00:00:08.320 --> 00:00:22.879
Hey everybody, it's Richard Ramos and welcome back to the Parent Whisperer Podcast, where we are bringing every week stories, principles, guests, and today I have a guest who I will be introducing to you.
00:00:23.199 --> 00:00:36.640
But I find that all even though we teach all the principles, those of you who are familiar with Parents on a Mission, we teach these principles, we're trying to give you information and guidance and encouragement.
00:00:36.880 --> 00:00:59.920
But a lot of times the best way to really get across the things that we're teaching is to hear stories or to hear some other principles, other practitioners like my guest, what they're teaching and how they're going about, are reaching parents, helping parents, encouraging moms and dads, single moms, blended families, divorcees, all of it.
00:01:00.159 --> 00:01:01.840
That's our goal.
00:01:02.159 --> 00:01:05.280
And also I want to thank those of you who are subscribing.
00:01:05.359 --> 00:01:06.879
I really appreciate it.
00:01:07.200 --> 00:01:12.480
And what really helps grow our podcast is when you leave a review.
00:01:12.799 --> 00:01:14.799
Love people leaving reviews.
00:01:14.959 --> 00:01:19.920
And also if you subscribe, because I know a lot of times people listen but they don't subscribe.
00:01:20.159 --> 00:01:27.040
And I understand that, but I just would ask you as a favor, it would be very helpful if you're willing to subscribe.
00:01:27.359 --> 00:01:43.920
So review, subscribe, and if you share the podcast with your friends, friends, or family who, when you hear a specific topic or whatever, you feel like wow, that would really help so and so share that with them, and then hopefully they'll become a subscriber and we just grow.
00:01:44.319 --> 00:01:46.879
Why do I want to grow the channel?
00:01:47.200 --> 00:01:49.200
Because we want to help more people.
00:01:49.439 --> 00:01:52.159
Okay, that's why we want to help more people.
00:01:52.319 --> 00:01:53.359
That that's the goal.
00:01:53.599 --> 00:01:57.280
And if you would do that for me, I really appreciate it.
00:01:57.599 --> 00:02:06.799
So today I want to introduce you to somebody who's new to me, but again, she's reaching parents specific to mothers.
00:02:06.959 --> 00:02:08.800
Her name is Bethany Rose.
00:02:08.879 --> 00:02:21.919
She's helping Christian moms move from survival mode to peace through scripture and nervous system regulation, which is what I want to her to delve more deeply.
00:02:22.000 --> 00:02:22.719
Like, what is that?
00:02:22.879 --> 00:02:24.479
Nervous system regulation.
00:02:24.879 --> 00:02:25.680
Just a short bio.
00:02:25.919 --> 00:02:36.800
Bethany Rose is the host of the Spiritual Growth for Christian Moms podcast and a Christian nervous system coach who helps overwhelmed moms move out of the survival mode.
00:02:36.879 --> 00:02:48.719
By pairing biblical truth with practical regulation tools, she helps women find more peace, patience, emotional resilience, and freedom in their walk with Christ.
00:02:48.960 --> 00:02:52.000
Bethany Rose, thank you for being a part of the program.
00:02:52.159 --> 00:02:52.879
Welcome.
00:02:53.439 --> 00:02:54.000
Thank you.
00:02:54.159 --> 00:02:56.639
I'm so I'm very happy to be here.
00:02:57.120 --> 00:02:58.319
It's great to have you.
00:02:58.400 --> 00:03:10.000
And I would like you just for people who don't know you and I'm getting to know you, just introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about you, and then we'll get into the work that you're doing.
00:03:10.400 --> 00:03:11.759
Yeah, absolutely.
00:03:12.080 --> 00:03:14.240
I have three little kids.
00:03:14.479 --> 00:03:17.680
They're nine, almost eight, and three.
00:03:17.919 --> 00:03:26.800
And when the third one was born, is when my shift of my income versus child care shifted.
00:03:26.960 --> 00:03:33.680
So I started staying home full-time, which we were talking about this before we recorded, was a battle.
00:03:33.759 --> 00:03:35.680
It was a huge learning curve.
00:03:35.840 --> 00:03:37.439
It is still a learning curve.
00:03:37.840 --> 00:03:40.319
I've been the working mom and now I'm the stay-at-home mom.
00:03:40.400 --> 00:03:43.120
And honestly, I think working mom was easier.
00:03:43.439 --> 00:03:44.080
Yeah.
00:03:44.319 --> 00:03:45.520
So you're still working now.
00:03:45.599 --> 00:03:46.960
You're working harder now.
00:03:47.199 --> 00:03:49.520
Yes, it's there's no clocking out now.
00:03:49.680 --> 00:03:59.680
It's just staying home is a much more emotional toll than working was more of a physical toll, which seemed feels easier for me to get through.
00:03:59.919 --> 00:04:01.599
So that's been an adventure.
00:04:01.840 --> 00:04:04.719
And my husband, he's a great supporter.
00:04:04.960 --> 00:04:12.240
He's actually my second husband, and we've only been married for a little over three years.
00:04:12.400 --> 00:04:20.639
So we didn't quite get our newlywed phase because we're just raising kids, but I always joke with them.
00:04:22.160 --> 00:04:25.839
There's no newlywed, but when you bring kids into it, it's instant family.
00:04:26.079 --> 00:04:27.040
And I know what that's like.
00:04:27.360 --> 00:04:30.319
It's instant family, it's instant hard work, it's instant trials.
00:04:30.480 --> 00:04:35.120
And I always joke with them that in 18 years we're gonna be really good at dating each other.
00:04:35.759 --> 00:04:36.879
That's you know what?
00:04:36.959 --> 00:04:38.480
That's a marriage class right there.
00:04:38.560 --> 00:04:40.160
But we're gonna talk about parenting.
00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:41.759
That that is so true.
00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:47.839
We a lot of the parents that we work with, and those that are listening, you know, they've been through similar circumstances.
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:57.920
And so we all know when we personally, when we hit some valleys or bumps, whatever we want to call them, it affects our children.
