ABOUT THIS EPISODE
You'll spend more time picking your next Netflix show than deciding whether to get screened for colon cancer.
Dr. Tabatha just had her own colonoscopy - and she's using it to answer the question so many women ask: do I actually need one, or is a stool test enough? She and Ashlee break down what a colonoscopy does (and doesn't) catch, why colon cancer is rising in younger adults, what actually causes disease in the colon, and how to prep for and recover from the procedure if you need one.
This isn't an anti-screening episode - it's a "screening isn't the same as building health" episode. You'll learn the difference between a colonoscopy and an at-home stool test, when each one makes sense, the real risks and stats behind colon cancer today, and the diet and lifestyle factors that matter far more than any single procedure.

00:00:00.560 --> 00:00:14.800
Tonight, you'll spend more time picking your next Netflix show than you will decide whether or not to do colon cancer screening or breast cancer screening or any of the screening tests.
00:00:15.039 --> 00:00:16.160
That's the truth of it.
00:00:16.239 --> 00:00:21.039
And colon cancer is becoming the second leading cancer killer in this country.
00:00:21.280 --> 00:00:23.039
So let's pay attention today.
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:25.039
We're gonna fix that right now.
00:00:29.920 --> 00:00:35.200
So today we're discussing the body part that nobody wants to discuss at the dinner table.
00:00:35.520 --> 00:00:36.880
Ah, our colons.
00:00:37.200 --> 00:00:38.640
Yes, there it is.
00:00:39.520 --> 00:00:45.759
Yeah, we love to talk about poop, um, but we don't talk about the colon very much.
00:00:46.079 --> 00:00:48.960
In particular, colonoscopies.
00:00:49.280 --> 00:00:52.640
Uh, we're doing this episode because I just had mine.
00:00:52.960 --> 00:00:53.840
Yeah, you did.
00:00:54.159 --> 00:00:56.320
And um, I got the pleasure of taking you.
00:00:56.799 --> 00:00:57.520
Thank you for that.
00:00:57.840 --> 00:01:01.039
But I would argue I didn't actually need a colonoscopy.
00:01:01.520 --> 00:01:11.760
Here's what went down I was having symptoms of heartburn and reflux, or more so a pressure in my chest after eating.
00:01:12.079 --> 00:01:17.840
And when I would stretch my arms out and raise them up, I noticed the pressure would go away.
00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:21.840
So I was thinking, okay, I might have a hiatal hernia, what's going on?
00:01:22.319 --> 00:01:28.959
So I was going to have an EGD done or escephogadroduonoscopy.
00:01:29.040 --> 00:01:29.439
That's a hard word.
00:01:30.159 --> 00:01:31.040
Just say EGD.
00:01:31.200 --> 00:01:32.159
Yeah, EGD.
00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:40.959
Um, but my ex-husband's a gastroenterologist, some of you may know that, and he talked me into getting a colonoscopy in addition.
00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:43.680
Like, just you're 51, he said.
00:01:44.000 --> 00:01:46.959
You are way past do you have to have a colonoscopy.
00:01:47.439 --> 00:01:49.120
He called you old, which was rude.
00:01:49.359 --> 00:01:51.120
Yeah, he did call me old.
00:01:51.439 --> 00:01:55.840
So I gave in, I had the colonoscopy done as well.
00:01:56.159 --> 00:02:00.159
But here's the truth of it my colonoscopy was spick and spin clean.
00:02:00.319 --> 00:02:01.040
Yeah, it was.
00:02:01.280 --> 00:02:03.359
And she, you don't have to have it again.
00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:04.319
So that's wonderful.
00:02:04.480 --> 00:02:12.240
This is a huge blessing, also a testament to everything you've done for your health since you left conventional medicine.
00:02:12.479 --> 00:02:19.599
Yes, I was glad to see that the way that I live is actually showing up in my colonoscopy.
00:02:19.840 --> 00:02:21.919
So that's what we need to talk about.
00:02:22.080 --> 00:02:23.919
Do you need a colonoscopy?
00:02:24.000 --> 00:02:24.960
That's a big deal.
00:02:25.280 --> 00:02:31.520
Um, and I do want to mention like, I did have a stricture in my esophagus and the small hiatal hernia.
00:02:31.599 --> 00:02:33.360
That's why I was having symptoms.
00:02:33.680 --> 00:02:38.240
I have autoimmune diseases, they are under control.
00:02:38.560 --> 00:02:44.879
I keep my inflammation at bay, but those diseases can wreak havoc.
