plan around your cycle.
00:00:04.559 --> 00:00:13.199
And very truly, honestly, when I started doing this and looking at the calendar, like even when you plan a vacation, look, I'm so serious.
00:00:13.279 --> 00:00:15.119
Like, look at where you're going to be on your cycle.
00:00:15.199 --> 00:00:18.160
Because if it's a bad week, like don't do it.
00:00:23.039 --> 00:00:32.479
If you're tired of doing all the right things and still feeling exhausted, stuck in your body, and disconnected from God, this podcast is for you.
00:00:32.719 --> 00:00:33.280
I'm Dr.
00:00:33.439 --> 00:00:42.159
Tabitha, triple board certified functional medicine physician, and I help women stop fighting their bodies and start healing them God's way.
00:00:42.399 --> 00:00:45.200
This isn't about another diet or quick fix.
00:00:45.359 --> 00:00:53.359
This is about restoring your energy, your confidence, and your faith through fasting, functional medicine, and biblical truth.
00:00:53.600 --> 00:00:57.039
Welcome to Fast of Faith, where you don't just lose weight and feel great.
00:00:57.200 --> 00:00:59.840
You step into who God created you to be.
00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:01.600
So let's get into it.
00:01:06.400 --> 00:01:09.280
Hey ladies, welcome back to the Fast of Faith podcast.
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:14.959
This is an episode that we are super excited about because it is different than anything that we've ever done before.
00:01:15.200 --> 00:01:17.840
I am going to rapid fire questions at Dr.
00:01:17.920 --> 00:01:18.640
Tabitha today.
00:01:18.719 --> 00:01:20.480
We're putting her in the hot seat.
00:01:20.640 --> 00:01:23.519
And these are questions that you have been asking.
00:01:23.680 --> 00:01:28.879
These are questions that you've put in comments either on YouTube or Facebook or Instagram.
00:01:29.040 --> 00:01:37.280
So know that these are coming from a woman just like you watching this episode or listening to this as you walk with your weighted vest, whatever you choose to do.
00:01:37.519 --> 00:01:38.079
So, Dr.
00:01:38.159 --> 00:01:39.439
Tabitha, welcome.
00:01:39.599 --> 00:01:40.239
Are you excited?
00:01:40.560 --> 00:01:41.599
I'm a little nervous.
00:01:41.840 --> 00:01:42.719
I'm gonna lie.
00:01:42.879 --> 00:01:43.920
No, I'm just kidding.
00:01:44.079 --> 00:01:48.400
I'm excited because I don't want women Googling for this.
00:01:48.640 --> 00:01:59.760
I mean, Google is getting better, Nava Chat GPT, the answers, but there's still a really big part that Google restricts and YouTube.
00:02:00.400 --> 00:02:04.319
It is the world of health and wellness, oftentimes.
00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:07.920
So I'm just gonna be fully transparent.
00:02:08.080 --> 00:02:17.759
Hopefully, we don't get kicked off of any platform, but there are governing bodies that decide what gets shown and what doesn't.
00:02:17.919 --> 00:02:19.919
You know, we just recorded with Dr.
00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:33.199
Whitfield and had this whole issue, but you're probably gonna get the answer that the food industry wants you to hear, or the insurance industry, or the conventional medical system.
00:02:33.680 --> 00:02:43.439
Um, I am encouraged to see more and more um platforms showing the alternatives, the integrative medicine, the functional medicine.
00:02:43.599 --> 00:02:48.560
But even if you go to Wikipedia, it still calls functional medicine quackery.
00:02:48.800 --> 00:03:04.000
So hello, I'm sorry, but the Cleveland Clinic, which we all like agree is a standard, you know, institution of trust, they have a functional medicine program.
00:03:04.240 --> 00:03:11.439
So I just want women to understand that what you are finding and searching is being censored.
00:03:11.599 --> 00:03:15.919
And so that's why platforms like this are so essential and necessary.
00:03:16.319 --> 00:03:22.159
And when you Google something, you might not get the full answer that you are looking for.
00:03:22.319 --> 00:03:33.120
And I know because I Google and I see what comes up because it's really important to me that women have full informed consent and like get all the alternatives.
00:03:33.280 --> 00:03:36.240
Informed consent is risks, benefits, and alternatives.
00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:42.080
And we don't talk about alternatives in conventional medicine, we talk about what the doctors can provide.
00:03:42.240 --> 00:03:47.439
For me as an OB, I was like birth control pills and surgery, these are my options.
00:03:47.840 --> 00:03:59.680
And now, as a functional medicine and menopause certified provider, I have so many other tools in that toolbox, but you might not know that when you're searching on Google.
00:03:59.840 --> 00:04:01.520
So thanks for doing this episode.
00:04:01.759 --> 00:04:02.479
Yeah, you're welcome.
00:04:02.639 --> 00:04:04.479
I also want to address a couple things.
00:04:04.639 --> 00:04:07.439
There are other ways that you can ask Dr.
00:04:07.520 --> 00:04:10.960
Tabitha a question and she can answer it on every website.
00:04:11.039 --> 00:04:18.560
So if you go to fastafate.com or shop.fastafate.com or even just drtabitha.com, there is a little chat bot.
00:04:18.639 --> 00:04:22.480
It is either pink or orange and it'll look like a little text message bubble.
00:04:22.639 --> 00:04:25.040
You will click on that and you can actually ask Dr.
00:04:25.199 --> 00:04:26.480
Tabitha a question.
00:04:26.639 --> 00:04:30.639
It has been trained to answer like her, all of her episodes are in there.
00:04:30.800 --> 00:04:34.800
Anything that she's ever talked about gets put inside of that little chat bot.
00:04:34.879 --> 00:04:37.600
So you can actually ask her a question at any time.
00:04:37.680 --> 00:04:38.560
It's really cool.
00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:45.920
Another way that you can ask her questions or any of her certified uh coaches is by joining our sisterhood community.
00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:47.759
And you can do that a couple ways.
00:04:48.000 --> 00:04:54.319
You can join our five-day challenge, and so it is a$5 five-day challenge that you can join.
00:04:54.399 --> 00:04:59.199
It's called Empowered by Faith, or you can join our Fast of Faith um program.
00:04:59.279 --> 00:05:01.360
So there's a couple ways where you can get inside.
00:05:01.439 --> 00:05:07.600
That's a private community, and you can really ask some more one-on-one personalized questions inside of that.
00:05:07.680 --> 00:05:12.399
So that is something that we do on a private platform in our Fast to Faith 2.0 app.
00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:13.920
So there are other ways.
00:05:14.079 --> 00:05:15.040
You're only one person.
00:05:15.199 --> 00:05:20.000
That's the cool thing about you certifying coaches, but also technology, and we're utilizing that.
00:05:20.160 --> 00:05:24.160
So please look at that little chat bot on the bottom of all of our episodes.
00:05:24.399 --> 00:05:26.319
So here we go.
00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:33.600
The first question that we have is how has your approach to health and wellness evolved over the past decade?
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:36.319
Oh my gosh, it's evolved so much.
00:05:36.639 --> 00:05:40.959
A decade ago, I would have been 39, 40 years old.
00:05:41.279 --> 00:05:44.560
I didn't know what health and wellness was, actually.
00:05:44.800 --> 00:05:48.319
I I was in the world of disease and diagnoses.
00:05:48.480 --> 00:05:52.399
I all I saw was medical problems.
00:05:52.720 --> 00:05:59.600
And I thought that if someone didn't have a diagnosis, they were health and wealth and well.
00:06:00.000 --> 00:06:04.879
But the truth is, health is not the absence of disease.
00:06:05.040 --> 00:06:06.720
It's a whole other spectrum.
