► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Big Brother Jake and I am the host of The Big Brother Jake Podcast.
My listeners are men and women from all over that live everyday lives just like myself!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast because I felt like people like myself weren’t represented. The average single parent getting by in life. I have issues that many people face daily but have no voice that represents them. I listen to some podcasts but not many. I don’t want to sound like other podcasters so I tend to hold off on listening to others. I started this podcast in October of 2018. I released my first episode within a week of creating the concept of it.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release a new episode roughly every week. I have three jobs and I’m a single parent so I sacrifice sleep or socializing to put out this podcast. It’s okay, it’s a labor of love. My podcast is fully funded by me and I put 20-30 hours of marketing, producing and editing the show.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I take sponsorships. Mainly small businesses. It’s not easy finding sponsors but we try daily. We get 500-1000 downloads monthly. The podcast benefits me because I know there are others out there that are going through similar things as a single parent. I try to be the voice of the people.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Adobe Audition to edit my podcasts. I rely on old friends in the business as guests as well as call agencies. I use bullet points to prepare each show but out of ten bullet points per show. I may use three. I use my phone or Zoom to conduct interviews.
► How do you market your show?
I use social media to market the show.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My best advice to any aspiring podcaster is continue to create content even if you feel no one hears you. You’d be surprised who listens.
