00:02:06.589 --> 00:02:09.229
Hey, welcome to the Fast of Faith podcast.
00:02:09.389 --> 00:02:12.030
I just wanted to jump on here and say hello.
00:02:12.269 --> 00:02:14.509
There are so many new faces.
00:02:14.750 --> 00:02:17.389
I'm so excited that you found me.
00:02:17.710 --> 00:02:25.629
Maybe you found me through the Candace Cameron Beret podcast episodes, and you have heard of my pain to purpose story.
00:02:25.870 --> 00:02:29.789
I was an OBGYN and I burnt myself out.
00:02:29.870 --> 00:02:40.189
And it wasn't until I went on my own health journey, faith journey, and healed myself with Jesus that I really figured things out.
00:02:40.509 --> 00:02:56.349
God has given me so much wisdom around our body and how we're supposed to care for it and nourish it and where the medical system is really going wrong and setting us up for chronic disease and misery.
00:02:56.669 --> 00:03:05.150
So I really wanted to share this interview that I did for my midlife reset summit recently.
00:03:05.389 --> 00:03:11.709
That summit is still available if you want to have it for an entire year.
00:03:11.870 --> 00:03:13.629
The link is in the show notes.
00:03:13.870 --> 00:03:19.870
But this interview is necessary for every single woman to hear.
00:03:20.030 --> 00:03:28.670
This is what I learned as I studied functional medicine and what I realized I didn't know as an OBGYN.
00:03:28.829 --> 00:03:32.110
So we're just asking the wrong people for help.
00:03:32.349 --> 00:03:41.310
And if you listen to this interview, you will understand why your doctor is giving you the answers they're giving you.
00:03:41.550 --> 00:03:48.509
And you'll really stop feeling so frustrated and you'll start to see the solutions appear.
00:03:48.670 --> 00:03:50.909
So I hope this episode blesses you.
00:03:51.069 --> 00:03:54.269
I hope you share it with every woman that you know.
00:03:54.589 --> 00:04:10.829
My good friend Kirsten Lindquist interviewed me for why conventional gynecology and OBGYNs are just getting it wrong and where we need to go to get answers and really thrive in this next season of our life.
00:04:11.069 --> 00:04:12.589
So enjoy.
00:04:12.829 --> 00:04:13.949
Shoot me your comments.
00:04:14.110 --> 00:04:18.670
I want to hear what else you want to listen and understand.
00:04:18.990 --> 00:04:19.949
I'm here for you.
00:04:20.110 --> 00:04:22.350
I love you, and I'll see you next week.
00:04:22.589 --> 00:04:26.589
Before we dive in, I want to tell the audience just a little bit about Dr.
00:04:26.670 --> 00:04:29.870
Tabitha Barber because we are so honored and blessed.
00:04:29.949 --> 00:04:31.790
I fell in love with her truly.
00:04:31.949 --> 00:04:38.829
I had her on my podcast, and from then on, the Lord was like, You will work with this woman because she is amazing.
00:04:38.990 --> 00:04:41.310
She's a triple board certified OBGYN.
00:04:41.389 --> 00:04:43.550
I'm talking about you like you're not here, but that's okay.
00:04:44.110 --> 00:04:51.550
She's a menopause and functional medicine physician who has dedicated her life to helping women reclaim their health in midlife and beyond.
00:04:51.709 --> 00:05:05.230
Her journey is one of true faith grit and transformation from being a teenage mom and a high school dropout to one of the most sought-after voices in women's health today.
00:05:05.389 --> 00:05:08.110
She's got this best-selling book, Fast to Faith.
00:05:08.189 --> 00:05:18.509
She has her podcast, Coaching Academy, the National Virtual Practice, where she sees so many clients and helps women gain tangible advice and move the needle in their lives.
00:05:18.670 --> 00:05:18.909
Dr.
00:05:18.990 --> 00:05:28.430
Tabitha helps women heal from stubborn weight, low energy, gut issues, and hormone imbalance and addresses really the root causes in body, mind, and soul.
00:05:28.589 --> 00:05:40.990
She's very passionate about exposing the gaps in conventional medicine and showing women that midlife is not the beginning of the end, but it's the start of your healthiest, most vibrant years yet.
00:05:41.149 --> 00:05:42.670
And that's why we're here, Doctor.
00:05:42.990 --> 00:05:44.909
Gosh, I love that so much.
00:05:45.149 --> 00:05:52.110
I hope everybody watching is just pumped up and excited because this is going to be super juicy.
00:05:52.269 --> 00:05:56.670
This is not your grandma's menopause and midlife transition.
