Welcome to the Wellness Dentist Podcast.
00:00:30.160 --> 00:00:30.719
Hi, I'm Dr.
00:00:30.800 --> 00:00:40.880
Katie Toe, and it's my huge honor to have not only my mentor, my partner, my best friend, my CE, partner and Crum.
00:00:41.200 --> 00:00:42.719
We always go CE together.
00:00:42.880 --> 00:00:46.960
So much that her husband was like, Why are you guys really taking CE just having a girl trip?
00:00:47.759 --> 00:00:48.079
Dr.
00:00:48.240 --> 00:00:53.520
Teresa Scott, she's here with us to share so much information about biological dentistry.
00:00:53.600 --> 00:00:55.920
And I'm telling you, get some tissues out.
00:00:56.079 --> 00:01:01.119
Her story is emotional and true story and survival story.
00:01:01.200 --> 00:01:05.519
And I love always listening to a story so many times, but this time she's gonna share that with us.
00:01:05.680 --> 00:01:06.000
Dr.
00:01:06.079 --> 00:01:12.239
Teresa, can you share with us a little bit about yourself and how did you find biological dentistry?
00:01:12.640 --> 00:01:15.359
So for me, I'm Teresa Scott.
00:01:15.680 --> 00:01:24.799
I started down the biological route because when my daughter was born, my youngest, she was allergic to every single commercial formula out there, and I was unable to breastfeed it.
00:01:24.879 --> 00:01:29.680
I was already really, really sick at the time and didn't experience anything getting any better for me.
00:01:29.840 --> 00:01:32.799
Conventional medicine has really failed me in the worst ways.
00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:38.400
So anyway, when she was born, she was seven weeks early, allergic to every single commercial formula out there.
00:01:38.640 --> 00:01:48.319
And she, you know, she was projectile vomiting, and the doctor was like, okay, we need to put her on the neutramogen, the broken down protein formula, and acid reflux medicine.
00:01:48.480 --> 00:01:55.599
And there was something inside of me that basically said, you know what, I'm not gonna put her on the pharmaceutical train.
00:01:55.680 --> 00:01:56.879
This stops now.
00:01:57.120 --> 00:02:02.159
And so I did some research and found the Weston Price Foundation, the homemade baby formula.
00:02:02.239 --> 00:02:10.639
And of course, you know, the pediatrician was having a bird because she said, you know, oh my gosh, that's gonna cause intestinal bleeding, et cetera.
00:02:10.879 --> 00:02:20.000
And I was like, wait a minute, babies have been born for thousands upon thousands of years, and formulas only been around for about 80.
00:02:20.560 --> 00:02:25.360
And so they've survived, and they didn't always have wet nurses, you know.
00:02:25.520 --> 00:02:26.879
So how did they survive?
00:02:27.199 --> 00:02:27.520
Right.
00:02:27.840 --> 00:02:30.800
So I did a whole ton of research, found the Weston Price Foundation.
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:36.560
It turns out Weston Price was the father, is he's considered the father of biological dentistry, right?
00:02:36.639 --> 00:02:36.879
Yes.
00:02:37.039 --> 00:02:42.000
And what it is, is the guy was a total geek, an absolute geek.
00:02:42.159 --> 00:02:48.400
And he loved studying anthropology and he loved trying to figure out the why of things.
00:02:48.479 --> 00:03:02.319
And so because he was such a strong anthropologist in his avocation, because his vocation was dentistry, he studied the 14 longest-lived societies on the planet to find out what they had in common.
00:03:02.560 --> 00:03:17.919
And he found out that basically what they had in common was a diet that was rich in saturated fats, rich in probiotic foods, there was nothing processed, and their diets were really relatively low in sugar.
00:03:18.080 --> 00:03:22.400
So basically the opposite of our modern diet.
00:03:22.960 --> 00:03:24.719
And so he took pictures of all of them.
00:03:24.800 --> 00:03:40.879
They all had broad, wide faces, big smiles, straight teeth, pearly white, no real issues, and no heart disease, no diabetes, no nothing that, like even back then, 100 years ago, they knew people had heart problems and they had blood sugar problems, et cetera.
00:03:41.039 --> 00:03:43.280
They had none of the modern diseases.
00:03:43.520 --> 00:03:47.360
And so at that point, that's what I first discovered about him.
00:03:47.599 --> 00:03:55.680
Well, in that learning about him, I learned about the Weston Price Foundation run by Sally Fallon Morel, right?
00:03:56.159 --> 00:04:02.000
And she had a recipe for homemade baby formula made with raw cow's milk.
00:04:02.159 --> 00:04:16.000
Now, there's three different recipes raw cow's milk one, the raw goat's milk one, and then for people who truly, truly have a Casey and allergy, Casein protein allergy, they have a bone broth-based one, a broth-based one.
00:04:16.160 --> 00:04:21.759
So there are recipes for even those children who have that true allergy.
00:04:22.079 --> 00:04:23.920
But anyway, I discovered it.
00:04:24.079 --> 00:04:33.199
We found the raw milk formula, and from about the second month of her life, my daughter, we put her on it, and it was like she thrived.
00:04:33.360 --> 00:04:36.319
The second we put her on every other commercial formula, right?
00:04:36.480 --> 00:04:37.439
It was automatic.
00:04:37.519 --> 00:04:39.680
It hit her stomach and projectile vomiting.
00:04:40.079 --> 00:04:45.680
And then we gave her the baby form, the homemade baby formula, and it was like, okay, life is good now.
00:04:46.079 --> 00:04:47.920
You know, she did really well with it.
