Most parents do everything they can. No sugar, no dairy, organic snacks. And still, something feels off. Their child snores. Their tonsils are enlarged. Nobody at the pediatric dentist's office seems concerned.
Dr. Caroline Jones has been in dentistry for over 30 years, and she wants parents to know: you are not overreacting. The questions you're asking are the right ones. The answers are just harder to find than they should be.
In this episode, Dr. Katie sits down with Dr. Jones, a wellness and biological dentist who now practices alongside her in Katy, Texas, to talk about what's missing from most children's dental care and what parents can do about it today.
Why this episode matters:
Dr. Jones came to wellness dentistry the same way many of her patients do, through her own health. Mercury toxicity from amalgam restorations placed decades ago has affected her liver, and she is still working through the downstream effects today. That lived experience shapes everything about how she practices and how she talks to patients.
This is not a theoretical conversation. It's two clinicians, both patients of their own philosophy, sharing what they've learned from decades in the chair and in the exam room.
What you'll learn in this episode:
Dr. Katie and Dr. Jones cover why snoring in children is not normal and what it often signals about airway development, why amalgam fillings are still being placed in underserved pediatric populations despite clear FDA warnings, and how allergens you would never suspect, like organic, non-GMO corn, can cause tonsil enlargement significant enough to mimic a surgical situation.
They also walk through the wisdom teeth conversation that the dental community is largely avoiding, the connection between third molars, energy meridians, and long-term health, and why blanket removal at 17 deserves far more scrutiny than it currently gets.
The cavitation discussion is one of the most practical in this episode. Dr. Katie explains why the procedure is correctly called an open bone biopsy, what the two independent pathology and histology tests actually reveal, and why a CBCT scan alone is not enough to diagnose what needs to be addressed. Dr. Jones shares her own screening experience and the surprise of discovering a cavitation she had no symptoms for.
For parents raising children right now, they close with something actionable. Annual blood work for children. Air filtration in the bedroom. The 30-minute eating window that reduces acid load and cavity risk without eliminating any food. And Dr. Jones's three daily non-negotiables, morning sunlight without sunglasses, continuous glucose monitoring, and consistent hydration, practices she built after decades of learning what her own body actually needed.

00:00:28.640 --> 00:00:31.359
Hi, welcome to the Wellness Dentist Podcast.
00:00:31.519 --> 00:00:32.399
I'm your host, Dr.
00:00:32.479 --> 00:00:37.520
Katie Toe, and today we live from Miami with a very special guest, Dr.
00:00:37.600 --> 00:00:38.640
Caroline Jones.
00:00:38.880 --> 00:00:39.439
Hi, Dr.
00:00:39.600 --> 00:00:39.920
Katie.
00:00:40.399 --> 00:00:41.759
And many of you know Dr.
00:00:41.840 --> 00:00:49.280
Jones is one of our wellness dentists, and she's have a wonderful wellness journey that I can't wait to share with you.
00:00:49.359 --> 00:00:49.920
So, Dr.
00:00:50.000 --> 00:00:52.719
Jones, can you share with us a little bit about your wellness journey?
00:00:53.039 --> 00:00:54.719
Yes, I'm so excited to be here.
00:00:54.880 --> 00:00:56.159
Thank you for having me on.
00:00:56.560 --> 00:00:58.719
My wellness journey started a long time ago.
00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:01.359
I was a victim of amalgam restorations.
00:01:01.520 --> 00:01:04.000
Unfortunately, all the mercury no one knew.
00:01:04.319 --> 00:01:06.239
And if they did, they weren't telling.
00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:09.519
So lots of effects against my liver.
00:01:09.599 --> 00:01:13.599
And so I'm still working through that about four decades later.
00:01:14.000 --> 00:01:23.760
So, yes, super happy to just get into the wellness experience as a patient, and then now providing wellness dentistry for our patients.
00:01:24.000 --> 00:01:24.879
So it's really nice.
00:01:24.959 --> 00:01:27.120
I appreciate you being my Sherpa.
00:01:27.439 --> 00:01:28.640
So yes, it's a great.
00:01:28.959 --> 00:01:35.840
And as a Huron American trust, I met you through a wonderful network of mommy dentists in business.
00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:36.239
Yes.
00:01:36.480 --> 00:01:41.760
And you got to spend time, you know, learning about cosmetic flowable composite with us.
00:01:42.000 --> 00:01:48.719
But for me, the biggest impression was we spent a week in Vietnam on the Operation Smile mission trip.
00:01:48.879 --> 00:01:49.359
That was wonderful.
00:01:49.599 --> 00:01:55.920
And that's my opportunity to see your heart, your beautiful soul when you take care of those children.
00:01:56.159 --> 00:01:59.920
And we had such a wonderful opportunity to be able to serve.