00:05:56.990 --> 00:06:12.670
We are women on a mission who, you know, we're doing big things in the world, whether it's you're trying to be a stellar mom or run a business or run a home or lead a nonprofit, whatever is happening.
00:06:12.829 --> 00:06:19.469
Or maybe you're caring for your aging parents and you're just in a rough situation in this season of your life.
00:06:19.629 --> 00:06:21.550
Like we have got you covered.
00:06:21.629 --> 00:06:35.789
So I'm really excited and I wanted to kick off this whole entire week just debunking hormone myths, talking about hormones, and helping women understand that hormones are not the entire picture, right?
00:06:36.269 --> 00:07:08.750
Yeah, and I think that that's a perfect place to start because when we're talking about what is going on in midlife and stubborn weight and anxiety and hormonal issues and what we need to do as whether you're seeing that yet or you want to get into this season of your life, just the best and most fit version of you, I think one of the places we start is with conventional medicine because unfortunately it has failed us in the past, which is why we need a summit like this, which is why we need to learn from these experts.
00:07:08.990 --> 00:07:13.870
So, in your perspective, Doctor, what are the biggest gaps that you're seeing right now?
00:07:14.029 --> 00:07:18.109
And how is how's your own journey kind of influenced that perspective?
00:07:18.349 --> 00:07:20.349
I'm so glad we're starting here, Kirsten.
00:07:20.589 --> 00:07:38.909
So I like I said, I am a conventionally trained OBGY, and I spent a couple decades dedicating my life to what I thought was the answer, what I thought was God's plan for me to help women be healthy and live fruitful lives.
00:07:39.069 --> 00:07:42.909
But when I was in the thick of it, I burnt myself out.
00:07:43.069 --> 00:07:52.109
I destroyed my own health because I was caring for everybody else, putting everyone else first, thinking that is what God called me to do.
00:07:52.349 --> 00:07:57.629
And I got to the point where I was falling asleep at my desk.
00:07:57.870 --> 00:07:59.549
I couldn't even eat lunch.
00:07:59.709 --> 00:08:00.509
I was so busy.
00:08:00.589 --> 00:08:12.269
Or if I would eat, it would be on the way to a delivery while I was running down the hospital hallway, leaving dinner with my children to go and do a delivery and not coming back until three or four in the morning.
00:08:12.430 --> 00:08:19.229
And I got to this point where I was in such chronic back pain that I could no longer function.
00:08:19.389 --> 00:08:24.029
I couldn't sit on the bed and help a woman push when she was in labor.
00:08:24.189 --> 00:08:30.109
And one night I couldn't walk away from the OR table after I did an emergency C-section.
00:08:30.589 --> 00:08:34.029
So you can imagine how scary that was, right?
00:08:34.269 --> 00:08:38.430
And I went to the orthopedic surgeon like a good doctor.
00:08:38.669 --> 00:08:42.110
And all I knew was like, okay, I just need to go to the surgeon.
00:08:42.269 --> 00:08:44.430
And I had back surgery.
00:08:44.669 --> 00:08:46.350
I thought it was the only way.
00:08:46.509 --> 00:08:54.350
I took six weeks off to heal, which I thought the whole world was gonna fall apart because we as women were carrying everything, right?
00:08:54.430 --> 00:08:57.549
We're like, the world will fall apart if we take a break.
00:08:57.789 --> 00:08:58.590
But I did it.
00:08:58.669 --> 00:08:59.789
I was obedient.
00:09:00.029 --> 00:09:04.830
And my third night back on call, I re-injured and I couldn't move.
00:09:04.990 --> 00:09:08.509
I just cried out to God, like, why, God, why?
00:09:08.669 --> 00:09:10.190
And I didn't really get an answer.
00:09:10.269 --> 00:09:15.070
So I went back to the surgeon and he said, back surgery is like lay's potato chips.
00:09:15.149 --> 00:09:16.750
You can't have just one.
00:09:16.909 --> 00:09:19.389
Well, just put some rods and screws in your back.
00:09:19.629 --> 00:09:23.149
You might herniate above and below and need more surgery, but it's okay.
00:09:23.310 --> 00:09:24.430
Like you're gonna be fine.
00:09:24.509 --> 00:09:25.950
I do this all of the time.
00:09:26.190 --> 00:09:31.310
And something deep down within me said, This is not the right answer.
00:09:31.549 --> 00:09:33.230
And so I did the unthinkable.
00:09:33.310 --> 00:09:36.830
I took four months off of work and I went on this healing journey.
00:09:36.909 --> 00:09:51.310
And I what I found, Kirsten, was this whole world I knew nothing about health and wellness and diet and alternative medicine and white, what it matters what you're sleeping and your lifestyle and processing your relationships.