00:02:45.039 --> 00:02:52.800
And one of the things that I've struggled with is my esophagus um creating strictures or being inflamed.
00:02:52.879 --> 00:02:56.479
And so I literally cannot eat gluten ever.
00:02:56.879 --> 00:02:59.759
I just don't do it because it contributes to that.
00:02:59.919 --> 00:03:01.840
But I get a lot of cross-contamination.
00:03:02.000 --> 00:03:05.120
I will say I'm not very diligent on that.
00:03:05.199 --> 00:03:10.080
And I'm gonna start to be now that I've had this procedure, I think that's gonna help.
00:03:10.319 --> 00:03:33.520
Um, but uh another big piece of it is my nervous system needs more regulation because I tend to uh be stuck in sympathetic dominance, fight or flight, and that can cause a lot of stomach acid production and excess stomach acid in the esophagus because it will relax your esophageal sphincter.
00:03:33.919 --> 00:03:41.680
And so it's a complex situation, but there is a time and a place for conventional procedures.
00:03:42.159 --> 00:03:44.879
You know, God gave us a brain, we're using it.
00:03:45.039 --> 00:03:48.400
I'm not counting out these procedures.
00:03:48.560 --> 00:04:03.280
What I'm saying and suggesting today is that it's worth having a conversation and looking realistically at your life and your health to decide what's the best route for you to screen for cancers, right?
00:04:03.439 --> 00:04:10.560
Because sometimes if we go looking for stuff, we find stuff that we don't need to find and then we cause new problems.
00:04:11.039 --> 00:04:11.439
Yeah.
00:04:11.680 --> 00:04:19.120
So I think the the purpose for this episode is because the colonoscopy, there's there's a lot that goes into the prep for that.
00:04:19.279 --> 00:04:22.639
Plus, you have to be under anesthesia, then the post and all the things.
00:04:22.879 --> 00:04:28.720
And so this question comes up a lot for us um in our 40-day program when women are going through there.
00:04:28.879 --> 00:04:33.519
It's like, well, I went to my PCP and they're like, Well, you're 50, you gotta have your colonoscopy.
00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:36.079
Like, all these things are just like, well, you have to do it, you have to do it.
00:04:36.240 --> 00:04:40.720
So our coaches asked, can we create something that I we can send to our clients?
00:04:40.879 --> 00:04:43.040
And so this is why we're creating this episode.
00:04:43.199 --> 00:04:48.639
But we kind of want to get back to um the screening is not the same as building health.
00:04:48.720 --> 00:04:51.040
And so let's unpack that a little bit today.
00:04:51.360 --> 00:04:56.720
Yes, the colonoscopy is a flexible camera that goes in your colon.
00:04:56.800 --> 00:04:58.720
It doesn't look at your small intestines.
00:04:58.959 --> 00:05:09.279
So the small intestine is like as long as a football field, it's a there's a lot of small intestines, and those don't get evaluated, it's only your large intestine.
00:05:09.519 --> 00:05:14.720
And so it's a small section to look for actual disease.
00:05:15.040 --> 00:05:21.120
So we term it as prevention, but that's not really, it's secondary prevention.
00:05:21.279 --> 00:05:28.879
So what's happening is if they do a colonoscopy, they go in there with a camera, they see like a polyp growing, some kind of tumor.
00:05:29.199 --> 00:05:35.040
They can remove that because there's the potential that that polyp can grow into cancer.
00:05:35.199 --> 00:05:39.680
So that's why they call it prevention, because they feel like they're preventing disease.
00:05:39.920 --> 00:05:45.040
But I would love to say, how can we prevent the tumor from growing in the first place?
00:05:45.199 --> 00:05:46.959
How can we prevent the polyps?
00:05:47.040 --> 00:06:07.519
Because your body should not be growing abnormal things: tumors, polyps, skin tags, cysts, all those things that are happening, even though they're benign at the time, they're an indication that your cell's repair process is not happening properly.
00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:12.560
It is being overcome by destruction and growth process.
00:06:12.879 --> 00:06:18.879
So um, the colonoscopy is secondary prevention, it's not actual prevention.
00:06:19.040 --> 00:06:24.079
So that's first and foremost, I think, really important for people to understand.
00:06:24.319 --> 00:06:29.920
Um, it's a great screening tool, but it doesn't replace lifestyle.
00:06:30.240 --> 00:06:37.839
Yeah, we have to kind of dig deep and figure out like what is actually creating an environment where that disease can develop and thrive.