00:06:06.959 --> 00:06:10.560
And in that I want women to start to really understand.
00:06:10.800 --> 00:06:15.920
And um, if you have not been told you have diabetes, that does not mean you're healthy.
00:06:16.079 --> 00:06:22.560
So we get this misconception because you go for your annual visit and you get this clean bill of health.
00:06:22.720 --> 00:06:23.439
Oh, you're fine.
00:06:23.519 --> 00:06:24.879
We'll see you next year.
00:06:25.120 --> 00:06:33.519
Meanwhile, your labs are trending toward diabetes, they're trending toward um hormone imbalances.
00:06:33.680 --> 00:06:42.480
You have raging gut issues that aren't being addressed, or an autoimmune condition that you're told to just live with and that we will manage.
00:06:42.800 --> 00:06:48.399
And that does not mean that you are healthy or well, yeah, right?
00:06:48.480 --> 00:06:49.680
So it's so good.
00:06:49.920 --> 00:06:57.040
Yeah, we we have to change how we're looking at things and understand that it's just a different spectrum.
00:06:57.199 --> 00:07:02.879
So we're not trying to avoid disease, we're trying to create health.
00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:09.600
And when we do that, the first thing that I had to learn was that my body is for me.
00:07:09.920 --> 00:07:15.519
God actually gave me an amazing body and I was treating it terribly.
00:07:15.680 --> 00:07:17.680
Um, I was talking bad to it.
00:07:17.759 --> 00:07:19.439
I was calling it every name in the book.
00:07:19.680 --> 00:07:30.079
I was not nourishing it, I was treating it like a garbage can: MM's, Mountain Dew, Taco Bell, McDonald's, all the things because I was busy.
00:07:30.240 --> 00:07:33.279
I had every excuse, every reason.
00:07:33.920 --> 00:07:38.079
And God really had to convict me on some of this stuff and say, you know what?
00:07:38.160 --> 00:07:43.040
You get this one vessel, and if it's breaking down, it's not my fault.
00:07:43.199 --> 00:07:52.560
I actually created it to heal and thrive until your last day, but you continue to destroy it and break it down.
00:07:52.720 --> 00:08:06.399
And so what we talk about in Fast of Faith Sisterhood is this the scales, this balance of like, are you in inflammation and destruction or are you in healing, repair, and restoration?
00:08:06.639 --> 00:08:09.600
Who's winning that fight, that balance?
00:08:09.920 --> 00:08:15.279
And there's things that cause destruction, and there's things that cause repair and restoration.
00:08:15.680 --> 00:08:29.040
And what I recommend to women is get curious, stop shaming yourself, feeling guilty, um, living in the pit of self-pity, of like, woe is me.
00:08:29.120 --> 00:08:35.360
I I got these bad genes, I've been, you know, passed down these diagnoses or these addictions.
00:08:35.519 --> 00:08:43.279
Like, we have to break up with all that garbage because the truth of it is we are more than conquerors, we are overcomers.
00:08:43.519 --> 00:08:47.120
God equips us, but we have to do things differently.
00:08:47.279 --> 00:08:51.519
We have to show up and make different choices, and that starts with our mind.
00:08:51.679 --> 00:08:55.120
So, in order to heal your body, you must first renew your mind.
00:08:55.279 --> 00:08:57.440
Romans 12, 2, that's what we do.
00:08:57.600 --> 00:08:58.799
Everything around here, right?
00:08:58.960 --> 00:08:59.519
Yes.
00:08:59.840 --> 00:09:06.240
So that is what I would say is it takes a perspective change.
00:09:06.559 --> 00:09:16.720
It takes some understanding of there is a whole world out there that you might not even know about or have any awareness of.
00:09:16.799 --> 00:09:22.000
Like I was just totally clueless until I wasn't.
00:09:22.080 --> 00:09:24.799
And once your eyes are opened, you can't go back.
00:09:24.960 --> 00:09:29.279
You have to trust that God is making a way and showing you these things.
00:09:29.360 --> 00:09:34.639
So if you're listening to this episode, that is a sign from God.
00:09:34.879 --> 00:09:49.840
He has been telling you, do it different, show up different, make different choices, renew your mind, get scripture in your head, start believing that God actually has a better health journey for you.
00:09:50.320 --> 00:09:52.000
You aren't meant to suffer.
00:09:52.240 --> 00:09:53.440
You just are not.
00:09:53.519 --> 00:09:56.080
It is a flat-out lie from this world.
00:09:56.240 --> 00:10:04.480
We live in a broken world and we're all just like hamsters on the freaking wheel, thinking, oh, this is how it's supposed to be.
00:10:04.639 --> 00:10:07.360
No, stop conforming to the pattern of this world.
00:10:07.600 --> 00:10:08.399
Get off the wheel.
00:10:08.559 --> 00:10:09.600
Get off the wheel.
00:10:09.840 --> 00:10:10.480
Yeah.
00:10:10.879 --> 00:10:16.080
Real quick, I just want to interrupt this conversation for something super important.
00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:27.279
Even though we need to take care of ourselves spiritually, emotionally, and physically, we do have to take care of ourselves at a cellular level.
00:10:27.440 --> 00:10:30.799
And that is why I have my Fast to Faced supplement line.
00:10:30.879 --> 00:10:38.799
So let's just take a minute to hear about something that might be the game changer that you need in this season.
00:10:39.120 --> 00:10:47.279
We didn't talk in detail about the difference in omega-3s versus omega 6s when we talked about omega lift.
00:10:47.440 --> 00:10:57.679
And it's so important because the standard American diet, one of the worst aspects of it is the high levels of omega-6s.
00:10:57.919 --> 00:11:00.320
Like that's what's destroying ourselves.
00:11:00.480 --> 00:11:00.720
Yep.
00:11:00.879 --> 00:11:01.200
Right?
00:11:01.679 --> 00:11:02.320
100%.
00:11:02.799 --> 00:11:05.519
You know, oftentimes we don't really have a choice.
00:11:05.679 --> 00:11:12.480
I mean, if you look at your labels, if you if you go out to eat like the average human being, you are going to have omega-6s.
00:11:12.879 --> 00:11:16.159
Omega-6s and omega-3s are called essential fatty acids.
00:11:16.320 --> 00:11:24.399
What the name implies, they're essential for the functioning of your body, mostly stored on your fat, um, but they're very essential for the functioning of your body.
00:11:24.559 --> 00:11:30.240
Both of them are, but however, in a one-to-one ratio, meaning you don't need a whole lot of omega-6s.
00:11:30.320 --> 00:11:33.120
Now, omega-3s are phenomenal.
00:11:33.279 --> 00:11:44.240
Omega-6s, though, in too much, like you could have a ton of omega-3s, and you're it's it's omega-6s though, if you have too much of that particular omega, it turns into inflammation.
00:11:44.480 --> 00:11:47.360
So you do not want to have too much omega-6s.
00:11:47.600 --> 00:11:59.120
Before the food industry really existed, you could get away with eating salmon once or twice a week because you were not getting omega-6s in your diet.
00:11:59.360 --> 00:12:02.480
But now we we're getting them everywhere we turn.
00:12:02.559 --> 00:12:05.279
We're getting them in their coffee drinks in the morning.
00:12:05.440 --> 00:12:09.120
We're getting them in our, you know, everything.
00:12:09.440 --> 00:12:16.960
That's why potato chips are bad for you, not because of the potatoes or the salt, because they're soaked in omega-6 seed oils.
00:12:17.039 --> 00:12:19.360
And so we're just combating this.
00:12:19.679 --> 00:12:25.440
And that is why we need omega-3s in such high levels.
