00:00:01.439 --> 00:00:08.240
Most people spend their entire life stress without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want and what's important.
00:00:15.119 --> 00:00:17.679
I used to live the way the coffee job that I hate it.
00:00:18.160 --> 00:00:19.519
I broke through the software.
00:00:22.079 --> 00:00:24.079
As a result, I am my own coffee company.
00:00:24.239 --> 00:00:25.440
I'm just supposed to come in.
00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:28.559
And I get this kind of YouTube.
00:00:31.199 --> 00:00:34.960
It starts within clear it starts within this.
00:00:36.320 --> 00:00:39.920
I'm your host, Donnie Rouse, and will come to the podcast.
00:00:40.399 --> 00:00:41.439
One line.
00:00:51.679 --> 00:00:52.719
What's going on everybody?
00:00:52.880 --> 00:00:58.560
Donnie Rouse here, and I hope you are having an amazing start to your day.
00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:16.159
Um, so this episode uh was one on my morning walk, and as I was walking, listening to some audio to shift my shift and shape my mindset for the day, I thought of what I wanted to share here today.
00:01:16.400 --> 00:01:23.040
And what I wanted to share was four ideas on how to get more enjoyment out of life.
00:01:23.840 --> 00:01:27.040
And so I'll just go right into it.
00:01:27.200 --> 00:01:40.319
And this is reflecting on it, when I think of the the parts of my life where I was like the most happy, as well as where I felt like I was moving forward, these things were present.
00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:42.400
So let's start with number one.
00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:48.719
So the number one is, and this should come as no surprise, is passionate pursuits.
00:01:48.959 --> 00:01:50.640
Let me ask you a question.
00:01:50.879 --> 00:01:53.439
What are you doing that you are really passionate about?
00:01:53.599 --> 00:01:59.680
Like, how are you infusing passion, not just into your day, but into your weeks, your months, your years, and your life?
00:02:00.719 --> 00:02:11.759
When we're pursuing things we're passionate about, we're more engaged, we have a wider sense of emotions, we feel more happy because we're doing things that we love.
00:02:12.719 --> 00:02:18.159
One of the um the quotes from Steve Jobs that always stuck out in my mind, he said, pursue your passion.
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:28.080
Because I'd I in my career people would say, you know, don't pursue your passion, because by pursuing your passion, you know, you're gonna make it feel like work and you're gonna hate it.
00:02:28.560 --> 00:02:36.960
And when I remember hearing this uh this quote from Steve Jobs, something that really stuck with me that he said is like, pursue your passion.
00:02:37.599 --> 00:02:47.360
When you're passionate about something, that when it gets tough, when it gets hard, and you know it will, you will stick through it because you have the passion.
00:02:47.680 --> 00:02:51.680
Because you will stick with it when other people are giving up.
00:02:52.960 --> 00:03:00.800
And to think about it, to kind of reflect on it on my own life, coffee has been my passion for me for my entire life.
00:03:02.639 --> 00:03:10.319
I chose to make that uh make that swit transition over to coffee from my corporate job uh early on in my career.
00:03:10.479 --> 00:03:11.759
And thankfully I did that.
00:03:11.840 --> 00:03:14.400
And it's not to say that it was easy.
00:03:14.479 --> 00:03:28.879
I mean, I love coffee, but this has been uh the journey that I'm currently on has been one of the hardest journeys that I've ever experienced because it's forcing me, like if you have your own business, it's like a child, and it forces you to grow.
00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:41.680
Not only that, is there's been so many times, even just in learning coffee itself, where I've been so perplexed because maybe a shot of espresso wasn't coming out the way I wanted.
00:03:42.000 --> 00:03:45.520
And it through or a or a roast of coffee.
00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:51.919
And while I was super frustrated, if I hadn't had the passion, I would have given up a long time ago.
00:03:52.319 --> 00:04:01.120
But because I have the passion, because I have this vision for what I want my coffee to be like and how I want to experience it, how I want other people to experience it.
00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:02.800
It keeps me going.
00:04:02.879 --> 00:04:12.560
And all of a sudden I start to make new distinctions because when I'm looking at uh what is a perceived so-called problem, now all of a sudden I'm getting new distinctions.
00:04:12.639 --> 00:04:16.879
I'm learning, and now it enhances my knowledge and my expertise.
00:04:17.120 --> 00:04:21.279
But all that I wouldn't be able to do that without passion.
00:04:22.720 --> 00:04:31.519
And so I challenge you for idea number one is to just engage in something that you're passionate about.
00:04:31.920 --> 00:04:37.519
I'm not saying that you have to, you know, you quit your job and and just pursue your passion.
00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:40.480
Although if you want to do that, I highly encourage it.
00:04:40.560 --> 00:04:42.160
I give you my endorsement.
00:04:42.560 --> 00:04:46.800
But rather just do things for the sake of passion.
00:04:47.040 --> 00:04:57.040
Meaning, if you like gardening, go out in your garden, make it at least a point to do it one time a week to get out into that garden and just start tilling the soil.
00:04:58.079 --> 00:05:01.439
Or maybe you like to cook, but you're you don't really think you're that good at it.
00:05:01.519 --> 00:05:07.519
So therefore, you just kind of you you shy away from it, but you know that it just brings you joy.
00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:17.040
Go cook, go make a new dish because as a result of doing that, it's gonna compound, it's gonna bleed into every other aspect of your life.
00:05:17.759 --> 00:05:20.639
Let's go to point number two, adventure.
00:05:20.800 --> 00:05:31.199
This is one of my favorite, my favorite, favorite, favorite uh ideas around living a life of uh enjoyment because we all want a little bit of adventure, right?
00:05:31.279 --> 00:05:33.680
We all want some novelty in our life.
00:05:34.480 --> 00:05:36.079
Think of the opposite.
00:05:36.240 --> 00:05:44.000
If you don't have any novelty, where things are just going the same thing every single day, you feel like you're gonna go crazy.
00:05:44.319 --> 00:05:46.240
And maybe a lot of you are there.
00:05:47.120 --> 00:05:53.199
I know from my own experience that sometimes I feel that life is just on replay.
00:05:53.519 --> 00:06:00.399
Even when I'm doing, um, you know, when I'm focusing on a project or I'm doing work, I'm just like, oh my God.
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:09.199
I feel I sometimes I feel like I'm going to go insane because it's just the mundaness of the repeating of days of tasks.
00:06:09.439 --> 00:06:17.040
I I feel this sometimes uh in the summer, and I say it sometimes because uh, well, let me go into why I feel in the summer.
00:06:17.120 --> 00:06:21.439
So in the summer, when I'm when I'm running my business, I'm always doing the same thing.
00:06:21.519 --> 00:06:28.800
Like my my my weeks are on repeat, where it's you know, deliveries, production, and it just keeps going, going, going.
00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:31.839
And sometimes I'm like, I cannot wait until I get the break.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:37.600
But the reason why I said sometimes is because there are those moments where I step out.
00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:38.319
Right.
00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:46.319
And and I have to always be very conscious of it because I have the I could fall into the habit of of not stepping out and just keep riding that same train.
00:06:46.399 --> 00:06:48.399
And as a result, I experience the same emotions.
00:06:48.480 --> 00:07:08.959
But when I step out, when I do things that add a little bit of spice to my life, maybe it's an adventure, maybe it's hanging out with a new person, maybe it is taking a side trip, maybe it is going for a hike to a place I've never been, all of a sudden it makes it colors my picture where the thing was black and white.
00:07:09.199 --> 00:07:14.160
Now all of a sudden there's colors, there's some vibrancy to it, and as a result, I'm enjoying that process more.