00:04:48.079 --> 00:05:02.720
So that was kind of what started me on the down the crunchy granola path, you know, and it took me three years of studying personal crunchy granola stuff, realizing, wait a minute, if that's the case, then why not this?
00:05:02.879 --> 00:05:04.319
If that's the case, then why not this?
00:05:04.480 --> 00:05:05.759
If that's the case, then why not this?
00:05:05.839 --> 00:05:09.120
And so three years of that, I went into essential oils.
00:05:09.279 --> 00:05:20.560
My health started to improve a little bit, but what I noticed most was my children's health was dramatically different than what it had been prior.
00:05:20.879 --> 00:05:33.519
And so at that point, I was like, okay, the more I learned, the more I realized I don't think I can practice dentistry anymore the way I have been, because I think I'm hurting my patients.
00:05:33.920 --> 00:05:39.439
And that was a biggie for me because I didn't go into this to hurt my patients.
00:05:39.600 --> 00:05:41.199
I went into this to help my patients.
00:05:41.600 --> 00:05:48.480
And for me to discover that not only did I think I was hurting my patients, but I was also hurting myself.
00:05:48.720 --> 00:05:55.120
I was like, okay, either I find a way to marry what I do with what I believe, or I quit dentistry.
00:05:55.439 --> 00:05:56.240
Very powerful.
00:05:56.480 --> 00:05:59.439
And so I decided to make the change.
00:05:59.519 --> 00:06:03.519
And so in 2012, I committed to becoming a biological dentist.
00:06:03.600 --> 00:06:05.439
And that sort of was like the beginning.
00:06:05.600 --> 00:06:08.480
And every year I took on something, right?
00:06:08.800 --> 00:06:11.759
So the very first year I took on periodontal disease.
00:06:11.839 --> 00:06:17.439
I took on the root cause of periodontal disease, the link between gum disease, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, right?
00:06:17.519 --> 00:06:19.600
So bail donine was my thing back then.
00:06:19.839 --> 00:06:20.079
Love it.
00:06:20.240 --> 00:06:21.040
All my stars.
00:06:21.120 --> 00:06:24.800
That first year it was all about the bail donine method and so on and so forth.
00:06:24.879 --> 00:06:27.439
And then the second year it was mercury, right?
00:06:27.600 --> 00:06:29.519
The third year was fluoride.
00:06:29.680 --> 00:06:31.040
The fourth year was ozone.
00:06:31.120 --> 00:06:33.920
So every year I've taken on something new.
00:06:34.160 --> 00:06:35.680
And then I've committed to that.
00:06:35.839 --> 00:06:41.439
The fifth and sixth year were airway because that was that's a really huge, huge subject.
00:06:41.839 --> 00:06:44.959
And so just every year I've taken something on.
00:06:45.279 --> 00:06:52.240
Kudos to those people who have mentors, and that's why I've committed to being a mentor, because I had to figure it out all my own.
00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:55.519
And it takes so much longer to do it that way.
00:06:55.839 --> 00:06:58.879
And there were no standard processes anywhere.
00:06:59.040 --> 00:07:02.720
There were no, like, okay, this is what you do, step one, step two, step three.
00:07:02.879 --> 00:07:06.319
No, I had to figure it all on my own, and I didn't want that for anybody else.
00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:09.920
So, you know, Katie and I got together, and that's what we do.
00:07:10.079 --> 00:07:21.360
We teach other people how to do this so that they're not stuck the way that I got stuck, where I literally had to just take it all on one subject at a time, which one subject at a time, there's nothing wrong with that.
00:07:21.519 --> 00:07:23.680
But I literally had to figure it out on my own.
00:07:23.759 --> 00:07:26.079
And gosh, it's so much nicer when you don't have to do that.
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:26.959
So yeah.
00:07:34.480 --> 00:07:37.279
There's a lot of people who go into biological dentistry for the wrong reasons.
00:07:37.439 --> 00:07:38.639
They think it's about money.
00:07:38.879 --> 00:07:40.720
I promise you it's not about money.
00:07:41.680 --> 00:07:47.040
Now, there are people who are just making a butt ton of money, but it's all about sincerity.
00:07:47.199 --> 00:07:47.600
That's right.
00:07:47.759 --> 00:07:50.079
You know, and people can smell it a mile away.
00:07:50.639 --> 00:07:53.360
They can smell sincerity, they can smell authenticity.
00:07:53.600 --> 00:08:02.959
And they either know that you are authentic and sincere and really, really care, or they will smell and know that you're not really there.
00:08:03.199 --> 00:08:03.439
Yeah.
00:08:03.600 --> 00:08:08.240
You know, and in my practice, toothpaste in the bathroom, the cleaners under the sink.
00:08:08.319 --> 00:08:11.519
The I mean, I live in my practice the way I live in my home.
00:08:11.680 --> 00:08:12.000
That's right.
00:08:12.160 --> 00:08:13.040
I'm the real deal.
00:08:13.120 --> 00:08:14.319
I'm I have nothing to hide.
00:08:14.480 --> 00:08:15.920
I I'll show anybody anything.
00:08:16.079 --> 00:08:16.319
Why?
00:08:16.480 --> 00:08:18.240
Because I have nothing to hide.
00:08:18.480 --> 00:08:20.079
So Dr.
00:08:20.319 --> 00:08:36.960
Teresa is the leading biological dentist in Houston, and she's been training so many biological dentists, and a lot of dentists come to us and say, you know, I don't want to, I don't have that 10 years because my health or I'm stuck in dentistries and my patient asking for help, I don't know how.
