Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:4, 5, NIV. This is considered by many to be the very heart of the Old Testament, and Jesus Himself (Mark 12:29-31) said the entire Old Testament hangs on this and Leviticus 19:18. In this new series “Promises and other crazy things we say” we’re looking at the word ‘covenant’, and nature of our promise-making and promise-keeping God. This Sunday we’re in Deuteronomy 5 and considering what may be the most famous passage in the entire bible, “The 10 Commandments”.
