ABOUT THIS EPISODE
David Packouz is the real-life entrepreneur whose story inspired the movie War Dogs. In this conversation, he reveals what actually happened behind the Hollywood version—from entering the government-contracting world in his early twenties and winning a nearly $300 million ammunition contract, to being investigated by the federal government and believing he could spend decades in prison.
This episode is a deep conversation about ambition, betrayal, government contracts, legal consequences, entrepreneurship, and rebuilding your life after everything falls apart.
David explains how he and his former business partner built AEY into a major weapons contractor, how the Afghanistan ammunition deal unraveled, what War Dogs changed about the real story, and how a dispute over just $20,000 ultimately helped expose the entire operation.
He also opens up about being betrayed by his best friend, losing the millions he believed he had earned, pleading guilty, and facing the possibility of missing his daughter’s childhood. After receiving seven months of house arrest, David transformed one of the darkest periods of his life into the idea for BeatBuddy, a product that became a multimillion-dollar business.
