The first question posed in the Westminister Shorter Catechism is, “What is the chief end of man?” The accurate response to the question is as follows: “The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” God’s glory is a big deal in Scripture and it ought to be a big deal to us as well. John Piper comments: “The vindication of God’s glory is the ground of our salvation, and the exaltation of God’s glory is the goal of our salvation…God’s glory is the goal of all things.” Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:1-7; Romans 11:33-36

The saying, “The elephant in the room,” is an English-language metaphorical idiom for an obvious problem or risk no one wants to discuss. Friends, sola gratia, or “grace alone” is God’s elephant in the room for it address a problem that the natural man would rather ignore altogether – That man is utterly and totally unable to save himself through any attempt at self-righteousness! God accepts people on the condition of faith alone, not on the condition of obedience. Often times we recognize this as Christians for our initial salvation but we forget about it for the rest of our lives. Here we look at obstacles to our faith and how to grow our faith as Christians. Passage: Romans 4:1-5

On October 31, 1517, a German Monk by the name of Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the castle church door at Wittenberg Germany beginning what would be known in history as the Protestant Reformation. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and this month we will be bringing a series of five messages on the “sola’s” of the Reformation. We launch this week with Sola Scriptura. Is it possible to “fall” from the faith and abandon what I once embraced as the truth absolutely? Are there modern- day apostates? If so, what and who are they? These are some of the questions that we will strive to answer in this portion of our study. Passage: 1 Timothy 4:1-5