00:02:00.079 --> 00:02:08.479
Um, and children play a really important part in your dental um, I would say, journey also.
00:02:08.719 --> 00:02:15.039
Uh, you didn't start out as a pediatric dentist, but somehow you were drawn to treating a lot of children.
00:02:15.199 --> 00:02:19.360
So, can you share with us a little bit about of the work that you've done in South Dakota?
00:02:19.840 --> 00:02:26.479
Yes, so I was fortunate to be able to work with the Lakota children in um off the Pine Ridge Reservation.
00:02:26.560 --> 00:02:31.039
It's one of the most uh economically depressed areas of the nation.
00:02:31.199 --> 00:02:33.360
And these children just don't have access to care.
00:02:33.439 --> 00:02:43.439
So I worked with Black Hills Pediatric Dentistry, um, wonderful group of people, and we were able to really provide basic services to the Lakota kids.
00:02:43.599 --> 00:02:55.520
I think what's most important there as far as a wellness journey goes is the no one's really sharing what happens to children when they are not given the opportunity to have things that are healthy for them.
00:02:55.680 --> 00:02:58.639
Um the access to food is really difficult as well.
00:02:58.719 --> 00:03:00.719
So lots of convenience items.
00:03:00.800 --> 00:03:02.879
Um, refrigeration is not very common.
00:03:03.039 --> 00:03:08.159
Running water, sometimes surprisingly, is not present on uh in some homes.
00:03:08.240 --> 00:03:11.199
Um that makes it very difficult for kids to be well.
00:03:11.280 --> 00:03:19.680
Um, lots of allergens, lots of airway issues, um, tonsils that are touching, um, lots of things that are a challenge to wellness.
00:03:19.759 --> 00:03:26.000
So I think for parents out there, um, if you are seeking wellness for your child, you're not wrong.
00:03:26.080 --> 00:03:27.360
Um, you're not crazy.
00:03:27.439 --> 00:03:30.719
It's definitely something that you're correct in seeking.
00:03:30.879 --> 00:03:33.599
So snoring for kids, um that's not normal.
00:03:33.759 --> 00:03:41.439
So I would definitely want you to know, seek out answers from pediatricians, from wellness practitioners, functional medicine.
00:03:41.599 --> 00:03:42.879
It's really that important.
00:03:43.120 --> 00:03:48.879
The materials that we use in dentistry in a biological wellness practice are so critical.
00:03:49.039 --> 00:03:58.639
Um, mercury fillings, even today, are being used on some of the kids in the uh underserved populations, which is still do amalgam fillings in kids?
00:03:58.960 --> 00:03:59.520
Yes, absolutely.
00:03:59.840 --> 00:04:05.360
After the FDA have warned that amalgam fillings should not be used in pregnant women and kids.
00:04:05.680 --> 00:04:06.000
Correct.
00:04:06.080 --> 00:04:08.319
And that's been happening all over the globe.
00:04:08.479 --> 00:04:14.400
Um, you know, mercury amalgam fillings are outlawed in almost all other countries.
00:04:14.960 --> 00:04:15.680
Entire Europe, yes.
00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:22.000
Yeah, so it's just not appropriate because it is a neurotoxin, it stays in the brain, it crosses the blood-brain barrier.
00:04:22.240 --> 00:04:27.839
All of those things are just um shocking that it's still allowed to be used on kids.
00:04:27.920 --> 00:04:35.920
And in a population of parents that does not have access to the information, um, putting amalgam fillings is really criminal, in my opinion.
00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:41.680
So that's uh so it's like informed consent, but not really informed consent because you didn't have all the information to make the decision.
00:04:41.920 --> 00:04:42.560
That's right.
00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:45.439
And um, yeah, it's really shocking.
00:04:45.600 --> 00:04:51.199
So I'm super happy to be able to help parents guide them through a wellness journey for their children.
00:04:51.439 --> 00:04:57.439
So many additives in the United States are approved by the FDA um and really shouldn't be in our bodies.
00:04:57.519 --> 00:05:04.000
They're petrochemicals and things like that that are just not the red dyes, things that are causing health issues.
00:05:04.079 --> 00:05:05.360
Uh it's kind of stacking.
00:05:05.439 --> 00:05:11.120
So every single decade that you're living in affects the decades and the final decade of your life.
00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:12.480
Yeah, the last 10 years.
00:05:12.639 --> 00:05:13.439
Yes, that's right.
00:05:13.759 --> 00:05:23.920
But you know, I'm so glad now that you moved to Texas, because in Texas, we are having a movement to remove those food coloring and editive in children's snacks and food.
00:05:24.079 --> 00:05:24.319
Thank you.
00:05:24.560 --> 00:05:27.040
Which is why not protect our future, right?