00:06:38.160 --> 00:06:38.480
Yeah.
00:06:38.639 --> 00:06:43.519
So I looked this up because I always want to be giving the most recent statistics.
00:06:43.759 --> 00:06:55.920
The American Cancer Society estimates 158,000 new cases uh in the US and 55,000 new cases in 2026 of colon cancer.
00:06:56.240 --> 00:07:08.079
But here's the thing: even though colon cancer has fallen from its historical peak, like it used to be high, it's coming down, but that's in older adults.
00:07:08.319 --> 00:07:11.920
Younger people are actually getting more colon cancer.
00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:18.399
And so they've went from recommending it at age 50 to 45 because of it.
00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:20.000
And that's really scary.
00:07:20.160 --> 00:07:23.519
Like, why are young people developing cancer?
00:07:23.839 --> 00:07:40.639
So we have to start to look at our a diet, especially our standard American diet, how toxic our world is because smoking has decreased, the overall incidence has decreased, but the increase is happening in younger people.
00:07:40.879 --> 00:07:43.199
So, you guys, it's our diet.
00:07:43.519 --> 00:07:44.079
Yes.
00:07:44.319 --> 00:07:48.560
And ultra-processed food is more than junk food.
00:07:48.639 --> 00:07:50.959
I think we need to unpack that just a little bit.
00:07:51.279 --> 00:07:55.120
Oh my goodness, this could be a whole episode in and of itself.
00:07:55.439 --> 00:08:07.600
I did an episode with a food scientist who was hired to make food so hyper palatable and satiable that you couldn't put it down.
00:08:07.759 --> 00:08:19.360
That's why you finish a bag of Doritos because there is science behind the um point of satisfaction and desire and all of that.
00:08:19.519 --> 00:08:22.720
They know exactly what they're doing to get you to eat those foods.
00:08:22.800 --> 00:08:24.720
But they're, I call those Franken foods.
00:08:24.800 --> 00:08:26.000
They're not real foods.
00:08:26.240 --> 00:08:31.519
They take parts of real foods and they put together to make these franken foods.
00:08:31.680 --> 00:08:41.360
And it's full of toxins and dyes and chemicals and preservatives that are killing your cells and creating disease in your colon.
00:08:41.600 --> 00:08:57.360
So I really want you to understand that I'm never having a colonoscopy again unless something crazy happens, because I know my diet overall is not inducing cancer in my colon.
00:08:57.440 --> 00:08:58.639
That's just what's happening.
00:08:58.879 --> 00:09:10.559
So I don't want women thinking like I got my colonoscopy, I'm good, I don't have to think about things, or my lifestyle is on par, I never have to worry about getting a colonoscopy.
00:09:10.799 --> 00:09:12.799
Either extreme isn't good.
00:09:12.960 --> 00:09:14.879
You know, I'm glad I had it done.
00:09:15.120 --> 00:09:20.720
It verified what I already thought to be true, but now I can breathe easy.
00:09:20.960 --> 00:09:25.840
Having said that, cancers can grow in less than 10 years.
00:09:26.000 --> 00:09:30.399
If you have a clean colonoscopy, the recommendation is to come back in 10 years.
00:09:30.639 --> 00:09:34.960
If you've had polyps removed, it's three to five, depending on the type of polyp.
00:09:35.039 --> 00:09:38.720
And family history can shorten that to every two to three years.
00:09:39.039 --> 00:09:46.159
But your colon is a living dynamic situation.
00:09:46.480 --> 00:09:49.679
There is so much affecting it every single day.
00:09:49.840 --> 00:10:03.200
So every day there's insults happening, creating leaky gut, creating disruption that you can create disease in a shorter amount of time if your diet and lifestyle change.
00:10:03.360 --> 00:10:10.960
So it's really essential to be thinking like, how am I impacting my overall colon health?
00:10:11.120 --> 00:10:16.080
Um, and a small piece we don't even have in the notes is HPV.
00:10:16.159 --> 00:10:23.120
So HPV is the human papillomavirus that causes cervical cancer and abnormal pap smears.
00:10:23.279 --> 00:10:30.399
Um, but that can be transmitted to the rectum and it can be associated with cancer in the colon as well.
00:10:30.639 --> 00:10:36.720
So there's it's multifactorial and there's no one right answer for everybody.
00:10:36.879 --> 00:10:40.799
But it I just want to emphasize the fact that it's a dynamic process.