00:04:58.480 --> 00:05:14.160
And it is true going leaving your house every day and going to a separate location, nine to five, whatever it is, and then coming home is different than being home all day and working.
00:05:14.399 --> 00:05:16.639
That's what I do, that's what my wife does.
00:05:16.959 --> 00:05:25.040
But it is adjustment, it's not uh some people struggle with that because it the the lines are always blurry.
00:05:25.279 --> 00:05:30.879
Yes, yes, and I've talked about before biblical priorities and biblical order of the house.
00:05:31.040 --> 00:05:33.279
And I know this isn't the focus of what we're talking about today.
00:05:33.360 --> 00:05:40.800
I'm funny trailing here, but it goes God, spouse, kids, and then ministry and work.
00:05:41.199 --> 00:05:46.000
And it's hard when you're home all the time to keep those in that order.
00:05:46.160 --> 00:05:47.439
For me, it is, anyways.
00:05:47.680 --> 00:05:54.079
It's really hard for me to always put my husband above my kids because that's my identity right now.
00:05:54.240 --> 00:05:56.639
It's like God is my identity, but that's my job.
00:05:56.800 --> 00:05:58.879
I'm mom all the time, 24-7.
00:05:59.120 --> 00:06:01.680
It's hard to keep them number three on the list.
00:06:02.160 --> 00:06:04.319
Yeah, yeah, no, I understand that.
00:06:04.399 --> 00:06:11.199
And but that is the current, in my opinion as well, that is the correct order that we should have for in our life.
00:06:11.279 --> 00:06:17.920
And I think that as we we as we're maintaining that and looking to that, ultimately our spouse and our children do benefit.
00:06:18.079 --> 00:06:26.240
Of course, it sometimes seems like the kids are the priority over our spouse, or maybe sometimes the other way around.
00:06:26.480 --> 00:06:31.439
Or work could be work if like if you're traveling a lot and you're not home.
00:06:32.240 --> 00:06:39.279
But ultimately, because you have God at the top of there, that keeps us, reminds us what is really important.
00:06:39.839 --> 00:06:45.600
So I think people out there listening that that's a good framework that you gave there.
00:06:45.920 --> 00:06:57.040
Having God, spouse, children, and then work because or ministry because a lot of people put the kids second to God versus spouse.
00:06:57.439 --> 00:06:59.759
But again, we're not here to talk about marriage.
00:06:59.920 --> 00:07:02.160
Yes, after marriage class, maybe next time.
00:07:02.480 --> 00:07:02.959
Yeah.
00:07:03.279 --> 00:07:15.360
But so how did you again spiritual growth for Christian moms and uh a Christian nervous system coach?
00:07:15.680 --> 00:07:19.199
Number one, how did you come up with that or get into that?
00:07:19.279 --> 00:07:20.879
And then number two, what is it?
00:07:21.040 --> 00:07:22.959
What do you do exactly?
00:07:23.759 --> 00:07:28.399
So how I got into it, I'm gonna share.
00:07:28.480 --> 00:07:33.360
Well, I'll share in just a second exactly my experience and what I went through.
00:07:33.680 --> 00:07:42.720
But about two years ago now, God told me in a dream, and this was like such a detailed real life dream.
00:07:42.879 --> 00:07:46.720
It was down on a paper, outlined the subjects to talk about everything.
00:07:46.959 --> 00:07:52.399
He was like, start a podcast and share with me with moms.
00:07:53.279 --> 00:08:04.319
And so I couldn't stop thinking about it, and usually that's kind of how God talks to me is like a persistent thought that is unusual for me and out of character out of character for me.
00:08:04.560 --> 00:08:07.439
So I know it's his and then it doesn't go away.
00:08:07.759 --> 00:08:11.759
So it didn't go away, and then I ended up jumping into the podcast world.
00:08:11.920 --> 00:08:17.519
I'm still not sure what I'm doing, so I'm still learning that too.
00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:29.600
Yeah, but as far as the topic, I knew years ago when I was going through probably the hardest part I've ever of my life I've had to go through so far.
00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:36.480
I knew in the midst of it that God was gonna use it somehow, and it's like now it's go time and now he's actually using it.
00:08:36.879 --> 00:08:44.000
So I told you my husband's my second husband, my first husband.
00:08:44.240 --> 00:08:58.879
We were together a little over 10 years, married for five to six years, and during that time I wasn't living my best Christian life, if you will.
00:08:59.039 --> 00:09:02.399
I believed in God, but I can't say I necessarily had a relationship with him.
00:09:02.799 --> 00:09:09.360
We drank a lot and we fought a lot, and every time we drank, the fighting got worse.
00:09:09.759 --> 00:09:18.080
There was a lot of instances that happened in our marriage, like infidelity things that always came up when we were drinking.
00:09:18.320 --> 00:09:24.559
And if you've been there, you've been there, and you know that alcohol just really like kindles is kindling to that fire.
00:09:24.720 --> 00:09:25.360
That's right.
00:09:26.080 --> 00:09:36.159
So it wasn't the best marriage, but then I never tried to get a divorce because I'm married and we're gonna work through this.
00:09:36.399 --> 00:09:43.200
But then one day I had that very persistent thought that I told you how God talks to me, and he said, Divorce your husband.
00:09:44.320 --> 00:09:46.639
That's a weird thought for God to say, right?
00:09:46.960 --> 00:09:50.720
But it didn't go away, and it just kept coming back and coming back.
00:09:51.039 --> 00:10:02.159
And eventually I found out that we weren't really married because that whole 10 plus years he was married to someone else.
00:10:02.480 --> 00:10:03.759
Oh, wow.
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:10.480
So our wedding was void, our marriage was void, our none of it was actually real, like legally.
00:10:10.879 --> 00:10:18.720
And so once I found that out, it was almost like a release and clarity to what God was telling me.
00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:20.879
And all I had to do was leave.
00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:25.440
And if you've ever left a spouse, that's also not easy.
