This shambles of a pod goes extra shambolic this week as mum and dad leave the kids in charge. That’s right, Bex and Jonny are away leaving Greg to stumble his way through presenting this pod but it’s not all bad, you finally get the pleasure of hearing more from Producer Paul and Mille Vardheim, who has more than just her knowledge of bins to share. Expect the gang to dispel the ‘digital native’ myth, agree wholeheartedly that online campaigns have got out of hand and incredibly briefly touch on drones for medical supplies. It’s once again Ben’s turn to have a rant and lucky for you he has one prepared on HiPPO stereotypes before rambling into a description of the next Black Panther, a touching tale of a king trying to guide his country through a digital transformation project.   Things we mentioned: https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2018/04/06/report-challenges-assumptions-youth-digital/ https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2018/04/04/report-reveals-pitfalls-clicktivism-mass-email-petitioning/ http://www.thedrum.com/news/2018/04/02/alexa-users-can-now-donate-more-40-charities-using-their-voice https://www.cnet.com/news/zipline-new-delivery-drones-fly-medical-supplies-faster-farther/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J---aiyznGQ Music by @geekytom Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveEmail: [email protected]

You asked for it (probably) and the team are delivering, this is the first weekly Tech for Good Live podcast. These will be a little shorter, so expect 45 minutes of compact rants and digital news.   To mark this auspicious occasion the team are all back together recording in their new studio with data wizard Julian Tait, CEO of Open Data MCR. Expect him and Greg to have a little bromance over GDPR throughout.   Featured this month are Google questionable research funding practises, charity donations for kids and a wonderful new way for families to spy on their elderly relatives.   If you’d like to get in touch with Julian:   @opendatamcr http://www.opendatamanchester.org.uk/   Things we mentioned: https://campaignforaccountability.org/work/googles-academic-influence-in-europe/   https://readie.eu/what-we-do/ https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/aug/30/new-america-foundation-google-funding-firings https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2018/03/16/pocket-money-giving-app-boosts-offering/ https://www.youralcove.com/ https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/21/science/robot-fish.html Music by @geekytomGet in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveEmail: [email protected]

It's International Women's Day so we’ve decided to do something different from our usual podcast. We decided to shut up. This podcast is a chance for you to hear the stories of what it is like to be a woman working in tech today. These are first hand stories. They are true. And we should all listen and reflect. Thank you to everyone who has shared their stories, and to thank everyone in the sector who is working day in day out to make this stop. And thanks to our wonderful voice actors for donating their time to this, Anna, Mills, Rose, Fay and Kirsty.   Links: Open Heroines - https://openheroines.org MCR Live - https://www.mcr.live The Federation - http://www.thefederation.coop Omidyar - https://www.omidyar.com Music: Three Thousand Men In White Coats - Shadow Priest

Greg was away for this episode - so there was much chaos. Thankfully, Harry Bailey (@harrybailey) stepped in. We also had a guest - the wonderful Simon Collison (@colly). In this episode:Bex hurt Jonny’s feelings - because he’s not as good as Greg. Simon knows a LOT about hedgehogs. A disturbing amount of charities do not have a digital strategy. Trump might use Deepfakes for nefarious reasons (shock). The gang flawlessly plan Simon’s murder, and Ben thinks that the entire podcast is FAKE NEWS. Simon has the answer to all of this - Keep Quincy Jones alive.
Yeah, it got weird. Our next podcast will be at UX Copenhagen. Applied futurist, tech commentator, author, and all round nice guy Tom Cheesewright joins the team on our first pod of 2018. Don’t worry, this isn’t another Meltdown/Spectre winge session, no no, the team are back to their familiar ‘whipping boy’ as they assess yet another failure by Facebook to protect its users.   There’s also stats on ‘customer satisfaction’ for charities, Socks for Satan, contactless pay points from Goodbox and a jolly little security drone from Japan. Well, Greg thinks it’s jolly.   If you’d like to get in touch with Tom:   https://bookofthefuture.co.uk/ @bookofthefuture   Things we mentioned: https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2018/01/02/macmillan-tops-charity-customer-satisfaction-table/ http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/indyventure/goodbox-charity-donations-cashless-society-a8061586.html http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/satanist-church-pensacola-west-florida-holds-drive-socks-homeless-collect-charity-pagan-a7639881.html https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/05/tough-new-german-law-puts-tech-firms-and-free-speech-in-spotlight http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-42560688 https://news.sky.com/story/addicts-warned-facebook-groups-are-not-anonymous-11197078 https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/01/this-japanese-drone-sends-workers-home-on-time Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

Live from Federation, it's the Tech for Good Live Christmas podcast live!   Not only that, but this year it's a joint extravaganza with the team joining forces with not one, but two amazing meetups - Ladies that UX and NUX! And to represent these wonderful people we have UX aficionados and meetup legends Llara and Rick.   In classic end of the year style expect some tech for good live stats of the year plus an internet minute 2017 from Greg, who apparently doesn't care so why he included it we've no idea. There's also chatbot for fundraisers, vending machines for the homeless and our guests get to air their thoughts on AI and other things that didn't happen this year.   So grab a glass, put your feet up and have a very merry Christmas.   See you all in the new year!   Find our guests: @ladiesthatuxmcr @the_llara @nuxuk @rick_threlfall   Things we mentioned: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/happens-internet-minute-2017/ https://fundraising.co.uk/2017/11/30/childrens-society-introduces-facebook-bot-support-fundraising-events/#.Wi5pWkpl-Uk http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-vending-machine-homeless-people-launch-nottingham-action-hunger-a8077591.html https://cardsagainsthumanityredistributesyourwealth.com/ Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]

The team have their first returning guest this month with friend of the pod Fay Schofield gracing them with her presence.  She has a bone to pick with Facebook so listen out for her rant at the end of the show, good thing to because the team never complain about Facebook ever, after all Zuckerberg is one of their biggest fans.   Also this month you’ll hear about charity sector pay, viral campaign fails, digital inclusion and an app that will save you money and raise it for charity at the same time. You’re also blessed with a couple of updates on a few campaigns previously mentioned on the pod, aren’t you lucky?   Things in this episode:   https://fundraising.co.uk/2017/11/06/salary-survey-shows-charity-workers-earn-32-less-sectors/#.WgF_pGh-pPY https://culturedvultures.com/hellblade-developers-raise-60000-world-mental-health-day/ http://standuptocancer.hyundai.co.uk/ https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2017/10/03/new-charity-campaign-aims-to-go-viral/ https://thedealerapp.co.uk/ https://www.charitydigitalnews.co.uk/2017/10/24/charity-and-council-team-up-to-launch-ambitious-8000-online-drive https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/7/16617494/china-national-security-spying-propaganda-cartoon-education Get in touch:Twitter: @techforgoodliveInstagram: techforgoodliveSnapchat: techforgoodEmail: [email protected]