00:10:40.879 --> 00:10:51.360
So just because you're in the clear today doesn't mean something isn't going to happen in the future that's not going to necessitate a colonoscopy.
00:10:51.519 --> 00:10:56.080
So I think let's talk about the fact that it's a screening tool.
00:10:56.240 --> 00:11:22.559
If you don't have any symptoms and your only issue is like, hey, I'm 45 to 50 years old now, and my doctor's recommending this, if you don't have a first degree family relative, like a parent or a sibling, then you can possibly do a cola guard test, which is, you know, poop test at home, and you send it in and they look for cancer cells, they look for blood in the stool.
00:11:22.879 --> 00:11:37.519
And when we do our GI map stool testing in the functional medicine space, we look for these same, um, some of the same markers, not the uh tumor markers, but we look for calprotectin, which is a measure of inflammation.
00:11:37.600 --> 00:11:50.080
We look for occult blood, and those help us to determine whether you're at high risk for having a polyp in there or cancer growing and whether or not we should refer you to colonoscopy.
00:11:50.240 --> 00:11:51.440
So that would be step one.
00:11:51.600 --> 00:12:01.120
Step two is if you're symptomatic, if you're having irregular bowels, but you feel like it doesn't, it's not justified because your diet is good.
00:12:01.440 --> 00:12:03.840
I would recommend a colonoscopy.
00:12:04.000 --> 00:12:12.399
And especially if you're having mucus in your stool or blood in your stool that's not explained, we have to figure out what the source of that is.
00:12:12.879 --> 00:12:26.559
So, you know, that is a conversation you need to have with your primary care provider or your OBGYN or somebody in the medical space so that you can decide what's right for you.
00:12:26.720 --> 00:12:45.840
Another thing for women, unexplained anemia, especially if you've stopped having periods or if your periods have really lightened up and you continue to have um iron deficiency anemia, you could have a microscopic bleed in the colon that requires this screening process.
00:12:46.080 --> 00:12:51.440
So I am not here to count out a necessary procedure.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:53.600
I just want women to be smart about it.
00:12:53.679 --> 00:12:59.279
And the risks associated with it, the number one uh risk we talk about is perforation.
00:12:59.360 --> 00:13:06.799
So putting a little hole in the colon from the camera or from the instruments that they use, it's really uncommon.
00:13:06.879 --> 00:13:09.759
It's probably one in a thousand people.
00:13:09.919 --> 00:13:14.879
So a standard gastroenterologist probably does 2,000 scopes a year.
00:13:15.039 --> 00:13:17.360
They might have one or two perforations.
00:13:17.759 --> 00:13:31.120
Um, if you have an unhealthy colon, especially if you smoke and you drink alcohol, or if you have inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis, that increases that risk of perforation.
00:13:31.440 --> 00:13:36.639
One note I do want to make I love my general surgeon friends out there.
00:13:37.120 --> 00:13:41.440
They are equipped to do colonoscopies.
00:13:41.759 --> 00:13:45.039
I personally recommend going to a gastroenterologist.
00:13:45.200 --> 00:13:55.200
I would rather have someone who does it all day, every day, than someone who does it a couple times a month because um it is a delicate procedure.
00:13:55.360 --> 00:14:02.320
And that's I say the same thing when it comes to hysterectomies and prolapse surgeries.
00:14:02.639 --> 00:14:06.879
Go to the gynecology surgeon who does it all the time.
00:14:07.039 --> 00:14:12.879
Don't go to the OBGYN who delivers babies most of the time and dabbles in surgery.
00:14:13.039 --> 00:14:27.679
Like that's just as a surgeon, there's a really big difference between a proficient surgeon who does something all of the time and someone who's capable of it, who's trained in it, but who isn't doing it all the time.
00:14:27.840 --> 00:14:44.960
So I just want to put that out there because honestly, I don't have medical insurance and the healthcare share group that I go through to like share my expenses, they tried to put me with a general surgeon for my colonoscopy.
00:14:45.200 --> 00:14:48.159
And most people wouldn't know the difference.
00:14:48.320 --> 00:14:48.639
Right.
00:14:48.799 --> 00:14:50.639
They would just be like, okay.
00:14:50.960 --> 00:14:58.320
Um, and the ones that were available, I was able to talk to my ex-husband about, and he's like, no, no, no, no.
00:14:58.480 --> 00:15:08.559
Because he knows what goes on inside the ORs, he knows the complications that happen and the people the surgeons that he's had to come and rescue and take over the cases.
