► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Kristian Lander. I am genuinely curious about the world, people and conversation.
"Our Curious World" is about having engaging discussions and free form conversation. Exploring wherever the topic goes naturally. Similar by inspiration in many ways to the Joe Rogan Experience and Coast to Coast AM. Have a passion for technology, innovation, humanity, creativity and the unusual.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Podcasts are a brilliant way to communicate. Whether documentary, audio drama, discussion, comedy or story.
My goal initials were about recovery and betterment. Traumatic times and mentally was in a dark place, without no light. I reached forward to what I am good at, talking, coaching and learning. To better understand myself, learn along the way. Exploring conversation across topics I personally find of interest with those who know best in the field and more so.
With a background in radio, filmmaking, video editing and presentation. Producing and recording a series of podcasts was a comfortable transition.
Our Curious World began in 2018. Production was relatively straight forward, episodes are also not just audio but video too.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Frequency is ideally, less than monthly. Production wise from recording, to pre publication and being sure the visual version is rendered correctly, audio levels correct.
Marketing, perhaps I should do much more than I do. I try to fit around life, work is very long hours.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
No sponsorship as such, growth by word of mouth and recommendation.
Have been offered sponsorship and recommendation for advertising. Downloads fluctuate dependent on topic and guest. Have reached more than 5000 with one, and another may reach 500.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Using a unique combination of OBS Open Broadcaster, to screen / window record the discussion. Skype/Hangouts/FB Messenger. Audio editing Audacity and Adobe premiere pro.
Guests are people who are forthright experts in their field, and people I know personally from the contacts I have.
Preparation, in the sense of organizing with the guest. software testing, audio testing.
A general sense of what id like to explore with the guest, I may note some bullet points and questions I would like to clarify.
► How do you market your show?
My marketing methods include email & social media once the podcast is produced.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Be sure to have plans, some structure.
Be sure software is working pre interview.
Having a period of pre interview and debrief cooldown. Often find that time more benefical.