00:10:25.759 --> 00:10:29.840
No, it's not it was a top, no, and it was a toxic relationship.
00:10:30.159 --> 00:10:37.120
I truly believe God wanted me out of that situation, but it doesn't mean it was easy and it was not a clean rip, if you will.
00:10:37.200 --> 00:10:38.720
It was like, I'm gonna rip a little here.
00:10:38.799 --> 00:10:42.080
Nope, I want to tape it back together and then rip it and then tape it.
00:10:42.240 --> 00:10:48.080
And it was probably a year-long process of finally, okay, I'm leaving.
00:10:48.159 --> 00:10:49.679
But I didn't have a job at the time.
00:10:49.840 --> 00:10:52.240
I didn't have a place to live.
00:10:53.440 --> 00:10:56.799
And I lived about 20 minutes away from my parents.
00:10:57.120 --> 00:11:01.759
So I wanted to go up that direction where they were, the hometown I was from.
00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:07.360
And God ordained in such a way me to get a job up there in the interview.
00:11:07.519 --> 00:11:17.200
I was a dental assistant at the time, so it was a dental office, and the interview with this dentist and his wife, who's the office manager, lasted over three hours.
00:11:17.440 --> 00:11:18.000
Really?
00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:22.879
Your interview turned into a counseling session.
00:11:23.279 --> 00:11:24.240
It really did.
00:11:24.399 --> 00:11:28.080
I even talked to them about at the I had left.
00:11:28.159 --> 00:11:31.840
I think he was living with his parents at the time, and I was trying to move up north.
00:11:32.000 --> 00:11:35.360
So I was I had left, but I hadn't technically left.
00:11:35.519 --> 00:11:36.799
I talked to him about that.
00:11:36.960 --> 00:11:38.720
Who talks about that in an interview?
00:11:38.960 --> 00:11:41.440
Yeah, yeah, that's incredible.
00:11:41.600 --> 00:11:42.240
Yeah.
00:11:43.039 --> 00:11:57.759
And I don't doubt God wanted me under there, and then they became such good role models for me, and such just they took me under their wing, and I could almost cry talking about how much good came from that job.
00:11:58.000 --> 00:11:58.480
Yeah.
00:11:58.799 --> 00:12:07.600
And within a week of starting there, I this is just an example of God's provision here.
00:12:07.759 --> 00:12:08.000
Okay.
00:12:08.159 --> 00:12:19.200
So I told my dad, I've always loved art, and I've always had a side gig for art stuff, whether selling painting, selling something, or teaching painting classes.
00:12:19.519 --> 00:12:21.919
And I told my dad, I had two kids at this point.
00:12:22.080 --> 00:12:25.039
They're both two, they're both under two.
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:35.440
I told my dad, I was like, I want a house next to you guys in the country with extra room for my arts and crafts and three bedrooms.
00:12:35.679 --> 00:12:44.399
And he laughed at me because a single mom's income or what even just one person's income is hard to find.
00:12:44.720 --> 00:12:50.720
Anything I could afford was an apartment in probably not the greatest part of town, to be honest.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:56.320
So about the first or second week I started working at this dental office.
00:12:56.639 --> 00:13:01.840
They drove past a house in the country and they're like, hey, we sell this house for rent.
00:13:02.159 --> 00:13:06.000
I went and looked on lunch break, and it was in my price range.
00:13:06.080 --> 00:13:09.360
I called my dad and I'm like, hey, I need a co-signer.
00:13:09.519 --> 00:13:10.799
Can you come look at this?
00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:15.200
I kid you not, it was 0.8 miles from their house in the country.
00:13:15.279 --> 00:13:16.399
You know what I'm gonna say.
00:13:16.639 --> 00:13:20.639
Three bedrooms, it's a full basement for my arts and crafts.
00:13:21.279 --> 00:13:22.080
That's great.
00:13:22.240 --> 00:13:24.559
Yep, it sounds like God to me.
00:13:24.960 --> 00:13:30.000
Yes, and he continued doing that this entire period of my life.
00:13:30.480 --> 00:13:37.200
So, anyways, during all of this, I was having panic attacks that would send me to the emergency room.
00:13:37.360 --> 00:13:42.799
I was having high anxiety that I didn't understand at the time what these things were.
00:13:42.879 --> 00:13:54.080
I didn't understand it was a panic attack until two ER doctors, my medical, my regular doctor, a neurologist, all told me, you're healthy, this is a panic attack.
00:13:54.240 --> 00:13:57.200
And then finally I was like, maybe they're right.
00:13:58.320 --> 00:14:01.519
I got put on anxiety meds, antidepressants.
00:14:01.759 --> 00:14:10.639
I had anxiety so bad, I can just remember the feeling of it just in my bones, in my whole body.
00:14:10.960 --> 00:14:15.600
Sometimes I couldn't even drive myself places because the anxiety was so bad.
00:14:15.840 --> 00:14:17.840
And that was, like I said, all new to me.
00:14:18.000 --> 00:14:22.000
So I had to not only work through it, but I identify what it was.
00:14:22.559 --> 00:14:27.919
I went to therapy a couple different people, a couple of different ways.
00:14:29.279 --> 00:14:30.799
I cried a lot.
00:14:31.039 --> 00:14:33.759
I felt very alone, I felt very depressed.
00:14:33.840 --> 00:14:35.120
I felt like rock bottom.
00:14:35.200 --> 00:14:46.639
I felt like my world was just went from like a family of five to crash, and I'm single mom with two, like with no money, no nothing.
00:14:47.279 --> 00:14:51.120
I'm working three jobs, my parents are my other half.
00:14:51.360 --> 00:14:57.679
I'm in my 30s, and my parents are not only my best friends, but they're my other half of parenting.
00:14:57.919 --> 00:14:58.559
Yeah.
00:14:58.960 --> 00:15:03.039
Now, who prescribed the the medication to you?
00:15:04.720 --> 00:15:06.480
It was my family doctor.
00:15:06.879 --> 00:15:07.360
The doctor.
00:15:07.679 --> 00:15:10.799
How do you and how do you feel about that now?
