► Tell us about you and your podcast
We are female automotive industry professionals and have 30+ years of experience consulting with dealerships.
The podcast sheds light on underlying issues that hinder progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Each episode will bring forth conversations, ideas, and solutions from dealers and industry leaders on the cutting edge and making a positive change in auto and beyond.
Our listeners are dealers, OEMs, vendors, and other automotive industry professionals.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I podcast to be able to have this important conversation in the industry. It gets attention at times, but it needs to be embraced at a more comprehensive level so organizations can make purposeful change. This podcast is to keep the message out there and offer solutions from those in the industry doing this well. Ultimately, a greater inclusion of women and diversity in automotive will foster innovation. It will also improve the customer experience, especially in retail automotive.
Yes, I do listen to a lot of podcasts.
I launched the first episode on April 8, 2022. I started immersing myself in the podcast world in December of 2021. The biggest learning curve was learning how to edit audio.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release monthly with an occasional bonus episode. It take about 8 hours to produce an episode (2 hours to find and pre-interview guests, 1 hour to prep for the recording, 1.5 hours to record, 3.5 hours to edit, publish, update website).
I do have a day job. I am able to find time during the week or weekend since we are only doing one episode a month.
I fund this podcast myself. I pay the monthly fee for Buzzsprout, Riverside, and the annual fees for Canva pro and my Squarespace website. I use Audacity for editing, which is free.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do not take sponsorship at this time. The intent of this pod is not to generate revenue, it is to influence the industry.
Podcasting has allowed me to network with a lot more people in and outside my career. I have also learned a ton, and it is exciting to have a new skill. Hopefully, every small connection and podcast listen can help make a positive change.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I have a lot of industry connections, so it is typically easy for me to find willing guests.
I use Riverside to record, Audacity to edit, Buzzsprout to host. I interview my guests remotely through Riverside.
► How do you market your show?
I have an email list that I use from my day job in order to promote the pod. I also use LinkedIn and Instagram.
I mostly direct my listeners to my website, but I also inform them that the show is on all podcast platforms.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
The podcast: "Podcasting Step by Step" was extremely helpful. Also, all of the Buzzsprout resources. I took a class in Udemy to learn Audacity, which was extremely helpful.
My advice would be just to try it and keep going. It's ok if it isn't perfect. The hardest thing is not producing the show, it is gaining listeners.