00:09:51.470 --> 00:09:54.909
Like none of this made any sense to me as a doctor.
00:09:55.149 --> 00:10:01.870
And what I realized was I was in this world of disease and diagnoses and despair.
00:10:02.110 --> 00:10:05.950
And so I didn't even know that wellness existed.
00:10:06.110 --> 00:10:10.110
I didn't know you were supposed to feel good and have energy.
00:10:10.269 --> 00:10:12.750
Like it was a foreign concept to me.
00:10:12.909 --> 00:10:17.149
So, like, you know, once your eyes are opened, you can't go back.
00:10:17.310 --> 00:10:21.070
And so I went on this path, and now I'm here.
00:10:21.149 --> 00:10:25.549
I'm on a mission to help women understand there is another way.
00:10:25.789 --> 00:10:29.070
Conventional medicine is a band-aid approach.
00:10:29.230 --> 00:10:38.750
I only had two tools in my toolbox as a conventional OBGYN medications like birth control and surgery, remove the offending organ.
00:10:39.389 --> 00:10:46.189
Those aren't actually healing your body, those are just covering up symptoms, those messages from your body.
00:10:46.269 --> 00:10:50.750
And so we need to know that there is another way to do this.
00:10:50.829 --> 00:11:04.990
And unfortunately, you have to step outside of conventional medicine, out of your what's covered by insurance, and your typical way of approaching health, because we're not talking about disease management.
00:11:05.149 --> 00:11:08.269
We're talking about getting healthy and thriving, right?
00:11:08.350 --> 00:11:10.590
So the conversation looks totally different.
00:11:10.750 --> 00:11:23.149
And I think that we have to stop there and put kind of an exclamation point on that, because this is everything you're gonna hear in this summit is gonna be a mindset shift for somebody and maybe for all of you.
00:11:23.309 --> 00:11:28.029
And that first mindset shift is my insurance should pay for all of it.
00:11:28.269 --> 00:11:33.309
The doctor knows best, and I just have to go and take the pill or get the surgery.
00:11:33.470 --> 00:11:37.470
And it used to be, friends, it used to be that way.
00:11:37.870 --> 00:11:48.590
But we have so much at our fingertips now and so much research and so much more information that we can not necessarily just have a band-aid approach.
00:11:48.829 --> 00:11:49.949
We can be proactive.
00:11:50.110 --> 00:11:53.389
And that means you're going to have to get a second, a third, or fourth opinion.
00:11:53.470 --> 00:11:57.470
That means you're gonna have to go out of pocket to get the best care in many situations.
00:11:57.789 --> 00:11:58.909
But you are worth it.
00:11:59.069 --> 00:12:00.429
And I want you to take that away.
00:12:00.750 --> 00:12:01.949
You are worth it.
00:12:02.110 --> 00:12:06.189
Your health is worth it because you can't help anybody else if you're not healthy.
00:12:06.350 --> 00:12:06.990
And what Dr.
00:12:07.069 --> 00:12:19.069
Tabitha is talking about right now is stepping outside of what you've always learned and opening your mind to these new things that you're gonna learn and how they're gonna help you be well, like she is, as opposed to stay sick.
00:12:19.230 --> 00:12:19.470
Yeah.
00:12:19.629 --> 00:12:22.509
Oh my gosh, that is that's everything.
00:12:22.750 --> 00:12:31.710
So we are gonna talk about mindset shift and really believing in your body's ability to heal, like getting the hope back.
00:12:31.789 --> 00:12:34.269
Because when women come to me, that's what they say.
00:12:34.429 --> 00:12:35.549
You're my only hope.
00:12:35.710 --> 00:12:37.789
Like, if this doesn't work, I'm done.
00:12:37.949 --> 00:12:39.549
I've tried everything else.
00:12:39.710 --> 00:12:48.110
And that breaks my heart, but it's also really exciting because it's such an opportunity for me because I know what I'm gonna help them with works.
00:12:48.269 --> 00:12:56.189
Like I healed myself, and I would love to just share the fact that I did not stay in my broken life.
00:12:56.429 --> 00:12:58.029
That life was killing me.
00:12:58.189 --> 00:13:05.389
Even though I thought God was calling me to help women and serve women and be a doctor, he wasn't calling me to do it that way.
00:13:05.549 --> 00:13:11.789
And one of the aha moments I had was he said to me, Yeah, you told me, let's go.
00:13:12.189 --> 00:13:14.909
I'm all in on doing what you're calling me to do.
00:13:15.069 --> 00:13:22.189
But then you left me back in the delivery room when you were 17 years old and you had your baby and you did it on your own for 20 years.
00:13:22.269 --> 00:13:27.710
And that's why you burnt yourself out because you did not invite me in on the journey.
