► Tell us about you and your podcast
Leon Loganathan and Peter Gowers.
I am a lawyer with local law firm, Ward Keller. Peter is a digital marketing guru and owns a digital marketing business, the oddly named, 'Oppindanus'.
Our podcast is called 'Territory Story'. It's about stories that connect people that live and work in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Our listeners are from all over the world but predominantly Australia and the US.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We love listening to podcasts and we thought it would be interesting to start one up.
The Northern Territory Government started a campaign in 2018 called 'Boundless Possible'. We thought we would give them unsolicited help by starting a podcast with the same name and sharing stories about people who live and work in the Northern Territory.
The podcast was started in March 2019. We have nearly done a year and we are up to episode 50. Recording was easy because we use the Anchor App.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We record once a week on Wednesdays at 5pm. Peter does the post production and I think it takes him an hour or so.
We do this ourselves. Pete is keen for sponsors but I kind of like the hobby aspect. It's not expensive or time consuming. We both enjoy the stories.
For me, the most fascinating thing about doing this is that even when I've known the guest we are interviewing to for years, I still learn so much about them.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We aren't actively looking for sponsors, although I think Pete would be happy to speak with any.
We have had over 4,000 download of our podcast since inception. We have an established audience of around 70 (according to Anchor analytics).
I benefit from podcasts by getting to know people more. That's my reason for doing it. And I guess in doing the podcast, our listeners get to know people more too.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We just use Anchor and an i-Phone. It's pretty basic.
Finding guests is the easy part, as a lawyer I know so many people that our guests just roll off the assembly line. It is a lot of fun.
We don't prepare - that's our secret. For us it is a conversation that can go off in any direction, and many times it has, much to our delight and those of our audience (based on the downloads).
We use the phone for interviews and Peter joins in via Skype as he's currently in Melbourne.
► How do you market your show?
We do a video promotion every Sunday which we post to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
We use Anchor analytics to see how popular each episode is. The Apple platform seems to be the post popular.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I wanted to do a podcast for years, but I was just intimidated by the production and equipment that I thought I needed. After Pete introduced me to Anchor and I learnt that all I needed was a phone, I jumped in and haven't looked back.
You can find me on LinkedIn. I am happy to answer your questions there. We also have a Facebook page called 'Territory Story' where you can be kept up to date on new episodes.
