Tablo has introduced a new product and service. Hulu is involved in two sweet new deals. One can get you HBO for dirt cheap, and the other will actually land you a reduced cost Hulu subscription. Microsoft announced a plethora of original Xbox games that are being made backward compatible and a few Xbox 360 games which are getting Xbox One X enhancements. Also, the Xbox is getting Hellblade, one of Josh’s favorite recent games that he played for Story Players. As is so often the case, this episode starts with listeners helping other listeners. Many people wrote in with great tips for ripping Blu-ray discs. The biggest news of the week was the Microsoft reorganization that split Windows into two divisions and left Terry Myerson looking for a new gig. It’s happening right as the company is about to release the next major version of Windows. ESPN is about to release a standalone streaming service, but it may not be the package you’re looking for. Amazon is also planning to kill off their music storage service. Microsoft is also hosting one of their biggest sales of the year for Xbox games and more. Josh and Richard are back for another week of Microsoft entertainment technology news discussion. The much-loved Movies Anywhere service dominates the video news this week. Rumor has it that Microsoft may be considering joining the service. Fandango Now also linked their library with Movies Anywhere. VUDU has changed how their disc-to-digital conversion is done. Microsoft has a lot of great games on sale this week, and there are new Games with Gold to redeem. All that, plus an extended In Our Entertainment Centers segment, on this week’s show. This week’s episode brings with it a boat-load of listener feedback! Some listeners had questions, others had comments, and some even had potential solutions to problems! There wasn’t a shortage of news either. Microsoft has figured out and fixed the HDR issues when watching 4k Blu-ray discs on the Xbox One, and they did it just in time for Amazon’s latest sale on the discs. Deezer is a music service you may not have heard of, but they have a competitive offering and now they have an app on the Xbox in addition to Windows 10. The Xbox One Spring Update is on the horizon, and that means they have a lot of new features coming. We break them all down, take a look at the latest Cortana updates, and more! The guys discuss how to quickly get your new TV looking great and how to set up parental controls on Xbox One. Formula 1 introduced a streaming service, and a major new update to the Xbox One is available to testers. Plex DVR is back in the news because they’ve brought it to the Apple TV. Unfortunately for many of our listeners, the Apple TV experience is even more full-featured than what’s available on the Xbox One. If Plex isn’t your preferred solution, maybe Channels is. It’s now available on Android TV. In our gaming news, Microsoft explains why keyboard and mouse adapters are still usable on the Xbox One. They’ve also promised that 1440p video support is coming very soon. Mixer is offering a new way for streamers to make a little money. Rounding out the Microsoft news is an odd story that seems to indicate that Cortana-powered speakers are far more popular than we’ve assumed, and a popular blogger is arguing that Microsoft is all but done with consumer technology. Josh and Richard are back this week, and in news that won’t surprise anyone, Plex has the biggest story of the week. They have brought some of their live TV capabilities to the Xbox One, and they’ve also redesigned a part of their user interface that has annoyed countless users. VLC has reached version 3.0, and it’s brought with it a bunch of new features. Spotify has a new partnership that has Josh really excited. Amazon Music is almost available as a Windows 10 app, and the new Xbox Wireless Adapter is finally available. The guys started off this week by responding to listener feedback about wi-fi access point solutions. They had some great suggestions for strengthening your home network without breaking the bank. The main feature centered around watching the Winter Olympics for cord cutters. There are a lot of options out there, but Josh and Richard waded through the possibilities have come up with a list of the best options. On the gaming side, there has been a lot of talk lately about Xbox having a major issue with exclusive games. Is it really an issue, and who is most impacted by it? The guys break it down before discussing a quick tip that fixes something that annoys Richard in three different ways! There’s also the usual game sale and a new month of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. If you’re interested in Josh’s time with Sea of Thieves you’ll want to stick around for the final segment of the show. If it wasn’t already clear that Windows 10 Mobile is dead, there’s another solid argument for switching from our previously beloved platform. Josh and Richard start the show with some great feedback and questions from other listeners. Their answers should give you some insight into video conversion and home networking. The big news of the week is the huge change to Xbox Game Pass. Having access to AAA first-party games on release date could shake up the whole industry. There have been a couple updates for Groove Music. They help to show that even if the Groove music service is dead, the app is still alive. The Xbox One has also been getting frequent updates, so the guys cover what you can expect soon on the console. Richard has been on a few other podcasts recently, and Josh is hosting a Sea of Thieves live-stream Thursday night. Listen to the announcements section for all the details! The guys are back from Las Vegas, but Richard wasn’t able to join Josh for the recording of this episode. Unsurprisingly, the episode starts with some news out of Plex as the Xbox One client has been updated. There was also one CES announcement that the guys didn’t cover last week. NVIDIA is working to produce some crazy computer displays. They sound amazing, but who needs a 65″ computer monitor, and how much will they cost? A new Xbox Elite controller may be in the works. This week’s Deals with Gold looks like a Story Players shopping list. Cortana may be seeing a massive update on the Xbox just after Microsoft killed the Kinect.