00:05:27.199 --> 00:05:28.560
Our children as our future.
00:05:28.720 --> 00:05:33.839
And I'm so glad you mentioned about snoring in children because my son Bailey, you met him.
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:36.079
Yeah, he's wonderful, he's 10 years old now.
00:05:36.319 --> 00:05:44.240
And he did not snore all the time, sometime, and we noticed his tonsil was really enlarged.
00:05:44.560 --> 00:06:04.000
And we have no sugar, no dairy in at home, but we still did not know what caused it until our doctor did the testing and turned out corn, regardless if non-GMOs or organic, because we would get him snack, you know, popcorn, but it's non-GMO and organic uh popcorn.
00:06:04.240 --> 00:06:07.519
But turn out even with that, his tonsil get really large.
00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:11.439
So what we did is for 30 days, we remove corn out of his diet.
00:06:11.680 --> 00:06:13.839
And guys, his tonsils shrink 50%.
00:06:14.319 --> 00:06:14.959
That's amazing.
00:06:15.279 --> 00:06:23.680
And so instead of have to go to ENT and get the tonsil removed, we'd be able to shrink that with remove the right allergent.
00:06:23.839 --> 00:06:24.079
Right.
00:06:24.240 --> 00:06:32.000
And so I'm glad that you bring it up because a lot of parents thinking, okay, I already do no sugar, no dairy, which is very challenged for parents in raising kids.
00:06:32.079 --> 00:06:38.000
I know it is really hard to raise children in this day and age compared to our parents and our grandparents.
00:06:38.240 --> 00:06:38.959
The food is different.
00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:45.920
Yeah, there's not a lot of temptations back then or not access, not you didn't even have that at school and at the grocery store.
00:06:46.000 --> 00:06:52.800
There's not a lot of uh snack um and things that like home cooking, but now your children exposed to so much, right?
00:06:53.040 --> 00:07:01.600
And so I'm glad that you bring it up because I think a lot of parents didn't know that, oh, I thought maybe just dairy, gluten, and uh sugar, but turn out there could be other things.
00:07:01.839 --> 00:07:03.680
Yes, the allergens are really high.
00:07:03.839 --> 00:07:09.040
And I think the inflammation in children is even more elevated with the just the environment.
00:07:09.120 --> 00:07:16.399
I mean, the air quality is of huge importance, so air filtration at home is gonna be something that a lot of people don't even think about.
00:07:16.480 --> 00:07:23.439
But that's right, yeah, the allergens on the bedding and you spend eight, ten hours, especially kids that sleep longer in the bedroom.
00:07:23.519 --> 00:07:23.680
Yes.
00:07:23.839 --> 00:07:26.000
Yeah, so we have air filter in the bedroom for each kid.
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:26.720
That's wonderful.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:30.240
And I think for parents out there, there are options that are affordable.
00:07:30.560 --> 00:07:37.360
Um, you don't have to spend, you know, all of your life savings trying to protect yourself from all of the allergens and pollutants.
00:07:37.439 --> 00:07:42.399
Um, but it's definitely important to make sure the indoor air quality is also appropriate.
00:07:42.560 --> 00:07:48.000
Um, one of the other things that I was going to share is the way that you can prevent decay in the first place.
00:07:48.160 --> 00:07:53.920
A lot of parents don't know that you can actually period make periods with your food.
00:07:54.000 --> 00:08:09.360
And so you're able to eat for 30 minutes, drink for 30 minutes, anything that's not still water, and then uh take a pause for two hours, and that reduces the acid in your mouth so that your kids don't have uh a lot of um high acid environment for a long time.
00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:13.439
So a lot of kids are growing and their brains are growing, so they're hungry all the time.
00:08:13.600 --> 00:08:19.839
I was a parent, uh my my boys are older now, but when they were younger, I felt like I needed two refrigerators, one for each of them.
00:08:20.079 --> 00:08:24.879
And so that was like you're not there quite yet, but the teenage years are really crazy for the food.
00:08:25.199 --> 00:08:27.600
So just make sure that they're eating in these little nodes.
00:08:27.680 --> 00:08:34.799
So 30 minutes of food and drink, anything that's not still water is super important, and that'll help them not um get cavities as much.
00:08:34.960 --> 00:08:37.519
So a really nice reduction in acid.
00:08:37.679 --> 00:08:37.840
Yeah.
00:08:38.000 --> 00:08:39.679
You know what interesting I noticed?
00:08:40.000 --> 00:08:48.799
You work uh at the I would say special circumstances, like specialize in seeing kids that need a lot of care.
00:08:49.279 --> 00:09:00.559
Then you come into our practice, which is a wellness practice that focuses into biological dentistry and cosmetic dentistry, non-invasive, non-invasive.
