► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hi my name is Jimmy Day and I am a stand up comedian based in St. Louis, Missouri. My friend and fellow comedian Jack Schurk are the voices behind The Day at Night Podcast. We have been doing stand up comedy for 5+ years and have worked at The Funny Bone and Helium comedy club. I also hosted a weekly open mic for a year and a half and graduated from The Improv Shop in 2018.
Day at Night has a late night talk show influence featuring monologue jokes, funny segments, interviews, fake commercials, and musical guests. We strive to make a fun show with good production value that will attract a wide range of listeners.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Jack and I both listen to a lot of podcast so we decided to give it a try ourselves. We wanted another outlet to express ourselves with the goal of building a larger following for our stand up and also just to create a funny podcast. After a couple months of brainstorming and trial and error we released our First episode in November of 2019.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We both currently work day jobs on top of doing stand up multiple times each week which funds the podcast. We have both spent some money on equipment for the podcast but at this point that has been our biggest expenses. It can be tough to find the time but we try to get together for a couple hours and record as much as possible. Due to the format of the show the editing process can take several hours to complete. Currently we try to release an episode every other week.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
At this point we are doing the podcast because we have fun getting together and creating something cool. We would love to get some sponsors as we continue to build our audience.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Each of us have a recording set up at our houses with an interface, mics, headphones, etc. We share a laptop to record and edit the podcast and use Cubase software. We like to interview comedians, musicians, and friends in person but are looking into virtual options also.
► How do you market your show?
The podcast is currently available on Spotify and ITunes. We use social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) to promote the episodes. We also use email dayatnightpodcast@gmail.com to communicate with listeners.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Make sure that you find a subject/format that you are passionate about, work with friends, and just have fun with it. I am pretty new to podcasting so feel free to not listen to my advice.
Please check out our social media for more info about the podcast.