00:15:10.960 --> 00:15:13.519
Or you maybe you're gonna talk about that.
00:15:13.759 --> 00:15:14.879
How do you feel about that?
00:15:14.960 --> 00:15:16.159
About the medication.
00:15:18.000 --> 00:15:19.919
I never wanted to take it.
00:15:20.240 --> 00:15:22.799
I was very anti-medicine.
00:15:23.120 --> 00:15:27.279
And through all of these years, I've been on and off of it several times.
00:15:27.519 --> 00:15:36.960
I get off of it because I don't want it, and then things start to go really bad, and then I get back on it before I want to do something to myself, and it it gets scary.
00:15:37.360 --> 00:15:47.519
And now how I feel about it is it's not a shameful thing.
00:15:47.919 --> 00:15:51.840
If you really need it and it's really gonna help you, then take it.
00:15:52.000 --> 00:15:55.759
I don't exactly know why I was so anti-edicine.
00:15:55.840 --> 00:15:57.600
I just wanted to be able to do it myself.
00:15:58.080 --> 00:16:08.159
Or as I started to grow my relationship with God, I almost felt like it makes me a bad Christian if I'm not leaning on God and I'm leaning on antidepressants.
00:16:08.240 --> 00:16:10.879
And I just had all these mixed feelings along the way.
00:16:10.960 --> 00:16:14.240
But I would say I was wrong on all of those.
00:16:15.360 --> 00:16:17.120
Yeah, and so it helped you.
00:16:17.279 --> 00:16:18.159
That's what I'm asking.
00:16:18.320 --> 00:16:18.879
It helped you.
00:16:19.120 --> 00:16:25.360
And sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't, and some people stay on it and there's no guilt trip out or no shame.
00:16:25.440 --> 00:16:29.120
And there's other people that don't, they get off it and they don't, they just don't need it anymore.
00:16:29.279 --> 00:16:32.559
But the bottom line is if you need it, it's there to help you.
00:16:32.720 --> 00:16:39.120
And I think that's a message for everybody who's listening out there who may be feeling the same way that you were feeling.
00:16:39.360 --> 00:16:47.039
They're embarrassed or feeling guilty, or I don't want anybody to know, or there's no shame in in in that.
00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:49.440
And sometimes we need that to help us.
00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:58.879
But the reason I asked you how you felt about it is because sometimes the psychiatrists or doctors, sometimes that's the first thing they want to do is put people on medication.
00:16:58.960 --> 00:17:04.559
And sometimes that's not always the best route for everybody, but in your case it worked out.
00:17:05.359 --> 00:17:14.319
Yes, and I did definitely drag my fee and I'd start it and stop it until I actually stayed on it and did the protocol, did what you were supposed to do.
00:17:14.559 --> 00:17:15.839
And I do think it helped.
00:17:15.920 --> 00:17:19.440
I think it just helped me not be so up and down-y.
00:17:19.759 --> 00:17:20.400
I still am.
00:17:20.480 --> 00:17:22.480
I'm I'm emotional and I'm good with it.
00:17:22.559 --> 00:17:23.680
I'm good being emotional.
00:17:23.759 --> 00:17:24.559
I'm an empath.
00:17:24.640 --> 00:17:31.200
I have embraced it, but my high highs are always high, my low lows are always low.
00:17:31.440 --> 00:17:35.119
But I guess it helped it not be quite so low.
00:17:35.680 --> 00:17:39.200
And what's cool about yeah, of course it does.
00:17:39.279 --> 00:17:55.519
And but what's great about this is yet you here you are helping other people, and I think that is so great, is that we don't have to be perfect, we don't have to have it all together.
00:17:55.680 --> 00:17:58.240
I certainly I don't like being called a parent expert.
00:17:58.400 --> 00:17:59.839
Other people call me that.
00:18:00.079 --> 00:18:04.880
I don't look at myself as a parent expert because I am not perfect.
00:18:05.039 --> 00:18:13.920
I st I still make mistakes this many years as a grandparent, as a great grandparent, all our children are adults.
00:18:14.480 --> 00:18:16.000
I still make mistakes.
00:18:16.240 --> 00:18:24.240
Sometimes we have our we still have arguments, we still get upset with each other, or things get done or said that you don't agree with or whatever.
00:18:24.480 --> 00:18:29.839
But that doesn't mean that disqualifies me from trying to help other people.
00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:32.640
And again, I uh and I'm sure you're the same.
00:18:33.039 --> 00:18:37.680
I'm not asking people to do anything that I don't do.
00:18:38.000 --> 00:18:43.039
And I am first to admit that I'm don't have it all together.
00:18:43.119 --> 00:18:47.599
That's not what, that's not why I teach what I teach or write the books I've written.
00:18:47.839 --> 00:18:55.279
I'm sharing from my experience, and I'm not perfect, but I'm better than who I used to be.
00:18:55.440 --> 00:19:02.079
I know that, and I'm constantly growing and I'm constantly getting better, but we all fail here and there.
00:19:02.160 --> 00:19:12.319
But I just love the fact that even though you're still struggling here and there, and you said you have highs and you have lows, you're still helping people, and that's great.
00:19:12.960 --> 00:19:18.400
Yeah, and I think imposter syndrome where you feel like, who am I?
00:19:18.559 --> 00:19:19.359
Why should I?
00:19:19.519 --> 00:19:20.319
I do get that.
00:19:20.400 --> 00:19:33.119
That does creep in, but I just I recognize it as Satan, and I'm like, God called me to do this, God told me to do this, and I am not trying to help the women who are where I'm at.
00:19:33.279 --> 00:19:36.880
I'm trying to help the women that are where I was six years ago.
00:19:37.039 --> 00:19:37.359
Yeah.
00:19:37.599 --> 00:19:45.440
So I can't I can't help people ahead of me or on the same page as me, but I can help the women that are a few chapters behind me.
00:19:45.759 --> 00:19:51.519
Yeah, that's it's true that we cannot take people to a level that we're not at.
