This is our Christmas Program! Our Children's Ministry and Adult Choir both perform special music. Pastor Steve closes with a shortened message to tie it all together along the “Wake Up” theme. He talks about our opportunity to wake up and experience all that God offers us through the great gift of His Son.

This message will look into the life of Mary (Mother of Jesus), how her life was drastically changed the day she began to carry the Savior of the world, and how her life went from being ordinary to extraordinary because she was willing to carry Jesus and make Him known to the world. We will look into how we—ordinary people—can follow the example of Mary by living with an open heart to God's will and hold up Christ in our lives by being a vessel for our living Savior and what it looks like to live a life where he is made known in us by the way we choose to live.

We end this series will the challenge to become “disciples who make disciples that make disciples.” We are to reproduce ourselves. Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 28 that disciple making is what we’re commissioned to do. In this message we’ll explore what that looks like and how we go about reproducing ourselves in the lives of others. As grandparents and parents to our children…as leaders raising up other leaders…as workers raising up other workers…as learners helping those younger than us in the faith learn with us. When we do that we’re no longer just servants of God…we become FRIENDS.

Disciples aren’t just learners; they are DOERS! The disciples in Luke 10 were amazed at what they could do as Jesus sent them out. Many who call themselves disciples just want to sit in Bible studies and worship services and soak it all in, but Jesus sends us OUT! We are given gifts and opportunities to lead and to serve and touch and to heal. In fact, the BEST way to grow is to put yourself in a place of service or leadership. Once you get a taste of God using you, you’ll never want to go back!

Disciples aren’t perfect. That is one of the facts that becomes clear as you read the stories of His followers. They said wrong things; they did wrong things, they were constantly fumbling and falling. But they kept going forward. This message is about giving ourselves the grace to grow. None of us are “there” yet, but we can all be in a state of continually “becoming.”

Christianity is not about following a set of rules or memorizing a set of doctrines. It is about becoming like Jesus. As we lean into His Spirit, we allow Him to control more and more of who we are. Interestingly enough, though much of the world has lost confidence in the institutional church, they love Jesus. Maybe the disconnect is that we often don’t reflect much of the one who we say we represent.

This is a step many followers skip. We try to be Christians without spending meaningful time with Christ! Jesus called His disciples to be “with Him” before He ever had them represent Him. This message will challenge us to be WITH Jesus and will seek to explore how we can do that in our lives that are already busy and full.

Following Jesus always starts with a “leaving.” It means leaving an old life. It means living an old set of values. It sometimes means leaving some people. The first disciples left their jobs and families to be His. This message will explore the reality that many of us are still stuck trying to hold on the person that we used to be while reaching to become the person God is calling us to be.

Zacchaeus was a small man…and not just in size. He was small in the way he lived. He was a ruthless tax collector who made his living by using his power to extort money from others. He compensated for his size by working hard to make others feel small. Then he met Jesus. Zacchaeus discovered God had something MORE for him…something BIGGER. In the message this week, we’ll explore how God wants to transform our small thinking and small living into something that has purpose and meaning. God wants us to become people big enough to LIFT those around us, not stand on them.