00:09:00.879 --> 00:09:04.639
And I noticed that you actually treating every patient the same.
00:09:04.720 --> 00:09:15.279
You look at everything, you're looking at their how they were born, looking at their posture, talking to the parents, talking about nutrition, airway, you know, mouth breathing versus nasal breathing.
00:09:15.519 --> 00:09:20.000
It's not necessary that you have to go to a wellness dentist to get that.
00:09:20.240 --> 00:09:25.679
Every dentist can really get that training and start implementing that in their practice.
00:09:25.840 --> 00:09:27.919
And I'm talking to pediatric dentists here.
00:09:29.200 --> 00:09:37.279
You I've seen a lot of pediatric dentists reach out to you and ask you about how do you practice wellness dentistry on children?
00:09:37.519 --> 00:09:42.399
And so, what message do you have for pediatric dentists or any dentists out there say, oh, you know what?
00:09:42.559 --> 00:09:52.399
I don't have patients that are looking for wellness and biological dentistry in my practice, but in fact, they can practicing it uh and provide that wellness to their patient.
00:09:52.720 --> 00:10:05.360
I think a lot of pediatric dentists are um kind of, I won't say brainwashed, but conditioned to uh have a high volume practice that focuses on the number of patients that they see per hour.
00:10:05.600 --> 00:10:11.200
Typically it's big, large bays of um seven or eight chairs, and then you have some operative units.
00:10:11.279 --> 00:10:15.679
Um, we had five at the uh office in South Dakota just for the volume.
00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:22.559
And I think it for if you slow down just a little bit, uh you can do an airway screening for patients is so meaningful.
00:10:22.799 --> 00:10:30.720
They are now uh research is showing that the airway, when kids aren't getting enough oxygen while they sleep, they're actually having behavior issues.
00:10:30.879 --> 00:10:55.759
So the tendency to not collaborate with the uh orthodontists for airway development and also the tendency to collaborate, not to collaborate with the pediatric uh physicians and functional medicine people, I think that's a big um area of opportunity for our colleagues in pediatric dentistry where they can actually um reach out and refer the patients to ENT when appropriate and screen for the airway issues.
00:10:55.840 --> 00:11:02.559
I mean, ADHD medications are life-changing for the patient when maybe they just needed to have some more oxygen while they're sleeping.
00:11:02.879 --> 00:11:03.120
Yeah.
00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:09.919
And you know, I'm a wellness dentist and I have two children, and I want my kid to see Dr.
00:11:10.000 --> 00:11:10.320
Jones.
00:11:10.399 --> 00:11:17.600
You know, that you're not supposed to see your family because uh as I'm seeing my kid in the chair, I'm a mom, not the wellness dentist.
00:11:17.759 --> 00:11:27.039
So I can tell you that if you have not looked into wellness dentistry for your children, you need to because my board up my kids see a functional pediatrician.
00:11:27.600 --> 00:11:29.360
And the exam is so thorough.
00:11:29.600 --> 00:11:34.960
This reminds me of the exam that we're doing at the office for our patients, especially for our young patients.
00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:40.159
And they don't wait until the kids are sick, they do blood work every year.
00:11:40.320 --> 00:11:46.559
So both of my children, yes, my husband thinks it's very brutal to get blood work on children, but now he's on board.
00:11:46.639 --> 00:11:48.559
At the beginning, it's like, oh, you're gonna stick them.
00:11:48.720 --> 00:11:57.679
And I said, Yes, because we cannot look at the child and say, Oh, I think you have enough vitamin D, I think you have enough protein, and I think you have enough good fat, omega-3.
00:11:58.080 --> 00:11:59.519
We gotta have blood tests.
00:11:59.759 --> 00:12:05.840
And as long as you give them a treat after, right, a clean, healthy treat, right, they will forget about it.
00:12:06.000 --> 00:12:09.519
And in fact, I had a video to show you that Apple didn't even cry.
00:12:09.679 --> 00:12:10.159
It was amazing.
00:12:10.559 --> 00:12:12.000
Yes, so she's so brave.
00:12:12.240 --> 00:12:25.440
So just like how we think about functional pediatrician, that doing blood tests annually, once a year, on a specific panel for children, to know, oh, this child needs to have supplement now because our food these days doesn't have enough nutrients.
00:12:25.759 --> 00:12:26.240
Absolutely.
00:12:26.639 --> 00:12:36.320
So I love that uh we focus on prevention uh and focusing on really optimizing for the child to grow at the full potential.
00:12:36.720 --> 00:12:42.159
We know that we need to really think about the child potential.
00:12:42.399 --> 00:12:48.720
We be kind uh to the potential because you never know what that be if you cut it or limit it when they were young.