00:07:14.399 --> 00:07:23.360
So when I think when I tell you about adventure, I mean adventure, um adventure, uh well, it could be something big, right?
00:07:23.519 --> 00:07:26.720
If you want to book that trip, go book that trip.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:30.240
I promise you, it will change your life.
00:07:30.959 --> 00:07:41.439
I actually was went to wanted to say adventure was gonna be my my first point because that's one of my favorite uh for enjoying life, it's one of my favorite tools in my in my tool belt.
00:07:41.839 --> 00:07:44.800
So let's go back to the travel part is book that trip.
00:07:44.879 --> 00:07:47.040
Like, what is it that you're really looking forward to?
00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:52.240
What is it that would add just some spice and aliveness to your life?
00:07:53.439 --> 00:07:55.839
And let's add that into our day.
00:07:56.000 --> 00:08:01.360
Maybe, like I said, maybe it is booking that big trip to somewhere overseas, but maybe it's not, right?
00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:03.199
Maybe that's not your cup of coffee.
00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:10.639
Maybe an adventure for you is just moving to uh or going to a different state.
00:08:10.800 --> 00:08:14.079
Maybe an adventure to you is trying a different restaurant.
00:08:14.399 --> 00:08:20.959
I used to make the the mistake of thinking that everyone was like me in the sense that you know everyone wants to travel, right?
00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:25.839
Everyone wants to travel around the world, visit different countries, go hosteling.
00:08:26.480 --> 00:08:28.319
And uh, but it's not the case.
00:08:28.480 --> 00:08:33.120
I I remember talking to some people, they're like, that sounds like the worst thing ever.
00:08:33.519 --> 00:08:35.200
But for me, I love it.
00:08:35.440 --> 00:08:37.039
So, what is it to you?
00:08:37.440 --> 00:08:44.480
Like, what would an amazing adventure look, feel, or even taste like to you?
00:08:44.879 --> 00:08:58.399
And I encourage you just to go out and just start putting yourself in the unknown because the reason why if you feel like you're in a rut, if you feel like life is mundane and it's just one repeating day after the other, it's because you're not adding any variety.
00:08:58.480 --> 00:09:02.639
You're you're staying in win with what you know and what you're predicting.
00:09:02.720 --> 00:09:05.759
As a result, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy now loop.
00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:10.960
So you gotta step outside of that loop, and as a result, step in outside of it, you're gonna feel more aliveness.
00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:13.200
Yes, it could be scary, right?
00:09:13.360 --> 00:09:16.799
Just by by experiencing something new, there's unknown, right?
00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:24.240
You're like, oh, what if something I promise you very there's very little that's gonna happen that's gonna put you in danger.
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:35.279
Yeah, you look at uh people you may meet, you you may be fearful of being judged or trying something new and being fearful of not doing correctly or failing at it.
00:09:35.840 --> 00:09:37.519
These are all just lies.
00:09:38.240 --> 00:09:50.559
So I encourage you to put some adventure into your life and just get out there and and see how it just shapes your day, your week, and how you feel.
00:09:51.279 --> 00:09:52.879
Let's go to idea number three.
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:55.279
Let's talk about your relationships.
00:09:56.960 --> 00:10:03.519
This one point is probably the most important out of um out of all of them.
00:10:03.679 --> 00:10:05.519
Why I put it number three, I don't know.
00:10:05.679 --> 00:10:10.320
I guess it's kind of I I think I'm going kind of uh not really of importance.
00:10:10.399 --> 00:10:18.559
The the last point is in uh is gonna be very important too, but this one is probably the most important because none of us do it alone, right?
00:10:18.720 --> 00:10:27.360
If if you're alone, what would satisfaction would you get if you were going after all these great things, but there was no one there to experience it with?
00:10:28.080 --> 00:10:30.720
I know from my own perspective, like I wouldn't enjoy it at all.
00:10:30.799 --> 00:10:39.279
One of the reasons why I go out and I travel the world, or even even my my my passion for coffee, like why do I do that?
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:45.039
Yeah, yes, I like having my coffee alone, but why do I do it in the first place?
00:10:46.639 --> 00:10:49.360
I do it because I want to impact other people.
00:10:49.519 --> 00:11:03.360
I travel because I know that on that journey that I meet people and the experiences and the people I meet are so raw that I feel this connection that is deeper than sometimes the relationships that I've had at home for decades.
00:11:04.559 --> 00:11:09.519
And it's because uh there's a part of me that I'm bringing out, I'm allowing out into the world.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:20.399
And so though those people, if I were to take them out of that experience, like my my top experiences are my uh a lot of my trips.
00:11:20.559 --> 00:11:23.279
And it when I look back and reflect on it, well, why was it?
00:11:23.360 --> 00:11:32.399
I could be like, oh, well, yeah, you know, going to the top of Machu Picchu, and oh, it was one of my most memorable trips, going to Peru.
00:11:32.480 --> 00:11:33.360
Man, I loved it.
00:11:33.440 --> 00:11:36.399
But when I think of like what were the real reasons, like why did I enjoy?
00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:42.559
I met some amazing people, especially these two Irish guys who were freaking when they were a hoot, they were they were so awesome.
00:11:42.720 --> 00:11:46.799
Uh Neil and uh I'm trying to remember the other guy's name, but they they were amazing.
00:11:46.879 --> 00:11:54.080
They made they were one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much because they were just so carefree, welcoming, and funny.
00:11:54.879 --> 00:12:00.480
But and then I mean any other trip I can remember, it's always been because of the people I've met, right?
00:12:00.559 --> 00:12:06.960
I've had some great experiences, but if I didn't meet and share those experiences with other people, then it wouldn't have been the same trip.
00:12:07.600 --> 00:12:13.279
So the better your relationships, the happier you're gonna be.
00:12:14.320 --> 00:12:18.000
And uh I'll leave you with one more uh like story about this.
00:12:18.080 --> 00:12:21.440
Uh, my friend Andrea, Andrea, if you're watching this, I'll give you a shout out there.
00:12:21.519 --> 00:12:22.320
How you doing?
00:12:22.559 --> 00:12:32.799
Um he came to visit the United States with his girlfriend, and we went out to a uh a bar in Stanford.
00:12:33.759 --> 00:12:41.600
We were all together, my me, a couple of my siblings, and then him and with uh a few of his friends were all like mutual friends.
00:12:42.480 --> 00:12:46.639
And he was asking, he asked my brother, he's like, Hey, how often do you guys do this?
00:12:46.799 --> 00:12:51.919
We're like, and his his his friend was said, like, I haven't seen Phil, who's my brother.
00:12:52.080 --> 00:12:55.919
He's like, I haven't seen him in in years, I think since his wedding.
00:12:56.320 --> 00:13:01.600
And my friend Andrea looked at his like he was like, that blows my mind.
00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:06.720
He's like, How you're good friends, but yet you haven't seen them in years.
00:13:07.200 --> 00:13:10.320
And he was contrasting that with his life back at home in Italy.
00:13:10.399 --> 00:13:18.320
And one of the things I love about uh my friends in Italy is that they constantly make time to nurture their relationships.
00:13:18.639 --> 00:13:22.159
And he was saying, like, I I see my friends multiple times a week.
00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:28.480
I I couldn't imagine seeing them once a year, like once a week, or even like once every few years.
00:13:30.240 --> 00:13:36.960
And it got me thinking too uh when I was in Italy, I met some of my good friends, like my friend Gianluca.
00:13:38.159 --> 00:13:45.279
And I love the fact that like there was this camaraderie and this like playfulness in the friendships because they always made it a point to get together.