00:19:51.920 --> 00:19:58.640
And that's why we have to live what we teach, because we know I'm not going to be asking people to do something that I don't do.
00:19:58.880 --> 00:20:09.279
And I know that I can't take people to a higher level where than where I'm at, but I'm not at the same level as I was five years ago or 10 years ago, or hopefully even last year.
00:20:09.599 --> 00:20:12.880
But I want Bethany Rose, talk about this.
00:20:13.279 --> 00:20:16.880
Let me read it again, the nervous system regulation.
00:20:17.279 --> 00:20:20.240
What is that and how are you addressing that?
00:20:21.440 --> 00:20:24.880
So it came from all of my experience.
00:20:25.200 --> 00:20:29.039
And I am not a therapist, so it is not therapy.
00:20:29.119 --> 00:20:34.799
And if I feel like that is something that you need, I would just advise you to it instead of me.
00:20:35.200 --> 00:20:45.920
But I have learned a lot about the nervous system along the way because all of that anxiety, all that panic stems back to the nervous system.
00:20:46.559 --> 00:20:51.519
And yeah, there's experiences and strongholds and all that kind of stuff that you can work out in therapy.
00:20:51.759 --> 00:20:58.400
But there are ways to calm your nervous system, there are ways to recognize that your nervous system is out of whack.
00:20:58.640 --> 00:21:05.359
And when it's dysregulated, that's often what people refer to as fight or flight mode, which we recognize what that is.
00:21:05.440 --> 00:21:07.839
We recognize that's when we're in danger.
00:21:08.000 --> 00:21:14.160
So if we saw a bear, we would instantly go into fight or flight mode because we would need to survive.
00:21:14.480 --> 00:21:17.039
And so that's the only thing your body's thinking about.
00:21:17.200 --> 00:21:28.240
It's not thinking about rest and digest, which is the opposite mode, because we don't care if you're digesting your food, we don't care if you're getting a good night's sleep, we care about getting away from this bear and surrender.
00:21:28.400 --> 00:21:34.960
And when you live that way, which I did for a long time.
00:21:35.759 --> 00:21:47.279
And as the moms with young kids or as parents in general, I think the stress and pressures of parenting can often kick you into that mode.
00:21:47.599 --> 00:21:51.680
So you can still live in that mode, even when your world's not crashing around.
00:21:52.160 --> 00:21:56.960
But that mode is supposed to last just a little bit to protect us, and then we come back out of it.
00:21:57.039 --> 00:21:59.759
And when we don't come back out of it, and our body just stays in it.
00:22:00.240 --> 00:22:04.079
It actually does so much to our body to stay in it long term.
00:22:04.480 --> 00:22:06.880
It messes with your immune system.
00:22:07.039 --> 00:22:16.319
It messes with your brain chemistry, your body itself, your physical body, the joints and your exhaustion and your sleep.
00:22:16.799 --> 00:22:19.599
It it really affects everything to just stay in that.
00:22:19.759 --> 00:22:22.319
So that's it being dysregulated.
00:22:22.400 --> 00:22:28.000
And what I like to help people with and what I like to learn even more about is how to regulate it.
00:22:28.160 --> 00:22:32.799
How do we get out of that survival mode and back into what we call rest and digest mode?
00:22:32.960 --> 00:22:35.119
Which is just normal mode.
00:22:36.240 --> 00:22:38.160
And there are different ways.
00:22:38.319 --> 00:22:40.400
The first step would be recognizing it.
00:22:40.799 --> 00:22:47.359
Just like I told you in my story, I was having all that panic and anxiety, but I didn't realize that's what it was for a long time.
00:22:47.920 --> 00:22:52.960
So the first step is recognizing it and then coming out of it.
00:22:53.119 --> 00:22:56.640
There's different physical tactics I teach.
00:22:56.799 --> 00:23:04.400
One of them, for example, super easy, is just tapping here on your clavicle area.
00:23:04.640 --> 00:23:04.880
Yeah.
00:23:05.119 --> 00:23:08.640
And that's also they also tap your your hand here.
00:23:09.119 --> 00:23:09.359
Yep.
00:23:09.519 --> 00:23:10.559
And that can bring you out.
00:23:10.640 --> 00:23:12.000
And some of the things seem silly.
00:23:12.160 --> 00:23:14.000
It seems silly, but you can do it.
00:23:14.079 --> 00:23:15.759
You try it, and I bet it will work.
00:23:16.079 --> 00:23:20.240
And it so it's just some physical tactic tactics like that.
00:23:20.400 --> 00:23:21.759
There are a bunch of them.
00:23:22.000 --> 00:23:25.599
But then I also mix it with Jesus.
00:23:26.240 --> 00:23:30.559
Because he is the creator and giver of our peace.
00:23:31.039 --> 00:23:33.279
True peace comes from him and him alone.
00:23:33.519 --> 00:23:35.920
So he did not give us a spirit of anxiety.
00:23:36.079 --> 00:23:40.640
He did not give us a spirit of panic, but he gives peace.
00:23:40.960 --> 00:23:41.839
Or a spirit of faith.
00:23:42.880 --> 00:23:43.519
Yes.
00:23:44.079 --> 00:23:51.599
And we have the scientific neuroscience that, yeah, tapping our clavicle will calm us down.
00:23:51.759 --> 00:23:54.640
But then also let's breathe some scripture into this.
00:23:54.799 --> 00:24:04.640
Let's read about what Jesus says about how I'm feeling right now and bringing those two things together right there where they overlap.
00:24:05.039 --> 00:24:08.480
Yeah, there's a synth synthesizing of those things.
00:24:08.720 --> 00:24:15.119
Do you also you probably talk about deep breathing and meditation or yes, breathing?
00:24:15.200 --> 00:24:15.920
That's a big one.
00:24:16.160 --> 00:24:17.039
I think helps a lot.
00:24:17.119 --> 00:24:19.200
I still do that with myself quite a bit.
00:24:19.519 --> 00:24:23.119
And I I'll it's probably my favorite.