00:12:49.039 --> 00:13:02.320
And so I love that we really helping the children, like changing the trajectory of their life because they sleep better, breathe better, and not have cavity early on, and not having a ton of restoration on permanent teeth.
00:13:02.639 --> 00:13:06.000
So the work that you do today is really, really important.
00:13:06.399 --> 00:13:10.159
But I also know you're amazing, comprehensive, and cosmetic dentist.
00:13:10.240 --> 00:13:11.120
Yes and you know what?
00:13:11.279 --> 00:13:19.679
Those children also need a lot of that work too, because um a lot of children was born with like small lateral or don't have enough space.
00:13:19.919 --> 00:13:25.279
And most orthodontists were trained to just fit everything in, or if it's not, they're removing it.
00:13:25.440 --> 00:13:31.279
What is your thought on removing premolar, you know, taking out wisdom teeth out of that?
00:13:31.519 --> 00:13:31.840
Right.
00:13:32.080 --> 00:13:37.039
So um, you know, my training was in the 90s in the 1900s, I can say that.
00:13:37.200 --> 00:13:40.960
Yeah so um we were definitely taught to uh close the spaces.
00:13:41.120 --> 00:13:48.639
Our orthodontists were um a hundred percent uh make the room, and it was really more for aesthetics and not quite as much for function.
00:13:48.879 --> 00:14:02.879
Now we realize that the airway is so important that having the width of the palate is really, if you look at uh many populations without processed foods, you really see the development of the jaws in the normal, what we call the natural uh expansion.
00:14:03.120 --> 00:14:07.840
The tongue is such a powerful either constrictor or um expander.
00:14:08.159 --> 00:14:12.720
So my thought on extractions are um don't wait too late for that first screening.
00:14:12.799 --> 00:14:14.000
I would say that for our patients.
00:14:14.559 --> 00:14:26.480
Yes, when they start start having, first of all, when they're babies, um, as soon as you see that first tooth, and sometimes even before, if they have a tongue tie or a cheek tie or lip tie, they definitely need to be seeing a pediatric dentist.
00:14:26.559 --> 00:14:29.039
Uh wellness dentists is what we definitely recommend.
00:14:29.200 --> 00:14:31.200
We have lasers that can help with tongue ties.
00:14:31.360 --> 00:14:38.399
And then um for the airway, I feel like uh extracting teeth is just not great unless it's absolutely necessary.
00:14:38.960 --> 00:14:44.879
We have with um the wisdom teeth, the third molars really they're connected to energy meridians.
00:14:45.039 --> 00:14:47.360
That's right, and heart and yes and large intestine.
00:14:47.600 --> 00:14:47.919
That's right.
00:14:48.080 --> 00:14:53.200
And so obviously um just removing them blanketly is not appropriate.
00:14:53.360 --> 00:14:58.960
Um we don't not faulting the people that taught us, but you when we know better, we do better.
00:14:59.039 --> 00:15:01.759
Oh, and I think that's just definitely something a take-home message.
00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:03.360
Yeah, when you know better, you do better.
00:15:03.519 --> 00:15:11.600
I know in the last 10 or 20 years, the airway community was doing everything to expand and keep all the premolars.
00:15:11.759 --> 00:15:25.519
So we were saving premolars in the population, and we were quite successful because orthodontists on board, pediatric dentists on board, every single one, including ENT and um the dental community, are like, yes, keep the premolars, right?
00:15:25.679 --> 00:15:28.080
However, people don't talk about keeping the wisdom teeth.
00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:37.519
I'm so glad you brought it up because it's connected to the energy of change in the meridian, and then it's also the only teeth responsible for our heart connection.
00:15:37.679 --> 00:15:37.919
Right.
00:15:38.159 --> 00:15:41.200
And I said, Wow, how do we just take that out on everybody?
00:15:41.360 --> 00:15:52.320
So the challenge for the dental community in the next decade, or hopefully sooner than that, we're gonna have a mission of helping every child in America to have the wisdom teeth coming in.
00:15:52.480 --> 00:15:53.919
Yes, I know you're reasoning.
00:15:54.000 --> 00:15:55.279
What if they're not taking care of it?
00:15:55.360 --> 00:15:57.039
Well, educate them, right?
00:15:57.200 --> 00:15:58.639
I have all my wisdom teeth.
00:15:58.799 --> 00:16:01.440
I don't have caveates on them, I brush them every day.
00:16:01.679 --> 00:16:07.519
I think it's such a um it's such a misconception that, oh, you're 17, you should have your wisdom teeth out.
00:16:07.679 --> 00:16:13.360
I can't tell you the number of people um just in general that I know who just oh, it's time.
00:16:13.519 --> 00:16:15.840
And that doesn't make any sense when you think about it.
