00:00:01.517 --> 00:00:06.357
Welcome back, my valued listeners, to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:06.857 --> 00:00:12.537
I'm your host, Marlene Greenleaf, and I am thrilled to kick off Season 3 with
00:00:12.537 --> 00:00:14.537
all of you. So, Happy New Year!
00:00:17.257 --> 00:00:24.077
As I sit here looking out at the snow falling gently, I'm reminded on how the new year feels.
00:00:24.277 --> 00:00:27.037
Clean, fresh, full of potential.
00:00:27.437 --> 00:00:34.457
Just like a pristine blanket of snow. But let's be real, snow can also be slippery,
00:00:34.457 --> 00:00:38.377
and if we're not careful, it's easy to lose our footing.
00:00:39.097 --> 00:00:43.457
And isn't that exactly what happens with New Year's resolutions?
00:00:46.277 --> 00:00:51.677
Today we're diving into where we are with those resolutions. Are we crushing them?
00:00:52.097 --> 00:00:56.997
Have we fallen off the wagon already? Or are we questioning whether we should
00:00:56.997 --> 00:00:58.737
have made them in the first place?
00:00:59.937 --> 00:01:05.777
We'll explore how to stay on task, when to pivot, and whether we should ditch
00:01:05.777 --> 00:01:10.457
resolutions altogether in favor of small, actionable goals.
00:01:11.457 --> 00:01:12.377
So let's get into it.
00:01:14.557 --> 00:01:19.737
So here we are, a few days into January, and let me ask you something.
00:01:21.360 --> 00:01:29.520
Music.
00:01:29.368 --> 00:01:35.608
Working on them? Maybe you've been consistent, and if so, I want to applaud
00:01:35.608 --> 00:01:37.928
you. That's no small feat.
00:01:38.508 --> 00:01:43.588
But if you've already fallen off track, I want you to know that you're not alone.
00:01:44.208 --> 00:01:48.968
Studies show that most resolutions are abandoned by mid-January.
00:01:50.148 --> 00:01:57.908
Why is that? Well, for starters, resolutions all often come with this pressure
00:01:57.908 --> 00:02:00.508
to completely reinvent ourselves overnight.
00:02:00.908 --> 00:02:06.648
I mean, we go big and say, look, I'll lose 50 pounds or I'll save $10,000.
00:02:07.328 --> 00:02:13.988
And while ambition is great, those big goals can feel overwhelming without a solid plan.
00:02:15.008 --> 00:02:16.768
Let me share a quick story.
00:02:18.048 --> 00:02:23.308
A few years ago, I resolved to wake up at 5 a.m. every day to work out.
00:02:23.788 --> 00:02:27.848
And for two weeks, I crushed it. But then life happened.
00:02:28.208 --> 00:02:35.088
I got busy, I got tired, and before I knew it, I was hitting that snooze button over and over again.
00:02:35.628 --> 00:02:40.448
But instead of beating myself up, I decided to focus on smaller changes.
00:02:40.448 --> 00:02:46.808
I started by waking up just 15 minutes earlier than usual and doing a quick stretch.
00:02:47.028 --> 00:02:51.048
And that small shift made a big difference.
00:02:51.568 --> 00:02:57.508
Because now, this is not a resolution. This is part of my daily regime.
00:02:58.228 --> 00:03:04.068
I wake up and I go for a jog for a minimum of three miles.
00:03:04.508 --> 00:03:10.248
And I do this consistently. But with weather like this, because it's snowing
00:03:10.248 --> 00:03:14.388
today, obviously, I'm not doing it, so I'm doing it, but I do it indoors.
00:03:16.468 --> 00:03:23.748
So this brings me to my next point. Are resolutions really the best way to create lasting change?
00:03:26.068 --> 00:03:26.968
Maybe not.
00:03:28.648 --> 00:03:34.508
Instead of resolutions, why don't you reconsider setting small, actionable goals?
00:03:34.788 --> 00:03:41.128
For example, if your resolution was to eat healthier, break it down into manageable steps.