00:13:45.440 --> 00:13:51.360
Even sometimes I would call him and he would just be getting out of the cafe at like I don't even like 12 a.m.
00:13:51.519 --> 00:13:52.240
or something like that.
00:13:52.399 --> 00:13:53.519
And I'm like, hey, what are you doing?
00:13:53.679 --> 00:13:56.240
He's like, Well, I'm gonna go out and meet my friends for a drink.
00:13:56.480 --> 00:13:58.159
I'm like, that's freaking awesome, right?
00:13:58.240 --> 00:14:04.000
Like, normally if I if I'm working all day and I'm like, you know, I'm tired, I'm not doing anything.
00:14:04.159 --> 00:14:12.399
But they made it a point to go out there, and there is a reason why they have such close relationships, is because they invest in the time in those.
00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:22.320
So I I want the the reason why I tell you this is one, just to not downplay how important relationships are in your life, because it's so easy to get caught in the achievement of things.
00:14:22.480 --> 00:14:25.600
And when I say it's so easy, I'm telling you, I'm talking about my own life, right?
00:14:25.679 --> 00:14:29.200
Um, but I think that you're kind of a mirror to me in some regards.
00:14:29.360 --> 00:14:30.720
So you can relate.
00:14:31.120 --> 00:14:42.399
It's so easy to get caught in the striving for goals that you remember that you don't remember the things that really matter most and are are really gonna move the needle, and those are your relationships.
00:14:42.960 --> 00:14:50.480
So get out there, schedule some time with the people you care about most, and just be curious, learn something about them, right?
00:14:50.720 --> 00:14:56.639
See how they're doing, be vulnerable, share the top three, share the bottom three.
00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:00.080
One of the, I'll just give you a little strategy before I go to the last point.
00:15:00.799 --> 00:15:10.240
When I was in this uh this coaching group with one of my coaches, she said, you're not gonna share all of you know, you're not gonna share your most vulnerable points with everybody.
00:15:10.559 --> 00:15:14.960
But the people in this coaching program that I was in, they're like, you know, these are your people.
00:15:15.360 --> 00:15:18.799
You can you can show up here without any judgment.
00:15:19.120 --> 00:15:26.240
So tell you know what's going great in your life as well as the bottom 30% of what's not going great in your life.
00:15:26.559 --> 00:15:35.759
And I remember being on calls and sharing these things with people, and as a result of sharing this, you just felt so much more connected because you felt like you were actually really dealing with people, right?
00:15:35.919 --> 00:15:47.039
When they were sharing, like maybe there was someone was going through a hardship because they're they had aging parents and they were going through all these health things and that they're how they were nervous and fearful and afraid.
00:15:47.120 --> 00:15:51.600
And all of a sudden your heart went out to them and you just felt like they were real people.
00:15:52.399 --> 00:15:58.960
How often do you do that with your the people in your life, your friends, your family, like your close friends and family?
00:15:59.600 --> 00:16:11.279
I'm willing to bet that you're like a lot of the people in your life, even the closest people, they probably don't know a fraction, like a tenth of a percent of what is really going on in your life.
00:16:11.519 --> 00:16:18.399
And it might feel like uh like protection, like, oh, they want to understand, but what you're really doing is you're isolating yourself.
00:16:18.879 --> 00:16:28.720
So uh to finish this point on personal relationships is just to put yourself out there to share, to be vulnerable to the right people, not everybody, to the right people.
00:16:29.120 --> 00:16:39.600
Because they will help lift you up, they will you will feel understood and it will energize your life to keep on going and you'll feel more joy because you feel connected to somebody.
00:16:39.919 --> 00:16:45.039
And the last point, the last point of this is drum roll, please.
00:16:45.679 --> 00:16:46.960
Personal growth, right?
00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:49.360
It is probably not one you expect for number one, right?
00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:50.240
Personal growth.
00:16:50.399 --> 00:16:55.679
Like, how does growing more make me feel more live and more enjoyment?
00:16:55.840 --> 00:16:56.559
It does.
00:16:56.879 --> 00:17:00.320
And I'll I'll give you kind of um, I'll give you a story for it.
00:17:00.559 --> 00:17:13.200
So when I think of the the the moments that I appreciate, some of the moments that I appreciate or I'm most proud of in my life, they are the moments where I stretched myself to grow.
00:17:14.559 --> 00:17:20.960
And some of those moments include uh when I was in college, I nearly failed out of school.
00:17:21.039 --> 00:17:25.359
I was so close to failing out of school, and then I did a complete 180.
00:17:25.440 --> 00:17:31.200
I I got, you know, I was like, oh my God, if I fail out of school, then I'm not gonna be able to get into the business school.
00:17:31.279 --> 00:17:33.519
I'm not gonna be able to have a career in finance.
00:17:33.759 --> 00:17:36.480
Little did I know, never end up in finance, anyways.
00:17:36.720 --> 00:17:41.279
And all of a sudden, did a complete 180, I studied my butt off, right?
00:17:41.359 --> 00:17:50.480
And I pushed myself to grow as a result of feeling of uh of that that push of having a vision that I was moving towards.
00:17:50.880 --> 00:17:54.559
All of a sudden, I I felt a lot better about myself.
00:17:54.720 --> 00:18:00.559
I was inspiring people around me because they saw what was capable, I was a reflection for themselves.
00:18:00.720 --> 00:18:01.680
So I felt good.
00:18:01.839 --> 00:18:13.759
I was growing, and then I ended finishing the business school with a uh GPA of 3.8, 3.83, which is nearly almost like a 4.0 in every single class, an NA in every single class that I took.
00:18:14.000 --> 00:18:21.680
Um, and then also with regard to when I did my weightlifting competition, I mean, there's a I could choose a million different stories.
00:18:21.759 --> 00:18:22.799
These are the top two.
00:18:23.519 --> 00:18:43.519
The amount of discipline and dedication it took to to push through that, as I came out the other end, I mean, I I was so proud of that experience because it it shaped my life and and made me understand like, well, what am I really capable of if I put my mind to it?
00:18:44.480 --> 00:18:53.680
So I'll end the uh the personal growth bullet with this is that when you think of when you feel alive, right?
00:18:53.839 --> 00:18:57.920
The this feeling, like a lot of the emotions that we feel in life are very fleeting.
00:18:58.319 --> 00:19:04.799
You you feel them one minute, all of a sudden you're you know, you go from happy to sad, from scared to excited, right?
00:19:04.880 --> 00:19:07.599
It nothing lasts forever.
00:19:08.960 --> 00:19:18.720
And the the the sooner you can understand that, the more grace you can give yourself to just allow these emotions to flow through, but also to just kind of redirect your past.
00:19:18.799 --> 00:19:20.960
But let me go back to the personal growth.
00:19:22.160 --> 00:19:28.640
I had heard this on the and I'll I'll tell you about this uh this uh podcast I was listening to.
00:19:28.799 --> 00:19:31.680
I think it was Brandon Brashard or Ed Milette.
00:19:32.079 --> 00:19:34.240
And they were talking about I think it was Brandon Braschard.
00:19:34.400 --> 00:19:45.359
He was talking about growth and how how the highest achievers they push towards this area of uncertainty because of the feeling of uh uh the feeling of growth.
00:19:45.599 --> 00:19:49.039
I was like, well, how does that I'm trying to understand like how does that make sense?
00:19:49.119 --> 00:20:00.240
Like, what do they mean that by pushing towards this, like this is and they're like, because you feel alive when you take new steps, when you start to get the momentum, momentum, it makes you feel alive.