00:16:15.919 --> 00:16:18.000
Yeah, um, there's no real real reason.
00:16:18.080 --> 00:16:28.159
And because of the covered socket residuum that happens when the wisdom teeth it's known as cavitations, that is um, you know, I had all four of mine taken out when I was in college.
00:16:28.320 --> 00:16:38.159
Now mine were painful, so I yes, and so I actually have um a cavitation, see a covered socket residuum, and it's where the bone doesn't heal.
00:16:38.240 --> 00:16:45.759
And so you can have um, it's kind of gonna sound a little crazy, dead bone in your lower jaw or upper jaw that needs to be addressed.
00:16:45.919 --> 00:16:47.519
People think, oh, it's not hurting.
00:16:47.679 --> 00:16:50.639
Well, just because it isn't hurting doesn't mean it's not important.
00:16:50.960 --> 00:16:54.480
Um, we do that EAV testing, which is that electroacupressure.
00:16:54.639 --> 00:17:03.039
Yeah, um, and it's an amazing way to uh just test is the energy flowing through your body in the right way.
00:17:03.200 --> 00:17:05.119
Um everything downstream makes a difference.
00:17:05.279 --> 00:17:10.079
So yeah, I'm excited to know only had one cavitation instead of all four.
00:17:10.160 --> 00:17:14.559
Um, but it's definitely something that because it's connected to our heart, um, that's important.
00:17:14.640 --> 00:17:15.839
We got to have our heart to live.
00:17:16.079 --> 00:17:16.319
Yeah.
00:17:16.400 --> 00:17:23.039
And I'm so glad you bring that up because a lot of patients come to us and say, I have a 3D CPCT done.
00:17:23.279 --> 00:17:28.160
And I was told by a dentist, um, should be a radiologist, by the way.
00:17:28.240 --> 00:17:28.400
Yes.
00:17:28.559 --> 00:17:32.079
But a lot of dentists look at that and say, Oh, yeah, you have four cavitation.
00:17:32.319 --> 00:17:39.920
And then they they brought that report to us, and we're like, no, we're gonna send it to our radiologists who train to look for this or to screen for this.
00:17:40.000 --> 00:17:41.119
Would I say screening?
00:17:41.279 --> 00:17:43.839
Because there's a difference between diagnosis and screening.
00:17:44.000 --> 00:17:50.319
Our radiologists would look at the scan and say, you know, there's something not healing properly here, and we need to explore.
00:17:50.480 --> 00:17:56.720
And that's when we do another test to minimize the extra surgery if the patient don't need.
00:17:57.119 --> 00:18:01.200
And that's when the uh EAV meridian assessment came in.
00:18:01.359 --> 00:18:06.079
And like you, when we look at the CBCT, we thought you have more than one.
00:18:06.240 --> 00:18:06.480
Right.
00:18:06.640 --> 00:18:08.960
We thought you have more than one, and it turned out you had one.
00:18:09.119 --> 00:18:11.599
So, and you know, I'm gonna challenge Dr.
00:18:11.839 --> 00:18:12.720
uh Dr.
00:18:12.880 --> 00:18:15.680
Jones here in the public on live here.
00:18:15.920 --> 00:18:22.400
But I know I was just gonna say it's not a challenge, it's just a request that once you get your cavitation surgery.
00:18:22.480 --> 00:18:26.640
Uh, we call the official name though, I want you to listen to this closely.
00:18:26.880 --> 00:18:30.559
The official name of that procedure is open bone biopsy.
00:18:31.039 --> 00:18:32.000
Why biopsy?
00:18:32.160 --> 00:18:33.200
Because we don't know what's in it.
00:18:33.279 --> 00:18:37.680
We don't know if you have parasite or um bacteria and what's bacteria.
00:18:37.839 --> 00:18:42.880
So biopsy means we send it out to testing, two tests, not one.
00:18:43.039 --> 00:18:47.200
One is pathology test, and the other is histology tests.
00:18:47.279 --> 00:18:47.359
Right.
00:18:47.599 --> 00:18:49.440
Both of them are medical pathologies.
00:18:49.680 --> 00:18:52.240
One is in West Virginia and one is in Colorado.
00:18:52.400 --> 00:18:59.359
And they independent and they also send the report back to us, to the patients, and we send that to your medical doctor.
00:18:59.519 --> 00:19:02.000
So it's not something that, oh, I never heard of.
00:19:02.079 --> 00:19:03.279
This must be not true.
00:19:03.440 --> 00:19:09.680
Well, we've done thousands and thousands of desurgery, and every day I remember your reaction when you first saw it for the first time.
00:19:09.839 --> 00:19:10.960
It's unbelievable.
00:19:11.119 --> 00:19:13.759
There's just um, it's like oil and water.