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:36.000
I can't even tell you how different I feel when I add in omega lift because I do tend to consume a lot of omega-6s.
00:12:36.399 --> 00:12:45.120
Um, just with traveling and having two teenage kids, so we're never eating dinner at the same time, or we're always grabbing and on the go.
00:12:45.279 --> 00:12:47.679
And so I have to combat that.
00:12:47.759 --> 00:12:49.679
I have to counteract it.
00:12:50.399 --> 00:12:54.559
You touched on this a little bit in the beginning, and it is about labs.
00:12:54.720 --> 00:12:57.919
And you go to the doctor, and labs are normal.
00:12:58.080 --> 00:13:04.159
That's what you get told, and you created a how to read your own labs guide, which we'll have in the show notes today.
00:13:04.320 --> 00:13:09.759
Can you explain a little bit about why we're told our labs are normal and why they're really not optimal?
00:13:10.080 --> 00:13:10.559
Yeah.
00:13:10.879 --> 00:13:17.840
So medicine in general was born out of acute illness.
00:13:18.159 --> 00:13:24.320
So when thing when you break your arm, you you know, have to have that casted or fixed.
00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:33.360
If you, your appendix ruptures, you need emergency surgery, if the baby's not coming out right, we figured out how to deliver by cesarean section.
00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:52.639
Like that whole world was born out of an acute situation need when we started seeing infections and epidemics, and um, we created penicillin as an antibiotic to kill bacteria that like changed the whole landscape of medicine.
00:13:53.039 --> 00:14:12.480
And so we go into the future, and now we're struggling with lifestyle diseases, and that we don't know how to handle in medicine because there's no surgery, there's no antibiotic, there's no cure, it's a lifestyle problem.
00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:17.039
It's your daily choices all day long that are leading you astray.
00:14:17.200 --> 00:14:24.000
And so we're actually looking to the wrong people for our help to get us well again.
00:14:24.159 --> 00:14:40.960
And that's what I would encourage people is understand that the lab ranges that you see on the labs that your doctor uses to interpret your labs, those were created for hospitalized patients in acute situations who are deathly ill.
00:14:41.120 --> 00:14:49.919
So when a TSH level range says 0.05, it used to be eight when I was in med school, I think it was.
00:14:50.159 --> 00:14:52.799
And then they shrunk it down to six.
00:14:53.360 --> 00:14:58.799
And what that means is you need to be in the hospital or you don't.
00:14:58.960 --> 00:15:04.240
And so we were using these lab ranges to evaluate do you need to be hospitalized?
00:15:04.399 --> 00:15:08.159
Is your sodium out of the 135 to 145?
00:15:08.240 --> 00:15:12.559
So you need to be in the hospital with an IV to correct that imbalance.
00:15:12.960 --> 00:15:19.519
But what we did was we took that acute care situation and we brought it into doctors' offices.
00:15:19.679 --> 00:15:26.960
And now we get these lab panels, and of course they're in the normal range because you're walking around and you don't need to be in the hospital.
00:15:27.039 --> 00:15:30.480
But we get this false sense of I'm healthy.
00:15:30.639 --> 00:15:37.759
It's not that you're healthy, it's that you're so not metabolically drained that you need intervention in this moment.
00:15:37.919 --> 00:15:38.159
Yep.
00:15:38.320 --> 00:15:47.759
But in the meantime, you have underlying lifestyle diseases brewing, they're smoldering like the tiny little embers in a fire.
00:15:47.919 --> 00:15:53.120
And all you got to do is add a little lighter fluid to that, and you're gonna be a hot flaming mess.
00:15:53.360 --> 00:15:56.159
So here's what I want you to understand.
00:15:56.399 --> 00:16:00.559
We need to look at the lab ranges differently.
00:16:00.720 --> 00:16:09.039
There's optimal ranges, and then there's your mess, you need to be in the hospital ranges, and we are looking at the wrong ranges.
00:16:09.279 --> 00:16:18.240
So when I first started studying functional medicine and they explained this concept to me, I was just like, what?
00:16:18.559 --> 00:16:19.759
What are you talking about?
00:16:20.000 --> 00:16:22.080
TSH shouldn't be above two.
00:16:22.639 --> 00:16:28.000
And the the cool thing is conventional medicine is starting to come around.
00:16:28.159 --> 00:16:41.919
Like reproductive endocrinologists now acknowledge they have um showed the research that a TSH above two makes it really hard for women to get pregnant because we're not ovulating consistently.
00:16:42.000 --> 00:16:45.360
The thyroid is suppressing ovulation in the ovaries.
00:16:45.600 --> 00:17:04.240
And so, yes, the optimal range is less than two, but it took decades of telling women that your thyroid's fine, there's nothing wrong with you, and these lies being perpetuated so that it's really hard to shift that narrative.
00:17:04.319 --> 00:17:06.160
And it's not gonna happen overnight.
00:17:06.240 --> 00:17:16.960
It takes time, so you still have thousands of doctors around the world who think a TSH of six or four is good and it feels like garbage.
00:17:17.119 --> 00:17:22.160
I'm here to tell you, I'm living proof when I had that elevated TSH level.
00:17:22.319 --> 00:17:30.319
I was falling asleep at my desk, I was 30 pounds heavier, my like I couldn't remember stuff, my brain wouldn't work.
00:17:30.559 --> 00:17:34.720
And it's because my thyroid was struggling and not optimal.
00:17:34.960 --> 00:17:40.480
So that's why we created the lab, you know, PDF for you to just look.
00:17:40.559 --> 00:17:53.680
And then if you're way outside of that, maybe you need to work with a provider like our team, but find someone who understands the difference between like hospitalized ranges and optimal ranges.
00:17:54.000 --> 00:17:54.480
I love that.
00:17:54.559 --> 00:17:56.240
I think that's a really great way to say that.
00:17:56.319 --> 00:18:01.119
Um, I don't think I've ever heard you say it like that before, and I I love that, it's really powerful.
00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:06.160
Um, okay, so the next question comes from so many times.
00:18:06.240 --> 00:18:12.000
This has been asked in different ways, and it's either about perimenopause or menopause.
00:18:12.319 --> 00:18:14.400
What are those things really?
00:18:14.559 --> 00:18:16.640
Like what is perimenopause?
00:18:16.880 --> 00:18:18.160
What is menopause?
00:18:18.319 --> 00:18:20.000
And I want to put in a little plug here.
00:18:20.079 --> 00:18:24.559
You did three amazing episodes with Candace Cameron Buret that you can listen to.
00:18:24.720 --> 00:18:32.960
Wim ladies, if you haven't listened to those, I highly recommend because Tabitha really breaks it down into three different episodes and answers this question.
00:18:33.119 --> 00:18:36.240
But can you just give us a high level like what is menopause?
00:18:36.319 --> 00:18:37.680
What is perimenopause?
00:18:37.920 --> 00:18:43.359
And why do people, women, just feel completely unprepared for these seasons?
00:18:43.599 --> 00:18:44.160
Yeah.
00:18:44.480 --> 00:18:48.960
This is really important because it is all the rage right now.
00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:54.319
Everybody's talking about it, but a lot of people that are talking are clueless.
00:18:54.480 --> 00:18:56.559
I'm just gonna be real and honest.
00:18:56.640 --> 00:18:57.680
I'm sorry.
00:18:57.920 --> 00:19:02.960
Um, and I was clueless as an OBGYN, I'll full fully admit.
00:19:03.200 --> 00:19:13.680
Menopause simply means you have gone a year without your period because your ovary factories have shut down, they're no longer producing and hormones and ovulating.
00:19:13.839 --> 00:19:20.079
And when you hit the year mark, that has been considered the definition of urine menopause.