00:08:37.200 --> 00:08:37.919
And so Dr.
00:08:38.000 --> 00:08:46.480
Teresa and I, we mentoring and helping dentists to get there so they don't take 10 years to do what we can teach you.
00:08:46.639 --> 00:08:52.080
And a lot of time our coaching mentoring programs are like 12 months, and people don't want to get off the program.
00:08:52.159 --> 00:08:55.120
They want to keep staying on and get that coaching and that guidance.
00:08:55.360 --> 00:09:00.799
And because remember, it's a bucket of information, it's so much information.
00:09:00.960 --> 00:09:06.000
It's not really possible to assimilate all of it in a year.
00:09:06.159 --> 00:09:08.720
We've taken it down into bite-sized pieces.
00:09:09.200 --> 00:09:17.919
And you can go as fast or as slow as you want to, but at the end of the day, even in that, it's not enough time to learn everything.
00:09:18.159 --> 00:09:24.320
I'm 10 years into this process, and I still, still learn every day.
00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:29.279
So, and you, I'm Katie is like literally the CE queen.
00:09:29.919 --> 00:09:34.159
She she blows me away with the amount of learning that she does.
00:09:34.320 --> 00:09:37.759
So it's not about like, okay, this is the end of your journey.
00:09:37.919 --> 00:09:38.399
No, no.
00:09:38.720 --> 00:09:42.879
It's biological dentistry is a journey just as much as dentistry is a journey, right?
00:09:43.039 --> 00:09:45.200
Life is a journey, everything's a journey.
00:09:45.440 --> 00:09:50.080
So I don't ever pretend to know everything, nor will I ever pretend to know everything.
00:09:50.399 --> 00:09:59.759
I have some perspectives, you know, because of my own health journey that have made me have a unique take on things.
00:09:59.919 --> 00:10:02.960
But at the end of the day, everybody's on a journey.
00:10:03.039 --> 00:10:03.279
Yeah.
00:10:04.000 --> 00:10:10.080
So when I share my mercury toxicity story, people thinking that maybe just you having that.
00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:12.879
Well, you know what, Teresa went through the same thing.
00:10:12.960 --> 00:10:17.039
And she actually is still going through the process of getting rid of mercury in her body.
00:10:17.200 --> 00:10:23.440
So, Teresa, share with us a little bit about what you've been doing for the last decade to try to get the mercury out of your system.
00:10:23.679 --> 00:10:26.480
And you still, because everyone of us are unique individuals.
00:10:26.639 --> 00:10:26.879
Exactly.
00:10:27.039 --> 00:10:35.200
And that's the reason why I would say the conventionals or the modern medicines are not really a one-size-fit-all, because all of us have different unique DNA.
00:10:35.519 --> 00:10:39.039
But we also have different flaw, MTHR.
00:10:39.120 --> 00:10:40.720
We talked about the big health pathway.
00:10:41.039 --> 00:10:43.519
So share with us what you've been doing for all these years.
00:10:43.840 --> 00:10:46.000
Help to lower the mercury level.
00:10:46.159 --> 00:10:52.000
Besides that, you're practicing biological dentistry that helps protect you, protect your patient and your team members.
00:10:52.159 --> 00:10:52.240
Okay.
00:10:52.480 --> 00:10:54.960
But what do you do for your health journey to get rid of that mercury?
00:10:55.919 --> 00:10:56.240
Okay.
00:10:56.720 --> 00:10:59.600
So for those who don't know, I'm a stage four cancer survivor.
00:10:59.679 --> 00:11:04.960
I was given a year to live and a 1% chance of survival December 1st, 2015.
00:11:05.120 --> 00:11:09.840
So I'm six and a half years in now to my journey, and I did not do chemo.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:14.159
I put myself into remission with IV vitamin C in 90 days.
00:11:14.399 --> 00:11:22.159
And ever since then, I mean I did do focal radiation because the metastasis was in my hip, but everything else has been holistic.
00:11:22.320 --> 00:11:28.159
And as I've shared before, conventional medicine has failed me in the literally the most miserable ways.
00:11:28.320 --> 00:11:31.360
Every single time it has done nothing but traumatize me.
00:11:31.600 --> 00:11:36.240
It has made me very, very leery of anything conventional.
00:11:36.399 --> 00:11:49.600
Because if there is a way to have a weird side effect, if there's a way to have a rare complication, if there's a way to in some way be the weirdo that doesn't respond, I'm the one.
00:11:50.159 --> 00:11:58.080
You know, and it's frustrating because gosh, it would be nice if I could just do this and this would happen, like most other people, right?
00:11:58.240 --> 00:11:59.600
Oh, you do this and this will happen.
00:11:59.840 --> 00:12:00.159
No.
00:12:00.399 --> 00:12:07.360
So because of that, I've had to become that outside the box thinker because I don't fit in a box.
00:12:07.600 --> 00:12:13.039
So for me, when I got like, I knew I was sick when I went into biological dentistry.
00:12:13.120 --> 00:12:16.159
I mean, when my children were born, I knew that I was sick.
00:12:16.320 --> 00:12:24.720
And then three years in, I became biological because I knew that the mercury itself was making me sick, etc.
00:12:24.960 --> 00:12:26.720
So I was very mercury toxic.
00:12:26.879 --> 00:12:36.399
I'm grateful that I wasn't able to breastfeed for my children because the honest truth is, is my breast milk was probably the most toxic breast milk on the face of this planet.