00:19:13.920 --> 00:19:14.960
I was so surprised.
00:19:15.039 --> 00:19:16.799
Now I've been practicing 31 years.
00:19:16.960 --> 00:19:19.759
I've been in dentistry since 1983.
00:19:19.920 --> 00:19:24.079
Um, and that is, you know, as a dental assistant, I'll go ahead and say that, not as a dentist.
00:19:24.240 --> 00:19:35.279
Um, but I was licensed in '95, and um, I've never seen anything as shocking as what is coming out of the cavitations, uh, the that covered socket residuum.
00:19:35.440 --> 00:19:42.000
The types of cells that are coming out of there that you can see in the blood flow is just um, it's like a trash can of stuff.
00:19:42.559 --> 00:19:51.200
It's like the body releasing all this toxin that had been been stored for so many years in the upstream that people have no symptom whatsoever.
00:19:51.440 --> 00:19:53.759
And so I go back to my request.
00:19:53.920 --> 00:19:55.279
We want to document your journey.
00:19:55.440 --> 00:19:56.480
Oh, yes, absolutely.
00:19:56.720 --> 00:19:59.920
And really share it publicly so people can follow your journey.
00:20:00.079 --> 00:20:08.480
That would be not only what is the Bob and bone biopsy and you know, people know in cavitation surgery, but what also the impact on your health?
00:20:08.640 --> 00:20:16.559
Because a lot of people thinking it's just a part of getting old, and you're like, I have audio symptom, I have artist issue, but no, it's a part of that whole big picture.
00:20:16.640 --> 00:20:18.799
So I can't wait for people to follow you.
00:20:19.279 --> 00:20:20.880
You're more than welcome to follow my health journey.
00:20:21.200 --> 00:20:28.240
Why don't you drop your um social handle here so people can follow and of course I will put everything in a show note for you, so don't worry.
00:20:28.400 --> 00:20:31.839
If you listen in the car, if you are on a treadmill, that's okay.
00:20:31.920 --> 00:20:34.480
Yeah, but what is your social handle that people can follow your journey?
00:20:34.799 --> 00:20:36.880
So on Instagram is where this journey will be.
00:20:36.960 --> 00:20:37.920
It's gonna be at Dr.
00:20:38.000 --> 00:20:41.359
Caroline Jones, C-A-R-O-L-I-N-E.
00:20:41.759 --> 00:20:42.880
Yes, yes, and Dr.
00:20:43.039 --> 00:20:47.119
Jones also doing a lot of content for our Katie Toe Center, so make sure you follow us.
00:20:47.279 --> 00:20:48.480
Yeah, thank you for the follow.
00:20:48.720 --> 00:20:53.359
Yes, and so I know um we want to keep you here, so much information.
00:20:53.519 --> 00:20:53.920
I love this.
00:20:54.400 --> 00:20:54.960
Thank you for having me.
00:20:55.119 --> 00:20:57.440
And you now the master of this surgery, by the way.
00:20:57.599 --> 00:20:58.880
Yes, it's amazing.
00:20:59.200 --> 00:21:01.599
Yes, because you do and we've been doing so much.
00:21:01.759 --> 00:21:04.160
We're doing this in the office every week.
00:21:04.400 --> 00:21:10.000
And to me, it's one of my favorite surgeries because I see the impact starting in the chair.
00:21:10.240 --> 00:21:10.880
It's amazing.
00:21:10.960 --> 00:21:17.039
I remember our patient who was um in for he was a cancer survivor or is a cancer survivor.
00:21:17.279 --> 00:21:31.200
And um, when I met him back in October when I was visiting the office uh and then saw him as a as my patient now, um, it's incredible the difference in his complexion after his um what I what you call the put-out fires.
00:21:31.440 --> 00:21:35.839
Um yeah, to to address those infections in the bone just looks so much different.
00:21:36.160 --> 00:21:37.839
We call the chronic silence infection.
00:21:38.000 --> 00:21:39.200
Yes, because you don't feel it.
00:21:39.359 --> 00:21:39.680
That's right.
00:21:39.839 --> 00:21:41.839
And nobody sees it unless they know what to look for.
00:21:42.079 --> 00:21:42.400
That's right.
00:21:42.559 --> 00:21:42.960
Yeah.
00:21:43.200 --> 00:21:44.559
Thank you so much for the screening.
00:21:44.799 --> 00:21:46.079
Yeah, I was pretty surprised.
00:21:46.160 --> 00:21:48.240
I was like, oh, I'm I have a healthy dentition.
00:21:48.480 --> 00:21:48.720
Yes.
00:21:48.880 --> 00:21:52.160
And uh wow, it was really interesting to know and learn.
00:21:52.240 --> 00:21:54.559
And I'm super happy to share that journey with everybody.