00:20:00.960 --> 00:20:13.680
So when you finish, when you're approaching a goal and you're about to achieve that goal, you set a new goal to to move towards this way it keeps that feeling going, like new pursuits, like write a book.
00:20:13.759 --> 00:20:15.279
Like, why write a book, right?
00:20:15.519 --> 00:20:16.960
Whatever your your goals are.
00:20:17.039 --> 00:20:20.000
I mean, you can easily stay where you are and not want to do anything, right?
00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:20.400
Why?
00:20:20.559 --> 00:20:22.480
Hey, well, you know, I'm pretty comfortable right here.
00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:23.920
Like, what start a podcast?
00:20:24.000 --> 00:20:25.279
Why start a podcast, right?
00:20:25.359 --> 00:20:27.680
Um, you know, why why write a book?
00:20:27.839 --> 00:20:31.119
I mean, I don't need to write a book, it seems like a lot of work.
00:20:32.160 --> 00:20:39.200
But the the art, or I should say, the act of growing is what makes you feel alive.
00:20:39.279 --> 00:20:46.319
So, this is I'm I'm giving you growth in the sense of you know, uh going after your goals, but let's talk about personal growth.
00:20:46.559 --> 00:20:49.359
Let's talk about understanding yourself.
00:20:49.920 --> 00:20:51.920
This is, I talk about journeys a lot.
00:20:52.079 --> 00:20:54.640
I talk about, you know, oh, you know, go travel here, go travel there.
00:20:54.720 --> 00:20:56.720
But how about taking the journey inward?
00:20:57.519 --> 00:21:04.880
How about taking the journey to understand who you are, what your desires are, what part of you you're showing out to the world?
00:21:05.200 --> 00:21:11.920
Because sometimes we put masks on and we we we hide our true self, our aspirations in order to fit in.
00:21:12.799 --> 00:21:21.759
But if you're not reflecting on who you are, then you're blind to who you are, then you're blind to life because you're not really even sure.
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:25.759
You haven't acknowledged yet who you are and what your real desires are.
00:21:26.559 --> 00:21:50.880
So personal growth is first and foremost about getting the awareness about yourself and then learning that following your heart, but also skilling yourself to for all of the uh the the skills, the talents, the that you're gonna need in order to progress towards your dreams.
00:21:51.920 --> 00:21:55.359
So I'll let me give you I'll give you those four ideas one more time.
00:21:55.440 --> 00:21:58.720
Uh so the first one I kind of didn't matter what the first one was adventure.
00:21:58.880 --> 00:21:59.839
I said passionate pursuit.
00:22:00.400 --> 00:22:01.759
But for me, it's adventure.
00:22:01.839 --> 00:22:14.960
And they're kind of going of importance of least importance to most importance, but also some of the like the highest highs to um well, maybe not really, but the um so least importance to most important, right?
00:22:15.039 --> 00:22:23.200
So first is adventure, like getting out there, getting a sense of adventure because it will fuel you, it'll give you this feeling of feeling alive.
00:22:23.359 --> 00:22:31.519
And sometimes that that feeling alone, when you're feeling it, spills into all the other areas of your life and allows everything to lift up.
00:22:31.680 --> 00:22:33.920
Secondly, is passionate pursuits.
00:22:34.079 --> 00:22:40.960
Every day, do something that you're passionate about because by doing some, you you allow yourself just to find joy in the small moments.
00:22:41.119 --> 00:22:47.119
You allow yourself to not put off pleasure, but actually to enjoy it while you're on that journey.
00:22:47.359 --> 00:22:49.839
Number three is great relationships.
00:22:50.160 --> 00:22:54.400
Everything you want is going to require someone else's help too.
00:22:54.480 --> 00:23:02.240
But not only that, but when we have great relationships, when we feel understood, our sense of happiness increases.
00:23:02.480 --> 00:23:05.279
So get out there, form some relationships.
00:23:05.519 --> 00:23:12.960
And if you are saying that you don't have any friendships or relate deep relationships, just make some, right?
00:23:13.119 --> 00:23:17.680
You the the the way you grow a relationship is by spending time there.
00:23:17.839 --> 00:23:19.200
And it doesn't have to be about you.
00:23:19.279 --> 00:23:22.400
If you may feel self-conscious, like, oh, I don't know what to say, I don't want to share.
00:23:22.559 --> 00:23:23.839
Ask about them.
00:23:24.400 --> 00:23:33.599
The more you understand about other people, the more inclined that you'll probably you'll be able to relate and you'll be able to they'll end up, you know, say, hey, well, what do you think?
00:23:33.680 --> 00:23:35.279
And you know, then you start sharing your own feelings.
00:23:35.440 --> 00:23:38.240
Get out there, make some friends, deep in those relationships.
00:23:38.400 --> 00:23:40.880
And lastly, growth.
00:23:41.440 --> 00:23:45.039
Do something today that is gonna push your own personal growth.
00:23:45.279 --> 00:23:52.319
Maybe it is just getting a journaling and saying, okay, like, well, let me journal, let me see how am I feeling right now.
00:23:52.559 --> 00:23:58.880
Like, how do I feel about my life and the direction that I'm going and what needs to change?
00:23:59.119 --> 00:24:03.200
Like, this is all awareness, is the first step to growth.
00:24:03.359 --> 00:24:07.519
So you got to get awareness, you gotta understand, like, who are you really?
00:24:07.839 --> 00:24:10.400
What is it that you really want in this life?
00:24:10.720 --> 00:24:22.240
Because life is we we have the this uh habit, or I would say the propensity to think that life is gonna go on forever.
00:24:22.559 --> 00:24:27.440
When the truth is that not a single one of us knows when our time is gonna come.
00:24:28.480 --> 00:24:37.359
And I'll leave this, this could be a whole different topic altogether, but purpose, when you're reminded of your purpose, it's one of the things that pushes you forward.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:40.160
And then also mortality.
00:24:40.559 --> 00:24:55.119
When you realize that every day is a gift, every day is a blessing, it changes how you show up in your day because no longer are you taking it for granted that you're gonna be here another day, but you're realizing that you know what, I'm here now.
00:24:55.440 --> 00:24:58.799
I've got to make good with the time that I have.
00:24:59.279 --> 00:25:05.119
And I want to feel good about how I spend my my time today, if today was all there is.
00:25:06.240 --> 00:25:12.400
I I sometimes I don't really like going, you know, when I I feel like it's I don't think it's morbid.
00:25:12.480 --> 00:25:15.920
Some people, some of my friends might say, like, oh, well, wow, that's kind of deep.
00:25:16.000 --> 00:25:17.359
You're going into you talking about death.
00:25:17.519 --> 00:25:20.400
But yeah, but let's let's let's shine a light on it, right?
00:25:20.480 --> 00:25:22.480
Let's not pretend like it doesn't exist.
00:25:23.599 --> 00:25:40.720
Because by acknowledging that your time here is finite, it helps you to dust off like the dirt that is covering you from your real desires, from how you really want to show up in your day and in your relationships and in life.
00:25:41.759 --> 00:26:00.720
So I hope these help you, or at the very least, it will inspire you to look at your life in a different way, to infuse some, you know, to follow your passions, to have some adventures, to grow those relationships, and to prioritize your own personal growth, because that is the way that you are gonna get the most satisfaction and enjoyment out of life.
00:26:00.960 --> 00:26:02.880
So I hope you enjoyed this episode here.
00:26:02.960 --> 00:26:07.519
If you did, please hit that subscribe button, share it with someone whom you feel could benefit from this.