00:24:23.200 --> 00:24:24.240
I think it's the most helpful.
00:24:24.319 --> 00:24:25.359
You want to try it?
00:24:25.680 --> 00:24:26.240
Sure.
00:24:27.039 --> 00:24:27.359
Okay.
00:24:28.000 --> 00:24:33.599
So there's belly breathing, there's box breathing, there's different styles.
00:24:33.839 --> 00:24:40.960
But if we do belly breathing, so when we're just breathing regular, our chest kind of goes up and down.
00:24:41.119 --> 00:24:45.759
But when we're belly breathing, our diaphragm expands and gives us room.
00:24:46.079 --> 00:24:53.519
And for women, it also helps your pelvic floor realign after babies and also helps your nervous system.
00:24:53.759 --> 00:24:55.920
Everything's all connected back to your nervous system.
00:24:56.480 --> 00:24:57.279
That's correct.
00:24:57.440 --> 00:24:57.920
Yes.
00:24:58.400 --> 00:25:02.160
So if you take a deep breath, but expand your belly out.
00:25:02.319 --> 00:25:08.559
So I often put my hand on my stomach and my chest, and I can feel my stomach getting bigger.
00:25:08.960 --> 00:25:16.480
And take a deep breath in, expand your belly, hold it for a second, three seconds, and then exhale hard.
00:25:16.559 --> 00:25:20.079
And when you exhale, concave your stomach.
00:25:20.319 --> 00:25:25.839
So you're like blowing up your stomach with an inhale, and then you're concave your stomach with an exhale.
00:25:26.240 --> 00:25:26.559
Okay.
00:25:27.920 --> 00:25:33.680
And if you do that, I the first few times I did it actually made me lightheaded, and I think that's normal.
00:25:34.880 --> 00:25:37.839
But that often will calm me down quite a bit if I just do that.
00:25:38.079 --> 00:25:42.160
Even it helps me fall asleep if I do it in bed when I before I go to sleep.
00:25:43.680 --> 00:25:50.240
Deep breathing, inspirational reading or scripture, and tapping.
00:25:50.960 --> 00:25:52.640
Talk a little bit more about tapping.
00:25:53.839 --> 00:25:57.519
For some people, that uh it might be a new concept.
00:25:57.680 --> 00:26:01.279
I'm familiar with it, but maybe just talk a little bit more about that.
00:26:02.160 --> 00:26:04.160
It just grounds your body.
00:26:04.480 --> 00:26:08.880
It's almost like a distraction mechanism.
00:26:09.039 --> 00:26:14.720
And you could do it with there's also some with the five senses, five senses.
00:26:15.119 --> 00:26:28.400
So you can look around and say something, say something you smell, say something you feel, and that's the same sense here as your feeling, and it's like drawing your brain to that area.
00:26:28.960 --> 00:26:32.480
And what are some of the different places you tap on your body?
00:26:33.440 --> 00:26:37.279
I know the cloud, the clavicles one, and then the hand.
00:26:37.599 --> 00:26:40.480
I've seen that the hand and this.
00:26:40.880 --> 00:26:49.200
I think it was another maybe the back of the neck or the foot or the head, I forget, but there seemed like there was another.
00:26:49.359 --> 00:26:53.920
I guess people could use whatever works for them.
00:26:54.160 --> 00:27:00.480
Yes, I think finger fingers have a lot of nerves in them, and I think that helps too.
00:27:00.880 --> 00:27:03.599
I personally do my fingers a lot.
00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:05.119
Okay, all right.
00:27:05.200 --> 00:27:07.920
Uh, and it might be the same with feet, but that also might be kind of weird.
00:27:08.079 --> 00:27:10.480
Give yourself a foot rub in the middle of the day.
00:27:11.599 --> 00:27:17.680
So, for those of you hearing, listening out there, that so these if you these are methods you could try.
00:27:17.839 --> 00:27:28.079
If you're I think Bethany Rose, you're talking about anxiety when people are feeling anxious, maybe fearful or nervous.
00:27:28.160 --> 00:27:30.559
So, I guess anxious and nervous are the same thing.
00:27:30.799 --> 00:27:32.480
So, you might try these things.
00:27:32.640 --> 00:28:01.519
Deep breathing is one, tapping is another, and then, or if you can bring yourself to a place where you can focus on some either meditation or scriptural or inspirational reading to get your mind thinking in a better way, because controlling the thoughts of our mind is so important, and what I've learned too from I don't know if you've heard of Dr.
00:28:01.599 --> 00:28:02.720
Joe Dispenza.
00:28:03.200 --> 00:28:04.640
Have you ever heard of him?
00:28:05.200 --> 00:28:05.519
No.
00:28:06.720 --> 00:28:10.880
So he talks about, he has a he has three really great books.
00:28:11.039 --> 00:28:18.000
One of them is called Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, and so he talks about how to go about that.
00:28:18.160 --> 00:28:25.680
But one of the things he talks about is that we have to, our body is the language of feeling, our mind is the language of thought.
00:28:26.000 --> 00:28:31.200
And sometimes we can't allow our feelings to control our thoughts.
00:28:31.519 --> 00:28:42.960
But that's so, in other words, he says the your body becomes the mind, and now you're just being controlled by your feelings, which you and I know that's not what we want.
00:28:44.000 --> 00:28:54.799
But our thoughts also sometimes we can have a negative mindset or negative thoughts that are going around and around, and we we have to take control of that.
00:28:54.880 --> 00:28:57.680
What I teach how to take control of your mind.
00:28:57.920 --> 00:29:00.960
Now, those of you listening, this is an easy.
00:29:01.039 --> 00:29:07.440
I'm I'm not a psychiatrist, and this is a very simple method, but it seems to work, and I do it all the time.
00:29:07.599 --> 00:29:16.319
So I teach first you got to catch the thought, then you got to change the thought, then you have to replace the thought with a positive affirmation.
00:29:17.119 --> 00:29:19.519
So catch, change, replace.