00:21:54.799 --> 00:22:03.359
And as a provider, I can guarantee you all of us are going through this journey on our own too, at our own pace, at our own history.
00:22:03.519 --> 00:22:08.319
But we're going through it as a patient, and because of that, we know exactly what our patient is going through.
00:22:08.480 --> 00:22:11.119
And we're all going through this because we want to be healthier.
00:22:11.279 --> 00:22:11.440
Right.
00:22:11.519 --> 00:22:11.759
Yeah.
00:22:11.839 --> 00:22:12.079
Yeah.
00:22:12.319 --> 00:22:14.559
That's gonna affect the terminal decade of our lives.
00:22:14.799 --> 00:22:15.119
That's right.
00:22:17.039 --> 00:22:18.400
So I'm going for 120.
00:22:18.640 --> 00:22:18.960
So yeah.
00:22:19.359 --> 00:22:21.920
You know, they talk about 180 at the biohacking conference.
00:22:22.079 --> 00:22:23.519
I don't, I don't doubt that at all.
00:22:24.000 --> 00:22:24.720
So yes, okay.
00:22:24.960 --> 00:22:25.920
And then for longer, yes.
00:22:26.079 --> 00:22:26.480
Yes.
00:22:26.720 --> 00:22:37.119
And one last question before the show's done is every guest on the show, I'm asking about what is the three wellness practices that you do daily that's considered non-negotiable for you.
00:22:37.359 --> 00:22:42.720
So definitely the non-negotiable for me is to get outside in the morning and get your vitamin D.
00:22:42.880 --> 00:22:47.119
Um, 10 minutes after you wake up, if at all possible, get yourself outside.
00:22:47.279 --> 00:22:54.240
Uh, no sunglasses, soak up the sun, the rising sun gives you uh melatonin production, believe it or not.
00:22:54.319 --> 00:22:56.319
Um, and that helps you sleep at night.
00:22:56.400 --> 00:22:58.559
And so middle of the day getting outside.
00:22:58.640 --> 00:23:00.640
So the vitamin D is super, super important.
00:23:00.960 --> 00:23:03.039
Um, I definitely watch what I eat.
00:23:03.200 --> 00:23:08.319
And in that way, my blood sugar, this is the most important thing that I've learned in my health journey.
00:23:08.559 --> 00:23:10.640
Oh my gosh, that's uh sort of my focus now.
00:23:10.880 --> 00:23:14.880
So I wear a continuous glucose monitor that's paired with my phone.
00:23:15.039 --> 00:23:23.119
So uh what I learned was the pattern of eating makes a huge difference in it's it's it is what you eat, but it's also what you eat first.
00:23:23.359 --> 00:23:29.279
So a healthy fat, protein, and then eat your other things that might be on the plate that might not be so friendly.
00:23:29.359 --> 00:23:36.079
Uh, and then water and hydration that is uh key to keeping every single part of your body working the right way.
00:23:36.240 --> 00:23:36.559
Yeah.
00:23:36.720 --> 00:23:45.920
I love this section, and I know a lot of our listeners love this section because not once that we have a guest um saying the same three things.
00:23:46.319 --> 00:23:52.000
And it's always a good reminder for people because all the things that you were just talking about is things that we know already.
00:23:52.160 --> 00:24:09.119
It's just we have not done it consistently, and that's the reason why we didn't have the health that we were looking for, because we keep chasing or we keep forgetting that hey, we need to drink water, we need to get our steps in, we need to get our sleep down, and uh of course the glucose monitoring.
00:24:09.200 --> 00:24:10.640
So I love stuff.
00:24:10.799 --> 00:24:14.240
Yes, I'm a big fan of continuous glucose monitoring.
00:24:14.319 --> 00:24:25.519
I've been doing it for over three years, and just like you said, it's not just what you eat, your stress level, your movement, your sleep are affecting your glucose uh level throughout the day.
00:24:25.680 --> 00:24:26.640
So it's a great reminder.
00:24:27.039 --> 00:24:27.519
Thank you, Dr.
00:24:27.680 --> 00:24:27.920
J.
00:24:28.160 --> 00:24:29.119
Thank you so much for having me.
00:24:29.440 --> 00:24:30.799
Yes, we need to do this again.
00:24:30.880 --> 00:24:31.839
Yes, absolutely.
00:24:32.079 --> 00:24:33.440
We work together every day.
00:24:33.759 --> 00:24:34.319
And you know what?
00:24:34.400 --> 00:24:40.720
It's always nice to sit down and talk to each other and really share the journey with our patients and our listeners.
00:24:40.960 --> 00:24:42.480
So thank you again for being here today.
00:24:42.880 --> 00:24:43.440
I'm so happy.
00:24:43.759 --> 00:24:44.799