00:13:27.870 --> 00:13:29.549
You did not ask for my help.
00:13:29.710 --> 00:13:33.470
You did not lean on me and ask me to carry those burdens.
00:13:33.549 --> 00:13:36.590
You carried it all yourself until you broke your back.
00:13:36.750 --> 00:13:41.789
And so I hope I know that's hitting somebody right in the heart today.
00:13:41.870 --> 00:13:46.990
Like you needed to hear this, that God is waiting for that invitation.
00:13:47.149 --> 00:13:50.509
He's waiting for you to say, please, Lord, come and help me.
00:13:50.590 --> 00:13:52.269
And maybe this is the answer, right?
00:13:52.509 --> 00:13:53.870
Maybe this is the answer.
00:13:54.429 --> 00:14:01.870
So and how and and knowing you as I have for the last year or so, it's a continual decision you have to make.
00:14:02.029 --> 00:14:06.269
It's not like you turned 37, you had this aha moment, and you're like, oh, you're right, God.
00:14:06.429 --> 00:14:09.069
You've had to go back and say, Oh, yeah, that's right.
00:14:09.149 --> 00:14:09.870
I'm following you.
00:14:10.029 --> 00:14:10.909
This is not of me.
00:14:11.069 --> 00:14:15.389
I'm gonna rededicate my life to following you because life gets hard.
00:14:15.549 --> 00:14:17.710
And let me remind everybody when when Dr.
00:14:17.870 --> 00:14:22.429
Tabitha went through this, she was, I think, what we would all consider still young.
00:14:22.590 --> 00:14:24.029
Like you were in your 30s.
00:14:24.110 --> 00:14:28.350
So the the hormone situation maybe wasn't at its peak.
00:14:28.509 --> 00:14:33.949
And right now it does seem that hormonal imbalance is at the root of so many midlife struggles.
00:14:34.110 --> 00:14:39.629
Why do you think that women are experiencing this at such alarming rates?
00:14:39.710 --> 00:14:42.029
And why is it often so overlooked?
00:14:42.350 --> 00:14:43.629
Yeah, oh my gosh.
00:14:43.789 --> 00:14:48.669
This summit is gonna tackle all the root causes of your hormone imbalances.
00:14:48.829 --> 00:15:02.829
And I'll tell you, while I was going through that chronic back pain and herniated discs and failed surgeries and raging Hashimoto's thyroid disease, I also started to have really heavy periods.
00:15:03.149 --> 00:15:16.189
One night I finally wasn't on call and I went out with my girlfriends for a wine about winter where you walk around downtown in the snow and you drink, you know, wine and visit the shops, and I had this big fluffy white coat on.
00:15:16.350 --> 00:15:19.389
I just I was so happy to be with my friends and not be on call.
00:15:19.549 --> 00:15:23.710
And we're all standing there talking, and all of a sudden I just felt a gush.
00:15:24.269 --> 00:15:30.990
And I had bled through my pants, and all I could think about was this beautiful white coat that I had on.
00:15:31.069 --> 00:15:32.829
And what am I gonna do?
00:15:33.069 --> 00:15:38.269
And it got real for me at that moment because my girlfriends were laughing at me.
00:15:38.429 --> 00:15:39.949
You're an OBGYN.
00:15:40.029 --> 00:15:41.549
Why are you bleeding through your pants?
00:15:41.710 --> 00:15:45.949
Just have an ablation, just get an IUD, just have a hysterectomy.
00:15:46.110 --> 00:15:52.350
And in the back of my mind, I was like, heck no, know the truth about all of that stuff.
00:15:52.429 --> 00:15:54.669
I'm not signing up for any of it.
00:15:54.909 --> 00:16:10.990
And so thankfully, when I went on this health journey to fix my back and studied functional medicine through the Cleveland Clinic and learned all of these root cause reasons, I was able to balance my hormones and get rid of my heavy periods naturally.
00:16:11.069 --> 00:16:14.029
And I never went on to do that stuff.
00:16:14.269 --> 00:16:25.629
So I just want you to realize like I was afraid of those procedures because I know the risks that are involved, yet we act like it's no big deal and we offer it to women all of the time.
00:16:25.789 --> 00:16:34.350
And then you're left with the sequelae of that, the ramifications, the you know, the complications or the side effects that come from that.
00:16:34.509 --> 00:16:43.309
I did try an IUD, Kirsten, and I was so suicidal within a week that I took my IUD out myself at home.
00:16:43.470 --> 00:16:45.230
Is that yes?
00:16:45.470 --> 00:16:47.549
But it was that scary to me.
00:16:47.710 --> 00:16:50.029
I was that was another moment.