00:15:08.720 --> 00:15:10.399
And he's like, Absolutely not.
00:15:10.559 --> 00:15:13.039
You need to go to this gastroenterologist.
00:15:13.279 --> 00:15:30.240
And so that's just a little caveat that I wanted to add in there because sometimes we get misguided or we make decisions based on finances, insurance recommendations, and it's not actually the best thing for you.
00:15:30.399 --> 00:15:31.919
So just keep that in mind.
00:15:32.159 --> 00:15:34.159
Okay, so what about the pre and post?
00:15:34.480 --> 00:15:39.120
So you have to, if you let's say you have to get the colonoscopy and you've got to do the prep to start.
00:15:39.360 --> 00:15:41.279
What do you have some tips for them for that?
00:15:41.360 --> 00:15:44.159
And then what about when they are done with the colonoscopy?
00:15:44.399 --> 00:15:47.039
How to come off of letting everything go?
00:15:47.200 --> 00:15:48.720
What are some tips for that?
00:17:16.500 --> 00:17:23.940
Okay, so I really didn't want to do the colonoscopy because I was deathly afraid of the prep, right?
00:17:24.100 --> 00:17:26.819
And I'm a doctor, I know what the prep is about.
00:17:26.900 --> 00:17:36.900
I got the jug, it was about this big, and there's you know, some powder in the bottom of it, and they're like, just fill it up with water, shake it up, and drink the whole thing.
00:17:37.220 --> 00:17:41.700
Um, and I was like, I don't think I drink that much in 24 hours.
00:17:41.860 --> 00:17:44.580
You want me to drink that in like six hours?
00:17:45.059 --> 00:17:48.660
Um, and then you get evacuated.
00:17:48.900 --> 00:17:59.140
So the whole point of it is that it flushes you clean so there's no stool left in your colon so that when they put the camera in, it's clean.
00:17:59.700 --> 00:18:04.180
Um I had a lacrosse game to go to.
00:18:04.259 --> 00:18:06.019
I didn't want to miss that game.
00:18:06.180 --> 00:18:11.380
I was in the middle of the prep and I was thinking, oh my gosh, I need to be near a toilet.
00:18:11.539 --> 00:18:13.539
This is gonna be a mess, it's gonna be crazy.
00:18:13.700 --> 00:18:16.420
But here's the truth of it it wasn't that bad.
00:18:16.580 --> 00:18:18.019
It wasn't bad at all.
00:18:18.259 --> 00:18:26.900
I actually drank half of it, had a regular bowel movement, went to the game, came home, drank the other.
00:18:27.299 --> 00:18:32.580
Um, you drink every a certain amount every hour until you're done.
00:18:33.300 --> 00:18:35.140
I went to the bathroom a few times.
00:18:35.300 --> 00:18:41.300
It wasn't the most comfortable thing, but I've had worse situations like being sick.
00:18:41.860 --> 00:18:48.900
So um I slept probably six hours, woke up, and I went to the procedure.
00:18:49.140 --> 00:18:55.140
So I wasn't nauseous, I didn't throw up, I didn't have all the things that people freak out about.
00:18:55.460 --> 00:19:00.740
I don't, I think we talk it up in our head more than it actually is, honestly.
00:19:00.980 --> 00:19:02.340
I think it's come a long way too.
00:19:02.660 --> 00:19:03.140
It has.
00:19:03.220 --> 00:19:13.540
We really have dialed in um the amount, and honestly, I don't think I drank the bottom fourth of the jug, and I was still completely cleaned out and just fine.
00:19:13.860 --> 00:19:14.100
Yeah.
00:19:14.259 --> 00:19:15.620
Okay, so what about post?
00:19:15.780 --> 00:19:22.180
What are some suggestions that you have from what did you do from what you ate, supplements that you took, and things like that?
00:19:22.580 --> 00:19:31.940
So I definitely took our gut lift after the procedure because those microscopic cells in our colon, they get damaged.
00:19:32.100 --> 00:19:48.100
The little gap junctions that um act like the doors to prevent bad things from going in, they all get broken from the flush that you know I just talked about, the disruption of the microbiome, and then the actual procedure itself.
00:19:48.180 --> 00:20:03.060
I don't think people realize that when the uh doctor puts the camera in the colon, they're constantly also flushing water into the colon to keep the vision and the colon open so that they can see.
00:20:03.380 --> 00:20:17.780
And so there's a lot of mechanical damage that's happening to the cells throughout this procedure, and gut lift will repair those little doors, those little gap junctions a lot quicker than on your own.