00:19:20.240 --> 00:19:25.680
Some women they will jump back in and start producing again, but it's rare.
00:19:25.839 --> 00:19:30.000
And usually we see consistently elevated FSH levels.
00:19:30.160 --> 00:19:34.000
You want to check that more than once, you got to check it a few times.
00:19:34.319 --> 00:19:44.799
And perimenopause is this blanket term that is supposed to describe the time before that transition, before menopause.
00:19:44.960 --> 00:19:55.359
And when I went to medical school a long, long time ago, we were trained that perimenopause was one to two years before the menopausal transition.
00:19:55.519 --> 00:19:57.200
The average age is 51.
00:19:57.359 --> 00:20:02.720
So around 49 or so, you might start to have some changes.
00:20:02.880 --> 00:20:06.960
You might start to skip a period, or they might come a little closer together.
00:20:07.039 --> 00:20:13.200
You might have some mood swings, um, or more PMS, some night sweats.
00:20:14.160 --> 00:20:27.599
Now, women are defining perimenopause as this 10 to 15 year journey of misery, of like roller coaster of emotions and weight and all of these symptoms.
00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:31.519
I love y'all, but that's not perimenopause.
00:20:31.680 --> 00:20:33.039
I'm just gonna tell you the truth.
00:20:33.200 --> 00:20:39.839
We call it that so that women finally feel like they're understanding what's going on and they're feeling heard.
00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:43.599
But the truth of it is it's hormonal dysregulation.
00:20:44.000 --> 00:20:44.960
You're in chaos.
00:20:45.279 --> 00:20:48.000
You are in chaos for multiple reasons.
00:20:48.160 --> 00:20:49.359
This is not normal.
00:20:49.519 --> 00:20:53.680
Just because we are all experiencing it does not make it normal.
00:20:53.920 --> 00:20:54.240
Okay.
00:20:54.480 --> 00:21:05.839
That is a really important thing because now what I'm seeing in this social media trend that's taken over is oh, thank God, I understand what's wrong with me.
00:21:05.920 --> 00:21:07.440
I'm just in perimenopause.
00:21:07.519 --> 00:21:10.240
And then they live in misery for 10 to 15 years.
00:21:10.400 --> 00:21:11.920
Don't sign up for that lie.
00:21:12.000 --> 00:21:12.960
That's crap.
00:21:13.279 --> 00:21:15.039
Yeah, you definitely don't have to do that.
00:21:15.359 --> 00:21:16.480
No, you don't.
00:21:16.640 --> 00:21:25.440
You are in hormonal chaos because of what's going on in your environment and how it's affecting your body.
00:21:25.599 --> 00:21:29.839
So, number one, our diet is absolute garbage in this country.
00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:36.400
We have destroyed our grains to the point that our body does not recognize wheat anymore.
00:21:36.559 --> 00:21:38.079
It thinks it's foreign.
00:21:38.559 --> 00:21:42.000
And so now we see everybody with these gluten sensitivities.
00:21:42.240 --> 00:21:49.279
It's because the pesticides, the organophosphates, have destroyed the protein so much that our body thinks it's foreign.
00:21:49.839 --> 00:21:52.640
So our poor gut is always leaky.
00:21:52.720 --> 00:21:55.839
It's always our immune system's always on high alert.
00:21:56.079 --> 00:21:59.759
And that tells our ovaries that it is not safe in this.
00:22:00.240 --> 00:22:03.680
Environment to reproduce, so shut down the factory.
00:22:03.759 --> 00:22:07.279
And so you see all this hormonal imbalance happening.
00:22:07.519 --> 00:22:10.000
Infertility is like out of control.
00:22:10.240 --> 00:22:12.799
The other thing, environmental toxins.
00:22:13.119 --> 00:22:17.200
We now have this whole world of plastics that did not exist.
00:22:17.440 --> 00:22:22.319
When I was a child, I don't remember like hardly any plastic in my life.
00:22:22.480 --> 00:22:22.720
Yeah.
00:22:22.880 --> 00:22:24.640
And now it's literally everywhere.
00:22:24.720 --> 00:22:26.319
I'm looking at it all over the place.
00:22:27.200 --> 00:22:30.400
And it's in our body, and our body doesn't know what to do with it.
00:22:30.640 --> 00:22:32.720
There's so much toxin just on our clothes.
00:22:32.960 --> 00:22:34.000
Oh my gosh.
00:22:34.240 --> 00:22:44.880
Some women will get, you know, clothes that have fire retardant or um chemicals, polyester chemicals, different things.
00:22:45.119 --> 00:22:53.359
As soon as you start working out and exercising in those clothes and sweating and your body's absorbing those chemicals, like women get really sick.
00:22:53.599 --> 00:22:59.359
And so we have got to get back to natural fibers and get these chemicals out of our clothes.
00:22:59.519 --> 00:23:10.240
They act as endocrine disruptors so that our hormones, our hormone receptors are being signaled when it's not actually a hormone, it's a chemical.
00:23:36.559 --> 00:23:37.839
Yeah, it's so good.
00:23:38.000 --> 00:23:44.240
And what we do, we just have to pay attention to all of the things in our environment and control what we can control.
00:23:44.720 --> 00:23:48.400
So our homes, especially, we can control what happens there.
00:23:48.559 --> 00:23:48.880
Yeah.
00:23:49.119 --> 00:23:53.920
Um, okay, so if it's not just hormones, what actually helps?
00:23:55.839 --> 00:23:56.880
So many things.
00:23:57.039 --> 00:23:59.599
We need to get back to basics.
00:24:00.000 --> 00:24:13.440
Here's the truth of it God designed the world and us to live in it in such a beautiful way, and we fight it all the time because of our ego, our pride.
00:24:13.599 --> 00:24:17.839
We think we know better, we think we can improve things and make things better.
00:24:18.000 --> 00:24:20.400
And to a certain extent, that is true.
00:24:20.640 --> 00:24:34.000
God gave us brains to invent and create and improve things, but foundationally, there are some things that He said here's how your physiology in your body works.
00:24:34.160 --> 00:24:36.240
It's like the biology of your body.
00:24:36.400 --> 00:24:48.480
Like a plant um takes the oxygen and the sunlight and creates, you know, the photosynthesis and the chlorophyll, and that's how it grows.
00:24:48.640 --> 00:24:51.279
And God said, Here's your body.
00:24:51.440 --> 00:24:59.119
I actually created it to function on animal proteins, plant proteins, plant fiber, and healthy fats.
00:24:59.359 --> 00:25:04.400
And if you aren't getting those in your cells, your cells won't function properly.
00:25:04.559 --> 00:25:07.200
They won't do their photosynthesis type situation.
00:25:07.359 --> 00:25:09.599
I'm trying to like keep this kindergarten level.
00:25:09.759 --> 00:25:10.079
Yeah.
00:25:10.319 --> 00:25:12.480
Um, but that's the truth of it.
00:25:12.559 --> 00:25:17.359
And then we don't give our bodies how what they were designed to have.
00:25:17.519 --> 00:25:27.279
It's like what I say in the fast of faith in my book is you put diesel fuel in your regular car that calls for unleaded.
00:25:27.680 --> 00:25:32.319
Just because it's a fuel you're putting in that car, that car will break down.
00:25:32.559 --> 00:25:38.720
The combustion, the engine, everything will break down because it was not designed for diesel fuel.
00:25:38.799 --> 00:25:40.960
So you can't run your car on it.
00:25:41.039 --> 00:25:42.880
It will blow up.
00:25:43.119 --> 00:25:44.880
And that is literally what's happening.
00:25:44.960 --> 00:25:53.200
We're trying to run on this fuel that we've made in the labs that's absolute garbage that is not nourishing.
