► Tell us about you and your podcast
We've been doing a daily news podcast for 2 years now, first out of DC and now near DC. It's a take on the day's top stories in space, politics, and tech - with the occasional commentary or analysis episode about once per week also. Our listeners are diverse, most of our community seems to be based in the USA, Canada, and Australia - although there are listeners everywhere!

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I used to be a guest frequently on a number of shows I respected, Coast to Coast AM, Joe Rogan Experience, HuffPost LIVE mainly... from this, sprung a desire from some of my listeners to hear from me in a less curated way from time to time directly and I started a podcast. After about a year of hosting FULCRUM, I turned it over to Azure, our current daily news host. I still host an episode from time to time or do an interview but it's mostly hers and the team's show now!

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The podcast show was initially just another part of our social media, the response from listeners caused us to spend more time on it and make it into a proper daily news format show people can count on throughout the week.

► What do you gain from podcasting?
We get a more cohesive listener community, and a way to reach our listeners directly when there's breaking news or analysis that needs to be shared. This decreases our reliance on establishment platforms like Facebook to share our news stories.

► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use GarageBand to edit then upload them same day to our server. The RSS feed goes out everywhere from there. In-person interviews are always preferred, but when not possible we record over phone or Skype. I hate Zoom.

► How do you market your show?
Word of mouth, our biggest marketing channel is the newsletter to subscribers every week. It reminds people there are new episodes out, and keeps people on the same page.

► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Well the first year we weren't growing much, so we weren't expecting much - you need those months of quiet growth, when maybe you're becoming useful to listeners and sharing good information with them, but you're not yet in the charts. Once you chart well, new listeners find you kind of like a process of osmosis: it just happens, no additional effort needed. If you're providing useful info and being of use to your audience, maybe you won't be the next NPR or Rogan or whatever, but you'll grow and find your place.
