00:00:01.037 --> 00:00:07.357
Hello, my valued listeners. It's Marlene Greenleaf here, and I want to welcome
00:00:07.357 --> 00:00:11.077
you to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:12.437 --> 00:00:16.257
Today, I want to share something deeply personal and important,
00:00:16.537 --> 00:00:24.157
because over the past few weeks, I've experienced some of the most challenging storms in my life.
00:00:25.297 --> 00:00:31.217
My husband recently underwent a kidney transplant, October the 5th.
00:00:31.757 --> 00:00:37.437
And while we had high hopes for a smooth recovery, there have been some complications.
00:00:38.857 --> 00:00:42.657
And on top of that, I recently lost my father.
00:00:44.477 --> 00:00:49.617
It's been an emotional rollercoaster. One that has tested me.
00:00:50.317 --> 00:00:53.277
Yet through it all, I've found peace.
00:00:54.157 --> 00:00:59.457
And today, I want to talk about how we can navigate through life's storms,
00:00:59.997 --> 00:01:07.317
hold on to our peace, and prioritize our well-being, especially when we are caregivers.
00:01:08.777 --> 00:01:13.537
I want to share my journey and some important lessons I've learned along the way.
00:01:14.357 --> 00:01:18.997
And hopefully, you will walk away feeling empowered to live in your power,
00:01:19.157 --> 00:01:21.417
even through your own storms.
00:01:22.617 --> 00:01:28.777
The first thing I want to touch on is faith because in the hardest of times,
00:01:29.477 --> 00:01:32.597
it has been my faith that has kept me steady,
00:01:33.237 --> 00:01:37.797
when my husband was going through surgery and then when complications arose,
00:01:38.437 --> 00:01:46.017
as of today he's back in the hospital again with a high heart rate but I had
00:01:46.017 --> 00:01:50.117
to lean into prayer and into the promises of God,
00:01:51.577 --> 00:01:56.997
Then, again, as I said, as if that wasn't enough, I had to say goodbye to my
00:01:56.997 --> 00:01:58.937
father, who's in Trinidad.
00:01:59.557 --> 00:02:06.097
He was 91 years old, and we had him cremated last Monday.
00:02:08.257 --> 00:02:13.957
In that moment of loss, it could have been easy for me to feel overwhelmed.
00:02:15.157 --> 00:02:21.517
But instead, I found peace. That peace didn't come from the circumstances themselves.
00:02:22.557 --> 00:02:26.457
It came from knowing that God was with me every step of the way,
00:02:26.697 --> 00:02:28.857
even when things seem out of control.
00:02:30.477 --> 00:02:32.937
Sometimes when life throws all
00:02:32.937 --> 00:02:38.837
it can at you, you've got to hold on to something greater than yourself.
00:02:40.117 --> 00:02:46.217
Faith anchors you when the winds of uncertainty are blowing in every direction.
00:02:46.217 --> 00:02:53.657
I realize that no matter what happens, there's a peace that surpasses understanding.
00:02:54.977 --> 00:03:00.517
And I want to encourage you, if you are going through a storm right now,
00:03:00.837 --> 00:03:08.277
whatever it is, I want you to lean into your feet and trust that God's plan is bigger.
00:03:08.277 --> 00:03:11.437
And through it all, you will come out stronger.
00:03:13.337 --> 00:03:19.217
I also want to talk to you about the people who surround you in tough times.
00:03:20.097 --> 00:03:25.077
There's nothing like a storm to reveal who your true friends are.
00:03:25.977 --> 00:03:30.297
I have been blessed to have so many of you offer your prayers,
00:03:30.437 --> 00:03:33.737
your support, and acts of kindness during this time.
00:03:34.077 --> 00:03:35.897
Some people who I thought were
00:03:35.897 --> 00:03:40.417
just acquaintances stepped up and showed love in ways I didn't expect.
00:03:41.197 --> 00:03:46.957
And then there were others I expected to be there, but they weren't. And that's okay.
00:03:48.277 --> 00:03:53.597
Storms have a way of shaking loose what doesn't need to be in your life anymore.
00:03:54.277 --> 00:03:57.877
It's a gift, even though it doesn't always feel like one.
00:03:58.237 --> 00:04:07.337
The lesson here is to cherish the ones who show up for you and don't waste energy on those who don't.
00:04:08.257 --> 00:04:15.557
Sometimes God uses these seasons to remove people from your life To make room for the right ones.
00:04:18.583 --> 00:04:23.983
Now, let's talk about something that I've had to really learn during this season.