00:16:50.189 --> 00:16:52.110
I was like, what are we doing to women?
00:16:52.269 --> 00:16:59.309
I'm sitting here telling them it doesn't cause anxiety or depression, and I'm thinking about jumping out of this window right now.
00:16:59.470 --> 00:17:01.230
I just got this IUD.
00:17:01.389 --> 00:17:19.390
So, like, God has shown me so much revelation about our health as women, and I just am passionate about sharing it with you guys because you need to know the truth about what birth control is doing to you, what these synthetic hormones are doing to you.
00:17:19.630 --> 00:17:25.710
And I know you're being dismissed, I know you're being gaslit, and it's not okay with me.
00:17:25.870 --> 00:17:27.309
Like it stops this week.
00:17:27.390 --> 00:17:34.350
I'm really excited because I feel like the women watching this summit are gonna know more than their doctor about their body by the end of the day.
00:17:34.509 --> 00:17:35.150
Absolutely.
00:17:35.309 --> 00:17:43.710
And that's a gift to be able to have this much information at our fingertips these days, especially when it comes from experts who you can trust.
00:17:43.789 --> 00:17:44.590
Because I will tell you, Dr.
00:17:44.670 --> 00:17:54.430
Tabitha and I have vetted everybody to make sure that you're getting good quality, science-backed and biblically backed principles and ideas in the summit.
00:17:54.590 --> 00:17:56.509
So you kind of touched on it though, Doctor.
00:17:56.670 --> 00:18:01.150
How does how does the functional medicine approach to hormones differ from conventional gynecology?
00:18:01.390 --> 00:18:07.470
Yeah, so like I mentioned earlier, conventional medicine, I think of it like band-aid medicine.
00:18:07.549 --> 00:18:11.789
You want to stop the hemorrhaging, you want to stop the bleeding, kind of clean up the mess.
00:18:11.950 --> 00:18:21.549
That is really where conventional medicine came from is healing ruptured appendix, taking someone to surgery, fixing a broken elbow or a leg.
00:18:21.710 --> 00:18:23.870
It's like this acute care situation.
00:18:24.029 --> 00:18:29.069
They are going to keep you alive, hopefully, and help you be okay.
00:18:29.470 --> 00:18:33.630
But there's a huge gap between disease and wellness.
00:18:33.789 --> 00:18:37.870
The absence of disease does not equal health and vitality.
00:18:38.029 --> 00:18:49.150
And so they don't understand how to help your body operate at a nice high level, slow down the aging process and actually feel amazing.
00:18:49.390 --> 00:19:00.430
Have your brain working, have your body sleeping for eight hours a night, have you being able to do all your activities of daily living without feeling exhausted and drained?
00:19:00.509 --> 00:19:03.870
Like those things, that is a whole nother level.
00:19:03.950 --> 00:19:14.509
And that's where functional medicine thrives because it doesn't take care of the symptom, it takes care of the root cause reason causing that symptom.
00:19:14.670 --> 00:19:18.269
So I heard this story actually yesterday that I think I should share.
00:19:18.430 --> 00:19:26.750
You're standing at the river, you're standing with a couple of friends, and there's bodies floating down the river, which is kind of morbid, right?
00:19:26.910 --> 00:19:35.710
And you're pulling them out, and some are still alive, and you're resuscitating them, and some didn't make it, and you need to take care of them and bury them.
00:19:35.789 --> 00:19:44.509
And this just keeps happening, and more bodies keep floating down the river, and so you're working harder to pull the bodies out and resuscitate them or bury them.
00:19:44.990 --> 00:19:54.029
And at one point, I'm thinking, let me walk up the river and see what is causing all these bodies to go into the river.
00:19:54.269 --> 00:19:56.190
And that is functional medicine.
00:19:56.349 --> 00:20:00.589
We go upstream and we find out why is this happening?
00:20:00.829 --> 00:20:03.549
We ask the deeper questions, why?
00:20:03.789 --> 00:20:05.789
Why are you having heavy periods?
00:20:05.950 --> 00:20:09.710
Why have you suffered from depression since you were 10 years old?
00:20:09.869 --> 00:20:15.950
Why have you been labeled with irritable bowel syndrome and chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia?
00:20:16.109 --> 00:20:17.549
There is a reason.
00:20:17.710 --> 00:20:24.509
I truly believe the more I study the Bible and talk to God, he did not create our bodies to fail us.
00:20:24.750 --> 00:20:30.349
He did not like create them in a way that they just cannot handle things.
00:20:30.509 --> 00:20:32.349
That is not true.
00:20:32.670 --> 00:20:40.750
And that is the narrative that we hear when we go see the doctor, and the doctor's gonna heal you, and the doctor has all the answers.
