► Tell us about you and your podcast
The Bag System podcast is a look inside my system of alternate identities that I call Headmates. My goal is to de-stigmatize a condition perceived to be either tragic or fascinating, when in truth, there is nothing more human and relatable than for the mind to break.
Our listeners are mainly from the United States, but are found the world over. Some have dissociative disorders themselves, while others are moved to learn.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Our podcasting journey began after years on YouTube. We found a preference with the art of mere language and sculpting meaning in our life stories. The answer to why podcast is the difference my perspective might offer to a controversial topic.
My first thought in podcasting wasn't that I would acquire a mass listening base. My hope was to impact those who tuned in.
I started podcasting in October of 2020 with an episode on our story of finding out that we have Dissociative Identity Disorder and the path toward accept.
Our first episode was created within less than a week. We had a few close friends listen to raw footage and give their thoughts, which changed how the episode finally presented. We are since much more at ease with the airwaves.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The time to make an episode is mixed in between multiple projects, including founding a non-profit for Dissociative Disorders and PTSD.
The funding is a personal low budget. I create my own content and use a sound studio app to record, then edit in native desktop programs.
Episodes are released when I have time, energy, and ideas to put them to life.
Work is everything that I do. I create and work on projects. My work is my life. It's what fills my time.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do not currently have ad spaces in my episodes, though that may change. We do have a Patreon for the podcast where we offer exclusive content.
Podcasting benefits us by helping us connect as an inner system of headmates who are learning to live together in a functional manner. It means an incredible amount to know that our words are heard and well received. We love interacting with our audience.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
As well as low budget version of AVR Pro for recording, we use sound effects for our intro reel, which is edited like all footage in Audio Edit Studio. We convert the file to level the audio, then add ID3 Tags.
Each episode is prepared with notes prior that were built to direct the story or concept. The notes are ensured to convert to transcripts to be added to the website for the deaf and hearing impaired..
When we have guests, we use a variety of programs, depending on the guest. Zencastr is a tool of choice, otherwise, we often turn to Zoom.
► How do you market your show?
Most of our followers are on Spotify. Second up might be Audible or Apple Podcasts. We post the links with digital media on our social networks after every episode. In each episode, we mention the website and where we can be found.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Be cautious in choosing your hosting platform. Once you leave one, your previous stats are left behind and it can take months to get all podcast apps to stream the correct URL feed.
As for the podcasting itself, trying to be the best podcast won't make it so. Be personable, interesting to listen to, or whatever your own genuine self is. Listeners are drawn to something real from a host. Take an interest in your audience.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