00:25:53.359 --> 00:25:58.480
We're not eating our healthy fats and our clean proteins and fiber.
00:25:58.960 --> 00:26:00.960
We're not drinking water anymore.
00:26:01.119 --> 00:26:11.519
We're drinking these chemicals, like these dyes and just like literally, they're chemicals, they're not even like real drinks.
00:26:11.839 --> 00:26:14.559
And we're like, why are we struggling?
00:26:14.640 --> 00:26:17.920
Uh, because you're putting diesel in your unleaded tank.
00:26:18.160 --> 00:26:19.359
Yeah, that's really good.
00:26:19.519 --> 00:26:23.119
And I also think this kind of brings back to the gluten-free situation, too.
00:26:23.200 --> 00:26:26.240
Like just because it says it's gluten-free, it doesn't mean it's healthy.
00:26:26.480 --> 00:26:34.720
And so read your labels, and there's probably a lot of words you can't read, and that's a pretty good indication you shouldn't be eating it to be completely transparent.
00:26:34.880 --> 00:26:36.799
So oh my gosh, that's so important.
00:26:36.960 --> 00:26:49.920
That's that is one of the ways women can fail in the 40-day program, is if they come in, they see, yeah, we don't really want you eating gluten or grains during this 40-day transition.
00:26:50.160 --> 00:26:51.759
They go straight for the gluten-free Oreos.
00:26:52.000 --> 00:26:55.359
They go for the gluten-free box and bagged crap.
00:26:55.599 --> 00:26:57.759
And it's just as toxic.
00:26:57.920 --> 00:27:01.519
It does you cannot swap out garbage for garbage.
00:27:01.680 --> 00:27:04.319
We have to get back to what I call faith foods.
00:27:04.480 --> 00:27:09.599
These are foods made by God, given to us by him since the beginning of time.
00:27:09.839 --> 00:27:13.039
Animals, plants, herbs, all those things.
00:27:13.200 --> 00:27:20.160
The stuff we're making in boxes and bags, if it can live on a shelf for five years, it's gonna kill you very quickly.
00:27:20.400 --> 00:27:20.720
Yeah.
00:27:20.960 --> 00:27:21.279
Okay.
00:27:21.680 --> 00:27:29.440
So there were several questions that kind of came about about vitamins and nutrients and diet and exercise.
00:27:29.680 --> 00:27:44.000
So thinking about all of those things that women in perimenopause or pre-perimenopause and then menopause women are thinking about, what are some of the habit changes that you made that had the biggest impact on your journey?
00:27:44.319 --> 00:27:45.680
Oh my gosh.
00:27:46.160 --> 00:27:49.680
I remember when I first started on this journey.
00:27:49.759 --> 00:27:52.720
You know, I was studying at the Institute of Functional Medicine.
00:27:52.880 --> 00:27:54.960
Mark Hyman was still the director.
00:27:55.119 --> 00:27:55.839
He was in charge.
00:27:56.000 --> 00:27:59.680
He had put out this book, Eat Fat, Get Thin.
00:27:59.839 --> 00:28:04.400
And I read this book and I did exactly what it said in the book.
00:28:04.559 --> 00:28:09.920
And I was eating a salad with MCT oil and some red wine vinaigrette.
00:28:10.240 --> 00:28:16.079
I had so much energy after that salad, and it just dawned on me.
00:28:16.400 --> 00:28:19.279
Oh my gosh, I think it's the MCT oil.
00:28:19.440 --> 00:28:22.799
My brain is finally getting what it needs.
00:28:23.200 --> 00:28:24.880
And that is the truth of it.
00:28:25.039 --> 00:28:30.240
MCT oil doesn't have to be changed, it goes straight into your cells.
00:28:30.400 --> 00:28:32.960
There's no like active transport that has to happen.
00:28:33.039 --> 00:28:36.400
And so it just gives you a little boost of energy.
00:28:36.480 --> 00:28:41.200
You do have to be careful because too much at once can, you know, affect your bowels.
00:28:41.599 --> 00:28:48.079
But that was a really critical moment for me because it was like I heard Dr.
00:28:48.240 --> 00:28:53.839
Hyman say food is information, food is medicine, but I felt it in that moment.
00:28:54.079 --> 00:28:58.799
And I was like, I want more of that, whatever that is.
00:28:59.119 --> 00:29:05.920
Because when I would eat a bowl of cereal or, you know, a couple pieces of pizza, I was miserable.
00:29:06.079 --> 00:29:10.960
I would be depressed for three days, or I would just have no energy and I'd want to take a nap.
00:29:11.119 --> 00:29:13.039
I'm like, why don't I have energy?
00:29:13.119 --> 00:29:14.079
I just ate.
00:29:14.240 --> 00:29:28.799
Yeah, it's because I'm eating the wrong things and it's actually depleting me, and it's actually requiring my um B vitamins and magnesium and all the good stuff to break down that garbage I just ate and digest it.
00:29:28.960 --> 00:29:34.319
So it's like you're you're robbing Peter to pay Paul and you're continuing to stay depleted.
00:29:34.640 --> 00:29:41.039
So I would encourage everybody like start with one thing and see what it does.
00:29:41.200 --> 00:29:45.440
But the truth of it is, I've been saying this for a decade now.
00:29:46.319 --> 00:29:53.680
I was so unhealthy that it was my norm, that I just felt like garbage all the time.
00:29:54.319 --> 00:30:01.759
That I until I really cleaned up everything, I didn't know what feeling good felt like.
00:30:01.920 --> 00:30:05.200
But once I got a taste of it, I didn't want to go back.
00:30:05.440 --> 00:30:09.039
And so we hear this over and over in Fast of Faith.
00:30:09.119 --> 00:30:13.440
Like, oh my gosh, I didn't know how bad it was until I didn't feel that way anymore.
00:30:13.759 --> 00:30:15.680
We just keep raising our level of acceptance.
00:30:15.920 --> 00:30:16.880
Yeah, the tolerance.
00:30:17.039 --> 00:30:20.720
Like, okay, I just now I have pain in my back and my knee.
00:30:20.880 --> 00:30:21.039
Yeah.
00:30:21.200 --> 00:30:24.079
And now I have chronic headaches, and that's just how life is.
00:30:24.240 --> 00:30:26.240
And I just I don't have energy.
00:30:26.480 --> 00:30:28.079
You're just getting old.
00:30:28.240 --> 00:30:30.960
Like, can we stop saying that to patients already?
00:30:31.119 --> 00:30:32.400
It makes me so angry.
00:30:32.640 --> 00:30:32.960
Yeah.
00:30:33.119 --> 00:30:37.359
So we dived into nutrition a couple weeks ago with our certified nutritionist.
00:30:37.680 --> 00:30:48.240
Um, and so if you haven't watched that episode, I highly recommend that you go back and watch that episode because she dives into a little bit deeper about nutrition for uh women in perimenopause and menopause.
00:30:48.319 --> 00:30:58.400
Um, but also let's talk about workouts because I think that's something that really needs to change because so much has been just pushed about cardio, cardio, cardio.
00:30:58.559 --> 00:31:02.960
And so why don't you tell us a little bit about about how your fitness journey has changed over the years?
00:31:03.279 --> 00:31:13.599
Oh my gosh, I love this question because there's so much guilt and shame around exercise.
00:31:13.839 --> 00:31:16.160
Like, why can't I have more willpower?
00:31:16.319 --> 00:31:18.160
Why can't I have more discipline?
00:31:18.400 --> 00:31:21.359
And I just used to beat myself up.
00:31:21.519 --> 00:31:23.359
Like, oh my gosh, you have a day off.