00:12:36.639 --> 00:12:45.519
So there's a degree to which I'm incredibly grateful that I wasn't able to breastfeed, even though I am a huge advocate for breastfeeding.
00:12:45.759 --> 00:12:55.120
But anyway, we went down that path, and six and a half years ago, I just no matter what I did in terms of being biological, I still was getting sicker and sicker.
00:12:55.200 --> 00:13:01.440
And it's because 17 years of practicing dentistry without any kind of protection against mercury.
00:13:01.759 --> 00:13:07.600
So anyway, got super sick, did all of that stuff, and I'm healed from cancer.
00:13:07.759 --> 00:13:11.440
Life is wonderful as far as that goes, but it's still a journey for me.
00:13:11.679 --> 00:13:26.000
I'm still doing regular ozone IVs, regular vitamin C IVs, not every day, like when I was going through my cancer treatment, but gosh, at least once a month, once every six weeks or so, you know, I'm doing something.
00:13:26.320 --> 00:13:41.759
Ozone sauna, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, PEMF therapy, like anything natural and so on and so forth, or alternative medicine, acupuncture, NAET, which is uh, I could not pronounce that when I first started.
00:13:41.919 --> 00:13:53.039
Um so NAET is an acupuncture technique that it's a natural allergy elimination technique, which is how I call it because I could not pronounce Nambudrapat.
00:13:53.519 --> 00:14:00.159
And it took me several months to finally be able to say it stands for Nambudrapat's allergy elimination technique.
00:14:00.320 --> 00:14:03.679
So some doctor named Nambudrapat developed it.
00:14:03.759 --> 00:14:08.639
And it works on the acupuncture meridians in the body that regulate allergies.
00:14:08.960 --> 00:14:13.759
Literally fabulous for me, where like allergy shots did nothing.
00:14:14.080 --> 00:14:16.639
NAET has really worked well for me.
00:14:16.720 --> 00:14:19.360
Clearly, I'm a sensitive, which is great.
00:14:19.840 --> 00:14:26.799
But in terms of chelation and so on and so forth, yeah, no, every time I try to chelate, even now, my cancer numbers go up.
00:14:26.960 --> 00:14:29.279
And so I'm like, nope, not doing that.
00:14:29.440 --> 00:14:33.200
You know, because my cancer numbers, the thing with cancer is everyone has cancer.
00:14:33.360 --> 00:14:34.000
Everyone does.
00:14:34.080 --> 00:14:38.159
I I want to make that really, really clear because people think, well, that means you're not cured.
00:14:38.240 --> 00:14:42.399
I'm like, no, I'm actually within the normal limits in terms of all of that.
00:14:42.559 --> 00:14:46.960
But everybody, at every point in their life, they've got cancer cells in their bodies.
00:14:47.200 --> 00:14:50.879
Some people just have more than others, and some have just gone out of control.
00:14:51.360 --> 00:14:58.240
So when I try to chelate, when I try to, because my body hangs on to mercury, like white hangs on to rice.
00:14:58.399 --> 00:15:02.559
Like it's frustrating for me because I want to get rid of it.
00:15:02.720 --> 00:15:06.000
But clearly my body's like, no, no, no, no, no, you're not ready.
00:15:06.240 --> 00:15:08.159
And so it hangs on to it.
00:15:08.320 --> 00:15:18.320
So every time I've tried to chelate, and believe me, I've tried, I've tried nanozeolite, I've tried the EDTA chelation, I've tried literally every way that I could to detoxify.
00:15:18.399 --> 00:15:19.600
And my body goes, no.
00:15:19.919 --> 00:15:22.480
What part of no, don't you understand?
00:15:22.799 --> 00:15:25.200
So I'm still working on that.
00:15:25.360 --> 00:15:33.200
And eventually I'm gonna probably detox mostly from like just time and the very gentle ways that I do it.
00:15:33.440 --> 00:15:36.799
My body loves ozone, so that's mostly what I do nowadays.
00:15:36.879 --> 00:15:43.600
And ozone does help boost your immune system and it does help to detox the body and glutathione, you know.
00:15:43.759 --> 00:15:46.639
So I, for example, never take Tylenol.
00:15:46.799 --> 00:15:56.399
I have not taken a tyanol at all since they gave it to me in the hospital for my cancer for post-op surgery, because Tylenol depletes your glutathione.
00:15:56.559 --> 00:16:02.159
My body needs every bit of glutathione it can take, because it's your body's master antioxidant.
00:16:02.320 --> 00:16:03.679
So it helps you detox.
00:16:04.080 --> 00:16:05.840
And if you don't have it, you don't detox.
00:16:06.159 --> 00:16:08.399
And very clearly, I have very little of it.
00:16:08.559 --> 00:16:17.279
So I try to get as much as I possibly can, naturally, et cetera, because your body's supposed to produce it, but as usual, my body does not.
00:16:17.440 --> 00:16:18.320
So, Dr.
00:16:18.399 --> 00:16:29.919
Teresa, your compassion, authenticity, your real life story, survival story, really attracting not only tons of patients to your practice because they follow you, right?
00:16:30.000 --> 00:16:36.720
They're driving distance to see you, but also a lot of dentists come to you and say, How can I do this?
00:16:36.960 --> 00:16:39.679
I don't have the cancer survival story.
00:16:39.759 --> 00:16:42.639
I don't know of a hammer toxicity, they don't know it yet.
00:16:42.879 --> 00:16:43.600
If you don't know it yet.
00:16:43.840 --> 00:16:46.559
If you're a dentist, you're mercury toxic, I promise.
