► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Brodie from Melbourne, Australia. I am a Physical Therapist who treats injured runners. My podcast is called the Run Smarter Podcast and I help runners of all abilities make smarter training decisions & as a result, reduce their risk of injury.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I am a huge podcast fan, I am subscribed to about 20 podcasts and listen constantly. I actually started a different running podcast 3 years ago as a passion project, then in Jan 2020 committed to this brand new podcast which aims more to HELP runners rather than inspire.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I am a very driven individual and prioritize my schedule effectively. I release 2 episodes per week which requires about 3-4 hours of time per week to record, edit, publish etc. In return, this gives me a heightened level of passion and enthusiasm throughout the week because I am helping people. I have found podcasting rather inexpensive paying around $20 per month for hosting and an investment of a $100 microphone.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Currently I have 11 patreon supporters contributing $5 per month. I have not considered sponsors at this stage but will likely explore this option in the future. Currently on about 8000 downloads per month. The podcast does act as a nice lead generation for my online physical therapy business as injured runners learn more about me and my injury insight and if they require 1 on 1 help, they reach out.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I will either record a solo episode on a particular topic or interview a guest. I normally get a guest from social media networking either other podcast hosts, researchers, running coaches etc. I record our episodes over zoom and then edit on audacity.
► How do you market your show?
Some listeners will discover my podcast from itunes recommendations, through my instagram account. However, I find the most effective strategy is appearing on other podcasts and sharing my knowledge.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My #1 piece of advice is do not aim for perfection. If you aim for a perfect logo, intro, description and recording then nothing will ever get done. Aim for B+ work and constantly self-reflect on what went well, and what can be improved.