00:03:41.668 --> 00:03:48.188
Start with one healthy meal a day, or add more veggies to your plate,
00:03:48.528 --> 00:03:52.368
or swap soda for water once a day.
00:03:52.668 --> 00:03:57.888
And these small, consistent actions lead to sustainable change.
00:03:58.848 --> 00:04:00.268
Here's another idea.
00:04:01.288 --> 00:04:07.448
Choose a theme for your year. This could be a word or phrase that guides your decisions.
00:04:07.788 --> 00:04:12.708
Last year, my theme was peace. And every time I faced a choice,
00:04:12.908 --> 00:04:15.068
I asked myself, will this bring me peace?
00:04:16.068 --> 00:04:21.708
This year, my theme is empowerment and resilience.
00:04:22.408 --> 00:04:27.768
And think about what theme resonates with you and let it guide you.
00:04:29.988 --> 00:04:33.288
Now let's talk about staying the course if you're
00:04:33.288 --> 00:04:37.068
on track with your goals that's amazing but
00:04:37.068 --> 00:04:40.008
for those of us who stumble let's regroup and
00:04:40.008 --> 00:04:43.728
refocus here are a few tips to
00:04:43.728 --> 00:04:46.408
help you stay on task let's start with
00:04:46.408 --> 00:04:49.488
habit stacking i want you to attach your
00:04:49.488 --> 00:04:52.728
new habit to an existing one for example
00:04:52.728 --> 00:04:56.108
if you're trying to journal daily do it
00:04:56.108 --> 00:05:00.328
right after brushing your teeth set a
00:05:00.328 --> 00:05:05.208
goal where we have it stacking that's that's what it does so you have to attach
00:05:05.208 --> 00:05:12.528
it to a new to an existing habit so that you can stay consistent next is find
00:05:12.528 --> 00:05:16.908
an accountability partner share your goals with someone who will encourage you
00:05:16.908 --> 00:05:18.628
and will check in regularly.
00:05:19.888 --> 00:05:29.728
Accountability partners will help you and they will encourage you and they can check in regularly.
00:05:30.288 --> 00:05:33.248
And you can do the same for that person also.
00:05:35.508 --> 00:05:41.868
And finally, I want you to celebrate your small wins. Every step forward is progress.
00:05:42.328 --> 00:05:46.968
Every step forward is progress, no matter how small it is.
00:05:47.388 --> 00:05:51.908
So treat yourself for reaching milestones, no matter how small they are.
00:05:52.228 --> 00:05:55.708
You deserve it. So celebrate your small wins.
00:05:56.468 --> 00:06:00.848
And most importantly, give yourself grace. Because life happens.
00:06:01.508 --> 00:06:05.168
Progress is more important than perfection.
00:06:06.288 --> 00:06:09.548
So before we wrap up today, let's come back to the snow.
00:06:09.828 --> 00:06:13.228
It is so beautiful outside. I wish you could see it.
00:06:13.328 --> 00:06:20.188
If you're in the Maryland DMV area, we were just pelted with some snow today. But it's so beautiful.
00:06:21.528 --> 00:06:27.248
And even with that, we know it piles up and we have to decide what to do with it.
00:06:27.748 --> 00:06:31.368
Will we build a snowman, shovel a path, or let it melt?
00:06:32.128 --> 00:06:38.828
And similarly, the goals we set this year are only as impactful as the actions we take.
00:06:39.148 --> 00:06:41.048
So here's my challenge for you.
00:06:41.588 --> 00:06:48.868
I want you to think about one small actionable step you can take today towards your goal.
00:06:49.348 --> 00:06:54.268
Share it with me on social media using the hashtag LivingInYourPower2025.
00:06:54.528 --> 00:06:56.928
And I'd love to cheer you on.
00:06:58.548 --> 00:07:06.468
Again the hashtag is living in your power 2025 share that one small actionable
00:07:06.468 --> 00:07:11.448
step you're taking today towards your goal and i would be happy to cheer you on,
00:07:12.748 --> 00:07:16.528
now before i let you go i want to share some exciting updates.
