► Tell us about you and your podcast
Fawn is a humanitarian-focused, architectural photographer, founder of the social movement Our Friendly World, geared at making our world friendlier, and host of the podcast, Our Friendly World with Fawn and Matt, dedicated to moving our society away and out of the loneliness epidemic and into a happier, friendlier world. On their podcast, Fawn and her husband Matt invite listeners to the friendly, welcoming world of their kitchen table to discuss ways in which we can create a socially, economically, and racially compassionate world through the art of friendship.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started the actual podcast right when the pandemic began and the world was in lockdown. Before that, I was implementing ways we can grow community at home (our neighborhoods) and our offices. The podcast launched our work out there faster and with a broader embrace around the world.
Podcasting is such a beautiful and intimate way to bring comfort and support to us all. Just hearing another human voice reminds us we are connected. I listen to podcasts all the time when I am not working on Our Friendly World.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We record every weekend (before the kids wake up in the morning - usually - sometimes you hear them laughing in the background) and we never take a break. We want to make sure people have us to lean on. I did not think I would become a podcaster. All the equipment I use for the podcast is all my high-end equipment I use on my photography/video shoots ( I am a photographer by trade). All the episodes are recorded at our kitchen table as we sit at the kiddie picnic table (really crazy since Matt is 6' 4"!
Doing this podcast and all that is involved is a full-time job for a few people and all of it is done by me (Fawn). Matt shows up and talks (hahaha)!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We would love to collaborate with the right sponsors at some point. This is a destiny of pure LOVE!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We "interview" (it is really a collaborative conversation) our guests (most of whom have become dear friends of ours) via zoom, but we don't record through zoom. I use my sound recording equipment from my photoshoots. Once the recording is done, I pull the audio off of a memory card, copy and paste it to hard drives and begin editing in Descript. I then download the finished product and upload all (including artwork) to my publisher (Castos). Then off to word of mouth and social media to tell EVERYONE about that episode. During this time, I am researching and writing outlines for future shows. Most of our guests we became friends with during the pandemic, meeting them online taking courses or through Instagram.
► How do you market your show?
Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, youtube, the grocery store, the dentist, yelling out my window... are all ways I get the word out about our show and our vision!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
It is easier than you may imagine. You don't need fancy equipment. Just talk. IT IS A HEALING EXPERIENCE.
