Maybe it was reading the book, “Move Fast And Break Things” by Jonathan Taplin, that somewhat inspired me to start this podcast. The book tracks the hijacking of the internet by today’s tech giants and monopolists, Google, Facebook and Amazon, and it’s one of those books that should be a subject in school classes. It is incredibly eye opening, revelatory and just really interesting and fascinating. So here’s my contribution to taking this here internet back. A podcast. Pretty naive right? Oh well, let’s try and do something…!

I was traveling in the US recently. I turned on the news channels. It did my head in. It was terrifying. It was a live broadcast from American Collapse. I don’t know anybody in US politics. I thought. Until I got to Nashville and I realized, wow, I know the Chair of the Democratic Party of the State of Tennessee. That is Mary Mancini. And she was kind enough to let me ask a bunch of dumb questions…

John Niven is the Scottish novelist, known for his book “Kill Your Friends” about the British music industry in the mid-Nineties. He has since published eight more books, and recently came to Berlin on a reading tour, where I seized the opportunity to drag him into the room upstairs from the wine bar for an interview. This is my very first interview, my very first podcast, and I was as nervous as can be.
