Luke Larson is a Marine Infantry Officer, published author, and president of Axon (Ticker AAXN), formerly Taser.  He makes the case that providing police officers with non lethal weapons greatly reduces the overall risk to society.  He also talks about Axon’s body cameras and cloud-based evidence management software, and how that can provide an indisputable evidence trail to keep the public safe.   References from the show: Axon: http://www.axon.com Wake Forest Study on Safety of Tasers: http://www.wakehealth.edu/News-Releases/2012/Wake_Forest_Baptist_Study_Suggests_Tasers_Dont_Cause_Cardiac_Complications.htm Tom Swift: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Swift Hit Makers: The Science of Popularity in an Age of Distraction: Book by Derek Thompson https://g.co/kgs/Gv4wwT Principles: Life and Work Book by Ray Dalio: https://g.co/kgs/RYdxgK Walter Isaacson: https://www.amazon.com/Walter-Isaacson/e/B000APFLB8 Senator’s Son – An Iraq War Novel by Luke S Larson https://www.amazon.com/Senators-Son-Iraq-War-Novel/dp/0615353797 Productive: http://itunes.apple.com/app/id983826477 Follow Luke at: Twitter: @ls_larson   Subscribe at bit.ly/hdwmib   Help spread the word about the work that we are doing for vets, refugees, and asylum seekers at bit.ly/pandgsocial

This might be one of the few times that you get to hear from people who have collectively shot tens of thousands of rounds and have four decades of military experience.  Listen as we talk about guns, the second amendment, regulation, training, and common sense. Things we mentioned during the show: The Second Amendment: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. “We need not just reasonable gun control, but also a bit more self-control over our emotions and instincts if we want to keep ourselves and our kids safer.” David Ropeik: Harvard and author of “How Risky Is It, Really? Terry Wilson made a significant mid-career change from the finance department of Westfield to trying to apply the same business acumen to the social problems of unemployment and unskilled labor.   Over 1500 people have obtained work experience in the social enterprises he has helped found.  Apologies if you feel like a fly-on-the wall in this conversation.  I learn so much from Terry, that this is as much a mentorship session as a regular podcast.   References from the show: The Staples Bag: https://www.thestaplesbag.ssi.org.au Humble Creatives: https://twitter.com/HumbleCreatives and https://www.facebook.com/humblecreatives/ Settlement Services International: https://www.ssi.org.au   Subscribe at bit.ly/hdwmib

His path veered hard right from what he was planning to do at Google, and in his social enterprise.  He is, in his own words,  ‘Taking a break from work to deal with a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.’ He still manages to encourage and challenge people during his own difficult treatment rounds.  Good luck, Scott.   References from the show: Article in Medium: https://medium.com/@sgriddle/im-35-and-i-may-suddenly-have-lost-the-rest-of-my-life-i-m-panicking-just-a-bit-35d6a28dcbc Scott’s Blog: https://scottgriddle.com Anticancer Book by David Servan-Schreiber https://g.co/kgs/9fMi4g The Last Lecture Book by Jeffrey Zaslow and Randy Pausch https://g.co/kgs/9nop7P The Selfish Gene Book by Richard Dawkins https://g.co/kgs/7kH97R   Subscribe at bit.ly/hdwmib

Neal ‘Rudy’ Rickner is the head of strategy and operation at Mikani, one of the GOOG/Alphabet X companies that is trying to make high-altitude power generation kites.  He is also, and depending on the time of day, more importantly a father, husband, and Marine fighter pilot.  His take on how to balance everything, and grow despite feeling like a failure (which he most certainly is not), is instructive.   Makani: https://x.company/makani Hillbilly Elegy by J.D.