00:20:40.910 --> 00:20:42.269
And it's just not true.
00:20:42.430 --> 00:20:49.869
Your body has an incredible innate intelligence, it's fully equipped to take these tasks on.
00:20:49.950 --> 00:20:51.869
We just need to know what it's saying to us.
00:20:52.029 --> 00:20:54.349
These symptoms are not to be covered up.
00:20:54.670 --> 00:20:58.990
We are supposed to listen to them and put them together like a puzzle.
00:20:59.150 --> 00:21:01.069
Like, what are all these pieces?
00:21:01.230 --> 00:21:12.509
You know, my periods, my migraines, my Raynaud's syndrome, my numbness and tingling, like you name it, we're suffering from it.
00:21:12.750 --> 00:21:22.910
And if you take all those pieces, all those symptoms, and you get to see the picture, the upstream reason of why it's happening, then you can actually shift and get healthy.
00:21:23.069 --> 00:21:25.150
So that's where functional medicine shines.
00:21:25.230 --> 00:21:27.789
And that's why this summit is different.
00:21:28.029 --> 00:21:30.430
So much goodness, so many stories, too, that you're gonna hear.
00:21:30.509 --> 00:21:38.109
Like I'm thinking of myself and symptoms, and for which, you know, for instance, cold shoulder or frozen shoulder that some of you might have as you go into perimenopause and menopause.
00:21:38.190 --> 00:21:50.990
Like you could go to physical therapy, you could go get a shot, or you could also go and look at, hey, maybe it's because I had maybe what's exacerbating the pain is inflammation from the glass of wine or the excess sugar that I had yesterday.
00:21:51.069 --> 00:21:52.269
I see that in myself.
00:21:52.430 --> 00:22:02.430
And if we can get you to look upstream and have the research to see how your body reacts to things, your body can stay well longer.
00:22:02.670 --> 00:22:12.430
A little bit of a turn because I know we're gonna hear a lot about this in this summit, but could you quickly just touch on hormone replacement therapy?
00:22:12.589 --> 00:22:15.789
There is so much fear and misinformation about it.
00:22:16.029 --> 00:22:20.269
What is your take and why do you believe that that fear is really outdated?
00:22:20.750 --> 00:22:24.109
Yeah, this is this is something essential.
00:22:24.190 --> 00:22:38.670
I hope every woman watches this first interview because I want women to understand that although our hormones do make us who we are, they give us our personality and they make us feel good and function well.
00:22:39.069 --> 00:22:45.309
They are not usually the end-all be-all answer to helping you feel better in midlife.
00:22:45.470 --> 00:22:57.309
I promise you, I see women in my virtual medical practice every day from around the country, not just where I live in Michigan, from California, Maine, Hawaii, everywhere.
00:22:57.470 --> 00:22:59.230
They're saying the same thing.
00:22:59.470 --> 00:23:02.349
Okay, I got on hormone replacement therapy.
00:23:02.509 --> 00:23:06.349
It felt good for a couple months, and now I'm struggling again.
00:23:06.589 --> 00:23:12.029
And that is because you still have root cause issues that you need to address upstream.
00:23:12.269 --> 00:23:17.549
HRT or BHRT is another band-aid, and it's a great band-aid.
00:23:17.789 --> 00:23:25.710
Like I promise you, the day I didn't want to get off the couch, I didn't want to be married anymore, I didn't want my business anymore.
00:23:25.869 --> 00:23:27.309
That was a devastating day.
00:23:27.389 --> 00:23:35.069
I was so depressed, I was like checked out of life, and it took me three days to realize I didn't have any estrogen flowing in my body.
00:23:35.230 --> 00:23:38.269
So being on an estrogen patch is real for me.
00:23:38.430 --> 00:23:42.109
This is how I function, and progesterone is how I sleep.
00:23:42.269 --> 00:23:48.109
So those band-aids are very helpful, but I had to do all of the other stuff too.
00:23:48.430 --> 00:23:55.629
My stress was out of control during that time, and so it drove my early menopause.
00:23:55.789 --> 00:24:01.309
And so I needed to go upstream and address why I was having so much stress.
00:24:01.389 --> 00:24:15.789
And part of it was trying to run three businesses and grow things, but part of it was I had gut infections that I wasn't dealing with, and I wasn't living the life that my Hashimoto's thyroid disease needed me to live.
00:24:15.950 --> 00:24:18.269
And so this is a journey, you guys.
00:24:18.349 --> 00:24:19.869
You got to give yourself grace.
00:24:19.950 --> 00:24:26.269
But the more that you start to understand how all these pieces fit together, the better off you're gonna be.