00:16:46.879 --> 00:16:47.039
Yes.
00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:54.559
You you if you go to a functional doctor, and as soon as you find out and you put it on your form that you're a dentist, they would be like heavy metal testing for you, please.
00:16:54.879 --> 00:16:57.039
So you definitely want to check that out.
00:16:57.279 --> 00:17:04.319
So you notice that a lot of dentists want to go out this path because lucky they don't have cancer diagnosis yet.
00:17:04.400 --> 00:17:04.640
Yes.
00:17:04.880 --> 00:17:10.240
They really want to be well, they want to be able to be there for their family and for their patient and the team.
00:17:10.480 --> 00:17:19.200
What number one advice do you have for dentists that look at biological dentistry and say, Oh my god, it's overwhelming because I didn't learn any of that in dental school.
00:17:19.440 --> 00:17:21.359
How do I get started on the journey?
00:17:21.680 --> 00:17:24.640
So the same way you get started on any journey, right?
00:17:24.880 --> 00:17:25.839
One step at a time.
00:17:26.480 --> 00:17:31.519
Average dentist goes into biological dentistry, they start with ozone.
00:17:31.839 --> 00:17:40.079
Mostly because ozone is easy to learn, easy to implement, and they don't have to have this horrible story.
00:17:40.480 --> 00:17:47.680
They can just go, oh, it boosts your immune system, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, it kills bacteria, and you can literally visibly see it on a microscope.
00:17:47.920 --> 00:17:57.440
You do the ozone, you have all these horrible things on a slide, you take the ozone, you know, you do the ozone insuflation, ozone rinsing, whatever, and then you do another slide and everything's dead.
00:17:57.839 --> 00:18:01.119
So it's very visible, easy to use.
00:18:01.519 --> 00:18:03.680
And then that's where you start.
00:18:03.839 --> 00:18:09.119
And then that's when you go learn from the IAOMT and the IABDM.
00:18:09.200 --> 00:18:11.599
You take their biological dentistry 101 class.
00:18:11.759 --> 00:18:24.400
It's you go to one of their meetings, someone, the IABDM has it online, you know, and you take the class and then you really listen, trying to make sure that you listen with an open mind.
00:18:24.559 --> 00:18:32.799
Because what happens is what we were taught in dentistry, you have to unlearn some of what you were taught, sometimes an awful lot of what you were taught.
00:18:33.039 --> 00:18:38.319
So you have to go into it with the perspective of, okay, if Dr.
00:18:38.400 --> 00:18:39.359
Katie, if Dr.
00:18:39.519 --> 00:18:50.000
Teresa, if some of the other biological dentists that I love and respect have this story, then maybe there's something there to it, you know, and maybe I need to learn.
00:18:50.160 --> 00:18:53.119
And you go into it and you listen with an open mind.
00:18:53.519 --> 00:19:09.920
And you try to look at the research that is available already, that has been honestly covered up or muted by our profession, by our conventional dentistry profession, because they don't want us to have to change.
00:19:10.000 --> 00:19:13.519
They don't want to admit, for example, that mercury is toxic.
00:19:13.599 --> 00:19:19.200
Because if they do, it's an entire profession that must change.
00:19:19.359 --> 00:19:21.759
And so it's happening at the grassroots level.
00:19:21.920 --> 00:19:27.599
Those of us that got sick, because I promise you, most people don't go into this without having gotten sick.
00:19:28.160 --> 00:19:31.519
So those of us that got sick are trying to spread the message.
00:19:31.920 --> 00:19:35.279
And our goal is to really try to spread it like Katie and I are doing.
00:19:35.440 --> 00:19:46.559
We're like, okay, we know that we got sick, we know that we got better, we'd like to prevent you from getting sick, we'd like to make sure that you can give birth to your babies and not have fertility issues.
00:19:46.640 --> 00:19:51.680
You can give birth to your babies and not have all of the problems that we had.
00:19:51.920 --> 00:19:54.000
I had infertility for 20 years.
00:19:54.319 --> 00:19:56.880
Katie had struggles with fertility as well.
00:19:57.200 --> 00:20:04.480
You know, and it doesn't have to be that way, but 50%, 50% of female dentists struggle with fertility.
00:20:04.640 --> 00:20:05.440
That's a problem.
00:20:05.680 --> 00:20:05.839
Yeah.
00:20:06.000 --> 00:20:12.640
We actually did that study in our own group of female dentists, and the answer is just heartbreaking.
00:20:12.799 --> 00:20:12.960
Yeah.
00:20:13.200 --> 00:20:17.440
People go through so many rounds of IVF, IUI, and nothing.
00:20:17.519 --> 00:20:17.680
Yeah.
00:20:17.920 --> 00:20:20.319
And they was, you know, were told that they could not have children.
00:20:20.559 --> 00:20:26.400
Yeah, and they're trying to tell them it's genetic, and they're the conventional world is like, well, it's genetic, well, it's this, well, it's that.
00:20:26.640 --> 00:20:30.799
If it's profession-related, it's not genetic.
00:20:31.039 --> 00:20:32.000
We're toxic.
00:20:32.240 --> 00:20:36.400
And it's not easy to detoxify, but it's possible to.
00:20:36.559 --> 00:20:42.880
And here's the other thing conventional dentistry would tell you that biological dentistry is woo.
00:20:43.119 --> 00:20:44.000
It's not woo.
00:20:44.319 --> 00:20:46.160
It's just freaking good dentistry.
00:20:46.240 --> 00:20:46.559
Yeah.