00:20:17.940 --> 00:20:28.340
So that can be really helpful to decrease the inflammatory response afterward or developing food sensitivities or chronic issues, that kind of thing.
00:20:28.500 --> 00:20:34.980
Um, and I just took it slow that day, stuff that was easy to digest.
00:20:35.300 --> 00:20:40.020
Um, but honestly, by the next day, I felt back to normal.
00:20:40.820 --> 00:20:46.020
Real quick, I just want to interrupt this conversation for something super important.
00:20:46.980 --> 00:20:57.220
Even though we need to take care of ourselves spiritually, emotionally, and physically, we do have to take care of ourselves at a cellular level.
00:20:57.380 --> 00:21:00.740
And that is why I have my Fast to Face supplement line.
00:21:00.820 --> 00:21:08.820
So let's just take a minute to hear about something that might be the game changer that you need in this season.
00:21:09.140 --> 00:21:14.580
Tell people how you use the gut lift protein powder because I just you're adorable.
00:21:15.700 --> 00:21:18.580
So I make a shake bowl.
00:21:18.740 --> 00:21:28.820
I have made a shake bowl every day for years, and I just simply take my gut lift protein powder, I add canned coconut milk or any other kind of fat to it.
00:21:28.980 --> 00:21:34.980
Um, sometimes I switch up what kind of fat it is, a little bit of water, and I mix it up so it's kind of like a brownie batter.
00:21:35.140 --> 00:21:39.700
Um, and then I will top it with sometimes granola, sometimes nuts, sometimes fruits.
00:21:39.780 --> 00:21:41.220
It just kind of depends on the mood.
00:21:41.380 --> 00:21:46.180
So, what I love about this protein bowl is you can do this at home, but you can also do this.
00:21:46.340 --> 00:21:55.860
So, when I was still in education, um my students could tell you that every day at lunch, I literally walked around with a bowl with my um Gottliff protein powder in it, and I would eat that.
00:21:56.020 --> 00:21:58.660
It was how I would break my fast every day at lunch duty.
00:21:58.820 --> 00:21:59.300
You can do it.
00:21:59.380 --> 00:22:02.660
I would make it straight up in my office with just a little bit of water and I would go.
00:22:02.820 --> 00:22:06.180
I take it to my son's sports games, I pour water in it on the go.
00:22:06.340 --> 00:22:08.500
Tabitha knows I do it when we travel.
00:22:08.740 --> 00:22:15.700
So it is it is just really crucial, and I like the way that it makes me feel, and it's a really nice meal.
00:22:15.940 --> 00:22:27.460
A lot of times, if we're going to a party or maybe we're going to a dinner where I'm kind of skeptical that I'm gonna be able to eat anything, being gluten-free, I will have this before I walk out the door just to get that protein in.
00:22:27.620 --> 00:22:30.020
So it is a powerful supplement.
00:22:30.340 --> 00:22:32.660
And I love it because it's not cold.
00:22:32.820 --> 00:22:37.780
Like, I don't like drinking shakes, they make me cold with my thyroid issue.
00:22:37.860 --> 00:22:39.220
Like, I just don't tolerate that.
00:22:39.460 --> 00:22:47.540
Neither one of us are shake people, and that's that's like the first thing that people will say when I I'm like so excited, you're on gut-lift protein powder, and they're like, I hate shakes.
00:22:47.620 --> 00:22:48.740
I'm like, that's great.
00:22:48.900 --> 00:22:50.580
Let me tell you about the shake bowl.
00:22:51.540 --> 00:22:54.020
So, yeah, this is a really awesome product.
00:22:54.259 --> 00:23:00.660
But you can just drink it with almond milk or like it's so versatile, but and by all means be a shake person.
00:23:00.820 --> 00:23:01.860
We're we're just not.
00:23:02.100 --> 00:23:02.420
Yeah.
00:23:02.660 --> 00:23:05.540
So this is the product I talked about in the last episode.
00:23:05.700 --> 00:23:17.300
It was like how I met you and it got my bowels moving regularly, but there's so much more in there because it's not just a protein powder, it's an anti inflammatory powder.
00:23:17.620 --> 00:23:19.780
This is this is one of my favorite products too.
00:23:19.940 --> 00:23:21.780
It's so impactful so quickly.
00:23:21.940 --> 00:23:28.580
I mean, if you are a person who struggles with IBS, whether that's kind Or diarrhea.