00:26:07.680 --> 00:26:09.279
And that is all I've got for you guys today.
00:26:09.359 --> 00:26:10.880
Hope you enjoyed this episode here.
00:26:11.200 --> 00:26:17.920
Remember, you only get one life live fully, live passionately, and most of all, live now.
00:26:18.160 --> 00:26:21.279
God bless you guys, and I will see you again soon.
00:00:01.439 --> 00:00:08.240
Most people spend their entire life stress without ever giving a single thought as to what it is they really want and what's important.
00:00:15.119 --> 00:00:17.679
I used to live the way the coffee job that I hate it.
00:00:18.160 --> 00:00:19.519
I broke through the software.
00:00:22.079 --> 00:00:24.079
As a result, I am my own coffee company.
00:00:24.239 --> 00:00:25.440
I'm just supposed to come in.
00:00:26.000 --> 00:00:28.559
And I get this kind of YouTube.
00:00:31.199 --> 00:00:34.960
It starts within clear it starts within this.
00:00:36.320 --> 00:00:39.920
I'm your host, Donnie Rouse, and will come to the podcast.
00:00:40.399 --> 00:00:41.439
One line.
00:00:51.679 --> 00:00:52.719
What's going on everybody?
00:00:52.880 --> 00:00:58.560
Donnie Rouse here, and I hope you are having an amazing start to your day.
00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:16.159
Um, so this episode uh was one on my morning walk, and as I was walking, listening to some audio to shift my shift and shape my mindset for the day, I thought of what I wanted to share here today.
00:01:16.400 --> 00:01:23.040
And what I wanted to share was four ideas on how to get more enjoyment out of life.
00:01:23.840 --> 00:01:27.040
And so I'll just go right into it.
00:01:27.200 --> 00:01:40.319
And this is reflecting on it, when I think of the the parts of my life where I was like the most happy, as well as where I felt like I was moving forward, these things were present.
00:01:40.480 --> 00:01:42.400
So let's start with number one.
00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:48.719
So the number one is, and this should come as no surprise, is passionate pursuits.
00:01:48.959 --> 00:01:50.640
Let me ask you a question.
00:01:50.879 --> 00:01:53.439
What are you doing that you are really passionate about?
00:01:53.599 --> 00:01:59.680
Like, how are you infusing passion, not just into your day, but into your weeks, your months, your years, and your life?
00:02:00.719 --> 00:02:11.759
When we're pursuing things we're passionate about, we're more engaged, we have a wider sense of emotions, we feel more happy because we're doing things that we love.
00:02:12.719 --> 00:02:18.159
One of the um the quotes from Steve Jobs that always stuck out in my mind, he said, pursue your passion.
00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:28.080
Because I'd I in my career people would say, you know, don't pursue your passion, because by pursuing your passion, you know, you're gonna make it feel like work and you're gonna hate it.
00:02:28.560 --> 00:02:36.960
And when I remember hearing this uh this quote from Steve Jobs, something that really stuck with me that he said is like, pursue your passion.
00:02:37.599 --> 00:02:47.360
When you're passionate about something, that when it gets tough, when it gets hard, and you know it will, you will stick through it because you have the passion.
00:02:47.680 --> 00:02:51.680
Because you will stick with it when other people are giving up.
00:02:52.960 --> 00:03:00.800
And to think about it, to kind of reflect on it on my own life, coffee has been my passion for me for my entire life.
00:03:02.639 --> 00:03:10.319
I chose to make that uh make that swit transition over to coffee from my corporate job uh early on in my career.
00:03:10.479 --> 00:03:11.759
And thankfully I did that.
00:03:11.840 --> 00:03:14.400
And it's not to say that it was easy.
00:03:14.479 --> 00:03:28.879
I mean, I love coffee, but this has been uh the journey that I'm currently on has been one of the hardest journeys that I've ever experienced because it's forcing me, like if you have your own business, it's like a child, and it forces you to grow.
00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:41.680
Not only that, is there's been so many times, even just in learning coffee itself, where I've been so perplexed because maybe a shot of espresso wasn't coming out the way I wanted.
00:03:42.000 --> 00:03:45.520
And it through or a or a roast of coffee.
00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:51.919
And while I was super frustrated, if I hadn't had the passion, I would have given up a long time ago.
00:03:52.319 --> 00:04:01.120
But because I have the passion, because I have this vision for what I want my coffee to be like and how I want to experience it, how I want other people to experience it.
00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:02.800
It keeps me going.
00:04:02.879 --> 00:04:12.560
And all of a sudden I start to make new distinctions because when I'm looking at uh what is a perceived so-called problem, now all of a sudden I'm getting new distinctions.
00:04:12.639 --> 00:04:16.879
I'm learning, and now it enhances my knowledge and my expertise.
00:04:17.120 --> 00:04:21.279
But all that I wouldn't be able to do that without passion.
00:04:22.720 --> 00:04:31.519
And so I challenge you for idea number one is to just engage in something that you're passionate about.
00:04:31.920 --> 00:04:37.519
I'm not saying that you have to, you know, you quit your job and and just pursue your passion.
00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:40.480
Although if you want to do that, I highly encourage it.
00:04:40.560 --> 00:04:42.160
I give you my endorsement.
00:04:42.560 --> 00:04:46.800
But rather just do things for the sake of passion.
00:04:47.040 --> 00:04:57.040
Meaning, if you like gardening, go out in your garden, make it at least a point to do it one time a week to get out into that garden and just start tilling the soil.
00:04:58.079 --> 00:05:01.439
Or maybe you like to cook, but you're you don't really think you're that good at it.
00:05:01.519 --> 00:05:07.519
So therefore, you just kind of you you shy away from it, but you know that it just brings you joy.
00:05:08.000 --> 00:05:17.040
Go cook, go make a new dish because as a result of doing that, it's gonna compound, it's gonna bleed into every other aspect of your life.
00:05:17.759 --> 00:05:20.639
Let's go to point number two, adventure.
00:05:20.800 --> 00:05:31.199
This is one of my favorite, my favorite, favorite, favorite uh ideas around living a life of uh enjoyment because we all want a little bit of adventure, right?
00:05:31.279 --> 00:05:33.680
We all want some novelty in our life.
00:05:34.480 --> 00:05:36.079
Think of the opposite.
00:05:36.240 --> 00:05:44.000
If you don't have any novelty, where things are just going the same thing every single day, you feel like you're gonna go crazy.
00:05:44.319 --> 00:05:46.240
And maybe a lot of you are there.
00:05:47.120 --> 00:05:53.199
I know from my own experience that sometimes I feel that life is just on replay.
00:05:53.519 --> 00:06:00.399
Even when I'm doing, um, you know, when I'm focusing on a project or I'm doing work, I'm just like, oh my God.
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:09.199
I feel I sometimes I feel like I'm going to go insane because it's just the mundaness of the repeating of days of tasks.
00:06:09.439 --> 00:06:17.040
I I feel this sometimes uh in the summer, and I say it sometimes because uh, well, let me go into why I feel in the summer.
00:06:17.120 --> 00:06:21.439
So in the summer, when I'm when I'm running my business, I'm always doing the same thing.
00:06:21.519 --> 00:06:28.800
Like my my my weeks are on repeat, where it's you know, deliveries, production, and it just keeps going, going, going.
00:06:28.879 --> 00:06:31.839
And sometimes I'm like, I cannot wait until I get the break.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:37.600
But the reason why I said sometimes is because there are those moments where I step out.
00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:38.319
Right.
00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:46.319
And and I have to always be very conscious of it because I have the I could fall into the habit of of not stepping out and just keep riding that same train.