00:20:46.799 --> 00:20:52.960
We do crayons, we do fillings, we do extractions, we do basic dentistry.
00:20:53.279 --> 00:20:54.240
We also do cosmetics.
00:20:55.680 --> 00:20:59.920
It's good, basic bread and butter dentistry.
00:21:00.240 --> 00:21:00.640
You know?
00:21:00.960 --> 00:21:02.640
Well, yeah, wellness dentistry.
00:21:02.960 --> 00:21:06.799
But it's more about addressing root cause.
00:21:06.880 --> 00:21:15.440
It's more about figuring out what caused the problem in the first place, not just if a person comes in with uh an infected tooth, right?
00:21:15.599 --> 00:21:18.319
You don't look at them and just go, okay, well, you need a root canal.
00:21:18.480 --> 00:21:20.319
The question is, why did the tooth die?
00:21:20.640 --> 00:21:21.039
Right?
00:21:21.279 --> 00:21:23.680
If the tooth died, what made it die?
00:21:23.839 --> 00:21:28.720
What can we do as dentists to make this your last dead tooth?
00:21:29.440 --> 00:21:31.759
Not, oh, well, okay, this is gonna happen.
00:21:31.839 --> 00:21:35.359
And if it happens again, we'll do another root canal or another extraction or whatever.
00:21:35.519 --> 00:21:44.960
Because at the end of the day, that's just, you know, if you what's the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over, expecting a different result.
00:21:45.200 --> 00:21:45.359
Yeah.
00:21:45.680 --> 00:21:46.640
That's insane.
00:21:46.720 --> 00:21:49.680
And that's been how we've been trained in dentistry.
00:21:49.759 --> 00:21:55.039
We've been trained to do the same thing over and over, expecting that we would get a different result.
00:21:55.119 --> 00:22:04.240
And yes, sometimes we do, because maybe the person got lucky with one thing or another, but at the end of the day, When you look at the big picture, root cause matters.
00:22:04.480 --> 00:22:08.079
So let's address why the person's tooth died.
00:22:08.319 --> 00:22:11.119
Let's address why the person is getting decay.
00:22:11.279 --> 00:22:14.880
Let's address why the person is getting periodontal disease.
00:22:15.039 --> 00:22:16.400
Let's address their airway.
00:22:16.559 --> 00:22:18.079
Why do they have sleep apnea?
00:22:18.319 --> 00:22:20.319
You know, let's figure something out.
00:22:20.480 --> 00:22:27.680
And if along the way we get to do lovely cosmetic work, you know, then at that point we get to do lovely cosmetic work.
00:22:27.759 --> 00:22:28.960
That's a perk, right?
00:22:29.359 --> 00:22:30.640
It's an absolute perk.
00:22:30.799 --> 00:22:37.440
And you get to do the lovely cosmetic work in a way that will last because you addressed the fires in the first place.
00:22:37.599 --> 00:22:38.079
That's right.
00:22:38.319 --> 00:22:44.160
As opposed to some of the cosmetic work that's done out there, which is all about this, and they never look at the back.
00:22:44.319 --> 00:22:45.599
They never look at the root cause.
00:22:45.680 --> 00:22:47.200
And so that stuff falls apart.
00:22:47.839 --> 00:22:53.839
Our goal is to make it so that the work we do lasts, doesn't fall apart, and the person's body likes it.
00:22:54.160 --> 00:22:55.359
What a novel concept.
00:22:55.519 --> 00:22:56.000
Yeah.
00:22:56.240 --> 00:22:59.920
And so I love the advice that you said take one step at a time.
00:23:00.079 --> 00:23:00.720
Yeah, you gotta do that.
00:23:00.960 --> 00:23:06.640
Because you cannot, you know, doing all 10 things because if you do everything, you're not gonna put it anything.
00:23:06.799 --> 00:23:07.039
No, it's not true.
00:23:09.519 --> 00:23:10.559
And it feels overwhelming.
00:23:10.799 --> 00:23:10.960
Yeah.
00:23:11.119 --> 00:23:19.039
When you're implementing in your practice, the person that helped you to implement and integrate in your practice is your team, and it will get overwhelmed.
00:23:19.200 --> 00:23:31.839
So that's the reason why with our guidance, we want to make sure you're implement well, integrate it well one thing, then move on to the next, so you can be confident, your team can be comfortable, and your patient can feel that too.
00:23:32.079 --> 00:23:38.720
Yeah, and I will tell you everyone who goes biological has team members who will fight you.
00:23:38.960 --> 00:23:40.400
Find it out early.
00:23:40.640 --> 00:23:43.440
Replace them with people who are open-minded.
00:23:43.680 --> 00:23:44.559
It will happen.
00:23:44.720 --> 00:23:46.240
And it's okay.
00:23:46.640 --> 00:23:47.519
It's okay.
00:23:47.759 --> 00:23:50.000
Like you've gone through it, I've gone through it.
00:23:50.160 --> 00:23:55.039
Everybody that I know has gone through it, where they're they have the team members that roll their eyes, right?
00:23:55.440 --> 00:23:58.000
You know, and then they'll start saying things behind your back.
00:23:58.160 --> 00:23:59.920
Those are the toxic team members anyway.
00:24:00.000 --> 00:24:05.119
They're not there to support your view, and it's your dream, it's your practice.
00:24:05.359 --> 00:24:07.599
Your view, your dream, your practice.
00:24:07.759 --> 00:24:11.279
Those team members need to be supportive of that.
