► Tell us about you and your podcast
TennisPAL Chronicles is a tennis podcast to feed your passion for the game! We are tennis fans that interview tennis professionals and discuss tips, news, and reviews for your tennis obsession. Our global Fan Favorite reports are created by passionate fans who share news about their favorite players. Host Phillip Kim is the Tennis Pro at the historic Langham Huntington in Pasadena as well as the Director of Tennis for the City of Azusa and an avid player and coach.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Yes, I love podcasts and listen to everything from Tennis, Financial, Leadership and Fitness.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
You always find time for the things that you love and are close to your heart. I love tennis and am passionate about connecting with others who are the same and want to grow the sport. Our podcast is sponsored by TennisPAL a tennis app you can download to find tennis players in your area.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The podcast came out of a meeting with TennisPAL and our mutual passion for tennis. With my background in audio engineering and their desire to network with other players, it was a perfect fit. I am so grateful that the podcast has opened lots of doors for me to meet some of my heroes in tennis and many others in the tennis tribe.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I record all our podcasts using a Zoom H4n recorder and capture the cleanest possible audio given the circumstances of an interview. For long distance we will use Skype to record audio using Quicktime to record the conversation. While internet audio leaves something to be desired it does at least allow us to interview people all over the world. Our Fan favorite reports are created by reporters globally who record their own audio and submit the files for me to engineer and mix. I use ProTools to edit the complete mixdown to stereo output.
► How do you market your show?
With over 17,000+ subscribers to TennisPAL and 12,000+ followers on my personal twitter account we invite listeners to join us on many different platforms include Apple, Spotify, Google, and more.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you are starting a podcast, I would study audio recording a bit first. I find the production level a make or break decision for listeners. I think it's worth it to purchase some recording resources first. I am happy to be a resource for anyone who wants to learn more about audio recording. One of the greatest lessons I have learned from podcasting is to be as detailed in planning as possible but sound as casual and "unread" in live recording. It's a true talent to come across natural and organic.
