Here at podcast power marketing we’re always on the lookout for new tools that makes podcaster’s lives easier and this week I had an email drop into my inbox about a beta program for a new online service called Podable that aims to make podcasts more shareable so I thought I’d find out more about Podable and the people and the company that’s building the project so today I’m talking to Ola Thorn the master engineer at Sony mobile research and incubation to find out more about Podable and the ideas behind the service Hey thanks to talking to us today Ola! Thank you! Thanks for having me on the show. Now tell us a little bit more about Podable, what it does, and specifically what problem it is trying so solve for podcasters. Yeah so today it’s a difficult to share part of an audio and a podcast is typically like twenty to forty minutes and it’s not really built for snacking and audio waveforms are quite difficult to navigate since there’s no clear mapping about what you’re talking about on them and what you see on the display. So I thought that I must be a better way here so what we do now is that we convert the podcast to texts using speech to text and that way we can make the podcasts indexable so you can type a keyword say, Fun, and when you search inside the podcast you get up all the parts where fun is mentioned in the podcast so now it’s really easy to navigate, you can just press on a link and jump to each part where fun is mentioned. So for example if you would like to share specific parts now you can just mark it as text and then you can preview the audio by pressing play and if you like that part you can the save this clip or you can Share it instantly on Twitter or Facebook. Wow that’s amazing so in essence Podable as I understand it is basically converting the audio and text to make it indexable for podcasters so that they can basically use the medium of text, which is pretty much how the world of the web works still even from the early days of Google keywords the world of the web still can’t understand audio so you are converting it into a form that the web can basically understand if I understand it correctly Yeah and that’s a fine description thank you okay so how did you get the idea for Podable I mean I’m what inspired you to start working on Podable itself and what inspired its creation Yeah so I am a big fan of podcasts and I listen to podcasts on my wa...