00:24:11.519 --> 00:24:28.720
If they're not supportive of that, regardless of whether it's that or whether you're taking on, I don't know, what other say, for example, you wanted to get better at root canals, and you have patients who, and mind you, I'm a biological, so I don't like root canals, but say you have team members who are like, I hate root canals, and then they start fighting you on that.
00:24:28.960 --> 00:24:32.480
There's always going to be someone who's going to try to fight you on something.
00:24:32.720 --> 00:24:34.319
Those are your toxic team members.
00:24:34.400 --> 00:24:40.160
Find ones that are willing to support your vision and not try to fight you on it and play against it.
00:24:40.480 --> 00:24:40.960
You know?
00:24:41.279 --> 00:24:50.559
So now we have a lot of our patients actually listen to the podcast, and they are so excited, so happy to find dentists like you.
00:24:50.720 --> 00:24:59.359
Of course, through the IBDM listing to IOMT, that we are accredited and then sodified and smart removal or the mercury removal.
00:24:59.599 --> 00:25:00.799
But what advice you have?
00:25:00.960 --> 00:25:06.640
Because I know that you not only just talk the talk, you walk the talk, especially nutrition.
00:25:06.799 --> 00:25:07.119
Yeah.
00:25:07.359 --> 00:25:10.240
You make nutrition not only good, but fun.
00:25:10.400 --> 00:25:15.200
I love to go looking for snack with you because not only are they healthy, but they're good.
00:25:15.519 --> 00:25:21.359
We actually just came back from Whole Food last night because we like we need some good, healthy snack and drink.
00:25:21.680 --> 00:25:26.000
Something that really you enjoy, but it's good for your body, good for your soul.
00:25:26.319 --> 00:25:34.319
So when you have a patient looking for biological dentists and they want to get well, what is your number one advice for them?
00:25:34.480 --> 00:25:43.839
Where to go looking for these dentists, and how do they get success on this journey, which is not easy, but if they've committed to it, what number one advice for them?
00:25:44.079 --> 00:25:44.480
For the patients.
00:25:45.599 --> 00:25:46.079
Absolutely, yeah.
00:25:46.400 --> 00:25:47.599
So here's the thing.
00:25:47.839 --> 00:25:52.559
I'm absolutely certain that as a patient, you can smell authenticity.
00:25:52.880 --> 00:26:04.720
You can tell when someone is absolutely like there and their heart is in the right place, even if they're more at the beginning of their journey, and then you can tell the ones that are not.
00:26:04.960 --> 00:26:06.559
People are pretty smart, right?
00:26:06.720 --> 00:26:07.759
As far as that goes.
00:26:07.920 --> 00:26:25.359
So if you're looking for a biological dentist and you would like to like save yourself a whole bunch of heartache in terms of who is and who isn't, or at least who appears to be, on the right path, here's a couple of things that I tell my own patients when they're moving and they're looking for somebody else.
00:26:25.680 --> 00:26:31.759
For the IABDM, look for somebody who is a certified biological dentist.
00:26:32.000 --> 00:26:34.160
Okay, but look at their journey.
00:26:34.480 --> 00:26:48.720
Because if they're just there and they're members and they're paid members, but they haven't actually taken the time to take the test, you know, and present the case presentations to prove that they know what they're doing and they're doing it well.
00:26:48.880 --> 00:26:56.559
So to become a certified biological dentist, literally all it requires, right, is to take some classes and take a test.
00:26:56.880 --> 00:27:01.039
And part of the test is actually an audiovisual presentation.
00:27:01.200 --> 00:27:04.559
You have to actually have done, is it two cases?
00:27:04.960 --> 00:27:07.519
Two safe amalgam removal cases.
00:27:07.759 --> 00:27:08.319
Two of them.
00:27:08.480 --> 00:27:09.680
Not just one, two.
00:27:09.839 --> 00:27:19.759
And you have to present the patient's history, you have to present the before and after pictures, the during pictures, the process that you did, make sure you have all the equipment.
00:27:19.920 --> 00:27:20.319
Why?
00:27:20.559 --> 00:27:36.240
Because there's a ton of dentists out there, unfortunately, who are unscrupulous, who will say they do something, so it takes effort and energy and money, right, to become a certified biological dentist.
00:27:36.400 --> 00:27:42.000
Now, for the IAOMT, they have smart certified and accredited dentists.
00:27:42.079 --> 00:27:43.680
But here's what I'm going to tell you.
00:27:43.920 --> 00:27:50.480
You want someone, the IAOMT has something on their website that shows how many meetings a dentist has been to.
00:27:50.720 --> 00:27:58.960
Pick somebody who is smart certified, accredited, and has been to a minimum of two meetings.
00:27:59.039 --> 00:28:01.680
But obviously, the more meetings, the better, right?
00:28:01.920 --> 00:28:03.200
Not everybody can go to meetings.
00:28:03.279 --> 00:28:04.240
It's expensive.
00:28:04.400 --> 00:28:10.880
You know, we as dentists, I have to choose between 70, I take 150 plus hours a year, just like you do.
00:28:11.119 --> 00:28:15.920
And we have to choose between where's our money gonna go for continuing education.
00:28:16.160 --> 00:28:19.759
So you want somebody who cares enough to go.
00:28:20.400 --> 00:28:24.000
I have yet to make it to an AOS meeting, for example.
00:28:24.079 --> 00:28:26.960
It's American Academy of Oral Systemic Health.
00:28:27.119 --> 00:28:35.200
I want to go, but there are so many other things for me to do that I've been like, okay, I've got to pay attention to those things first.