00:31:23.440 --> 00:31:29.359
Why can't you get off your butt and get on this elliptical that's like two feet away from you?
00:31:29.680 --> 00:31:32.319
I just couldn't do it at some point.
00:31:32.559 --> 00:31:38.480
And the truth of it was I was like trying to beat my body and abuse it.
00:31:38.720 --> 00:31:41.759
I wasn't trying to work with it or love on it.
00:31:41.920 --> 00:31:48.720
And I I I've come to understand that in order to change your body, you have to love it into change.
00:31:48.880 --> 00:31:53.680
You have to love it where it's at, and then it will start to do what it needs to do.
00:31:53.920 --> 00:31:56.960
But it's like a little child or a little dog.
00:31:57.119 --> 00:32:05.440
The more you beat it and abuse it, just the more it's gonna shrink down into the fetal position and like not function, right?
00:32:06.000 --> 00:32:08.240
Hold on to all that fat and all the cells.
00:32:08.480 --> 00:32:10.720
Oh my gosh, you just hold on.
00:32:11.200 --> 00:32:16.640
And so what I learned, I had this epiphany one day.
00:32:16.720 --> 00:32:21.759
I was doing like a workout video in my living room because my kids were little, you gotta do what you gotta do.
00:32:22.640 --> 00:32:30.720
And I was so tired I couldn't get through, and I was like beating myself up, going through all that mental garbage in my head.
00:32:30.880 --> 00:32:36.160
And then I just had this thought wait a second, I just started my period today.
00:32:36.319 --> 00:32:39.839
I wonder if my hormones affect this.
00:32:40.000 --> 00:32:41.440
And this was a decade ago.
00:32:41.599 --> 00:32:52.880
I wish I would have like jumped on that bandwagon and made an app because you do need to work out differently during different times of your cycle, and that is a real thing.
00:32:53.119 --> 00:32:58.400
Your energy availability is different every week of that four week.
00:32:58.640 --> 00:33:04.640
Your creativity, like it is so important to plan around your cycle.
00:33:04.720 --> 00:33:13.359
And and very truly, honestly, when I started doing this and looking at the calendar, like even when you plan a vacation, yes, look, I'm so serious.
00:33:13.519 --> 00:33:38.000
Like, look at where you're gonna be on your cycle because if it's a bad week, like don't do it because then you're just gonna push yourself to do things, and obviously life is going to happen, whether it's your cycle or whatever, but it is so important to have that knowledge and be okay saying, like, no, I cannot go with you to create XYZ that week because I know where my creativity energy is going to be.
00:33:38.160 --> 00:33:42.559
And it knowledge is power, and tracking your cycle is power.
00:33:42.799 --> 00:33:45.680
Yeah, it has absolutely been a game changer.
00:33:45.839 --> 00:33:50.480
And so I would invite you to get curious about yourself.
00:33:50.640 --> 00:33:54.400
Like, when do you feel good during the month?
00:33:54.640 --> 00:33:59.599
When do you need more downtime, more rest time, more carbohydrates?
00:33:59.759 --> 00:34:06.079
Like this is the kind of stuff we talk about in Fast of Faith because we are not little men.
00:34:06.400 --> 00:34:08.079
We are not created like them.
00:34:08.239 --> 00:34:11.519
We don't get to do the same thing all month long.
00:34:11.840 --> 00:34:38.159
And when women are in this quote unquote perimenopause transition for 10 to 15 years, hello, it's really hard to discern what your body needs because you're having all of these symptoms that your body's trying to talk to you and tell you something, but if you don't know what it's saying, you're just gonna be more confused, more frustrated, and more um apt to give up on stuff.
00:34:38.320 --> 00:34:46.800
So you have to clean up the foundation, get curious, and then go from there with that information.
00:34:47.199 --> 00:34:50.800
Okay, so before we move on, because I have a thought, but I don't want to distract.
00:34:50.880 --> 00:34:54.239
So will you tell the listeners what you do now for workouts?
00:34:54.320 --> 00:34:55.679
Yeah, because you love it.
00:34:56.800 --> 00:34:57.119
Yeah.
00:34:57.280 --> 00:35:04.000
And I just want to say so, the first cycle day one is the first day you start bleeding.
00:35:04.159 --> 00:35:06.559
Um, and it's usually five to seven days.
00:35:06.639 --> 00:35:07.840
That's traditional.
00:35:08.000 --> 00:35:10.400
It could be shorter, it could be longer.
00:35:10.719 --> 00:35:14.320
But that first day, you're probably gonna be low energy.
00:35:14.480 --> 00:35:17.519
You're probably gonna be like, let me just chill.
00:35:17.840 --> 00:35:26.159
And uh after a few days of that, you're going to get this energy spike because your estrogen starts to go back up.
00:35:26.239 --> 00:35:29.760
You're starting a new cycle and it feels really good.
00:35:29.840 --> 00:35:31.440
And you have so much creativity.
00:35:31.599 --> 00:35:35.119
You're like, I know I'm not a songwriter, but let me write a song today.
00:35:35.519 --> 00:35:35.920
So true.
00:35:36.079 --> 00:35:36.400
You know?
00:35:36.559 --> 00:35:46.000
But I feel like if you're not getting that, you're most likely going into those energy reserves day one through three, and you're forcing yourself to do stuff that you shouldn't be doing.
00:35:46.159 --> 00:35:46.400
Yes.
00:35:46.559 --> 00:35:51.920
And so if you're not feeling that, that's because you're sucking it out of you, days one through three.
00:35:52.159 --> 00:35:52.480
Yes.
00:35:52.719 --> 00:35:59.360
So give yourself a break that first couple days, especially if you have heavy periods and you're trying to work out of that.
00:35:59.599 --> 00:36:01.840
You might have an iron deficiency problem.
00:36:01.920 --> 00:36:05.760
And iron is one of the main ingredients to make your energy, your ATP.
00:36:06.079 --> 00:36:10.559
So then you have this estrogen spike, you're like on top of the world.
00:36:10.880 --> 00:36:19.599
Go run, do all the HIT classes, do whatever you feel compelled to go do, like hiking, all the fun things.
00:36:19.920 --> 00:36:29.760
And then when you ovulate, or the a few days before that, your testosterone's gonna spike because your body's trying to get pregnant and get you to get busy, right?
00:36:30.159 --> 00:36:35.039
And so you're like, oh my gosh, I just have a desire for life.
00:36:35.199 --> 00:36:45.440
And maybe that's when you and your husband go out on a date or whatever it is, but capture that time of feeling a drive for life and do something.
00:36:45.760 --> 00:36:47.519
You're probably craving lifting weights too.
00:36:47.679 --> 00:36:49.119
That's when I like to lift the heaviest.
00:36:49.760 --> 00:37:04.719
Yes, like get after it, get in the gym, stop being afraid of it, get some lessons, get a trainer, and then once you ovulate and the progesterone starts to increase, that's your body saying, Okay, I'm hoping to get pregnant this month.
00:37:04.880 --> 00:37:12.400
Even if you don't want to get pregnant, your body wants to, and so it wants to nurture and nest and chill a little bit.
00:37:12.639 --> 00:37:33.760
And so now you need to like go to yoga, you need to do some stretching or tai chi or Pilates and like nurture relationships, hang out with your girlfriends, go to Bible study, do those things, and then you those hormones drop and you're tired and rest as much as your body requires.
00:37:34.079 --> 00:37:40.079
So I just want you to understand that it's okay to do things different in different weeks.
00:37:40.320 --> 00:37:41.599
And I get it.
00:37:41.760 --> 00:37:52.000
Some women's schedules are are not flexible, they have to do the same things, but now you can give yourself grace because you know why you feel differently than you did last week.