00:06:46.399 --> 00:06:48.399
And as a result, I experience the same emotions.
00:06:48.480 --> 00:07:08.959
00:07:09.199 --> 00:07:14.160
Now all of a sudden there's colors, there's some vibrancy to it, and as a result, I'm enjoying that process more.
00:07:14.399 --> 00:07:23.360
So when I think when I tell you about adventure, I mean adventure, um adventure, uh well, it could be something big, right?
00:07:23.519 --> 00:07:26.720
If you want to book that trip, go book that trip.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:30.240
I promise you, it will change your life.
00:07:30.959 --> 00:07:41.439
I actually was went to wanted to say adventure was gonna be my my first point because that's one of my favorite uh for enjoying life, it's one of my favorite tools in my in my tool belt.
00:07:41.839 --> 00:07:44.800
So let's go back to the travel part is book that trip.
00:07:44.879 --> 00:07:47.040
Like, what is it that you're really looking forward to?
00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:52.240
What is it that would add just some spice and aliveness to your life?
00:07:53.439 --> 00:07:55.839
And let's add that into our day.
00:07:56.000 --> 00:08:01.360
Maybe, like I said, maybe it is booking that big trip to somewhere overseas, but maybe it's not, right?
00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:03.199
Maybe that's not your cup of coffee.
00:08:03.519 --> 00:08:10.639
Maybe an adventure for you is just moving to uh or going to a different state.
00:08:10.800 --> 00:08:14.079
Maybe an adventure to you is trying a different restaurant.
00:08:14.399 --> 00:08:20.959
I used to make the the mistake of thinking that everyone was like me in the sense that you know everyone wants to travel, right?
00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:25.839
Everyone wants to travel around the world, visit different countries, go hosteling.
00:08:26.480 --> 00:08:28.319
And uh, but it's not the case.
00:08:28.480 --> 00:08:33.120
I I remember talking to some people, they're like, that sounds like the worst thing ever.
00:08:33.519 --> 00:08:35.200
But for me, I love it.
00:08:35.440 --> 00:08:37.039
So, what is it to you?
00:08:37.440 --> 00:08:44.480
Like, what would an amazing adventure look, feel, or even taste like to you?
00:08:44.879 --> 00:08:58.399
And I encourage you just to go out and just start putting yourself in the unknown because the reason why if you feel like you're in a rut, if you feel like life is mundane and it's just one repeating day after the other, it's because you're not adding any variety.
00:08:58.480 --> 00:09:02.639
You're you're staying in win with what you know and what you're predicting.
00:09:02.720 --> 00:09:05.759
As a result, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy now loop.
00:09:06.000 --> 00:09:10.960
So you gotta step outside of that loop, and as a result, step in outside of it, you're gonna feel more aliveness.
00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:13.200
Yes, it could be scary, right?
00:09:13.360 --> 00:09:16.799
Just by by experiencing something new, there's unknown, right?
00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:24.240
You're like, oh, what if something I promise you very there's very little that's gonna happen that's gonna put you in danger.
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:35.279
Yeah, you look at uh people you may meet, you you may be fearful of being judged or trying something new and being fearful of not doing correctly or failing at it.
00:09:35.840 --> 00:09:37.519
These are all just lies.
00:09:38.240 --> 00:09:50.559
So I encourage you to put some adventure into your life and just get out there and and see how it just shapes your day, your week, and how you feel.
00:09:51.279 --> 00:09:52.879
Let's go to idea number three.
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:55.279
Let's talk about your relationships.
00:09:56.960 --> 00:10:03.519
This one point is probably the most important out of um out of all of them.
00:10:03.679 --> 00:10:05.519
Why I put it number three, I don't know.
00:10:05.679 --> 00:10:10.320
I guess it's kind of I I think I'm going kind of uh not really of importance.
00:10:10.399 --> 00:10:18.559
The the last point is in uh is gonna be very important too, but this one is probably the most important because none of us do it alone, right?
00:10:18.720 --> 00:10:27.360
If if you're alone, what would satisfaction would you get if you were going after all these great things, but there was no one there to experience it with?
00:10:28.080 --> 00:10:30.720
I know from my own perspective, like I wouldn't enjoy it at all.
00:10:30.799 --> 00:10:39.279
One of the reasons why I go out and I travel the world, or even even my my my passion for coffee, like why do I do that?
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:45.039
Yeah, yes, I like having my coffee alone, but why do I do it in the first place?
00:10:46.639 --> 00:10:49.360
I do it because I want to impact other people.
00:10:49.519 --> 00:11:03.360
I travel because I know that on that journey that I meet people and the experiences and the people I meet are so raw that I feel this connection that is deeper than sometimes the relationships that I've had at home for decades.
00:11:04.559 --> 00:11:09.519
And it's because uh there's a part of me that I'm bringing out, I'm allowing out into the world.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:20.399
And so though those people, if I were to take them out of that experience, like my my top experiences are my uh a lot of my trips.
00:11:20.559 --> 00:11:23.279
And it when I look back and reflect on it, well, why was it?
00:11:23.360 --> 00:11:32.399
I could be like, oh, well, yeah, you know, going to the top of Machu Picchu, and oh, it was one of my most memorable trips, going to Peru.
00:11:32.480 --> 00:11:33.360
Man, I loved it.
00:11:33.440 --> 00:11:36.399
But when I think of like what were the real reasons, like why did I enjoy?
00:11:36.720 --> 00:11:42.559
I met some amazing people, especially these two Irish guys who were freaking when they were a hoot, they were they were so awesome.
00:11:42.720 --> 00:11:46.799
Uh Neil and uh I'm trying to remember the other guy's name, but they they were amazing.
00:11:46.879 --> 00:11:54.080
They made they were one of the reasons why I enjoyed it so much because they were just so carefree, welcoming, and funny.
00:11:54.879 --> 00:12:00.480
But and then I mean any other trip I can remember, it's always been because of the people I've met, right?
00:12:00.559 --> 00:12:06.960
I've had some great experiences, but if I didn't meet and share those experiences with other people, then it wouldn't have been the same trip.
00:12:07.600 --> 00:12:13.279
So the better your relationships, the happier you're gonna be.
00:12:14.320 --> 00:12:18.000
And uh I'll leave you with one more uh like story about this.
00:12:18.080 --> 00:12:21.440
Uh, my friend Andrea, Andrea, if you're watching this, I'll give you a shout out there.
00:12:21.519 --> 00:12:22.320
How you doing?
00:12:22.559 --> 00:12:32.799
Um he came to visit the United States with his girlfriend, and we went out to a uh a bar in Stanford.
00:12:33.759 --> 00:12:41.600
We were all together, my me, a couple of my siblings, and then him and with uh a few of his friends were all like mutual friends.
00:12:42.480 --> 00:12:46.639
And he was asking, he asked my brother, he's like, Hey, how often do you guys do this?
00:12:46.799 --> 00:12:51.919
We're like, and his his his friend was said, like, I haven't seen Phil, who's my brother.
00:12:52.080 --> 00:12:55.919
He's like, I haven't seen him in in years, I think since his wedding.
00:12:56.320 --> 00:13:01.600
And my friend Andrea looked at his like he was like, that blows my mind.
00:13:02.000 --> 00:13:06.720
He's like, How you're good friends, but yet you haven't seen them in years.
00:13:07.200 --> 00:13:10.320
And he was contrasting that with his life back at home in Italy.
00:13:10.399 --> 00:13:18.320
And one of the things I love about uh my friends in Italy is that they constantly make time to nurture their relationships.