00:24:26.430 --> 00:24:31.869
And let me just speak to hormone replacement therapy because I think it's a gift from God.
00:24:32.029 --> 00:24:35.950
You know, people say, well, it's a natural process.
00:24:36.750 --> 00:24:40.589
Doesn't God want us to just go into menopause and deal with it?
00:24:40.910 --> 00:24:50.349
Um, our society has advanced so quickly in the past hundred years that our physiology and genetics have not caught up yet.
00:24:50.509 --> 00:24:53.950
We are still going into menopause at 50 or 51.
00:24:54.349 --> 00:25:00.430
Yet, in our new society, that is when women are like just coming into their own.
00:25:00.589 --> 00:25:10.670
Their businesses are taking off, they're at the height of like running the PTAs or doing their philanthropy work, like they're just getting started.
00:25:10.829 --> 00:25:18.269
You know, when my grandma went to menopause, she was on the porch knitting, she made dinner on Sundays, but that was about it.
00:25:18.509 --> 00:25:30.430
So I really want us to realize that God uses really smart people, He uses science, He uses technology to help advance and make our lives better.
00:25:30.670 --> 00:25:37.789
And so I'm all for bioidentical hormone therapy, but there's a safe way to do it and a not so safe way to do it.
00:25:38.029 --> 00:25:52.990
And 2002 women's health initiative study really destroyed us because this study was stopped early and the media ran with this narrative that estrogen causes breast cancer.
00:25:53.150 --> 00:25:56.829
And I promise you, estrogen does not cause breast cancer.
00:25:56.910 --> 00:26:04.430
It took 20 years, but the publishers and creators of that study finally admitted we were wrong.
00:26:04.589 --> 00:26:06.430
That is not what the data said.
00:26:06.670 --> 00:26:09.230
We didn't stop that narrative from happening.
00:26:09.389 --> 00:26:15.629
We allowed it to continue on because we didn't want to support hormone replacement therapy for women.
00:26:15.789 --> 00:26:18.670
So they came back and they admitted all of this.
00:26:18.990 --> 00:26:27.869
But unfortunately, the damage was done because overnight doctors stopped prescribing hormones and they were afraid to be sued.
00:26:28.029 --> 00:26:33.389
Patients were afraid of dying and they panicked and they went off of their hormones.
00:26:33.629 --> 00:26:49.470
And what we have seen over the past 20 years since that happened is a huge rise in obesity, in heart disease, in osteoporosis, in fractures, in early death, in dementia, all because we just like stopped hormone therapy.
00:26:49.710 --> 00:26:51.789
So, what is the truth about that study?
00:26:52.029 --> 00:26:54.029
The truth is there were two parts.
00:26:54.190 --> 00:27:02.670
There was women taking estrogen only because they didn't have a uterus, and then there were women taking estrogen and a synthetic progestin.
00:27:03.230 --> 00:27:18.910
The synthetic progestin group was showing a not even a statistically significant increase, but a potential increase in breast cancer over the placebo group of people not taking anything, and so that's why they stopped the study.
00:27:19.069 --> 00:27:28.109
So there were eight extra breast cancer cases in the estrogen plus progestin group out of 10,000, every 10,000 women.
00:27:28.190 --> 00:27:30.269
So it was a very small increase.
00:27:30.509 --> 00:27:37.470
It wasn't the estrogen, it was the synthetic progestines, and we have made a mess of it for 20 years.
00:27:37.549 --> 00:27:43.309
And the saddest part is that the progestins are what's in all of our hormonal birth control.
00:27:43.389 --> 00:27:51.549
So we're gonna talk about that in some of these episodes during the summit of like, what is a progestin and how is it different than progesterone?
00:27:51.710 --> 00:27:56.029
And why are women so confused and still suffering?
00:27:56.349 --> 00:28:03.950
So I just want women to realize like there are safe ways to do hormone replacement therapy.
00:28:04.109 --> 00:28:04.349
Yeah.
00:28:04.589 --> 00:28:06.670
So much learning, so much information.
00:28:06.750 --> 00:28:12.430
And your doctor, conventional doctor, gets about six minutes, 15 if you're lucky.
00:28:12.589 --> 00:28:24.910
So the fact that you can sit down in these days, in these episodes, and we're gonna talk about ways for you to be able to keep these episodes for a year to come so you can come back and listen more before you go to the doctor.
00:28:25.069 --> 00:28:38.990
But the fact that you can get all of this information and and be able to go to your doctor and talk to them about it and make that that all that all-important informed consent piece of it, you're getting that right here, which I think is great.
00:28:39.230 --> 00:28:40.829
Before we let you go, Dr.