00:37:52.159 --> 00:37:54.960
You're not failing, you don't suck, it's none of that stuff.
00:37:55.199 --> 00:37:57.039
Like it's your physiology.
00:37:57.199 --> 00:37:59.360
Learn to work with it, right?
00:37:59.519 --> 00:38:00.800
Yeah, exactly.
00:38:00.880 --> 00:38:07.519
And that's something in Fast of Faith that we teach women and is perfectly how to eat during these different um times, too.
00:38:07.679 --> 00:38:16.639
Because when you were talking about the progesterone rising, I was thinking about how during that time I get so hungry if I don't eat enough protein and fat.
00:38:16.880 --> 00:38:25.920
And then what happens is that's usually when I try to go to the carbs because it's like what I'm craving, but it's not what's best for me, and I'm gonna end up crashing, anyways.
00:38:26.000 --> 00:38:28.639
It seems like that's where the blood sugar gets kind of crazy for me.
00:38:28.880 --> 00:38:33.199
And so I think it's again, it's important to track and keep notes of all of these things.
00:38:33.360 --> 00:38:46.719
So I I would say something that we talk about a lot is like we don't really track, we don't really keep things in apps, but when it comes to your cycle, I think this is one time where it's like really important that you do track and keep keep track of it.
00:38:46.960 --> 00:38:49.920
Yeah, and you're gonna get to know yourself.
00:38:50.079 --> 00:38:50.800
Yeah, you do.
00:38:51.039 --> 00:39:02.559
What we see, especially at the medical practice side, is women are so disconnected from their bodies and themselves because they are high performers, they're do do do.
00:39:03.119 --> 00:39:10.159
And so this disconnect happens, and they're like, I don't know how I feel, I don't know what my body's saying, I don't know why my body does this.
00:39:10.480 --> 00:39:14.400
It's like, well, you're gonna know your body the best.
00:39:14.559 --> 00:39:25.360
And once you get that information, that's like a lifelong gift that you can always figure out what your body is missing and what it needs.
00:39:25.519 --> 00:39:26.559
It's so powerful.
00:39:26.800 --> 00:39:27.840
And communicate.
00:39:28.000 --> 00:39:30.880
It's so important to communicate to your husband.
00:39:30.960 --> 00:39:36.960
And obviously, you might not sit down to your kids and let them know, like, it's cycle day 12, and mom is feeling XYZ.
00:39:37.119 --> 00:39:44.559
But I think it is important for even just your friends in your life to just say, like, no, I'm really sorry, but I just know I'm not gonna feel it.
00:39:44.800 --> 00:39:51.840
So you you have different times of the month where you feel super social, and other times where you're like, I like to just be with myself right now in the Lord.
00:39:52.079 --> 00:39:54.079
So I think it's okay to say that.
00:39:54.320 --> 00:40:02.320
Yeah, I I find it so fascinating that men and husbands know their women better than women know themselves.
00:40:02.559 --> 00:40:08.320
Like, I will have patients who say, Oh, my husband says I'm this during this time.
00:40:08.480 --> 00:40:12.159
And like he knows her so well, yet she's in denial.
00:40:12.239 --> 00:40:17.440
She doesn't want to hear it because she feels like it's a dig or it's a cut down.
00:40:17.679 --> 00:40:20.719
And it's like, no, he's paying attention to you.
00:40:20.880 --> 00:40:22.639
That's what you're supposed to be doing.
00:40:22.800 --> 00:40:23.119
I know.
00:40:23.199 --> 00:40:25.039
My husband calls it sensitive Sally time.
00:40:25.199 --> 00:40:29.280
He's like, oh, that's something I shouldn't say during sensitive Sally time.
00:40:29.360 --> 00:40:30.320
I'm like, Yeah, thank you.
00:40:30.480 --> 00:40:32.639
Thanks for recognizing and we move on.
00:40:32.960 --> 00:40:35.679
So it is, it's important to have these conversations.
00:40:35.760 --> 00:40:36.320
It really is.
00:40:36.400 --> 00:40:46.400
And I think even if you're the only one in your friend group that is talking about this, just keep having the conversation because you're gonna impact them eventually and they're gonna thank you.
00:40:46.639 --> 00:40:57.920
If you're watching this, and I remember when I started really getting into my cycle about five years ago when I got a certification in it, I was like, why do I care about this right now?
00:40:58.480 --> 00:41:05.280
But I'm so glad that I learned in my early 30s this information rather than waiting until it was too late.
00:41:05.440 --> 00:41:18.000
So if you're in your 20s or 30s and you're listening to this, it is so important to start making these changes now because you're not gonna go into peri menopause until it's actually time and you're not gonna feel all these weird feelings.
00:41:18.239 --> 00:41:22.800
So that is my biggest advice from this episode is start to know your body.
00:41:22.880 --> 00:41:24.960
The earlier you can do it, the better.
00:41:25.199 --> 00:41:25.519
Yeah.
00:41:25.760 --> 00:41:28.639
And if it is quote unquote too late, yeah.
00:41:29.360 --> 00:41:33.280
You're old like me, um, it's actually never too late.
00:41:33.519 --> 00:41:36.480
There isn't always more to learn about your body.
00:41:36.639 --> 00:41:47.519
It's just that the season changes, and it's not that you get to monitor or track your cycle, but you still have a natural rhythm.
00:41:47.679 --> 00:41:51.920
We have circadian rhythms, we have rhythms throughout our days.
00:41:52.159 --> 00:42:20.639
And when we start to work with that as opposed to against it, or to fight it, or ignore it and disregard it, um, it's so much smoother, and you can actually enjoy your life and focus on why you're here, your purpose, your calling, as opposed to your doctor's appointments and your procedures and your medicines and all your symptoms.
00:42:20.800 --> 00:42:23.760
Like that is such a waste of time.
00:42:24.159 --> 00:42:31.519
Like, as soon as my body starts, you know, having all these symptoms again, I just I'm like, no, we're not doing that.
00:42:31.679 --> 00:42:32.960
It's not necessary.
00:42:33.599 --> 00:42:39.119
Let me listen, let me figure it out, and I can pivot out of that so much quicker.
00:42:39.280 --> 00:42:42.559
Whereas it used to just take me out for weeks out of time.
00:42:42.800 --> 00:42:43.039
Yeah.
00:42:43.280 --> 00:43:00.559
When we did our episode in January about going um beyond the resolution and talking a lot about the importance of how a lot of people are setting resolutions later on in the year, making changes because really in January, February, we should still kind of be in that hibernation.
00:43:00.639 --> 00:43:02.880
It's still winter, like our body's in a season.
00:43:03.119 --> 00:43:06.320
So, right now, as women are listening, we're in the thick of Lent.
00:43:06.480 --> 00:43:11.920
And so talk a little bit about fast of faith and Lent and how they go together.
00:43:12.320 --> 00:43:28.000
Yeah, I think it's really important if you call Jesus your savior, like it's time to soften your heart and acknowledge just how much he actually suffered for you.
00:43:28.800 --> 00:43:34.000
Like, uh not just suffered in general for humanity, for you.
00:43:34.159 --> 00:43:37.599
This the woman listening right now, Jesus did that for you.
00:43:37.760 --> 00:43:44.800
So if you cannot quote unquote suffer for a minute, like we have bigger issues.
00:43:45.039 --> 00:43:47.440
And we are called to suffer well.
00:43:47.760 --> 00:43:59.840
And I have really embraced that idea because it has made me such a better person and not suffer unnecessarily, not suffer because it's self induced, not suffering.
00:44:00.159 --> 00:44:03.280
Suffer because we can't break up with sugar.