00:23:28.740 --> 00:23:34.980
If you feel like you get kind of bloated, if you just kind of feel like you get it's a little bit just painful, my goodness.
00:23:35.220 --> 00:23:39.380
This definitely would be the product for you because you you do feel so different so quickly.
00:23:39.460 --> 00:23:40.980
I always take it when I travel.
00:23:41.140 --> 00:23:45.620
I'm like, I gotta have some anti-inflammatories in here because you don't know what you're gonna be consuming.
00:23:45.780 --> 00:23:46.020
Yeah.
00:23:46.340 --> 00:23:52.100
The the beauty of this is I really actually refer to this as a medical food because that's actually really what it is.
00:23:52.820 --> 00:23:56.500
Now, is there are there 19 grams of protein, organic brown rice?
00:23:56.740 --> 00:23:57.380
Absolutely.
00:23:57.700 --> 00:24:00.500
It's easy to digest, and you that's a great amount of protein.
00:24:00.580 --> 00:24:05.060
I mean, as women, oh my goodness, we need a lot of protein to keep our muscles rocking and rolling.
00:24:05.220 --> 00:24:10.900
Well, when you can give your body protein, but all these other nutrients just to help support your gut.
00:24:11.060 --> 00:24:14.180
I mean, it's just a game changer for people and it tastes really good.
00:24:14.340 --> 00:24:15.700
Like it's delicious flavor.
00:24:15.860 --> 00:24:20.660
And we have three flavors strawberry, um, chocolate mint, and vanilla chai.
00:24:20.900 --> 00:24:22.500
I just keep all three around.
00:24:22.740 --> 00:24:23.860
I like to mix it up.
00:24:24.020 --> 00:24:28.259
Like I said, I like vanilla chai and hot water, like pretending it's a latte.
00:24:28.740 --> 00:24:33.460
Chocolate mint is fabulous in a shake bowl with some nuts and berries.
00:24:33.620 --> 00:24:41.620
Strawberry, I think, is great if you do want to do a shake or just drink it straight, you know, with I I like the strawberry in the summer.
00:24:41.700 --> 00:24:45.940
I feel like I do vanilla chai more in the winter, and I feel like strawberry just seems more summery.
00:24:46.100 --> 00:24:52.820
Um, and then I wanted to just make sure that it was clear that our vanilla chai is our pea protein.
00:24:52.980 --> 00:24:55.860
So the other two are rice, a rice blend.
00:24:59.380 --> 00:25:06.340
So I think what I'm hearing is the call to action from this episode is a lot bigger than just book a colonoscopy.
00:25:06.420 --> 00:25:08.820
There's some stuff that you've got to do beforehand.
00:25:09.460 --> 00:25:10.180
Absolutely.
00:25:10.340 --> 00:25:18.180
You need to stop outsourcing your health to some procedure, you know, and we talk about that when it comes to breast health and mammograms.
00:25:18.340 --> 00:25:21.060
Like you have to live a healthy lifestyle.
00:25:21.140 --> 00:25:24.340
That is the only way to actually prevent disease.
00:25:24.580 --> 00:25:31.620
You still can't guarantee you're gonna prevent it because there's so much in the environment that is affecting our health genetics.
00:25:32.980 --> 00:25:37.220
Absolutely, but the genes don't get turned on unless we activate them.
00:25:37.300 --> 00:25:42.180
And diet is a key component of turning on bad genes.
00:25:42.420 --> 00:25:53.860
So that is what I would prescribe is like evaluate your diet, take a look at what you're putting in your colon to see if it actually helpful or harming it.
00:25:54.100 --> 00:25:56.580
So that is what I would say.
00:25:56.980 --> 00:26:08.100
And I just want to close with Proverbs 426, because the truth is the Bible has the answer for everything, it really does.
00:26:08.500 --> 00:26:16.820
Proverbs says, give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
00:26:17.140 --> 00:26:28.740
So to me, what I hear is pay attention to your diet, and if most of the time you're eating healthy, your path is going to lead toward health.
00:26:28.980 --> 00:26:41.060
You know, if the majority of the time your path is full of fast food and processed foods and soda pop, you're not on the path to health, you're on the path to disease.
00:26:41.220 --> 00:26:49.700
And so uh you really have way more uh self-responsibility in all of this.
00:26:49.860 --> 00:26:53.060
We have to stop outsourcing our health to our doctors.
00:26:53.220 --> 00:26:56.500
The the screening colonoscopy is not gonna save you.
00:26:56.820 --> 00:26:57.220
Yeah.