00:04:25.763 --> 00:04:31.763
Self-care as a caregiver. When my husband was dealing with the complications
00:04:31.763 --> 00:04:37.223
after his kidney transplant, I found myself trying to do everything there for
00:04:37.223 --> 00:04:40.543
him, to manage the household, to keep everything in order.
00:04:40.543 --> 00:04:47.723
And while caring for him is absolutely a priority, I realized how easy it was
00:04:47.723 --> 00:04:49.443
to lose myself in the process.
00:04:49.963 --> 00:04:57.503
As a caregiver, it's so easy to pour every ounce of yourself into making sure your loved one is okay.
00:04:58.043 --> 00:05:01.003
But you have to remember to take care of yourself too.
00:05:02.063 --> 00:05:05.403
There were moments when I had to remind myself to take a breath,
00:05:05.763 --> 00:05:08.743
to get outside for a walk, to just rest.
00:05:09.583 --> 00:05:13.243
I mean, it's easy to feel guilty for taking time for yourself,
00:05:13.263 --> 00:05:15.743
but self-care isn't selfish.
00:05:16.983 --> 00:05:24.023
It's essential. If you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to take care of anyone else.
00:05:24.623 --> 00:05:29.223
And I want to encourage you, especially my fellow caregivers,
00:05:29.783 --> 00:05:32.183
to prioritize your well-being.
00:05:33.263 --> 00:05:38.583
Find those small moments of peace in the chaos and hold on to them.
00:05:39.443 --> 00:05:42.463
For me, being able to get out every day.
00:05:43.943 --> 00:05:49.803
And walk for at least two to three miles or more.
00:05:50.083 --> 00:05:57.163
That has helped me along the way. That has helped me to find peace in this chaos.
00:05:57.543 --> 00:06:05.623
Walking outside, inhaling that fresh air, watching God's beauty around me.
00:06:06.043 --> 00:06:10.203
That has been my peace in this chaos.
00:06:12.883 --> 00:06:19.263
And that brings me to my next point balancing the demands of work with your personal life,
00:06:20.243 --> 00:06:23.583
I mean so often we put our jobs or
00:06:23.583 --> 00:06:27.483
our responsibilities before ourselves thinking that
00:06:27.483 --> 00:06:31.883
if we just work a little harder or push a little more everything will be okay
00:06:31.883 --> 00:06:38.563
but the truth is dear listeners sometimes you have to take a step back the job
00:06:38.563 --> 00:06:43.903
will still be there But your peace might not if you burn yourself out.
00:06:45.243 --> 00:06:49.203
For me, these past few weeks have been a reminder that work isn't everything.
00:06:49.983 --> 00:06:55.043
There will always be more deadlines, more emails, more meetings.
00:06:55.523 --> 00:07:00.363
But what good is all of that if you lose your peace in the process?
00:07:01.103 --> 00:07:06.503
If it ever gets to a point where your mental and emotional well-being are on the line,
00:07:07.343 --> 00:07:14.743
Hey, it's okay to walk away God will open up other doors And sometimes he closes
00:07:14.743 --> 00:07:19.983
one door So he can give you the opportunity to step into something greater Your
00:07:19.983 --> 00:07:25.763
peace is priceless And no job or responsibility is worth sacrificing for it.
00:07:27.603 --> 00:07:31.923
So as I wrap up today's episode I want to leave you with this,
00:07:33.321 --> 00:07:37.641
Life's storms will come. They will test you.
00:07:37.921 --> 00:07:43.941
They will push you to your limits. But they don't have to take your peace.
00:07:44.461 --> 00:07:50.281
Hold on to your fate. Surround yourself with true support. And never forget
00:07:50.281 --> 00:07:51.501
to take care of yourself.
00:07:51.881 --> 00:07:55.041
Especially when you're the one taking care of others.
00:07:55.581 --> 00:08:03.201
And remember, the job will always be there. But your peace is something worth protecting.
00:08:04.001 --> 00:08:08.121
Trust that God will guide you even if you need to walk away,
00:08:09.221 --> 00:08:18.141
I want to thank all of my supporters for your prayers and acts of kindness during
00:08:18.141 --> 00:08:23.541
this time your love has been a reminder of how blessed I am even in the storm,
00:08:24.141 --> 00:08:30.321
so until next time I want you to live boldly in your power today and if it gets
00:08:30.321 --> 00:08:35.061
tough Just breathe and believe. Trust God.
00:08:36.621 --> 00:08:44.781
You still got the strength to rise. Continue to live in your power.