00:13:18.639 --> 00:13:22.159
And he was saying, like, I I see my friends multiple times a week.
00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:28.480
I I couldn't imagine seeing them once a year, like once a week, or even like once every few years.
00:13:30.240 --> 00:13:36.960
And it got me thinking too uh when I was in Italy, I met some of my good friends, like my friend Gianluca.
00:13:38.159 --> 00:13:45.279
And I love the fact that like there was this camaraderie and this like playfulness in the friendships because they always made it a point to get together.
00:13:45.440 --> 00:13:51.360
Even sometimes I would call him and he would just be getting out of the cafe at like I don't even like 12 a.m.
00:13:51.519 --> 00:13:52.240
or something like that.
00:13:52.399 --> 00:13:53.519
And I'm like, hey, what are you doing?
00:13:53.679 --> 00:13:56.240
He's like, Well, I'm gonna go out and meet my friends for a drink.
00:13:56.480 --> 00:13:58.159
I'm like, that's freaking awesome, right?
00:13:58.240 --> 00:14:04.000
Like, normally if I if I'm working all day and I'm like, you know, I'm tired, I'm not doing anything.
00:14:04.159 --> 00:14:12.399
But they made it a point to go out there, and there is a reason why they have such close relationships, is because they invest in the time in those.
00:14:12.639 --> 00:14:22.320
So I I want the the reason why I tell you this is one, just to not downplay how important relationships are in your life, because it's so easy to get caught in the achievement of things.
00:14:22.480 --> 00:14:25.600
And when I say it's so easy, I'm telling you, I'm talking about my own life, right?
00:14:25.679 --> 00:14:29.200
Um, but I think that you're kind of a mirror to me in some regards.
00:14:29.360 --> 00:14:30.720
So you can relate.
00:14:31.120 --> 00:14:42.399
It's so easy to get caught in the striving for goals that you remember that you don't remember the things that really matter most and are are really gonna move the needle, and those are your relationships.
00:14:42.960 --> 00:14:50.480
So get out there, schedule some time with the people you care about most, and just be curious, learn something about them, right?
00:14:50.720 --> 00:14:56.639
See how they're doing, be vulnerable, share the top three, share the bottom three.
00:14:56.799 --> 00:15:00.080
One of the, I'll just give you a little strategy before I go to the last point.
00:15:00.799 --> 00:15:10.240
When I was in this uh this coaching group with one of my coaches, she said, you're not gonna share all of you know, you're not gonna share your most vulnerable points with everybody.
00:15:10.559 --> 00:15:14.960
But the people in this coaching program that I was in, they're like, you know, these are your people.
00:15:15.360 --> 00:15:18.799
You can you can show up here without any judgment.
00:15:19.120 --> 00:15:26.240
So tell you know what's going great in your life as well as the bottom 30% of what's not going great in your life.
00:15:26.559 --> 00:15:35.759
And I remember being on calls and sharing these things with people, and as a result of sharing this, you just felt so much more connected because you felt like you were actually really dealing with people, right?
00:15:35.919 --> 00:15:47.039
When they were sharing, like maybe there was someone was going through a hardship because they're they had aging parents and they were going through all these health things and that they're how they were nervous and fearful and afraid.
00:15:47.120 --> 00:15:51.600
And all of a sudden your heart went out to them and you just felt like they were real people.
00:15:52.399 --> 00:15:58.960
How often do you do that with your the people in your life, your friends, your family, like your close friends and family?
00:15:59.600 --> 00:16:11.279
I'm willing to bet that you're like a lot of the people in your life, even the closest people, they probably don't know a fraction, like a tenth of a percent of what is really going on in your life.
00:16:11.519 --> 00:16:18.399
And it might feel like uh like protection, like, oh, they want to understand, but what you're really doing is you're isolating yourself.
00:16:18.879 --> 00:16:28.720
So uh to finish this point on personal relationships is just to put yourself out there to share, to be vulnerable to the right people, not everybody, to the right people.
00:16:29.120 --> 00:16:39.600
Because they will help lift you up, they will you will feel understood and it will energize your life to keep on going and you'll feel more joy because you feel connected to somebody.
00:16:39.919 --> 00:16:45.039
And the last point, the last point of this is drum roll, please.
00:16:45.679 --> 00:16:46.960
Personal growth, right?
00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:49.360
It is probably not one you expect for number one, right?
00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:50.240
Personal growth.
00:16:50.399 --> 00:16:55.679
Like, how does growing more make me feel more live and more enjoyment?
00:16:55.840 --> 00:16:56.559
It does.
00:16:56.879 --> 00:17:00.320
And I'll I'll give you kind of um, I'll give you a story for it.
00:17:00.559 --> 00:17:13.200
So when I think of the the the moments that I appreciate, some of the moments that I appreciate or I'm most proud of in my life, they are the moments where I stretched myself to grow.
00:17:14.559 --> 00:17:20.960
And some of those moments include uh when I was in college, I nearly failed out of school.
00:17:21.039 --> 00:17:25.359
I was so close to failing out of school, and then I did a complete 180.
00:17:25.440 --> 00:17:31.200
I I got, you know, I was like, oh my God, if I fail out of school, then I'm not gonna be able to get into the business school.
00:17:31.279 --> 00:17:33.519
I'm not gonna be able to have a career in finance.
00:17:33.759 --> 00:17:36.480
Little did I know, never end up in finance, anyways.
00:17:36.720 --> 00:17:41.279
And all of a sudden, did a complete 180, I studied my butt off, right?
00:17:41.359 --> 00:17:50.480
And I pushed myself to grow as a result of feeling of uh of that that push of having a vision that I was moving towards.
00:17:50.880 --> 00:17:54.559
All of a sudden, I I felt a lot better about myself.
00:17:54.720 --> 00:18:00.559
I was inspiring people around me because they saw what was capable, I was a reflection for themselves.
00:18:00.720 --> 00:18:01.680
So I felt good.
00:18:01.839 --> 00:18:13.759
I was growing, and then I ended finishing the business school with a uh GPA of 3.8, 3.83, which is nearly almost like a 4.0 in every single class, an NA in every single class that I took.
00:18:14.000 --> 00:18:21.680
Um, and then also with regard to when I did my weightlifting competition, I mean, there's a I could choose a million different stories.
00:18:21.759 --> 00:18:22.799
These are the top two.
00:18:23.519 --> 00:18:43.519
The amount of discipline and dedication it took to to push through that, as I came out the other end, I mean, I I was so proud of that experience because it it shaped my life and and made me understand like, well, what am I really capable of if I put my mind to it?
00:18:44.480 --> 00:18:53.680
So I'll end the uh the personal growth bullet with this is that when you think of when you feel alive, right?
00:18:53.839 --> 00:18:57.920
The this feeling, like a lot of the emotions that we feel in life are very fleeting.
00:18:58.319 --> 00:19:04.799
You you feel them one minute, all of a sudden you're you know, you go from happy to sad, from scared to excited, right?
00:19:04.880 --> 00:19:07.599
It nothing lasts forever.
00:19:08.960 --> 00:19:18.720
And the the the sooner you can understand that, the more grace you can give yourself to just allow these emotions to flow through, but also to just kind of redirect your past.
00:19:18.799 --> 00:19:20.960
But let me go back to the personal growth.
00:19:22.160 --> 00:19:28.640
I had heard this on the and I'll I'll tell you about this uh this uh podcast I was listening to.
00:19:28.799 --> 00:19:31.680
I think it was Brandon Brashard or Ed Milette.
00:19:32.079 --> 00:19:34.240
And they were talking about I think it was Brandon Braschard.