00:28:35.599 --> 00:28:43.359
But AOSH is another organization that really truly supports that oral systemic health link, et cetera.
00:28:43.440 --> 00:28:45.759
So you want somebody who's truly committed.
00:28:45.920 --> 00:28:48.799
Look at their social media, look at what they say.
00:28:49.440 --> 00:28:52.400
Because you can smell authenticity.
00:28:52.559 --> 00:28:53.599
You can smell it when Dr.
00:28:53.759 --> 00:28:56.240
Katie talks about it, you can smell it when I talk about it.
00:28:56.319 --> 00:29:00.960
You know when someone knows what they're talking about and when someone is like, oh.
00:29:01.920 --> 00:29:03.440
So do your research.
00:29:03.599 --> 00:29:06.480
Don't just go, oh, they're right there, they're in a website.
00:29:06.559 --> 00:29:07.359
I can go to them.
00:29:08.400 --> 00:29:10.559
And do your research, ask questions.
00:29:10.720 --> 00:29:14.960
And I'm always telling patients there's so many good providers out there for you.
00:29:15.119 --> 00:29:20.720
So when you are seeing the provider, you do have that gut feeling that this person is the right fit for me.
00:29:20.880 --> 00:29:23.759
We have patients that come to Teresa and say, that's it.
00:29:23.920 --> 00:29:30.640
She's gonna help me with my oral health journey and my airways and my mercury toxicity and my root canals.
00:29:30.880 --> 00:29:32.720
You deep down inside have that gut feeling.
00:29:32.799 --> 00:29:34.400
I would say lean more into it.
00:29:34.640 --> 00:29:37.920
The more you lean into your gut feeling, the stronger it gets every time.
00:29:38.079 --> 00:29:40.960
And you would be able to make the decision without regret.
00:29:41.119 --> 00:29:46.720
So this is a very important journey that you take on to get well, get to the wellness.
00:29:46.880 --> 00:29:48.799
You've been on this journey or you're starting this journey.
00:29:48.880 --> 00:29:50.400
There's a reason why you started journey.
00:29:50.559 --> 00:29:52.319
Thing happened for you and not to you.
00:29:52.480 --> 00:29:52.640
Yeah.
00:29:52.880 --> 00:29:57.759
And all of us having that experience that we just not wake up one day and say, Well, let's practice biological.
00:29:57.920 --> 00:29:58.079
Yeah.
00:29:58.559 --> 00:30:01.200
We either practice biological or we have to quit dentistry.
00:30:01.279 --> 00:30:01.440
Yeah.
00:30:01.599 --> 00:30:02.720
That's come down to that.
00:30:02.880 --> 00:30:15.119
So Yeah, and there's if you're disenchanted with dentistry, if you're having questions about why are you doing this, then it's worth asking yourself, are you really helping your patients?
00:30:15.519 --> 00:30:21.119
And if you take a really deep look into your heart, am I really helping my patients?
00:30:21.279 --> 00:30:27.200
You know, or do I feel like I'm looking at the same thing over and over and nobody gets better?
00:30:27.519 --> 00:30:35.200
And too patient that listen to the podcast, I can tell you my number one advice is it's not an easy journey because if it's easy, everyone is doing it.
00:30:35.440 --> 00:30:42.400
There's a reason why you need discipline, you need some accountability, and you need to take that responsibility for your own health.
00:30:42.640 --> 00:30:47.519
We are here to be your guy, but you are the hero of your journey, especially your wellness journey.
00:30:47.680 --> 00:31:04.079
So besides eat well, drink well, I mean water, and then sleep well, you are gonna take necessary steps to get there, eliminate toxicity that you have in your body, your mouth, for example, and then have that positive outlook in life so you can get well together.
00:31:04.319 --> 00:31:04.480
Yeah.
00:31:04.559 --> 00:31:04.960
And Dr.
00:31:05.039 --> 00:31:06.799
Teresa, thank you so much for your validation.
00:31:07.119 --> 00:31:12.559
I do have one more thing to add, and that is biological dentistry is not cheap.
00:31:13.119 --> 00:31:17.440
So I don't want you to go into it thinking, okay, does somebody take my insurance?
00:31:17.599 --> 00:31:21.359
It's not cheap to do for us, it's not cheap to get for you.
00:31:21.519 --> 00:31:23.279
And I get that 100%.
00:31:23.839 --> 00:31:27.440
Money doesn't tell you what you can do, it tells you how fast you can go.
00:31:27.759 --> 00:31:28.559
I love that.
00:31:28.720 --> 00:31:32.400
Especially you going through your cancer journey and explain that to yourself.
00:31:32.880 --> 00:31:33.119
Exactly.
00:31:33.279 --> 00:31:35.119
That's it, Teresa, your story.
00:31:35.359 --> 00:31:51.359
Every single time I listen to it, it gives me goosebumps I love it, and I love your enthusiasm and then how you share in your story, not only from your own experience, but with the impact that you can help other dentists to find a way to practice healthier and safer, not just for themselves, for the team.
00:31:51.839 --> 00:31:53.440
Better and better, exactly.
00:31:53.680 --> 00:31:57.440
It's good dentistry, it's always good dentistry.
00:31:57.920 --> 00:32:04.799
And that's the list we can tell the patient we do no harm, we do the good dentistry, and then we do better from there.
00:32:04.960 --> 00:32:07.519
So I'm always saying no better, do better.
00:32:07.680 --> 00:32:09.279
And again, thank you for your time.
00:32:09.519 --> 00:32:10.319
Thank you for having me.
00:32:10.480 --> 00:32:14.319