00:29:19.920 --> 00:29:37.039
And that takes practice, but all of what I'm saying, all of you that are listening out there, of what Bethany Rose is teaching, and what I'm saying is helping you to regulate yourself, to bring yourself back to balance, back to center, so that you can be the best version of yourself for your children.
00:29:38.000 --> 00:29:42.400
Yes, yeah, and that is a great method to teach catching.
00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:49.519
I often call them Satan's lies and replacing it with God's truth, but it's the same, yeah, same concept.
00:29:49.680 --> 00:29:52.480
And that's when I'm working with people, what I would do next.
00:29:52.640 --> 00:29:56.720
So we've recognized it, we learned how to regulate your nervous system.
00:29:56.880 --> 00:30:00.400
Now let's learn how to incorporate new patterns in your life.
00:30:00.480 --> 00:30:01.440
Yes, let's work on this.
00:30:01.759 --> 00:30:06.240
Like what you just said, let's practice doing it until it's not so hard for us to do anymore.
00:30:06.480 --> 00:30:12.079
Yeah, all these things take practice and you know, tissue so that it becomes a habit.
00:30:12.400 --> 00:30:24.240
Now, do you have any specific story or somebody you know, not naming anybody, but just somebody that you worked with and they really were really helped?
00:30:24.880 --> 00:30:25.920
Any stories like that?
00:30:26.240 --> 00:30:37.200
The first, just the first thing that comes to my mind is the very first person I helped.
00:30:39.039 --> 00:30:41.759
It's just amazing how God works.
00:30:42.400 --> 00:30:49.759
There's a lot of times when you're trying to help someone that you don't feel adequate, you don't feel like you can.
00:30:50.160 --> 00:30:58.559
And God brought her to me, and she had almost gone through pretty weirdly close to the same thing I had gone through.
00:30:58.799 --> 00:31:08.559
Like mine's I'm gonna say almost a touch dramatic, like married to someone else, and all of this, but it some of the details were so spot on similar.
00:31:08.799 --> 00:31:12.559
And I felt comfortable just helping her.
00:31:12.799 --> 00:31:14.079
God, this is what you want me to do.
00:31:14.240 --> 00:31:49.440
You want me to help women, and I was able to give her books to read and teach her things that I didn't know at the time going through that I wish I knew, and she it's a journey, so it takes some time, but to go through leaving someone and to go through that heartache, you can either let it take you down or you can walk through it with God and just fully like the quicker you give up and lean completely on God, the quicker He can pick you up.
00:31:49.680 --> 00:31:56.319
But if like you're putting your weight down and not letting him pick you up because you're trying to do it all yourself, then it's gonna take longer.
00:31:56.559 --> 00:32:01.440
And she is going through this whole situation with just such grace and leaning on God.
00:32:01.599 --> 00:32:07.359
And I'm gonna say my words, not hers, probably closer to God than she's ever been.
00:32:07.599 --> 00:32:09.119
So that's neat to see.
00:32:09.359 --> 00:32:11.599
Yeah, oh yeah, no, that's great.
00:32:11.920 --> 00:32:14.799
Now, do you have a I know you have a podcast?
00:32:14.880 --> 00:32:19.519
I think if people want to listen to you, it's podcast at Bethany Rose.net.
00:32:19.759 --> 00:32:20.640
Is that correct?
00:32:20.960 --> 00:32:21.680
Flip flop.
00:32:21.839 --> 00:32:25.279
It's Bethany Rose.net backslash podcast.
00:32:25.599 --> 00:32:27.519
Okay, we'll put those in the show notes.
00:32:27.680 --> 00:32:32.799
I think I that I think you sent the coaching, everything's on that too.
00:32:32.960 --> 00:32:36.240
The coaching tab, the tab to get on my email list.
00:32:36.400 --> 00:32:38.079
I have an email I sent out on Thursdays.
00:32:38.319 --> 00:32:41.599
It's kind of okay my brain dump.
00:32:42.000 --> 00:32:42.640
Yeah, okay.
00:32:42.720 --> 00:32:44.720
So we'll put that in the show notes.
00:32:44.960 --> 00:32:47.519
And and but do you have a website?
00:32:47.599 --> 00:32:50.720
Does this a website or is it oh, this is Facebook community?
00:32:50.799 --> 00:32:51.440
I see.
00:32:51.920 --> 00:32:57.440
Yeah, that that is the only website right now, is just Bethany Rose.net backslash podcast.
00:32:57.519 --> 00:32:59.759
And then I do have a Facebook group.
00:33:00.079 --> 00:33:01.039
Okay, okay.
00:33:01.119 --> 00:33:08.000
Well, that'll be like I said, in the show notes for everybody, anybody that wants to listen to Bethany Rose.
00:33:08.079 --> 00:33:13.680
Uh, you can find those in the show notes when we uh this podcast comes out, which will probably be this Thursday.
00:33:13.839 --> 00:33:16.720
The Parent Whisperer podcast comes out every Thursday.
00:33:16.799 --> 00:33:19.200
You can listen on Apple or Spotify.
00:33:19.359 --> 00:33:28.319
Now, is there anything else that I you want me to ask, or anything else you want to share as we close out this this session?
00:33:29.279 --> 00:33:35.279
I didn't think so, but this is just popped in my head, so I'm gonna say it in case it's a god thing.
00:33:35.519 --> 00:33:35.839
Okay.
00:33:36.240 --> 00:33:44.880
That in Ephesians, I was studying Ephesians years ago when I was going through the hardest time.
00:33:46.079 --> 00:33:54.960
And it talks about maturity and growing in Christ and what that looks like.
00:33:55.759 --> 00:34:07.759
And I believe that there is a time for healing, and there is a time when you need to just abide in God, and that might be a time now, and it might also be a time 10 years from now, you need to do it again.
00:34:08.079 --> 00:34:14.559
I believe there are just times when God is calling us to just rest, come to Him and rest.
00:34:14.880 --> 00:34:20.719
But there are other times, like Ephesians talks about, where you get in the game and you play.