00:19:34.400 --> 00:19:45.359
He was talking about growth and how how the highest achievers they push towards this area of uncertainty because of the feeling of uh uh the feeling of growth.
00:19:45.599 --> 00:19:49.039
I was like, well, how does that I'm trying to understand like how does that make sense?
00:19:49.119 --> 00:20:00.240
Like, what do they mean that by pushing towards this, like this is and they're like, because you feel alive when you take new steps, when you start to get the momentum, momentum, it makes you feel alive.
00:20:00.960 --> 00:20:13.680
So when you finish, when you're approaching a goal and you're about to achieve that goal, you set a new goal to to move towards this way it keeps that feeling going, like new pursuits, like write a book.
00:20:13.759 --> 00:20:15.279
Like, why write a book, right?
00:20:15.519 --> 00:20:16.960
Whatever your your goals are.
00:20:17.039 --> 00:20:20.000
I mean, you can easily stay where you are and not want to do anything, right?
00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:20.400
Why?
00:20:20.559 --> 00:20:22.480
Hey, well, you know, I'm pretty comfortable right here.
00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:23.920
Like, what start a podcast?
00:20:24.000 --> 00:20:25.279
Why start a podcast, right?
00:20:25.359 --> 00:20:27.680
Um, you know, why why write a book?
00:20:27.839 --> 00:20:31.119
I mean, I don't need to write a book, it seems like a lot of work.
00:20:32.160 --> 00:20:39.200
But the the art, or I should say, the act of growing is what makes you feel alive.
00:20:39.279 --> 00:20:46.319
So, this is I'm I'm giving you growth in the sense of you know, uh going after your goals, but let's talk about personal growth.
00:20:46.559 --> 00:20:49.359
Let's talk about understanding yourself.
00:20:49.920 --> 00:20:51.920
This is, I talk about journeys a lot.
00:20:52.079 --> 00:20:54.640
I talk about, you know, oh, you know, go travel here, go travel there.
00:20:54.720 --> 00:20:56.720
But how about taking the journey inward?
00:20:57.519 --> 00:21:04.880
How about taking the journey to understand who you are, what your desires are, what part of you you're showing out to the world?
00:21:05.200 --> 00:21:11.920
Because sometimes we put masks on and we we we hide our true self, our aspirations in order to fit in.
00:21:12.799 --> 00:21:21.759
But if you're not reflecting on who you are, then you're blind to who you are, then you're blind to life because you're not really even sure.
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:25.759
You haven't acknowledged yet who you are and what your real desires are.
00:21:26.559 --> 00:21:50.880
So personal growth is first and foremost about getting the awareness about yourself and then learning that following your heart, but also skilling yourself to for all of the uh the the skills, the talents, the that you're gonna need in order to progress towards your dreams.
00:21:51.920 --> 00:21:55.359
So I'll let me give you I'll give you those four ideas one more time.
00:21:55.440 --> 00:21:58.720
Uh so the first one I kind of didn't matter what the first one was adventure.
00:21:58.880 --> 00:21:59.839
I said passionate pursuit.
00:22:00.400 --> 00:22:01.759
But for me, it's adventure.
00:22:01.839 --> 00:22:14.960
And they're kind of going of importance of least importance to most importance, but also some of the like the highest highs to um well, maybe not really, but the um so least importance to most important, right?
00:22:15.039 --> 00:22:23.200
So first is adventure, like getting out there, getting a sense of adventure because it will fuel you, it'll give you this feeling of feeling alive.
00:22:23.359 --> 00:22:31.519
And sometimes that that feeling alone, when you're feeling it, spills into all the other areas of your life and allows everything to lift up.
00:22:31.680 --> 00:22:33.920
Secondly, is passionate pursuits.
00:22:34.079 --> 00:22:40.960
Every day, do something that you're passionate about because by doing some, you you allow yourself just to find joy in the small moments.
00:22:41.119 --> 00:22:47.119
You allow yourself to not put off pleasure, but actually to enjoy it while you're on that journey.
00:22:47.359 --> 00:22:49.839
Number three is great relationships.
00:22:50.160 --> 00:22:54.400
Everything you want is going to require someone else's help too.
00:22:54.480 --> 00:23:02.240
But not only that, but when we have great relationships, when we feel understood, our sense of happiness increases.
00:23:02.480 --> 00:23:05.279
So get out there, form some relationships.
00:23:05.519 --> 00:23:12.960
And if you are saying that you don't have any friendships or relate deep relationships, just make some, right?
00:23:13.119 --> 00:23:17.680
You the the the way you grow a relationship is by spending time there.
00:23:17.839 --> 00:23:19.200
And it doesn't have to be about you.
00:23:19.279 --> 00:23:22.400
If you may feel self-conscious, like, oh, I don't know what to say, I don't want to share.
00:23:22.559 --> 00:23:23.839
Ask about them.
00:23:24.400 --> 00:23:33.599
The more you understand about other people, the more inclined that you'll probably you'll be able to relate and you'll be able to they'll end up, you know, say, hey, well, what do you think?
00:23:33.680 --> 00:23:35.279
And you know, then you start sharing your own feelings.
00:23:35.440 --> 00:23:38.240
Get out there, make some friends, deep in those relationships.
00:23:38.400 --> 00:23:40.880
And lastly, growth.
00:23:41.440 --> 00:23:45.039
Do something today that is gonna push your own personal growth.
00:23:45.279 --> 00:23:52.319
Maybe it is just getting a journaling and saying, okay, like, well, let me journal, let me see how am I feeling right now.
00:23:52.559 --> 00:23:58.880
Like, how do I feel about my life and the direction that I'm going and what needs to change?
00:23:59.119 --> 00:24:03.200
Like, this is all awareness, is the first step to growth.
00:24:03.359 --> 00:24:07.519
So you got to get awareness, you gotta understand, like, who are you really?
00:24:07.839 --> 00:24:10.400
What is it that you really want in this life?
00:24:10.720 --> 00:24:22.240
Because life is we we have the this uh habit, or I would say the propensity to think that life is gonna go on forever.
00:24:22.559 --> 00:24:27.440
When the truth is that not a single one of us knows when our time is gonna come.
00:24:28.480 --> 00:24:37.359
And I'll leave this, this could be a whole different topic altogether, but purpose, when you're reminded of your purpose, it's one of the things that pushes you forward.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:40.160
And then also mortality.
00:24:40.559 --> 00:24:55.119
When you realize that every day is a gift, every day is a blessing, it changes how you show up in your day because no longer are you taking it for granted that you're gonna be here another day, but you're realizing that you know what, I'm here now.
00:24:55.440 --> 00:24:58.799
I've got to make good with the time that I have.
00:24:59.279 --> 00:25:05.119
And I want to feel good about how I spend my my time today, if today was all there is.
00:25:06.240 --> 00:25:12.400
I I sometimes I don't really like going, you know, when I I feel like it's I don't think it's morbid.
00:25:12.480 --> 00:25:15.920
Some people, some of my friends might say, like, oh, well, wow, that's kind of deep.
00:25:16.000 --> 00:25:17.359
You're going into you talking about death.
00:25:17.519 --> 00:25:20.400
But yeah, but let's let's let's shine a light on it, right?
00:25:20.480 --> 00:25:22.480
Let's not pretend like it doesn't exist.
00:25:23.599 --> 00:25:40.720
Because by acknowledging that your time here is finite, it helps you to dust off like the dirt that is covering you from your real desires, from how you really want to show up in your day and in your relationships and in life.
00:25:41.759 --> 00:26:00.720
00:26:00.960 --> 00:26:02.880
