► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hello, we're The People's Podcast, hosted by Kimberly Vertigan- Co-Founder, spiritual healer and passionate seeker of truth & Henry Ciul- Co-Founder, musician and devoted recovery advocate. We're often joined by Danny Holmes- musician with a hard focus on recovery and self betterment, SGF Graham- eclectic musician & no- nonsense mental health advocate, Kendall Cobb- painter & musician with a whimsical classiness, Juzby- our mysterious musician & clean mental health advisor, Jonathan Carter A.K.A. Flava Hype- offering deep wisdom and deeper vocal tones, Iris Gil- a fierce but empathetic advocate for women's rights, and a menagerie of guests from all walks of life. Our panel is ever changing though, it seems, as many others have joined with stories of strength and accomplishment, heartache and tragedy, and all the steps that brought them there and helped them move past it.
Our podcast is about isolating and dissecting prominent issues facing mental health in an ever changing world, understanding the causes and effects of how we went about treating mental health issues in the past to better understand how to achieve more success as a society, and removing the blight of stigmas surrounding mental health as a whole to provide a more unified front for positive change and available care. It's about utilizing the ears, eyes, and voices of real people to build a safety net of human compassion and understanding for not only our own sanity, but for the collective good of mankind.
Our listeners are right there in the title. The people. Anyone struggling with anything from addiction, to just not understanding if they have a purpose in this crazy world. They're next door, out in the streets, running a cash register, watching 5 kids or.......... maybe reading this.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We wanted to make a positive impact in the world. It wasn't that we idolized them, we just realized that we had a platform to finally make our, and many others, voices heard so we utilized it.
Our goals were sharing our experiences, strength, and hope with others about addiction and domestic violence. Just ptsd and trauma in general were hard for us to cope with alone so this was born. There is strength and knowledge in unity so we wanted to see how others testimonials were similar and hopefully learn to process things better as a group.
We've been going strong for over two years and we started almost immediately broadcasting.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode every Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm. I think we've only missed one due to the severest of illnesses in its entire runtime.
The podcast and improving mental health for a struggling society is our main focus. We make the time if we don't have it but after as long as we have been doing this, that's what every Tues and Thurs at 8 is. Like clockwork. It's written into our DNA now.
Our marketing and promotion is evolving so it's hard to get an estimate on what we spend but it is and has been, largely self funded.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We would most certainly take sponsorship if at all possible. The goal is to make the podcast as big as possible and reach as many people as we can. It can be a big ordeal setting up events and outreach concerts.
The podcast is wonderful for the psyche. For the soul. I, Henry, owe it a lot. It was there during some of the hardest times in my life and I'm forever grateful it was. It's brought all wonderful friends and connections from all walks of life.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We are in the process of updating our streaming service. Getting the website up and running has opened our eyes to a whole bunch of new possibilities and services. We haven't even scratched the surface yet. Streamyard had been ours since we started because it was rather easy to use.
Preparing is a discussion between the team to find a good, relevant topic to pursue and then doing the necessary research and structuring. We end up making a title and trying to have a well thought out description to engage viewers.
Our interviews and discussions tend to be over video and audio at the guests and the hosts preference.
► How do you market your show?
We are everywhere. Facebook, insta, TikTok, ect. The best place to find us and contact us is at our shiny new website; UnseenTwistedTruths.com
We are streaming on just about all platforms so come give a piece of your mind.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
This journey has changed us as people. Changed how we see the world. Everything from processing trauma to just day to day decision making has changed in a multitude of positive aspects.
There's all sorts of resources out there but YouTube is generally a crucial tool in our experience. I'd say the best advice is really to find something you're passionate about and just start talking into a mic. A decent phone helps Tom.
