Applied futurist, tech commentator, author, and all round nice guy Tom Cheesewright joins the team on our first pod of 2018. Don’t worry, this isn’t another Meltdown/Spectre winge session, no no, the team are back to their familiar ‘whipping boy’ as they assess yet another failure by Facebook to protect its users.   There’s also stats on ‘customer satisfaction’ for charities, Socks for Satan, contactless pay points from Goodbox and a jolly little security drone from Japan. Well, Greg thinks it’s jolly.   If you’d like to get in touch with Tom:   https://bookofthefuture.co.uk/ @bookofthefuture   Things we mentioned: https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2018/01/02/macmillan-tops-charity-customer-satisfaction-table/ http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/indyventure/goodbox-charity-donations-cashless-society-a8061586.html http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/satanist-church-pensacola-west-florida-holds-drive-socks-homeless-collect-charity-pagan-a7639881.html https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/05/tough-new-german-law-puts-tech-firms-and-free-speech-in-spotlight http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-42560688 https://news.sky.com/story/addicts-warned-facebook-groups-are-not-anonymous-11197078 https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/01/this-japanese-drone-sends-workers-home-on-time Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

Live from Federation, it's the Tech for Good Live Christmas podcast live!   Not only that, but this year it's a joint extravaganza with the team joining forces with not one, but two amazing meetups - Ladies that UX and NUX! And to represent these wonderful people we have UX aficionados and meetup legends Llara and Rick.   In classic end of the year style expect some tech for good live stats of the year plus an internet minute 2017 from Greg, who apparently doesn't care so why he included it we've no idea. There's also chatbot for fundraisers, vending machines for the homeless and our guests get to air their thoughts on AI and other things that didn't happen this year.   So grab a glass, put your feet up and have a very merry Christmas.   See you all in the new year!   Find our guests: @ladiesthatuxmcr @the_llara @nuxuk @rick_threlfall   Things we mentioned: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/happens-internet-minute-2017/ https://fundraising.co.uk/2017/11/30/childrens-society-introduces-facebook-bot-support-fundraising-events/#.Wi5pWkpl-Uk http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-vending-machine-homeless-people-launch-nottingham-action-hunger-a8077591.html https://cardsagainsthumanityredistributesyourwealth.com/ Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

The team have their first returning guest this month with friend of the pod Fay Schofield gracing them with her presence.  She has a bone to pick with Facebook so listen out for her rant at the end of the show, good thing to because the team never complain about Facebook ever, after all Zuckerberg is one of their biggest fans.   Also this month you’ll hear about charity sector pay, viral campaign fails, digital inclusion and an app that will save you money and raise it for charity at the same time. You’re also blessed with a couple of updates on a few campaigns previously mentioned on the pod, aren’t you lucky?   Things in this episode:   https://fundraising.co.uk/2017/11/06/salary-survey-shows-charity-workers-earn-32-less-sectors/#.WgF_pGh-pPY https://culturedvultures.com/hellblade-developers-raise-60000-world-mental-health-day/ http://standuptocancer.hyundai.co.uk/ https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2017/10/03/new-charity-campaign-aims-to-go-viral/ https://thedealerapp.co.uk/ https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2017/10/24/charity-and-council-team-up-to-launch-ambitious-8000-online-drive https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/7/16617494/china-national-security-spying-propaganda-cartoon-education Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

A fairly standard pod this month where you’ll get to hear the team talking about, well, standards, from connectors to internet, they just can’t get enough them. There’s also time to talk automation, charity crossovers with console games and that absolutely mind-bendingly misplanned Facebook VR event. Zuckerberg really is making it too easy for them. The ‘Pod’ this month was recorded LIVE at Wuthering Bytes, the digital festival with the best name EVER! Co-organiser of the Hebden Bridge based event, Tim Harbour joins the team this month, soldiering on with a particularly frustrating cold. The team discuss Instagrams erroneous definition of the word ‘low’, how you can help raise awareness with Shelter, AI doing stuff and how AR could actually be really useful for charities. The audience get in on the rant this month and offer up the topics including amongst other things, (one of) Greg’s favourite companies to complain about, Apple. It’s worth noting this was recorded prior to the Apple event, but given the scope of the leaks this year most of it’s correct. To quote Ben:   “It’s been quite feisty podcast, we all genuinely love each, and...whatever, I hope that you can get something out of this, I hope Paul can kind of resurrect something….”   Thanks to the brilliant and erudite Kirsty Styles for running rings round the team and taking them to task. You can find her @kirstystyles1 (damn you @kirstystyles for camping on the first of her name).   And a final thanks to Bex for “Printernet”, the world will never be the same.   Things this episode: http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2014/10/21/357629765/when-women-stopped-coding https://givewithdata.com/ https://datacoup.com/ http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/nrk-norwegian-news-site-comments-read-story-understand-post-quiz-questions-a7607246.html https://www.fastcodesign.com/90132632/ai-is-inventing-its-own-perfect-languages-should-we-let-it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-40859004 And because Ben asked: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/12/the-dark-side-of-guardian-comments Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

Laying waste to the team with his acerbic wit this month is Fritz von Runte, self-confessed friend and lover to music, UX specialist and designer. Fritz has made a name for himself as a vocal, and amusing member of the tech community in Manchester and is an advocate of ‘tech for good’. On the podcast, an analysis of stating the obvious over 205 pages and why Facebook sucks at creating shareable content for important causes. The week after the launch of the Fundraising Preference Service the team wonder will it work and why isn’t it a Marketing Preference Service? And Greg finally gets to rant about Amazon and their latest edition to the Echo range, Echo Look. This episode was recorded the night before what was to be the dreaded day of the election, though of course we all woke up to a better picture than we thought, even though the android is still in power. Expect plenty of vitriolic rants about ideologies, members of the political elite and lazy voting. The team also touch on #grime4corbyn conclusively demonstrating their lack of understanding of the musical genre and destroying any lingering illusions of their ‘coolness’. If that isn’t enough Ben finally gets to talk about South America and it’s actually relevant! Who would have thought it. Joining the team this month is the the podcasts very own super fan (only fan) Charlotte Rushton. No stranger to digital herself she works for digital agency and startup Wool Digital, along with Ben White stand in, Ian, she’s dropped in at the deep with the team particularly distracted this month. At some point we think they talk about personal data, tap cars (not tap cats, yet), the hot topic of the Wannacry virus and the appalling outing of the hero of the tale. If you can pick any of that out from the exceptionally rambling route they take this month then you probably deserve a medal, that or an article in the press about your love of pizza. If you’d like to get in touch with Charlotte or Wool Digital: Twitter: @WoolDigital @charrushtonWebsite: http://wool.digital/ Things this episode:http://www.nesta.org.uk/blog/its-time-start-taking-control-our-personal-data-seriously http://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2017/05/02/world-first-for-stand-up-to-cancer/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39931635 https://thenextweb.com/insider/2017/05/15/doxing-hero-stopped-wannacry-irresponsible-dumb/#.tnw_mPAzwBT1 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/may/16/facebook-fake-news-tools-not-working http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/05/16/british-expert-foiled-cyber-attack-gives-7800-reward-charity/ Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: techfo[email protected]
