WEBVTT
00:00:04.881 -->
00:00:11.121Well, hello, my valued listeners, and welcome back to another episode of Living in Your Power.
00:00:11.713 -->
00:00:17.027I'm your host, Dr. Marlene Greenleaf, and as always, I am truly grateful that
00:00:17.027 -->
00:00:19.713you have chosen to spend this time with me today.
00:00:20.566 -->
00:00:28.777Now, as we continue our June series, Freedom to Flourish, Growing into What
00:00:28.777 -->
00:00:34.324God Has Planted, We're exploring another important part of growth today.
00:00:35.357 -->
00:00:39.014One that many of us don't naturally embrace.
00:00:40.158 -->
00:00:42.007Because while we all enjoy the
00:00:42.007 -->
00:00:49.138idea of flourishing, few of us enjoy the process that often precedes it.
00:00:50.183 -->
00:00:58.239And today's episode, the second in our June series, is entitled, Pruning for Growth.
00:01:00.881 -->
00:01:06.506Now, when we think about growth, we often think about addition,
00:01:07.058 -->
00:01:14.546like more opportunities, more success, more visibility, more blessings.
00:01:15.382 -->
00:01:20.397But sometimes, growth happens through subtraction.
00:01:20.995 -->
00:01:25.488Sometimes, growth requires letting go.
00:01:27.224 -->
00:01:33.383Letting go of habits that no longer serve us Letting go of relationships that
00:01:33.383 -->
00:01:41.528have run their course Letting go of old beliefs that keep us small And sometimes,
00:01:42.120 -->
00:01:43.379if we're being honest,
00:01:44.175 -->
00:01:54.206letting go can feel like loss Especially when we've grown attached to what we're being asked to release,
00:01:55.744 -->
00:01:59.626I mean, we may know something isn't serving us anymore,
00:02:00.236 -->
00:02:03.603and we may recognize it's time for a change.
00:02:03.603 -->
00:02:08.345Yet, part of us still wants to hold on. Why?
00:02:09.425 -->
00:02:16.977Because familiar, even when it's uncomfortable, can feel safer than the unknown.
00:02:20.623 -->
00:02:27.975Now, John 15, 2, the King James Version, it says, Every branch in me that bared
00:02:27.975 -->
00:02:33.440fruit, he purged it, that it may bring forth fruit.
00:02:36.134 -->
00:02:43.415Now, I find that scripture fascinating. I mean, notice that the branch being
00:02:43.415 -->
00:02:45.277pruned is already bearing fruit.
00:02:46.711 -->
00:02:53.166It's already producing. It's already growing. But yet, it is still pruned.
00:02:55.039 -->
00:02:55.596Why?
00:02:58.504 -->
00:03:06.056Because the goal isn't merely fruit, dear listeners. The goal is greater fruit.
00:03:07.949 -->
00:03:13.057Sometimes we assume that if something is working, it should never change.
00:03:14.404 -->
00:03:18.380But God often sees potential we cannot yet see.
00:03:19.274 -->
00:03:27.075He sees where we are and he sets where we are capable of going so pruning is
00:03:27.075 -->
00:03:32.672not punishment pruning is preparation,
00:03:34.466 -->
00:03:35.122yes,
00:03:37.067 -->
00:03:42.625so one of the hardest part i think of pruning is that we don't always understand
00:03:42.625 -->
00:03:44.131it while it's happening.
00:03:45.606 -->
00:03:50.337I mean, we ask questions like, why now? Why this?
00:03:51.248 -->
00:03:53.761Why does it feel like something is being removed?
00:03:55.821 -->
00:04:02.615And yet, when we look back over our lives, many of us can identify moments that
00:04:02.615 -->
00:04:08.511initially felt painful, but ultimately positioned us for growth.
00:04:11.239 -->
00:04:15.111A closed door that led to a better opportunity.
00:04:15.959 -->
00:04:20.046I mean, a difficult season that strengthened our fate.
00:04:20.783 -->
00:04:24.899Or a change we resisted that eventually became a blessing.
00:04:25.943 -->
00:04:29.473In the moment, pruning can feel disruptive.
00:04:30.854 -->
00:04:37.524But in hindsight, it often reveals itself as divine preparation.
00:04:38.651 -->
00:04:42.952And perhaps, perhaps that's the invitation today.
00:04:44.833 -->
00:04:49.198To trust that not everything being removed is being taken away.
00:04:51.025 -->
00:04:56.952Some things are simply making room. Making room for growth.
00:04:57.934 -->
00:04:59.971Making room for peace.
00:05:01.196 -->
00:05:03.918Making room for purchase.
00:05:07.134 -->
00:05:15.645Now let's return to that powerful phrase That says That it may bring forth more fruit,
00:05:17.225 -->
00:05:25.176See, it's not saying less It's saying more That it may bring forth more fruit,
00:05:28.021 -->
00:05:34.305The pruning has a purpose And the release has a reason, dear listeners because
00:05:34.305 -->
00:05:36.601the transition has meaning.
00:05:39.972 -->
00:05:44.866So, for your empowerment prompt this week, I want you to take a few moments
00:05:44.988 -->
00:05:48.494this week and reflect on these questions.
00:05:50.693 -->
00:05:54.158What might God be asking me to release in this season?
00:05:56.324 -->
00:06:00.677Is there something I've outgrown but continue to hold on to?
00:06:02.698 -->
00:06:08.294What would change if I viewed pruning as preparation instead of loss?
00:06:10.151 -->
00:06:15.381And how might making space create room for greater growth,
00:06:17.448 -->
00:06:19.172and I will repeat those for you.
00:06:22.912 -->
00:06:28.885Reflect on these. What might God be asking me to release in this season?
00:06:31.317 -->
00:06:35.723Is there something I've outgrown but continue to hold on to?
00:06:37.946 -->
00:06:43.664What would change if I viewed pruning as preparation instead of loss?
00:06:45.510 -->
00:06:50.373And how might making space create room for greater growth?
00:06:52.207 -->
00:06:57.942I want you to remember that flourishing often requires room to grow.
00:06:58.709 -->
00:07:03.666And room is often created through release.
00:07:06.627 -->
00:07:12.131So in closing, my dear listeners, I want you to remember that growth is not
00:07:12.131 -->
00:07:13.999always about adding more.
00:07:15.468 -->
00:07:20.315Sometimes it's about releasing what no longer belongs.
00:07:21.557 -->
00:07:26.172I want you to trust the process. And trust the pruning.
00:07:27.693 -->
00:07:34.578And know that you have to trust what God is cultivating in your life.
00:07:35.030 -->
00:07:39.744Because it is worth the discomfort of change.
00:07:40.812 -->
00:07:45.966Because what is being prepared may be greater. Than what is being released.
00:07:49.008 -->
00:07:55.422So I want to thank you for joining me. For episode 2 of our June series. Freedom to flourish.
00:07:56.171 -->
00:08:00.919Growing into what has planted. Growing into what God has planted.
00:08:01.529 -->
00:08:04.135And next week. We'll continue our journey.
00:08:04.838 -->
00:08:07.444With bloom where you are.
00:08:08.524 -->
00:08:10.544So until next time your listeners.
00:08:25.849 -->
00:08:36.754Got the strength to rise. So I'll see you next time and continue to live in your power.