00:34:20.880 --> 00:34:25.039
You get up off the bench and you go run the play and you get in and do it.
00:34:25.599 --> 00:34:29.679
And for me, that's what God recently has done.
00:34:29.840 --> 00:34:31.920
It's like, okay, your rest time's over.
00:34:32.239 --> 00:34:33.920
Thank you for finally doing it.
00:34:34.239 --> 00:34:35.039
Now go.
00:34:35.599 --> 00:34:42.559
And and there might be something else that happens in my life, or I might be called to another season of rest sometime soon.
00:34:42.880 --> 00:34:48.480
But right now, I am called for a season of go out there and do it.
00:34:48.880 --> 00:34:49.199
Yeah.
00:34:49.440 --> 00:34:56.400
And just anyone that's listening, whatever season you're being called to, do it.
00:34:56.800 --> 00:35:06.960
If you're listening to this episode and you're relating to my part of the story that was like overwhelmed and anxious and panic, and I needed to rest, then take your season of rest.
00:35:07.199 --> 00:35:07.440
Yeah.
00:35:07.679 --> 00:35:08.079
Take it.
00:35:08.159 --> 00:35:10.320
Let God do his work in you.
00:35:10.639 --> 00:35:21.920
But if you're listening to this and you're like relating to the part of my story where I had a dream about a podcast and I went and did it, even though I didn't know what I was doing, then go.
00:35:22.559 --> 00:35:26.719
Go get in your season of action and go do whatever God's calling you to do.
00:35:26.880 --> 00:35:32.960
He doesn't always give you the whole path, but he gives you the next step and just take that next step, whatever it is.
00:35:33.760 --> 00:35:34.880
That's great advice.
00:35:35.039 --> 00:35:40.159
Because I know a lot of you out there, you're probably like I was scared, nervous.
00:35:40.559 --> 00:35:41.920
Who's gonna listen to me?
00:35:42.079 --> 00:35:43.599
Who are you to write a book?
00:35:43.760 --> 00:35:45.119
Who are you to have a podcast?
00:35:45.280 --> 00:35:47.360
All of those thoughts, those normal.
00:35:47.599 --> 00:35:51.519
But again, if you feel the calling, it might be time to answer it.
00:35:51.679 --> 00:35:54.719
Or as Bethany Rose said, if it's time to rest, then rest.
00:35:54.800 --> 00:35:56.559
But it might be time to go.
00:35:56.960 --> 00:36:00.800
So so for everybody listen again, thank you for the reviews.
00:36:00.960 --> 00:36:04.000
If you have questions, please send your questions.
00:36:04.320 --> 00:36:06.880
And I really appreciate your subscribing.
00:36:07.119 --> 00:36:08.719
Also, I want to give you a heads up.
00:36:08.880 --> 00:36:20.960
My website, normally, so my website, RichardRromels.com, was featuring me as mostly about parenting, parent, parents on a mission.
00:36:21.119 --> 00:36:22.239
So my books are there.
00:36:22.400 --> 00:36:25.440
I had a lot of free resources there for you.
00:36:25.679 --> 00:36:27.679
Also, an online course.
00:36:27.920 --> 00:36:29.679
But I just want to give you a heads up.
00:36:29.760 --> 00:36:46.800
I'm remaking my website so that I'm not pigeonholing myself only as speaking on parenting, because I've developed, I'm not going to get into the whole thing, but I've developed a lot of leaders and I've developed organizations and nonprofits.
00:36:46.880 --> 00:36:48.880
I've founded them, developed them.
00:36:49.119 --> 00:36:51.519
So I want to start speaking to that community.
00:36:51.599 --> 00:36:56.159
And all of it comes together because to me, parenting is the root.
00:36:56.480 --> 00:37:00.239
Because parents, you are the first leaders of your children.
00:37:00.800 --> 00:37:09.760
And our job is to create a culture and an environment where those kids become the best version of themselves.
00:37:10.000 --> 00:37:12.320
But that's the same, it should be at work.
00:37:12.559 --> 00:37:23.599
As the leader, we should be creating a culture and an environment where the people that come, our staff, they're able to flourish and they're able to find their voice.
00:37:23.840 --> 00:37:29.519
And there they feel that they are being used the way their gifts and talents.
00:37:30.400 --> 00:37:32.239
That goes to community leadership.
00:37:32.400 --> 00:37:34.559
So those are my experiences.
00:37:34.639 --> 00:37:44.320
So if you go to my website, Richardrrombles.com, you're going to notice that my website is changing, it's different now, but I'm still the parent whisperer.
00:37:45.280 --> 00:37:48.320
As I last, I didn't give myself that name, okay?
00:37:48.639 --> 00:37:50.159
I said this before.
00:37:50.400 --> 00:37:52.559
Somebody out, a couple of other people call me that.
00:37:52.719 --> 00:37:54.800
So that's why this podcast is called that.
00:37:54.960 --> 00:38:01.920
But I just want you to know that I'm trying to provide as many resources as I can for you.
00:38:02.159 --> 00:38:04.639
This podcast is one of those resources.
00:38:04.960 --> 00:38:06.880
Bethany Rose has her podcast.
00:38:06.960 --> 00:38:11.280
You can go listen to that for more about what she's teaching.
00:38:11.920 --> 00:38:15.360
So I think that that covers everything I wanted to say.
00:38:15.599 --> 00:38:18.239
Bethany Rose, thank you so much for your time.
00:38:18.559 --> 00:38:20.480
Thank you for sharing your story.
00:38:20.639 --> 00:38:25.760
And thank you for sharing the tips that you gave all the moms and dads that are out there.
00:38:26.079 --> 00:38:28.559
You've been listening to the Parent Whisperer podcast.
00:38:28.639 --> 00:38:29.519
I'm Richard Ramos.
00:38:30.079 --> 00:38:36.719
And as I always tell you, mom and dad, parents on a mission is not for bad parents.
00:38:36.880 --> 00:38:40.719
It's for good parents who want to get better.
00:38:41.440 --> 00:38:42.639
Thanks for listening.