00:44:03.519 --> 00:44:06.800
Suffer because God is doing something deeper in you.
00:44:06.960 --> 00:44:15.920
He's working on you and in you and through you to better you, to better other people and to glorify him.
00:44:16.320 --> 00:44:24.960
So we have to quit suffering unnecessarily for stuff that is not important and suffer for Jesus.
00:44:25.199 --> 00:44:35.920
And when I think of Lent, like I used to think, okay, let me give up whatever's the least painful to give up so that I can brag about it and say that I did it.
00:44:36.559 --> 00:44:36.880
Right.
00:44:37.039 --> 00:44:39.760
And that's just our typical ego self.
00:44:40.159 --> 00:45:12.159
When you really are giving your heart to God and you're asking Jesus to like make your heart more like his, you want to suffer well and you want to say, what will actually edify me to be more Christ-like and to bring you closer to me and to glorify you so that when people see me walking around or hear me talking or doing something out in the community, they think, man, she must know Jesus.
00:45:12.480 --> 00:45:12.800
Right.
00:45:13.119 --> 00:45:30.400
And so when we talk about doing fast of faith during Lent, it's really about how can I take responsibility for my part in what my body's doing, how I'm feeling, how I'm showing up, and then let God do that deeper work in me.
00:45:30.719 --> 00:45:35.840
And I'll just be honest, it's really hard to surrender.
00:45:36.159 --> 00:45:36.960
It really is.
00:45:37.039 --> 00:45:45.760
And I work on it every single day, but there's so much freedom in it, and it's like the best thing you could ever do for yourself.
00:45:46.079 --> 00:45:46.880
Yeah, it's so good.
00:45:46.960 --> 00:45:51.599
And so right now we're running a Lent special all through Lent for the Fast of Faith program.
00:45:52.000 --> 00:45:58.480
But if you can't join us for the full um 40 days, you can also just start with our five-day challenge.
00:45:58.559 --> 00:46:03.760
I think it's a great place for women to start and get a taste of what it's like to be part of our sisterhood.
00:46:04.000 --> 00:46:05.920
Yeah, I mean, I understand.
00:46:06.159 --> 00:46:08.159
We are in a trust recession.
00:46:08.400 --> 00:46:09.599
Why should you trust me?
00:46:09.760 --> 00:46:11.920
Why should you trust anybody, right?
00:46:12.239 --> 00:46:14.559
Here's what I'm gonna say.
00:46:15.440 --> 00:46:18.800
We just follow the word of God as best that we can.
00:46:18.960 --> 00:46:22.400
We're all human, so we all fall short.
00:46:22.880 --> 00:46:28.880
But at Fast of Faith, what we are trying to do is live how God is calling us to live.
00:46:29.119 --> 00:46:30.880
And it looks messy.
00:46:31.119 --> 00:46:40.239
We have our failures, but we continue to fail forward and continue to be edified and ask God to just mold us into the women He wants us to be.
00:46:40.480 --> 00:46:45.519
And we do it in a community because that is how God called us to live.
00:46:45.840 --> 00:46:54.239
And so if that is something you feel like I need the accountability, I need that support, that is okay.
00:46:54.400 --> 00:46:57.360
We're not supposed to do life alone.
00:46:57.599 --> 00:46:59.760
Just surrender already.
00:47:00.079 --> 00:47:00.639
Yeah.
00:47:00.960 --> 00:47:08.159
So the last question is women are listening to this, they're overwhelmed, they feel dismissed, they feel alone.
00:47:08.400 --> 00:47:10.719
What is your best advice for them?
00:47:11.199 --> 00:47:12.880
Join the sisterhood.
00:47:13.199 --> 00:47:19.280
Like, I'm sorry, but you don't even need to know the details of Fast of Faith.
00:47:19.360 --> 00:47:21.519
You don't need to know the details of the program.
00:47:21.760 --> 00:47:29.440
If you are feeling nudged, if God told you to listen to this episode, if you are just feeling pulled, you just go with it.
00:47:29.599 --> 00:47:31.760
You don't get to see all the steps.
00:47:31.920 --> 00:47:36.400
You just take that next step forward of like, yes, I'm supposed to join.
00:47:36.559 --> 00:47:45.679
And as soon as you get in there and you see the conversations these women are having, like they're such high level.
00:47:45.920 --> 00:47:52.960
We are non-judgment, non-gossipy, non-umcritizing.
00:47:53.119 --> 00:47:55.199
You know, this is not a competition.
00:47:55.360 --> 00:47:56.800
This is collaboration.
00:47:56.960 --> 00:47:59.360
We're supporting you, we're your cheerleader.
00:47:59.599 --> 00:48:04.719
It feels good when you go in there and see how the women are talking to each other.
00:48:04.880 --> 00:48:10.480
It is not like middle school that you might be experiencing as a grown woman.
00:48:10.719 --> 00:48:12.719
Hello, we are not in middle school anymore.
00:48:12.800 --> 00:48:13.920
We need to stop.
00:48:14.320 --> 00:48:19.039
And so I would say, like, you deserve better.
00:48:19.840 --> 00:48:21.920
Say, I'm not gonna tolerate that anymore.
00:48:22.079 --> 00:48:28.639
Just like you're not gonna tolerate being in pain or having heavy periods or having daily migraines.
00:48:28.719 --> 00:48:34.559
You're not gonna tolerate having gossipy friends that make you feel bad when you leave the group.
00:48:34.719 --> 00:48:36.559
Like, are they talking about me?
00:48:36.800 --> 00:48:40.239
Just call yourself higher because God is calling you higher.
00:48:40.400 --> 00:48:50.159
And that is what I want for every woman because we are raising a bunch of girls to be mean girls, and I can't have it anymore.
00:48:50.239 --> 00:48:52.639
Like, we just have to show them how to live better.
00:48:52.800 --> 00:48:58.800
And it really does start with holding ourselves accountable and having higher expectations.
00:48:59.280 --> 00:49:00.480
Yeah, that's so good.
00:49:00.719 --> 00:49:04.639
Do you have a verse that is laying on your heart that you want to share with us today?
00:49:04.880 --> 00:49:06.320
I do, I do.
00:49:06.719 --> 00:49:13.920
So when I was thinking about this episode, because women always want to know why they want to understand their bodies.
00:49:14.079 --> 00:49:18.639
That is why I wrote Fast of Faith, the book, to help you understand your body.
00:49:18.960 --> 00:49:31.599
But we have to get to a point where we also understand that we're not supposed to know everything, that there is a magical part of this relationship we have with God.
00:49:31.760 --> 00:49:44.159
And so Isaiah 55, 8 through 9, for my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
00:49:44.480 --> 00:49:52.639
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
00:49:52.880 --> 00:49:54.639
So God is calling us higher.
00:49:54.880 --> 00:49:59.760
He wants us to live of his kingdom, not of this broken world.
00:50:00.000 --> 00:50:04.159
And it is so easy to get caught up in this broken world.
00:50:04.320 --> 00:50:07.280
So we have to continue to call ourselves higher.
00:50:07.440 --> 00:50:09.760
Nope, I actually live of the kingdom.
00:50:09.920 --> 00:50:19.440
I don't participate in that, I don't eat that stuff, I don't have those conversations because I'm representing Jesus and his kingdom.
00:50:19.679 --> 00:50:33.280
And so if you can just start to like live into an Isaiah 55 life, like your whole life will level up, your friendships will level up, your marriage will level up, and your health will level up.
00:50:34.000 --> 00:50:34.639
So good.
00:50:34.960 --> 00:50:37.840
Yay! Yay, have an awesome week, ladies.
00:50:38.159 --> 00:50:39.760
See you next week.