00:26:57.460 --> 00:27:04.259
I think something just hit me, and you kind of said it earlier about how if you get a colonoscopy, a lot can happen in 10 years.
00:27:04.340 --> 00:27:15.540
So let's say you get a colonoscopy and everything looks great, and maybe you're just lucky and you have been eating like garbage, it doesn't mean that for the next 10 years, if you continue to eat like garbage, it's gonna change anything.
00:27:15.700 --> 00:27:18.420
Like or it could change, like you could potentially get cancer.
00:27:18.580 --> 00:27:23.700
So I think it's really about just looking at what you're eating and what you're consuming every single day.
00:27:24.020 --> 00:27:26.180
Oh, gosh, that's a really important point.
00:27:26.340 --> 00:27:34.740
Before we go, I want to talk about that because menopause is this big transition in a women's health span.
00:27:34.980 --> 00:27:44.660
So when that estrogen goes away, even if you are on replacement levels, you're still never getting the same amount that you had before menopause.
00:27:44.820 --> 00:27:52.340
And so your immune system reacts differently, your cardiovascular system, all your systems, they act different.
00:27:52.500 --> 00:27:55.780
You are like a different person after menopause.
00:27:55.860 --> 00:28:00.259
And so what we see is autoimmune disease pop up out of nowhere.
00:28:00.420 --> 00:28:03.060
I've never had Hashimoto's and now I have it.
00:28:03.380 --> 00:28:06.020
I've never had celiac, now I have it.
00:28:06.180 --> 00:28:09.700
Um, heart disease rises drastically.
00:28:09.940 --> 00:28:19.380
The risk of insulin resistance and developing diabetes, having a heart attack and stroke, which is actually the number one killer of menopausal women.
00:28:19.700 --> 00:28:21.060
These things happen.
00:28:21.220 --> 00:28:26.740
And so your colon health changes after menopause, absolutely.
00:28:26.980 --> 00:28:32.500
So this is a dynamic, ongoing journey until your last day.
00:28:32.740 --> 00:28:47.300
There's no um end-all be all answer, and I probably shouldn't have said I'll never have a colonoscopy again, but I do like to speak life over myself so that I do say those words doesn't mean I'll never have it again.
00:28:47.460 --> 00:28:52.980
I will absolutely, if I have symptoms or if my circumstances change.
00:28:53.540 --> 00:28:54.420
Absolutely.
00:28:55.140 --> 00:28:58.500
I think it's just all about educating yourself and making good choices.
00:28:58.740 --> 00:28:58.980
Yeah.
00:28:59.140 --> 00:29:00.100
So go out there.
00:29:00.180 --> 00:29:04.100
I would meditate on Proverbs 426 this week.
00:29:04.580 --> 00:29:07.380
See what are you laying your path with?
00:29:07.700 --> 00:29:11.140
What are you putting at your feet every day?
00:29:11.300 --> 00:29:13.540
What is guiding your decisions?
00:29:13.780 --> 00:29:15.780
Be steadfast with your health.
00:29:16.180 --> 00:29:18.180
Consistency creates change.
00:29:18.420 --> 00:29:21.220
Consistency is where the healing is at.
00:29:21.460 --> 00:29:22.820
So we love you.
00:29:22.980 --> 00:29:24.180
We want the best for you.
00:29:24.340 --> 00:29:31.380
Please let us know if you have questions or if you um are more confused about colonoscopy after this.
00:29:31.540 --> 00:29:37.060
We want to tackle this with you because an informed decision is better than no decision.
00:29:37.220 --> 00:29:38.259
We'll see you next week.
00:29:38.500 --> 00:29:39.940
Have a good week, ladies.
00:29:44.980 --> 00:29:49.460
If you like that episode, I have one favor to ask, maybe two.
00:29:49.780 --> 00:29:53.620
Can you hit subscribe and give me a heart?
00:29:53.780 --> 00:30:01.380
I want Apple to know that this is important information to you because when we tell them that, you will get more of it.
00:30:01.540 --> 00:30:03.220
So use your voice.
00:30:03.380 --> 00:30:08.259
Hit subscribe, hit the like button, share with a friend.
00:30:08.500 --> 00:30:13.860
And the other thing, I want you to download the five day challenge and get started on it.
00:30:14.020 --> 00:30:15.540
Take imperfect action.
00:30:15.700 --> 00:30:17.940
I will see you in the Fast Faith Sisterhood.
00:30:18.020 --> 00:30:19.060
Till next time.