00:28:40.910 --> 00:28:48.509
Tabitha, for the woman who's watching who maybe feels dismissed by doctors or over-medicated, that's a big one.
00:28:48.670 --> 00:28:56.029
Too many chronic diseases, too many band-aids at the same time, too many specialists they're going to, and really unsure where to turn.
00:28:56.349 --> 00:29:02.829
What is the first step that they need to advocate for themselves to get real answers?
00:29:03.150 --> 00:29:04.750
My goodness, the first step.
00:29:04.990 --> 00:29:06.349
Watch these interviews.
00:29:06.509 --> 00:29:06.829
Okay.
00:29:07.069 --> 00:29:23.470
You signed up, you registered for this summit, but now you need to consume the information, and then you need to talk to God to try and figure out and get some discernment around what is important in my health right now.
00:29:23.629 --> 00:29:25.309
What do I need to focus on?
00:29:25.470 --> 00:29:29.710
And ask God to show you the full picture of what you have been going through.
00:29:29.869 --> 00:29:39.230
That is one of the coolest things I learned through the Cleveland Clinic is functional medicine practitioners, they make you fill out like a 30-page intake form.
00:29:39.309 --> 00:29:46.750
But what they do is they create a timeline of your life, of everything that has happened to you.
00:29:46.910 --> 00:29:49.230
Did you grow up on a farm?
00:29:49.549 --> 00:29:51.470
Were you sexually abused?
00:29:51.710 --> 00:29:53.869
When did you start having babies?
00:29:54.029 --> 00:29:56.029
Like, where have you traveled to?
00:29:56.190 --> 00:29:58.990
What have you potentially been exposed to in your gut?
00:29:59.150 --> 00:30:02.430
Like parasites, yeast, different things like that.
00:30:02.750 --> 00:30:10.990
We look at everything and we write out this timeline so that we can see you as a full entity of yourself.
00:30:11.069 --> 00:30:13.389
Like, were you raised in the church?
00:30:13.710 --> 00:30:15.710
Do you have spiritual beliefs?
00:30:15.869 --> 00:30:19.309
What are your beliefs about your yourself in this universe?
00:30:19.470 --> 00:30:24.910
Like all of these things actually determine your health and well-being.
00:30:25.069 --> 00:30:32.509
And so if you can start to piece together your picture, your timeline of oh my gosh, that makes so much sense.
00:30:32.829 --> 00:30:39.150
This happened, and then I got mono, and then I got chronic fatigue, and now I have cancer.
00:30:39.230 --> 00:30:48.349
Like, if you can start to put that timeline together, everything's gonna be able to shift because then you're gonna know what your next steps need to be.
00:30:48.509 --> 00:30:55.069
So that would be my recommendation is take in the information, try not to feel overwhelmed.
00:30:55.309 --> 00:31:02.430
You can just like pick and choose if you really are focused, but invite God into this conversation with you.
00:31:02.589 --> 00:31:09.549
Ask him for guidance on this of what you should be doing and who you should be watching and listening to.
00:31:09.789 --> 00:31:10.670
Take notes.
00:31:10.910 --> 00:31:15.230
I I love the VIP because you can get the written transcripts.
00:31:15.389 --> 00:31:26.990
Like that to me is so powerful to just have it written down because you know, I went through medical school, I had to consume a lot of information, and the first time it's like drinking from a fire hose.
00:31:27.470 --> 00:31:37.389
And then you go back and you look at your notes or you listen to the lecture again, and then it starts to like sink in, and then you focus in on a couple things.
00:31:37.470 --> 00:31:45.069
And then the third time you look at your notes and you listen to the lecture, then it starts to solidify into something real.
00:31:45.309 --> 00:31:52.430
So that would be my recommendation for how to use this summit to your advantage.
00:31:52.589 --> 00:31:54.269
We've created this for you.
00:31:54.589 --> 00:31:55.549
Yeah, so true.
00:31:55.789 --> 00:31:57.710
Let me do that for you right now.
00:31:57.869 --> 00:32:00.670
That most important key, which is invite the Lord in.
00:32:00.829 --> 00:32:02.029
Let's invite him in.
00:32:02.269 --> 00:32:06.109
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for every single person who is watching.
00:32:06.509 --> 00:32:07.470
Watching this and listening.
00:32:07.629 --> 00:32:16.670
I pray that you open their our eyes, their hearts, their minds to what you have to say and the truth behind their health and who they are in you.
00:32:16.829 --> 00:32:21.150
Lord, help heal people through this next week.
00:32:21.309 --> 00:32:24.589
We thank you so much for bringing all these people together and we thank you for Dr.
00:32:24.670 --> 00:32:24.910
Tepp.
